But over the last three years, the tide has turned. We broke the Taliban’s momentum. We’ve built strong Afghan Security Forces. We devastated al Qaeda’s leadership, taking out over 20 of their top 30 leaders. And one year ago, from a base here in Afghanistan, our troops launched the operation that killed Osama bin Laden. The goal that I set – to defeat al Qaeda, and deny it a chance to rebuild – is within reach.
This was only 5 months ago. Let's see how it looks right now. The Taliban has NOT been broken. They destroyed 6 USMC jets in their attack on Camp Bastion Which Was Our Worst Air Loss Since Vietnam. And what of those "strong" Afghan Security forces? Why they're only killing Coalition Troops instead of the Taliban. And the goal of defeating al Queda and denying it a chance to rebuild? Total Failure.
The murder of Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans in Libya on September 11 has created a growing political backlash in the United States, but there are three other reasons that this attack is significant. First, an al Qaeda unit successfully assaulted American soil for the first time since 9/11. Second, we were -- once again -- caught by surprise, and third, the attacks show that al Qaeda is not just alive and kicking (as I mentioned in my previous post), but that our current strategy for dealing with the group is failing.
What's sad is that journalists have dug deeper on stories like the Haditha Massacre, troops peeing on dead bodies, etc. than they have regarding al Queda's resurgance and murder of an American ambassador. Of course, this might have something to do with it. Intelligence Officials Angered By Obama Administration Coverup Of Intelligence.
The president said during his nomination acceptance speech that “al Qaeda is on the path to defeat,” an assertion contradicted by the group’s rise in the region. The administration, in particular, wants to keep hidden solid intelligence showing that the terrorist group behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans is now flourishing under the Muslim Brotherhood regime of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi.

A patient with gangrene, vascular disease, limb ischemia is a complex disaster of a patient. No doc cheerful takes that case "to ampute feet just for lots of money." You end up working like the dickens to try to save as much of the limb as possible, taking care of the patient's dozens of other medical problems which usually also include uncontrolled diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, hypertension and renal insufficiency at a minimum - in short what medicare pays you doesn't cover a fraction of the work you do. For our president to be such a dimwit and to insult the medical profession so blithely - for criminy's sake!
From that comment on, I knew that TFG was completely ignorant - just making sh*t up and being allowed a pass by a completely incompetent media.

Funny how the media keeps putting VA in the Dem camp, but the ads that Obama and Kaine are running are not the ads that the frontrunner runs.
Kaine is running one ad saying that he will work with whoever is President, doesn't sound like he thinks Obama will win Virginia. Now Kaine is running an ad trying to "triangulate" raising taxes. Instead of Obama's plan on 250K, he wants 500K as the point to raise taxes. Doesn't sound like someone who thinks Obama's plan is working in Virginia. This is the kind of campaigns Dems ran in Virginia in the 70's, 80's and 90's to distance themselves from the Dem national party.

I'm a lefty also, and the only weapon I ever had any problems with was my .45ACP firing very low power target rounds. I would sometimes get a hot casing down my shirt. Full power stuff was no problem at all.
I fired a Remington 1100 for years...no problem. AR15...no problem. Etc., etc., etc.

Buzz, the safe on an Ithaca IS ambidextrous-I have a dominant eye problem that made me a lefty, plus,as you said, the bottom ejection is great.
With the short barrel, the Ithaca makes a fine grouse gun if you're busting brush, and it doesn't weigh hardly anything so carrying it all day doesn't kill you.

It was a gift from my older brother when I was 16 for grouse hunting so yes I may have unrealistic love for that gun. But it also is the one that I hit the most clays with. The thing about guns is they are very personal. I know guys that swear by one that don't work well for me. Anyone that is adverse to just collecting tools cause the collecting is fun should find a range (or for shotguns a clay club) where you can shoot many and find the one that feels the best.

Had that discussion with a coworker. There may be some unrest, but it will stay in the usual locations. I don't think the rioters would fare to well, at least here in Nashville, if they moved into republican neighborhoods. Or even middle-class dem areas. Too many gun owners out there to chance it.

You know what really "disturbs" me?
Some thirty-forty years ago, the Japanese billed themselves to the world as cultured, refined people, pointing to the tea ceremony, concepts such as "wabisabi", geisha, Zen gardens, Noh, Kabuki, and all that.
Westerners used to live there to soak up some of that culture. Today? The Japanese government poured millions of tons of concrete all over the country in a vain "stimulus" after the Crash in the early 1990's, and as for "culture", it's weirdness and degradation all the way down.

20 car batteries were offered. But they needed more. Much more, in order to monitor the conditions of Reactor 3 and Reactor 2. The monitoring systems in the central control room were also down, because of lack of electricity. They needed the batteries in the order of 50, 100.
Iwaki City was 30 kilometers south of the plant, and there were big auto parts stores in the city. So, TEPCO workers decided to drive down there and buy car batteries at the store.
But 8 car batteries were all they managed to buy in Iwaki City. Asahi Shinbun article doesn't say whether it was lack of money or lack of inventory at the auto parts stores.
It was not that TEPCO's Headquarters in Tokyo had sat paralyzed. It had already ordered 1,000 batteries from Toshiba on March 12 and arranged for having them shipped to the plant immediately.
There was a problem. A government permit was needed, apparently, to transport that many batteries on the highway, and the permit was not readily coming. The vehicle loaded with 1,000 batteries couldn't leave Tokyo unless the issue of the permit was resolved somehow.
In the end, 320 of 1,000 batteries did arrive at the plant, in the evening of March 14, long after the Reactor 3 explosion. The core inside the Reactor 2 Pressure Vessel had already been exposed.

The nuke plants use 125 VDC and 250 VDC systems for the Safety relief valves and steam driven pumps. Unfortunately all the batteries and the distribution panels are put on the lowest level of the control or reactor building. (Seismic/earthquake proofing the system - these batteries weigh a lot, 100-400 lbs/cell and 120 cells for each 250 VDC battery.) The tsunami flooded the lower levels of the buildings. They needed to hook up batteries in the control panels above these flooded areas.
A set of 10 car batteries would be able to operate the SRVs for about a half a day to a day, maybe. A set of 20 would run the steam driven pumps for about a half a day. maybe. But that would have been an extra half a day. By then, they should be able to jury rig the next things, like the big generators. (one was within a half hour of powering up, when the first unit blew up (U2?) and severed the cables from it to one of the units (U1?).
IMO A big problem was they were running the show from Tokoyo and TEPCO and the Government were not responding quickly.

Of course, Israel bears some responsibility, too, for still failing to understand arabs and arab culture. Land won in war with arabs can NEVER be given back to them. Never, ever, ever. The only way to get arabs to stop attacking is to take shit from them and let them know that with each new attack they'll lose more shit. Land is a big thing and keeping that is of utmost importance, even if the winner doesn't want to keep it. It must be kept to establish the victory to the arabs and to thwart future plans they might have for another attack. Giving it back only insures future attacks.
Still, it's pathetically funny how Egypt can consider the near total loss of their entire 3rd army (and the Suez Canal ... once again) as a victory. They are truly out of their minds and Westerners need to recognize this sad fact.

I am by NO means an expert on war or diplomacy, but it is clear to me that we manage to completely fuck up the diplomacy. We lose peace after winning a war because we do not understand our enemies. For examples, look at Vietnam, Iraq 1, and Iraq 2. We stupidly think that these people are like us, and just want peace and prosperity.

The Bush tax cuts increased government receipts by leaps and bounds. Congress just increased their spending to cover it all and then some.
Tax cuts and supply side theory didn't cause the crash. Barky and his idiot supporters did with their government perversion of debt, intentionally forcing the mispricing of debt in order to subsidize sub-sub-prime loans (as no one ever got prime loans - the prime rate was the rate of loans for AAA businesses) and hide the cost of it. This ended up having the debt mispricing arbed throughout the debt market (the largest and most important market there is) and that eventually came crashing down, taking everything else with it.
I could go on and on and on but that's enough. And I didn't even address another bunch of idiocies from the first minute. I dread the thought of having to listen to the rest of it. It's plain stupid and a pack of lies.

Dunno. He needs to do some history, get some perspective and thinking beyond his own existence. You can't punish "the rich" and do sociaiism for very long. Sure, you can land some govt type job, or something and make like a bandit... for awhile. But, it's going to crash. It always does. Do you know any real commies? They're great. Best way to figure out what dems and unions and whatnot are all about, is to hang with them until their guard drops and they open up. It's a hell of an eye opener. Painful, but quick.
