In Nevada, the poll listed below by CAC has a D+7 spread. This is close to the registration split. That poll shows Romney within 1 of Obama. If the GOP turnout is anything like it was for the primary and NV01 special last year, this would mean a huge Romney & Heller win.
furthermore, in 2010, the Dems were ahead in the amsentee ballot requests. Even though Reid won against An gle (Reid's dream opponent), his son lost to now Gov. Sandoval by double digits, AND the GOP received more votes for assembly caniddates then Dems in DECADES. *smiles* Posted by: The Political Hat at October 10, 2012 09:30 PM (sZTYJ) 8

My first instinct is that PA is a tease just from past experiences. Philly is a lot to overcome. But they delivered in 2010. Despite being off year, that's not nothing.
We stick with Ohio of course, but at some point you reach diminshed returns with time and money there, and you start to cast a wider net. My theory has been that Obama has been a more urban focused President than we have seen in a long time, both in action and words. Our biggest opportunity in swing states would be peeling off the old school union type dems that rightfully feel betrayed by their union bosses. I look at states that don't have huge urban centers as our best shot. The urban machines will still be there. The union machines are very much diminished. I still think I like our chances in IA, WI, CO, and maybe NH and NV better than in PA, despite the recent polling. Maybe thats just because we always seem to give PA an honest shot and Lucy has always pulled the football. Posted by: Dave S. at October 10, 2012 09:46 PM (UvR6d) 57

"I would add Montana to this list."
Look I get that everyone wants to put their favorite race into the list. But the truth is that Nevada and Montana are not problems. Heller and Rehberg are both holding good leads in all the polling. If they start to slip, then things change. But the ones I list (other than OH and MA) are races WE ARE LOSING and WE CAN WIN. Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 10, 2012 09:59 PM (dX4hn) 117

A satire site did an article that the House was going to ban tampons, because they were foreign objects in Places Conservatives Don't Like To Think About. This was then passed around as fact by other sites, trollin'. The third generation passed it around the email circuit because they actually believe that line of poo. The fourth generation is the daughter you're all paying to send to college, getting the email and voting accordingly.

Sorry, Nevada is not as important as the others. Heller is holding a strong lead in all recent polls.
Those others I mention are ones where if money isn't spent, we will lose. Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 10, 2012 09:54 PM (dX4hn) Most of the polls have been withing MOE, and, as I've stated before, the state and Vega area offical GOP central committees are run by people who want to see Heller AND Romney go down in flames. If a preference cascade builds, it is of PRIME importance to shore up the Mountain West which is adding more and more population. This is a region that we can't afford to loose to the Progressive loonies that have destroyed California. Posted by: The Political Hat at October 10, 2012 10:01 PM (sZTYJ) 124

Posted by: The Political Hat at October 10, 2012 10:01 PM (sZTYJ) This seems like a valid point. Not only for 2012 election purposes, but because the state governments will be finding themselves embarrassed with riches as the oil and gas discoveries continue. Conservative state-level pols will have some influence on how that money is spent at the state level. Posted by: StPatrick_TN at October 10, 2012 10:06 PM (lJJMb) 132

shown they have little loyalty or devotion to principle of governance. They seem to be running to whichever side had Big Day. I'm still on a post debate buzz, but I won't forget that these same poll respondents had us downmost of time." Rush was talking about this today, and I think he has a good take on it. Political Hat - We had a similar problem with the RPOF here. They were all Crist loyalists and did not try to get Republicans elected, unless they were cronies. We had to take control of the local committees and conduct a coup.
Nevada GOP is going to have to clean house, and that will have to come from grassroots in the state. It can't be forced from the outside, or the RNC. It is worth the pain though. That is why we have Allen West and Marco Rubio now. Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 10, 2012 10:18 PM (dX4hn) 141

Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 10, 2012 10:10 PM (dX4hn) I can understand this thinking...that the debate gave people a reason to express what they've been thinking all along, and hiding from the pollsters. Could be. But aside from how the electorate actually is thinking privately, these polls could revert back to pre-debate with just a few negative news cycles. We just have to be ready for it. Well the next line would be people who are leading, but not by that much. NV, MT, and IN are good choices.

In Nevada, the poll listed below by CAC has a D+7 spread. This is close to the registration split. That poll shows Romney within 1 of Obama. If the GOP turnout is anything like it was for the primary and NV01 special last year, this would mean a huge Romney Heller win. furthermore, in 2010, the Dems were ahead in the amsentee ballot requests. Even though Reid won against An gle (Reid's dream opponent), his son lost to now Gov. Sandoval by double digits, AND the GOP received more votes for assembly caniddates then Dems in DECADES. *smiles* Posted by: The Political Hat at October 10, 2012 09:30 PM (sZTYJ) Reid stole it. He doesn't believe think people are really this volatile. He thinks
these opinions have been set in place for a long time, and it is only now showing up in the polling. Most people don't whipsaw their opinions like this. There have been studies on this. People just don't switch parties very often. And they mostly don't waffle back-and-forth over candidates either. The shifts are (a) response rates, (b) -who- is responding, (c) -one- shift per cycle per person, (d) enthusiasm, (e) "undecideds" actually making up their mind ... instead of just -saying- they've made up their mind. They will vote for people that don't "match their party". For the 'party ID shift', the average is -less- than one per lifetime. (D -> I -> R is "one", D I R -and-back- would be two.) Plenty of 'low information voters' spend just stick with "I" as party ID though and switch who they're voting for. That is: effective party ID switches more often than declared party ID. Weird as that seems. Posted by: Al at October 10, 2012 10:30 PM (MzQOZ) 148
