NYT: Okay, We'll Call It a Draw

No, really.

Wary of split screens on CNN and other networks, Mr. Romney managed, despite a dry throat and some rapid blinking, to keep a choirboy smile pasted on his face while Mr. Obama spoke; Mr. Obama was quicker to drop his bonhomie and adopt the look of a long-suffering headmaster enduring the excuses of a bright student he is going to expel.

...

If anything, these confrontations look more like a dispute in couples therapy: neither partner can really win, but either one could get rattled and blurt out something unforgivable.

George Stephanopolous declared the Democrat the winner in eight of the nine debates he "analyzed" as a "journalist."

Now, Newsbusters credits him with breaking this streak.

No, Newsbusters. You are too charitable. He in fact refuses to say Romney won, and changes the question from "Who won?" to "Did Romney do enough to seriously change the race?" -- a question he seems to think is answered in the negative.

So, yes, he understands Romney won, but he's not saying so. He's just saying Romney didn't do enough to really help himself.

Oh, and the "talk back" line on news radio here on the morning commute was hilarious. They lead with the results of an overnight poll showing a 2:1 margin that people thought Romney won, and then they "talked back" to only one person who thought Romney won. The rest were in full Barky swoon.

He was getting snaked yesterday.

99 I think the enormity of last night has yet to be realized.

With one fell-swoop, all of the false memes created by Team Obama crumbled.

People saw Mr. Romney for who he really is; a compassionate, articulate, smart and very capable person.

Folks also know intuitively what has happened in the last four years- they are living it. And in defense what did the President offer? More rhetoric about the rich, very little defense of obviously failed policies and more blame for problems he is incapable of solving.

The excuses have worn thin. People don't believe our problems are due to the "rich", "Republicans" who only control one branch of government or any other third party. It is the job of the President to get the job done- irrespective. Mr Obama told us so four years ago. He told us he could get it done and knew the challenge ahead.

Yet now he needs "more time"? Hardly. The countdown clock started ticking last night.

100 98 - Thanks. I thought something like that was going on. Hope he didn't bust a gut laughing at Barry last night

101 Funny. The MSM media loves polls but they are looking at a CNN poll saying this was an epic, historic blowout while at the same time declaring this surely will not move the polls.

TWO MEDIA LINES OF ATTACK:

1) The debate was a bore. Have already seen this in a number of articles.
2) Everything Romney said was a LIE - expect the MSM "fact-checkers" to back them up.

Posted by: Bill Mitchell at October 04, 2012 08:43 AM (hlUJY)

102 I find it depressing that the MSM is so corrupt and there is nothing we can do to change it. They don't care whether they make money or not, so lack of viewers/readers means nothing to them.

103 G Stephanpolis couldn't wear his kneepads after last night but he still couldn't bring himself to state the obvious.

104 @84
I've noticed EVERY time NYT puts a mind-bogglingly inane article up on
its website, there is NEVER a 'Comments' section for responses. (This
article was no exception).

'The most intelligent President
EVAH'???......What NYT refuses to come to grips with is the demonstrated
fact this President is ....... Just . Plain . Stupid.

Lol, yes I noticed that too. No comments. Too funny.

105 Isn'tit notablethat Denver, the site of the Greek-columned convention speech, is where the gods frowned upon Obama?

106 c'mon Virginia! wake up smell the coffee! Barky has no respect for our military or our coal producing area or our Bible belt area.

Posted by: kelley in virginia at October 04, 2012 08:46 AM (HNwOT)

107 You know what last night did?

All the voters who wanted to believe Barky.. who have been self-delusional for months, wanting to believe him but who have felt in their hearts that things were not really as TFG has been saying it is.. or will be. All those people saw the Obama illusion fade away in a puff of smoke. (as Verbal Kint might say - "And like that, poof. He's gone.”)

108 2) Everything Romney said was a LIE -
___

yeah that's what Rendell was doing. Coming up with dubious factoids to counter Mitt's points.

One thing about Rendell, he always states his admiration for Romney, due to his association with him when they were both governors. The host always ribs Rendell: "Come on admit it, you're going to vote for Mitt, aren't you!"

The Weather Channel was on this morning, talking about what the difference is between the two candidates with respect to the weather.

I kid you not.

How the election affects the weather.

111 You have to wonder what Barky's debate prep was like. He came ready to debate the strawman (as Ace pointed out), without a backup plan.

They actually believe their own spin.

114 I saw the debate. I wanted Romney to finish him and he didn't despite so many opportunities. He agreed with parts of Obama's plans, he didn't call O's BS on revealing plans details (he could have said 'maybe we have to vote on the plan in order to know what's in it!!") and he didn't once use the phrases "Class warfare" "Class envy" or 'punishing success." Having said that, though, I applaud Romney not giving him a mulligan (most of the time), and ignoring the Praetorian Guard moderator/s and not letting a single misrepresentation stand. That, and the 90 billion dollars picking losers - what a line!!! - when it could have funded teachers. Next time, though, they are going to juice the moderators to let O get away with BS and pack the town hall with plants. I sniff trouble.

115 Icedog @ 88: "Doesn't the NYT "moderate" (aka censor) all their comments anyway?"

I wouldn't know; I've never had any of my comments posted to NYT ;-)

117 In just about any other industry, if Conservative/Republican was changed to "black" and "Liberal broadcaster" equaled "white" (oh, it does), then the courts would have no issue saying academia and the MSM engaged in systematic discrimination, and that a disproportionate impact at work was sufficient proof.
