It is easy to see from that that Obama's numbers are pure bullshit. Everyone expected the numbers to go to 8.2%, instead they went down.

But the real numbers are much worse. The published U-6 number is 14.7% (total unemployed). But that is still from the BLS. I would say the actual total unemployment is probably in the 20% range. That is what one economist has said.

128 68 see my #12
"If you double 7.8% you're about 3/4 of the way to the real UE rate."

My very accurate number is 20.2% based on a number of factors including grocery store current and future stock orders and declining brand choice offerings, durable goods, gasoline, electric and water usage per capita and housing (rent and home equity late payments and defaults)
A panic is beginning to set in as retailers are seeing the purchase power of the middle class decline every month. Metals and plastics distributors have seen orders decline over the last year to the point they are on the verge of unprofitability and do not see the demands created during the first two years of the stimulus returning. Not only that, foreign investors are quickly conglomerating the biggest distributors into MetalsUSA. The bullshit that auto sale are coming back is laughable as the majority of GMs sales were to the taxpayer in fleet sales. Now that money is expended and never going to return.

206 This ad really hit home for me. My husband hasn't had a paycheck in over two years cuz his business isn't doing more than making his employees payroll. We have been living off my income (which went down this year).

This economy has been brutal on him. He feels humiliated that he isn't making anything for the 50 hours plus he works per week. I assure him that things will get better after the election but if TFG gets reelected I don't think he can mentally keep up the charade.

I am so sorry for your troubles. I can relate. My spouse was downsized in 2009 and because of his age (5 he hasn't been able to get a job-except for one where he is making less than a 1/4 of what he made before. Sometimes we use the church food pantry The taxes are so high we are not sure we'll be able to hold on to the house. I actually volunteer at the food pantry and there are people much. much worse off than we are. One guy came in last week in tears because he had never been to a food pantry before. I felt so badly for him. We get more people every week, "Yeah; The private sector is doing fine!!"

I pray for all the people affected in this way and there are so many of them.

If you're having real problems then I would suggest trying a switch to running your computer on Ubuntu or a similar Linux distribution off of a USB flash. It won't touch anything on your hard drive (though you can access anything you want) and you can see if you like it better for what you want to work with. The whole OS is on the flash so you can take it with you and have your same system on any machine.

I switched from hard-drive based OSs to flash OS years ago and would never return. Unless there's something you definitely need Microsoft for this would be my recommendation. And if you don't like it you just pull the flash out and your old system is right there, untouched.

But that's exactly my point. If you run the OS off of a USB flash then nothing on your hard drive is touched or changed. NOTHING.

If you're interested I'd be happy to help you. The first thing you would do to find out if you "might" like it is to download, say Ubuntu (all free, and I still prefer 10.04), on a bootable disk and boot from that disk. As I said, nothing on your hard drive will be affected but you'll get to see the system and play around a little. You can't do much off of just the boot disk, but that is just to get a feel for things.

As I said, nothing on your hard drive will be touched. You will be running the Linux off of the CD or DVD boot disk. If you like it or even want to see hwo to more I'll be happy to help you make a USB flash or run a script to get persistence from the boot CD/DVD. It's all pretty simple, unless you have to go hunting around for it all on your own. Download the free boot disc and check it out. It can't hurt.

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at October 06, 2012 05:43 PM (X3lox)

232 @Anna So I can't just zorch it and put Ubuntu on it.

That's the nice part of running off a thumb drive. You didn't scorch -anything-, and yet you've at least got a clean OS going. You can 'restore' back to the state you were in by pulling the drive.

The "elago Mobile Nano II USB 2.0 microSDHC" on Amazon (and similar) are small enough that you just don't -care- that you're running off of something other than the internal drive.

There are one hell of a lot of reasons I prefer MA to CA. Politically, they're roughly equal, but in most respects it's better here. I haven't gotten to the point where being in the land of Kerry, Kennedys, Devil Patrick and Bawney Fwank bugs me deeply. It'll take years for that to happen, and I still prefer Mumbles Menino to Antonio "We clean your toilets!" Villaraigosa.

I didn't expect the gigs that died in CA would be magically come to life when I got here. Wouldn't be bad, though.

And it's not worth losing those mini-challenges to me anymore. Don't need the dependency, don't need the threat of a criminal record, and don't need to lose the freedoms dope takes away from you. Everyplace I apply searches my criminal record and can drug test me at anytime. Why would I put my great life at risk?

An Article V convention is a great idea, Vic.
But it is a scenario that requires a level of civility and knowledge, that the Left has eroded to the point of being negligible, at this point.
That was their plan.

If we do have 'another civil war'...it will not be civil.
It will be nothing like the one that happened before.
And there will be no one to come to our aid, from foreign agressors who might seize the chance to finally overtake us.

Theoretical question here. If we can modify the Constitution through a convention, could we dissolve it, disband the federal government, and reorganize wheichever states actually have enough in common to justify sharing a country?

Had a discussion with a low information friend who's convinced she's well informed, but doesn't seem to understand why I'd be offended when she keeps talking about changing the channel whenever Paul Ryan is onscreen because she hates him for his position on abortion. Which seems to her to be the only issue of the election.

She's more than worthy of ridicule.

Not to mention that she also claimed to be a PhD student all the while writing worse than than the average freshman.

367 338 ...AoS,No doubt my comment will be lost in the sauce...But, if not, has anyone wondered why Obama vehemently chastises "trickle down" while directing the Treasury to print TRILLIONS of dollars in the very same vein.Hypocrisy on a scale rarely discussed in my very humble opinion.

----------

It's because Barky always projects on others...that which he himself is doing.

When he draped himself in Lincoln during his inauguration, I knew he intended to enslave us.
And yeah...we need to come up with a new word for the atomic-level Hypocrisy that is on display...from both him and his adoring media.

963 Executive Orders (many illegal) and counting.

And Barky isn't just one man. He's a protected class, affirmative action object which means that he can do lots and lots of things and never be held to account for any of them. he has committed, literally, tens of clearly and seriously impeachable acts for which NO ONE ELSE would have been let go. But he does them over and over and over and has never even had to hear the word "impeachment" from anyone. This is sheer insanity.

The big lesson from the last 4 years is that only the dimmest among us would ever think of handing any power to someone who cannot be held responsible, let alone the most powerful office in the land and the whole of the Executive machinery. That is what affirmative action and white guilt have wrought.

You can surf the Internet with it using the Obama Search Engine, each use can be charged to your EBT and will help pay for Barack Obama to take golfing lessons.

And if you order within the next 24 hours we will throw in a MichelleFone for free! Just pay shipping and handling. This gem comes in a swirly collage of pinks, mauve, and purples. The ring-tone plays 'I am so proud of you for using my phone.' The wallpaper shows Michelle in her garden. The Obama Search Engine works on this phone as well. Thanks, but, fortunately, I'm back working full time, and loving every single minute of it. When the worst part of my job is having to be up between 4:30 and 5 AM, I consider myself damn lucky to be be where I am. Fortunately for my wife and I, she was fully employed the whole time, and I was able to make use of my underemployment by finally getting my degree 25 years after leaving college, ( not that it actually helped me getting my current employment.) It is such a fantastic feeling being productive again. I think God every night for my good fortune. Yeah, two years of underemployment killed the 401k I had accumulated, but, we were able to keep our house and pay our bills. I feel as though I lost two years of my life, and as a male reaching his late forties, I was beginning to wonder if I was getting to old for the job market.
