Iowahawk: Biden Did What He Had To Do Last Night: Audition For a 5 PM Slot on MSNBC In January.

Meanwhile, Giuliani has some fun, too: Libya is a teaching moment for Obama. Because he'll be teaching classes next year.

1 One part Biden reminded me of the Joker when telling the seniors about all the stuff he was gonna give them. And I quote Biden "And now, folks, it's time for "Who do you trust!" Hubba, hubba, hubba! Money, money, money! Who do you trust? Me? I'm giving away free money.' End Biden quote.

6 I disagree with Giuliani, Obama isn't going to do anything thing that resembles real work again for the rest of his life after November 6 regardless of the outcome of the election. He'll just be looking to lead the easy life of playing golf, hanging with celebrities and otherwise being part of the leisure class. Only difference will be the types of speeches he gives and who is footing the bill for him to jet around making them.

13 It's never a wise idea to count chickens before they hatch. This election won't be over until the last dead felon votes 4x in 4 different precincts in Cleveland. Then we might have 2-3 months of lawsuits, appeals, injunctions, writs, etc. The Dems fight like cornered animals. Leftism is a mental disorder, not a legitimate ideology. They won't go quietly into the night. Letting one's guard down against the media-union-Democrat cabal can and sometimes has been a fatal mistake. Hopefully next month conservatives will remember that hubris never won a single election.

48 This was an interesting ppint in a piece at the Daily Beast by Medved:

The biggest winner of this encounter?

Neither Biden nor Ryan, but probably Mitt Romney. As one physician (and former political candidate himself) noted to our enthusiastic debate crowd, Biden mentioned Obama only in passing, scarcely touching on his achievements, his inspiring leadership, or any grand new plans (what new plans?) for the future. Instead, he emphasized his own dubious role in major events. Ryan, by contrast, repeatedly spoke of Romney, warmly praising his qualifications, his character, his vision, and his five-point platform for recovery.

If Biden had behaved himself, then it wouldn't be so embarassing. But his behavior is what kept Ryan from speaking (aside from being cut off by Biden's co-debate partner)

Perino was outraged, pointed out the impossibility of communications, and demanded Beckel withdraw the comment, which he refused to do.

If I were here I would refuse to work with him any more.

You know what I find hilarious about LiLo's endorsement of Romney? She actually had a reason that was based on some passing familiarity with reality. Who knew she knew anything about that?

Posted by: alexthechick - SMOD/Whiteboard 2012 at October 12, 2012 06:10 PM (Gk3SS)

178 All 112 past and present Supreme Court Justices have held law degrees or have been admitted to the bar at some point before being appointed the bench. Those who served in the early days of the Court would have been said to "read law" under the tutelage of another lawyer before being admitted to the local bar so may not have held a law degree, because there were few law schools back then, and it was not necessary to hold a degree in order to be admitted to the bar.

Not all supreme court justices had been judges, though. Notable examples are John Marshall, William Rehnquist, and Earl Warren.

Answer

Although not required by the Constitution, all 112 members of the US Supreme Court have been lawyers, although not all attended or graduated law school. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the United States had few law schools, so a person who wanted to become a lawyer would read about the law and then apprentice under a practicing attorney.

Levi Woodbury (1845-1851) was the first justice to graduate law school (Litchfield Law School, now defunct).

Stanley Forman Reed (1938-1957) was the last justice to serve without a law degree.

Today, candidates for the US Supreme Court are usually chosen from among those who attended the nation's top law schools, such as Harvard and Yale.

Actually i was wrong ( must be the first time?) they were all lawyers.

233 The more I think about this who Libya catastrophe the more questions I have.

Last night Biden claimed he and Obama weren't aware of requests for additional security in Libya. Pretending for the sake of argument this is true and they're squeaky clean innocent of any wrongdoing...

Why, in the face of the Benghazi murders (not to mention riots at 20+ other embassies), did Obama jump on a plane to campaign in Vegas?

If he really, truly, knew nothing prior to those events, surely he was shocked and wanted to get to the bottom of it. If he had done nothing wrong, he should have wanted heads to roll, wanted to haul in the heads of all involved agencies to find out what the hell happened and what to do now. That trip to Vegas is damning.

And why was no rescue attempt made before the outcome of the events was known? Under what possible circumstances could our Amb be missing, our embassy in flames from an Al Qaeda attack, and we not send anyone in to help? I hope help was sent and they just can't talk about it.

You laugh at the shit as it hits the fan and you proclaim yourself King of Shit.

This was all planned. Those were not "involuntary mannerisms" or "tics". Notice Biden didn't grin or roll his eyes or smirk or grunt when he himself was doing the talking. The grunts and groans and giggles only happened when he was supposed to be the silent one. He wanted the focus to be on the grunts. He wanted his giggles to distract people from listening to what Ryan was saying. He was stealing the show, on purpose.

It was an old magician's trick. Keep the audience looking over here so they don't see what is going on over there.

The
Romney campaign put out a statement by former CIA director Michael
Hayden and former Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff that
read:

“During the Vice Presidential debate, we were disappointed to see
Vice President Biden blame the intelligence community for the
inconsistent and shifting response of the Obama Administration to the
terrorist attacks in Benghazi. Given what has emerged publicly about the
intelligence available before, during, and after the September 11
attack, it is clear that any failure was not on the part of the
intelligence community, but on the part of White House decision-makers
who should have listened to, and acted on, available intelligence.
Blaming those who put their lives on the line is not the kind of
leadership this country needs.”

So I cannot recall where I read this--I think a foreign news source that there was an emergency meeting between Hillary, Obama and an unnamed national security advisor that night and the idea of sending in a rescue team (larger than the eight military scrambled from Tripoli) was vetoed.

Now that seems to make sense because in the run up to Libya the argument was made that we would get dragged in by mission creep.

Adding troops on the ground that would be targets and then having to defend or answer ....

So it is more than possible this tangle of the vanities wanting to be "right" more than they wanted to save the few.

315 From the Thompson piece:

Ryan’s Courage, A Glimpse At The Future

I think that Paul Ryan handled him beautifully. He made his case in
his usual sincere and intelligent fashion and was unruffled be the
antics of the fellow one heartbeat away from the presidency. I know that
some only judge a debate performance in terms of “aggressiveness,” but
Ryan walked the fine line between standing his ground and being
respectful and not being sucked into the pit by Joe. I even thought he
looked at Joe with a certain amount of sympathy a time or two.
Ryan’s strong suit is that he has had the courage to speak the truth
about our fiscal crisis and propose actual reforms. It is not his
oft-mentioned intellect that separates him from others. It is his
courage – the most-needed and most-lacking commodity in Washington. He
represents the future if we are to have a future.

337 It may have not pulled anyone to the Obama side, but it did have the intended effect of blunting the Romney/Ryan message. No one today is talking about the R proposals, they are all focused on crazy Uncle Joe. After last week's debate, people were ready to listen to Ryan, and Uncle Joe used OWS tactics of chaos and confusion to block the message. It may not have won them any points, but it kept our team from running up the score.

They had to introduce static to the message so it could not be heard. In that, he succeeded.

"You know what it's like when someone won't take no for an answer, and they just keep going and going and going, and you just finally don't care what happens anymore so long as it all stops? That was me."

"That's a good question... when exactly do I think I made my first mistake? When I moved to Cleveland?"

Seriously, I would hate to be a bus driver.

368 I think the Ryan/Biden debate will be a net loss for Obama. I don't know that people really think so much about the policy talk. I think they wAn to get an idea of whether they'd be comfortable with a candidate as VP. Biden came across as a buffoon and contemptuous of Ryan. It reflected badly on him. People who were already in the Obama camp loved it. Anyone else really on the fence thought, "Biden is a SOB." It didn't win many votes for Obama.

The norwegians have picked some real winners. Kissinger accepted a peace prize for the "ending" the Vietnam war, two years later the North invaded and took over the South. The NV winner at least had the integrity (imagine a communist with integrity!!!) to turn it down.

Obama won the award after about 90 days in office. And then he "air raided villages" with his drone killing program. And remember how he closed down Guantanamo? Yeah, me neither.

With this award, (and even without it), expect the EU to break up in 3 years, after the Euro currency fails in about 15 months. And there will be border skirmishes somewhere in the EU by 2020. Probably near Greece.

it did have the intended effect of blunting the Romney/Ryan message. No
one today is talking about the R proposals, they are all focused on
crazy Uncle Joe. After last week's debate, people were ready to listen
to Ryan, and Uncle Joe used OWS tactics of chaos and confusion to block
the message. It may not have won them any points, but it kept our team
from running up the score.

They had to introduce static to the message so it could not be heard. In that, he succeeded.

Klein said relations between the Clintons and President Obama have
reached a new low, most recently with Obama ignoring Bill Clinton’s
offer to help him and Vice President Joe Biden prepare for the debates
with the Republican ticket.

“He had very clear ideas on how they should do that,” Klein told
TheDC. “He never once got a response. And it absolutely sent him into
orbit. He was furious that he would be treated this way, especially
after what he did, in his view, at the Democratic convention in giving
that nomination speech for Obama.”

Added Klein: “His fury turned to deep concern when the Benghazi
business unfolded because he was deeply troubled by the appearance that
the White House was going to throw Hillary under the bus, which in fact
it appears it is doing.”

we gave to Northern Alliance and others in Afghanistan when they were
fighting the Soviets.

535 It's pure luck that Behghazi happened to occur right before the height of an election season that only happens once every four years. Because otherwise there would be no debates, thus no opportunity for GOPers to get national attention while questioning the administration. If it'd happened any other time, this would be just another horrible scandal swept under the carpet by the media (see: Fast Furious; Ft Hood murders, etc.).

Given this reality, that it's sheer luck we have the opportunity to make the Prez and VP answer questions, then all pretenses are off. Forget the media, we need PACs to produce ads to tell the public about what is going on regarding the murders, cover up, blameshifting, lying, complete disregard for the safety of Americans, O's taking off to Vegas and other damning details.

I don't give a shit if they're accused of politicizing the situation. The people need to know. Romney and Ryan can only go so far given the limited time they'll have in the debates and the lies Obama will spew if forced to respond. We need blunt ads to spell it out to people. If they really understood the situation as we do, Obama goes down hard, and fast.

Man, I really hope a pissed off high-information voter gets a microphone at next week's town hall. That's another way to get away with a blunt direct question which the media won't ask.

Millions in the LDS Church believe that Mitt Romney is the prophesied Mormon “One Mighty and Strong”. 170 years ago Joseph Smith predicted the emergence of “the One Mighty and Strong” – a leader who would “set in order the house of God”

“White Horse Prophecy” -– a belief ingrained in Mormon culture and passed down through generations by church leaders that the day would come when the U.S. Constitution would “hang like a thread as fine as a silk fiber” and the Mormon Priesthood would save it.”Mitt Romney is not just a Mormon Priest but he is a LDS Stake President, which is equivalent to being a high ranking bishop in the LDS Church.

“Romney was a product of this culture and both he and his fellow BYU students actually believed because of Romney’s highly successful accomplishments as a youth leader that he was divinely appointed to finally be the “One Mighty and Strong” who would fill the Joseph Smith prophecy as the Mormon President of the United States of America .”Many had thought that Romney’s father was the “One Mighty and Strong” during his unsuccessful Presidential run.

574 Fact Check: Biden's Chopper Was 'Forced Down' by Snowflakes
Published October 02, 2008
Associated Press

When Joe Biden tells voters he understands the threat posed by Afghan extremists, he dramatically illustrates one reason why: His helicopter was "forced down" on "the superhighway of terror." Actually, snow, not the enemy, persuaded the helicopter pilot to land and wait out a storm.
The Democratic vice presidential candidate has repeatedly left that part out, in an episode that Republicans hope will become an echo of Hillary Rodham Clinton's errant tale during the primaries of landing in Bosnia under sniper fire.

Biden was flying a helicopter on a secret mission in Afghanistan. His copter was fired upon by three Soviet MIG-29s. Biden had no weapons so he made some Sidewinder missiles out of a pizza box and some fishing lures.

Two of the MIG s were shot down the third surrendered. It turns out the pilot of the third MIG was a beautiful Latvian gal named Katya who joined Biden on his mission and later bore him three sons all named Joe except for the one named Scranton.

676 MORE EVIDENCE OF ENTHUSIASM ADVANTAGE FOR REPUBLICANS
link for below https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0As9lU8QOUCesdFlXNDBHYS0tLWRoQlFfRmJBcTFqSFE#gid=0

The absentee ballot numbers from a few days ago got me intrigued. Turns out comparing 2008 to 2012 might not be best because starting in 2010 absentee ballot requests were sent out statewide. In 2008 ballot requests were sent out to just a few urban counties, so changes from 2008 are irregular.

So I thought, why not compare with 2010 absentees and see if the electorate is similar this year. In 2010 the D/R/I split was 36-37-28.

For this analysis, I used the #s available at Ohio State Elections.

So, I first took the 2010 absentee ballots for each county and calculated the % of the ballots cast for each county.

Then I compare that with the % of absentee requests this year and calculate a figure for % of requests in 2012 for each county.

This is not really apples to apples because it's cast vs requested but it measures a 'county voter eagerness' and works for a comparison vis a vis counties.

OK so I look at the change between these numbers.

And now we have a measure of 'voter eagerness change' for each county from 2010 to 2012.

Next number to pump in is R factor, that's the # of pts McCain 2008 won or lost for each county. For example Cuyahoga is a -38.4 R factor because Mccain lost by 38.

I then take the R factor and multiply with 'voter eagerness' change from 2010 to 2012. This then gets a impact of that voter eagerness for each county, weighted for their share statewide.

I then sum those all together and get a number of 49+R out of a total of 246. This is arbitrary but what it means is Rs are 20% more eager to vote than democrats, and that's comparing from 2010!

698 My strategy is to take one of the County Commissioner seats here in Bristol County. What does that get you? A budget of about $6m and several dozen patronage jobs to dole out.

Those patronage jobs go to people who will be your on the ground thug-and-GOTV army. Local races. selectman, city council, school board. Every race gets you more influence and a few more soldiers. And the tide starts to turn red. Soon, you're grabbing state senatorships and house seats, and even a Conressional seat.

Slow steps. Organize. Stay disciplined. Pull them away one by one from the Democrats.

When we've remade Briwtol County, we can show other regional GOP orgs how we did it, and how they can do it, too.

Soon you've made it acceptable to be a republican in Massachusetts. And acceptable to fight for a conservative agenda.

Small steps, big gains. All from a County seat.

That's how we attack the democrats...
