Saturday Morning Open Thread

A special message from Chief Deputy Art Mullen.

Over the last few months of arguing about politics on Facebook and Twitter with various leftists stooges and numbskulls, I have found it necessary from time to time to ban some of them from watching JUSTIFIED. I cannot have a bunch of stupid leftist Democrats out there watching our show and cheering for the thieves, as leftists always do. So leftists, when I ban you from watching Justified and you try to tune in when Season 4 starts in January 2013, this is what you will see on your screen:

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, October 13, 2012. On this day in 1307 (Friday) the Knights Templar were arrested and tortured because the authorities thought they had money. Today all US citizens are Knights Templar except those who are “poor”.

And that's all I have for today.

12 okay, you wants news? Here's some news, the lazy man's way: from Drudge:

The snowballing troubles of Jesse Jackson Jr. took a new turn Friday with the revelation that federal investigators have launched a probe into “suspicious activity” in the South Shore congessman’s finances.
Focusing on a completely new area of scrutiny for the son of the famed civil rights leader, the investigation is not related to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s attempted sale of a U.S. Senate seat, a scandal that has ensnared Jackson in the past, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Rather, the probe — based in the Washington, D.C., FBI field office —is focusing on “suspicious activity” involving the congressman’s finances related to his House seat and the possibility of inappropriate expenditures, the sources said.

15 via Drudge: city = NYC

Soft-drink makers, restaurateurs and other businesses are suing to block the city's move to end the sale of super-sized, sugary drinks in many eateries.
The American Beverage Association and others sued the city Friday. City officials had no immediate response. The city Board of Health approved the unprecedented regulation last month. It would stop restaurants, cafeterias and concession stands from selling soda and other high-calorie drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces.

Everyone knew. On August 30th, Jamaa Islamiya, a terrorist group according to the State Department, announced publicly they were going to protest the Egyptian embassy in support of the blind Sheik, Omar Abdel-Rahman.

On September 10th, Ayman al Zawahiri, the head of al Qaeda after bin Laden's death, released a video calling for retaliation for the drone killing of Abu Yahya al Libi who as his name suggests was from Libya.

83 55 teej, I was a professional guitarist when I was a kid and later a vocalist for thirty+ years. I have played the guitar since I was 12. I got a lesson from Freddie King once that was the Blues boiled down to three concepts. amazing.
Eric Johnson went to a rival high school and we were competitors.
I've been a Machinist for 45+ years too and built parts for everything from Voyager to Nuke Subs to the Space Station.
So I decided to start repairing guitars. I invented a way to do neck resets without removing the neck and using my skills, do the best fret work I've ever seen. Not bragging just fact. My first job was looked at by some of the best guys in the Austin area and they were amazed at the set up I was able to get out of a Les Paul. When I retire from machining I will open a shop.

The purple states prefer cinnamon raisin bagels. As a Jew and a New Yorker, anything other than plain, onion, sesame, poppy seed or pumpernickel is NOT a bagel.

And don't get me started on pizza.

To follow up on Vic's Knights Templar post - March 18, 1314. The last Grand Master of the Order in chains and in full Templar attire before the people of Paris, Jacques de Morlay recanted his prior confession.

"I think it only right that at so solemn a moment, when my life has so little time to run, I should reveal the great deception which has been practiced and speak up for the truth. Before heaven and earth and all of you here as my witnesses, I admit that I am guilty of the grossest iniquity. But the iniquity is that I have lied in admitting the disgusting charges laid against the Order. I declare, and I must declare, that the Order is innocent. Its purity and saintliness are beyond question. I have indeed confessed that the Order is guilty, but I have done so only to save myself from terrible tortures by saying what my enemies wished me to say. Other knights who have retracted their confessions have been led to the stake, yet the thought of dying is not so awful that I shall confess foul crimes which have never been committed. Life is offered to me, but at the price of infamy. At such a price, life is not worth having. I do not grieve that I must die if life can be bought only by piling one lie upon another."

It is for me too. Right now, Obama needs to equal his 2008 performance to be able to eke out a narrow win. Considering Dem and Ind enthusiasm for him were what drove his 2008 numbers, and their lack of enthusiasm are driving today's numbers, there is no way he can win.

CAC and I disagree on what turnout will look like. He agrees with a lot of pundits (and Rasmussen) that we will see D+3. Even Romney's pollster has been saying that. However, when I look at all the evidence out there, and the trends in these internals, I'm seeing a replay of 2010 with an Even turnout, or maybe R+1. But even with D+3, Romney wins handily if the election were today.

That is THE Obama stronghold. He has to run up huge totals out of that county to win Ohio. In 2008 Ohio was D+8 and Obama won narrowly. In 2010 Ohio was R+1. And in 2012 he is under running his 2010 numbers. About 1/5th of all votes in Ohio are from Cuyahoga County.

This is very bad news for Obama.

No, it's good news. We are back to normal Rasmussen pattern. Overall the race has shift 4 points toward Romney in his daily track. Keep in mind, D+3 sample.

What we want right now if for the Romney lead to solidify. The longer Obama goes being unable the change the dynamic, the worse things get for them. Their strategy has always been to stay in the lead and appear inevitable. As long as Romney is leading, their strategy is broken.

142 My Benghazi questions for today, which I think are important:

Even assuming that the intelligence community (whoever in the hell that is since it seems to include a lot more than the CIA) did tell the White House that the attack was due to the now-discredited video, WOULDN'T SOMEONE IN THE STATE DEPARTMENT, HAVE TOLD THEM THAT BLAMING THE VIDEO WAS WRONG?

I assume that this information could easily have been conveyed to someone in the White House through a phone call or email.

They were determined to use the video excuse. Remember, they even cut an ad which played on television in Pakistan, blaming the video which they had to have known was not the reason for the attack.

And now, since Obama has spent an entire month yammering about that video on Pakistani TV and before the United Nations and on The View and Comedy Central, today the head AQ guy is now calling for retaliation for the video, which dollars to doughnuts he wouldn't have known about except for Obama. So the second question is IS AL QAEDA'S THREAT OF RETALIATION AN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE OR A DELIBERATE RESULT OF A PLAN TO ENGINEER A TERROR ATTACK PRIOR TO THE ELECTION?

Posted by: Miss Marple at October 13, 2012 09:38 AM (GoIUi)

If Allen is seeing a small lead, it will be a close elections. He will be helped by the Romney turnout operation though. That is targeting the GOP base, and they won't split tickets.

169 I wonder if the airlines should start a new program for Democrat politicians -- frequent liar miles

It works like this.........

*They get 1 lie per every 500 miles flown.*

*If their lie balance is below zero, they are denied boarding passes until they tell enough offsetting verifiable truths about previous lies.*

This should provide a bonanza of income for the airlines, with Dems furiously flying around the country to rack up lies. The artful ones will take to lying ON airplane phones to avoid letting any dust collect on unused lies. This too will lead to more revenues.

Finally, it would provide great comedy every month when the airlines report which Dems are |in the hole|. If successful, the program could be expanded to Republicans, which could then sell their liar miles to the Dems for a nice profit.

Hey, I'm just trying to help the economy out.

173 We have a Moronette that works for a polling firm. They have been calling into Florida for awhile and seeing the strong move toward Romney, but Mack isn't getting the same move. Right now it is looking like the Inds are going to split their tickets here.

We will see, but the public polls are show a strong lead for Nelson. And Mack seems to be short on money. The pro-Nelson ads are outnumbering the pro-Mack ads by a lot. I see way more Nelson ads than Obama ads now.

I think that the DSCC decided that they can only save a few in their caucus, and have made Nelson a hill to die on. So they are all in.

I think President Obama got hoist on his own petard: he latched onto blaming the video to cover-up his administration's monumental failure to provide an ambassador even minimally acceptable security. He is a malevolant man of (barely) average intellegence -- no way was he gaming Al Qaeda into making an attack on his terms.

Frankly, at this point, another terrorist attack will just cause the few wavering undecideds to vote for Romney. The administration is already reeling from people beginning to realize what actually happened in Libya. Another attack will just be more proof that Obama is a feckless weakling.

192 WOULDN'T SOMEONE IN THE STATE DEPARTMENT, HAVE TOLD THEM THAT BLAMING THE VIDEO WAS WRONG?

Yes. And not just state but the intelligence community as well. Hard to prove unless people start leaking but there is no way they didn't know this was a coordinated effort by al Qaeda. Don't forget, Zawahiri's brother is a leader in al Qaeda in Egypt which controls al Qaeda in northern Africa.

IS AL QAEDA'S THREAT OF RETALIATION AN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE OR A DELIBERATE RESULT OF A PLAN TO ENGINEER A TERROR ATTACK PRIOR TO THE ELECTION?

I chalk it up more to pure incompetence. Obama has tried to make his foreign policy and handling of al Qaeda a hallmark of his campaign. Things may look quiet because there haven't been as many large scale attacks and somehow our media has lost interest in reporting on this stuff but al Qaeda is growing. They thrive in areas where there are failed states and Obama's feckless handling of the Arab spring allowed Islamic groups to gain huge footholds in northern Africa, Yemen and other places.

With the fall of Libya, an enormous cache of weapons from Qadaffi fell into terrorist hands. And Libya, which was always a stronghold of al Qaeda fighters, has become pretty much what Afghanistan was a decade ago, a failed state dominated by Islamic nuts.

al Qaeda doesn't need an excuse to attack us. They do it for whatever reason suits them. Sure, they will use the video now but they have been hitting us and will continue to until we stop them.

201 Anyone see a Canadian documentary called Life With Murder?

A guy murders his sister and luckily is convicted and sent to prison. However, his parents stand by him. It's sick. First, he blamed it on drug dealers. Recently, he admitted that he shot her accidentally (5 times). He dragged her body down into the basement. As the police tried to tell his parents, it was so when they came inside it wouldn't be the first thing they saw because he was planning on murdering them, too. There was evidence that the son had forged several wills leaving everything to himself. The parents are in complete denial.

Anyway, the parents continue to fluff the son, he'll probably get out in 2014, his parents are old and sickly so he will inherit everything.

236 Knights Templar? Today is a very significant date, if you go back far enough. On October 13, 54, the Emperor Claudius died of severe indigestion after eating a plate of mushrooms, and his stepson Nero became emperor, even though Claudius left a son and heir Britannicus. Oddly enough, Britannicus soon died of severe indigestion at an imperial dinner party. I dunno, Dave. It's all too easy to picture Boner and Bitch McConnell "reaching across the aisle" and selling us out. Again. That's doubly true when the end result means more of our money for them to piss away.

The only part of the story I don't buy is the "big spending cuts." When has anyone in Congress shied away from the public teat?

After we dispose of Choom Boy in November, it's time to root out our so-called "servants" who have spent too many years wolfing down the taxpayer-purchased cookies (and, for Boner, booze) without ever offering anything in return except empty bluster. All of the miserable slimeballs need to go.

271 Yes, it should be obvious. But what is happening right now appears to be Inds are planning to split their votes. That is where Romney is getting his polling lead.

Now, if we get a monster turnout in addition to that Ind preference (which is clearly the GOP plan), then Mack should win.

This would be similar to 2004 when Bush won Florida by 5 points. We all thought that Martinez would have coattails and help Bush, but it worked the other way. Martinez barely won, thanks to Bush turning out the base.

I have faith in the cognitive dissonance of Independents. They don't see the tie between getting rid of a law they hate and the need to elect a Republican Senator.

Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 13, 2012 11:02 AM (dX4hn)

272 Obaka isn't going to make last-minute deals with the Republican House and senate members. He's too busy right now trying to put the fires out caused by Benghazi, Univision, and his own douchebaggery last week. If he tied for a deal this close to the election the leftards would scream "sellout" and stay home.

As for the polls in the embattled states right now, i would like to paraphrase a popular computer game. "The poll is a lie." The pollsters poisoned their own well with left-wing bias, so now almost no one will talk to them. So we get these ridiculously mis- representational polls in a 4-9% return rate, and Obaka still can't poll ahead by a decent margin.A whole bunch of people who are not answering the poll phones (like me) are going to vote Republican in OH and other states in a couple of weeks. Obaka and his people are going to be mumbling about the license of the truck that ran them over that day.

Hey, Ladies... Belk, Dillards, JC Penney, Macy's.? Which one should I go to (if any of them) to buy my wife a gift made of silk? Twelfth Anniversary Monday and I'm trying to keep my long string of sticking to the "traditional" list. It amuses my wife to no end that I do it. Very not like me. Those are the 4 main stores at the local mall. I'm not going to get her lingerie, so it's either real clothing (that's a scary proposition), ormaybe a scarf? Sheets might do the trick(seems a little utilitarian).

I would go to Macy's. They are always having sales. If you are a Macy's cardholder, there is always additional discounting. I'd also get her a silk scarf if you are trying to stick to the list or a silk sweater. Scarves are very in this fall. The nice lady at the counter will help you find something (just tell her your wife's color preferences, also what colors her coats or tops are that she would wear a scarf with). I think it's very sweet that you are sticking to the traditional anniversary gift schedule. Good on you! Lots of husband points for that! (It's always good to have a cache of extra husband points when you need to get out of a jam!) Happy Anniversary!

Obama's new thing right now is all about how he saved Detroit and Detroit saved America.

The last thing I want to hear is 3 more weeks about the great city of Detroit and how it's America's city.

Obama is also implying that Your car, the one you own now, is going to magically get double its fuel mileage --- because Obama decreed it so.

All thanks to Detroit and Obama...the man who saved Detroit.

290 Dave in fla, I hope you've seen the Ohio 2008 vs 2012 early vote totals spreadsheet. It is amazing to behold. It shows the Republicans have narrowed the gap from over 14% behind the democrats in early vote totals (over 200,000 votes) to being only behind by 6% (about 60,000 votes). Democrat enthusiasm is down by 10% in most areas and Republican turnout is up nearly 6-10%.

In Cuyahoga county Republican turnout right now is higher than in 2008 in total votes. Around a 136% INCREASE.

Mormon bishop's daughter spills Romney's 'secrets' ...
'Would you trust the judgment of a man if he truly believes he's gonna be a god?'
Published: 10/12/2011 at 8:10 PM
Erickson says Romney believes:
•He will become a “god” in the afterlife and be given his own planet
•Satan is Jesus’ literal brother

•Jesus was not born of a virgin birth

•He will be given his own afterlife kingdom where he will have sexual relations with his wife, Ann, to populate his kingdom with spirit children as God the Father Himself has a wife on His own planet.

Author and former Mormon Tricia Erickson

“Mormonism teaches we pre-existed on God the Father’s planet as spirit children before we were planted in our mother’s wombs,” Erickson told WND. “And the reason why we’re here according to Mormonism, is so that we can work out our own progression to godhood and our own planets themselves.”

The author, who herself was married in a Mormon temple at age 19 but now considers herself a non-denominational Christian, says there’s a secret agenda Mormon officials don’t like to talk about publicly.

“A complete takeover of the government,” she said. “They have more people in the CIA, the FBI. They have an employment office for Mormons in D.C. to be able to infiltrate them into the government.”

Whatever you do, don't buy anything that's too big! She will say "Do you reallythink I look that big?" And you will be sleeping alone on the cold, hard couch!

Hi runningrn! Long time no see, how goes the running

Hi Chemmy! I'm fine, how are you? The running is good. It only started raining here yesterday. Hopefully, it's a little more dry tomorrow. I did a half marathon last Sunday and am doing another one tomorrow. My hubby's older sister, played tennis in high school, but she's been sedentary for decades since. Last November, she got off the couch and started doing Zumba. This July 4th, shestarted to run, and she loves it! In August, she signed up for the half marathon that's tomorrow! This is her first race ever--totally skipped doing a 5k or a 10k, just went for it! Her younger sister and I had been trying for years to get her to run, to do a 5k or a Turkey Trot or something. Nothing for years! We are running the half with her and a couple of her friends tomorrow. I am so proud of her! I know she will have a great race because she's been so consistent in her training.
The boys (our husbands and their kids) are going to be out there on the course with cowbells, thundersticks and cameras. Hopefully, it won't be raining too hard! I made a sign for her kid (who's driving 5 hours from college) to hold. It says "THIS IS WAAY EASIER THAN GIVING BIRTH TO ME! MOM, YOU ROCK, YOU INSPIRE!!"

358 Dave in fla, this is why I think Romney is on track to win in Ohio. The proportion of democrats to republicans is on pace to be about 7-10% less democrat than in 2008. With Romney winning independents in almost every poll, there is no way outside of a major campaign gaffe by Romney would he not win Ohio.

Obama I believe won Ohio only by 4 in 2008. If democrat turnout is down by 7-10%, he loses this time.

370 OK, I'm not a concern troll. However, there is something that bothers me a lot about Romney/the Romney campaign and that is its closeness with National Review. I get that it would have to have connections in the national conservative media but I do NOT trust NRO at all. Their behavior in the run-up to the 2019 elections was inexcusable - trying to discredit the grassroots, endorsing John McCain (even though they don't endorse in Republican primaries), etc. With Lowry Ponnuru at the helm, I've found them nothing but shills for the Republican Old Guard (although I still like a few of their writers). And yet Romney seems to be dealing exclusively with/through them which doesn't bode well. Anyway, just need to get that said, maybe I'll feel better now or maybe I'm just neurotic.

People probably don't even know or remember Reverend Wright. But Romney is a member of an extreme, weird religious cult. That's what the MFM is going to run with.

Anyway, I'm less than a month from the Wine and Dine half marathon at Disney. I went and watched the start of the 10 miler and it was so cool with the fireworks to start off each group.

I'm maintaining better than a 14 min/mile pace through all of the long runs now, but still hitting pretty hard walls when I'm about 2 miles from the end. I really think it is mental. But I am finishing!

I love wraps. No matter the climate you can use wrap either alone or with coat. Pashmina blended with silk is a really lovely combination. With a wrap you dont have to worry about size either than how large you want the shaw.

Another slightly more practical idea is silk long underwear. It is great alternative to the bulky stuff.

The Republicans 'establishment' is still highly influential and powerful. A candidate won't get very far, nationally, without them.

And if a candidate oppose them, they'll do everything they can to stop that candidate.

We mock that Georgian Whatsherface woman, but she undoubtedly has lot of yank in Washington and in fundraising circles.

Romney wasn't my first choice or even my second but since he became the candidate he's grown on me. The 5K was so much stinking fun. I started in Group D and finished with Group B. It was so cool to actually pass people.

My pace is fast enough that even if I could only make it to mile 11, I could walk the last 2 miles and not get swept.

Yay! You have the competitive spirit! It is fun to pass people. As a woman, it is particularly gratifying to pass men (we girls call it "getting chicked"--some guys hate when that happens, and they try to pass us back).

Ha! I've never had fireworks to start me off at a race! How cool is that! I've run some big races too (Chicago, NY, Marine Corps and Boston Marathons), and we never had fireworks! Marine Corps had an Osprey and hubby said an F-16 fly over us at the start.

I wonder if you are bonking on your long runs--running out of glyocgen. That's where sports gels/Gu come in handy. There are also Sport Beans (like jelly beans and sports chews come in handy). Some of them have electrolytes and caffeineas well as calories. You get depleted when you go long, so sometimes you need a little nutrition along the way. I usually take 2 Roctane Gus during an half marathon (at 45 and 90 minutes). Even gummy bears or mini tootsie rolls are helpful. You should try eating something during your long runs. Are you hydrating too? Carrying water? I do that for any long run over 10 miles. (Shorter distances if it's warm.) Definitely practice eating and drinking on your long runs. Don't do anything new during a race! Be sure you are eating something a couple of hours before your long runs too.

421 Back from the mall. A failure.I just read all the comments, and I guessI should've just asked a sales clerk at Macy's, but I was clueless. Plenty of scarves, but all of them as a component of some outfit, and there was no way I was buying her a wholesuit of clothes, that would just be weird. I guess I thought this was going to be simple so I didn't bother to think too hard about it.

Now I'm thinking I might have better luck at one of the shops downtown. I couldn't name any of them, but they are your typical galleries, boutiques, etc. I can window shop the whole street in an 8 or 9 minute walk. That will have to wait until Monday lunch hour, right down to the wire. Maybe I'll get her some sort of art made of silk? She's not into Oriental stuff or that would be easy. Thanks for the tips.

There is a little color choice.

From their press conference:

"Recently released polling data from the SBA List shows that President
Obama loses support from likely swing voters once they are educated on
his extreme abortion record. A majority of swing voters (54%) are less
likely to vote for President Obama after learning that he voted against a
law to give equal treatment to babies born alive after a failed
abortion (35% much less likely). Key voter groups were also negatively
impacted including independents (46%) and pro-choicers (43%)."

For a romantic present, I'd go with a silk robe/kimono which would be easy to find, even on the internet, and probably very easy to fit.

This site has some pretty ones:

IIRC you did the very thoughtful jewelry gift for Christmas, didn't you? Anyway, if you have time, you could try to find a pretty embroidered item, because embroidery thread is made of silk. Depending on her tastes, you could find a nice table runner or a framed picture or saying.

For example, this is gorgeous, romantic, and on the internet!

http://mittcares.com/
...

Biden's Democrat Party lip service to veterans is smothered by the Obama administration J.Napolitano initial DHS memo targeting returned military veterans for surveillance as threats to national security being enemies of the State.

Mitt's "compassionate conservative" approach respects the Americans who've managed to return alive from military service.

It's one thing to be kind to veterans, and quite another to prevent the abuse of our active military personnel.

Reconsider Matthew 23:27 as it applies to all. "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like
whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they
are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness." Nation building, no matter what it's called, is utter failure.

Expendable is already policy. In short, Mitt, don't send our military where you wouldn't send your own sons. Ounce of prevention v. pound of cure; waste not, want not the value of life.

454 Lincoln, another 'ette weighing in here. If your wife wears scarves or robes, either is a great choice. However if she does not, I suggest avoiding them (I don't wear either, and they'd likely go unused in the long run).

Other options are a silk blouse or sweater. It's not too hard to get the right size and even if you don't she can exchange it. As you're shopping in that section, look for a woman about your wife's size and ask her what size she wears, or a salesperson can help. If in doubt about two sizes, buy the smaller (runningrn is right!).

I also encourage you not to wait until lunch on Mon. You'll be forced into purchasing something, anything, and this might not work out well. I second the idea of going back to Macy's or Dillard's and get a salesperson's help.

If you get overwhelmed with choices, just think of a common color your wife likes and start there. Does she tend to wear solid colors, or patterns, or both? This can help you narrow down the options.

Best of luck!
