Tuesday Night Baseball Thread

There's no cheerleaders in baseball. THERE'S NO CHEERLEADERS.

But here's a baseball thread if'n you're so inclined. I can't tell you how much it hurts me that the Giants are down 2-0 in the series, the bastards. SF and Cincy tied 1-1 in the top of the 7th, Oakland (grrrr) and Detroit later. St. Louis (grrrr again) and Washington tied 1-1 from last night, as are the Yankees and the Orioles.

I suppose I will have to console myself again with two AL pennants.

They do have cheerleaders in football though.

Yes they do.

6 Detroit wins. The AL central was kinda like the Obama-Romney race. Chicago was in the lead all year, then had an epic implosion and Detroit got hot. Now Detroit is one game away from the ALCS, and Chicago is sitting at home doing something.

And yeah, Romney is from Michigan. Just sayin....

118 You know what would be great? If Ryan successfully demolishes every single liberal talking point on the economy in one night.
If Ryan can explain to the millions watching at home why the Democratic arguments on spending make no sense, and do it in a way they understand....we fucking win.

174 "McCain won it (Ohio) on election day"
No, he lost it before election day. A fair number of people voted "twice" in Cuyahoga County. First by absentee ballots as "somebody else", and then in person as on election day. I would bet at least 10,000 people in Cuyahoga voted twice on election day 2008. 10,000 is probably a low number.
There has been a big voter roll purge in Ohio, with 500K "dead" voters purged from the rolls, and 200K in Cuyahoga County alone. They will still cheat, but how big is anybody's guess. It depends how much "walking around" money Obama has to pay out before election day.

The Mob is strong and crooked in Cuyahoga County (city of Cleveland), in Canton (Stark County) and in Youngstown, home of the late Jimmy DeBartolo. You may remember his son Eddie, who used to own the San Francisco 49ers. He was mobbed up too.

As to CO: I live deep in the Boulder Valley / Denver "turnpike" toilet. Outside of here this state seems like Utah or Nebraska.

And even down here in the yogapotties, I'm not seeing the enthusiasm for Obama that I saw back in 2010 (when I came here). There was a sharp dropoff of 2008 stickers when that first Libya intervention went down. There are some 2012 stickers but not as many, and there are also some Romney stickers. Much more than the Tancredo stickers back in 2010.

So Romney has a good chance here.

185 174, Philly is the same way. Everyone rightly worries about the infamous Dem fraud machine, but if Obama's people blow off the locals and don't hand out the cash, they won't push too hard for him. They might just be arrogant or complacent enough to do that. Sestak didn't do it in 2010 and he ended up losing to Toomey, same with the Dem who ran for governor against Corbett. Of course the Presidency is a much bigger deal, but money talks, Obama or not.

And, or course, one can dream that the hubbub over the voter ID law will at least cause some people to look closer at the Philly returns.

At this point, Obama needs to at least equal Romney's victory in Debate #1 to pull out of his tailspin. That would also entail Romney totally crapping the bed.

Never say never, but I don't see it.

Posted by: Damn Sockpuppet at October 09, 2012 10:22 PM (yJYwC)

191 How good are the chances that voters will swing back to Obama, with less than a month to go? Obama's got to be absolutely PERFECT next time. He really raised the bar now. Watching him in Ohio today...he doesn't seem to have the energy required to win. There hasn't been a wake-up call. Ya know?
We all know Ryan will be great on Thursday. I don't think it will sway voters either direction, and that's the worst-case scenario. What matters is the next debate with Romney.
If I saw any change in Obama's energy; if he started to act like it was 2008 again, I'd be worried. There just seems to be something missing...it's like he's kind of dead inside.
A smart candidate would learn from their mistakes and try to change the narrative before the next debate. Obama should be acting like he's got tons of energy to win. That would effectively rally supporters. And talking about Big Bird, and having surrogates talk about the debate...it just makes no sense if the candidate wanted to win.
