Libyan President Tells a Baffled, Befuddled, and In All Ways Bewildered Ann Curry That The YouTube Clip Had Nothing to Do With The Terrorist Attack

You know, one thing I give the Libyans, and it's a pretty big thing: Since day one, they have been straight with us about this, while our own President, Secretary of State, and media have lied to us.

The whole clip is worth watching -- he says it's definitely a terrorist attack, given the fact that indirect-fire mortars (five of them) were used to attack the safe-house; that's not something that people "spontaneously" break out -- but Ann Curry's baffletude reaches a climax from 2:08 to 2:31.

Here's a question I don't know the answer to: It would be the easiest thing in the world for the Libyan President to just agree with whatever Obama says. So why isn't he?

Think about all the reasons the Libyans have to go along with Obama's lie. Money. Shifting blame away. Covering up their own terrorist problems. General diplomatic bullshit.

But they just won't. They have said from day one "This is terrorism and it's probably some Al Qaeda aligned group, or some Qaddaffi holdouts, or both."

13 As to why the Libyan President doesn't just straight-up agree with Obama tells me that he wants to be viewedon the OPPOSITE side from the terrorists. He doesn't want America (weak as we are these days) to go bombing his new country because idiots decided to murder some American diplomats. Is he pro-West? Of course not. But his country is struggling to come back from deposing Gaddaffi and is still fighting its own internal battles. It doesn't need to start fighting with America, too.

Libya was the one area where Arab spring resulted in a secular government winning the election. I don't think the fact that this is where Al Qaeda decided to attack us is incidental. They want us pissed at Libya, because they want us to stop supporting the government, because that way the Islamists can take it over.

If the President goes along with it just being people upset by the video, it's easier in the U.S. to blame that on all Libyans.

If he doesn't, then he points out the fact the people who did this are the same people who oppose him.

97 > So why isn't he [backing Obama]?

Because 1) what he's saying is probably true; 2) if it is true, the people who did it are not friends to his regime; 3) by saying "al Qaeda elements hiding in Libya" then he can say it's not Libya's fault.

By the way, if Bush was President, I think the administration story would align with Libya's. True, we'd get a black eye for poor security and response, but we would also be able to say, "Hey, it's not the new government we put in power." Moreover, the media would have long ago ditched the movie version as laughable disinformation.

In contrast, Obama's narrative is that when these nuts act up it *has* to be because of something we've done. We can't admit that playing nice for three years hasn't made them reciprocate.

(Playing nice except for Obama's drone fetish and boasting about how President Honey Boo-boo tore Bin Laden's heart out and ate it before Binny's body hit the ground.)

113 You know, one thing I give the Libyans, and it's a pretty big thing: Since day one, they have been straight with us about this, while our own President, Secretary of State, and media have lied to us.

That's only because the Libyan president didn't understand how much of a serious enemy of America Barky is. If he had known then he would have been in with the Indonesian Dog-Eater and his lies from the very beginning.

Wait until Israel strikes Iran and we get to see the lies that Barky makes up about that, right before he takes the US to war with Israel on the French/Eurotrash say-so. I'm not joking. Barky is dying to throw a blockade on Israel to make them weak enough for the arabs to destroy and most of the Eurotrash are dying to finish the job of WWII, too.

I doubt the Libyans know jack about American politics and probably think that Barky will stay Emperor forever. The Libyan president likely didn't know that Barky is as shameless as any arab, hated America just as much, and would make up such a ridiculous lie to tell America (as it was clear to everyone that Barky and his junta were full of shit from the beginning). The Libyan president probably thought that he was making the same argument Barky was going to make and got himself locked into that story. Now, however, he realizes that barky is truly an enemy of America, which will give him much more leeway in the future.

September 24, 2012|Peter Graff and Ghaith Shennib | Reuters

BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) - Libya's government, seeking to assert its authority over private militias following the killing of U.S. diplomats in Benghazi, placed two powerful freelance units in the city under the command of full-time army officers on Monday.

Commanders of two units which have, with official sanction, been providing security since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi were ordered removed and the men of the February 17 Brigade and Rafallah al-Sahati militia put under army orders. A third unit, Libya's Shield, would also change leadership, an official said.

212 Of al-Qaeda, Obama's strategic ally in the deliverance of Libya from Gaddafi, “They chose this date, 11th of September to carry a certain message.” -- Magarief

And that Yankee Go Home "certain message" was a huge F-U! to Obama and to the US intelligence and military/security forces. Regardless of years spending tax funds and spilling blood, Americans won't be any more secure in Libya than those are who've been ordered by America's CinC to nation-build Iraq, to remain in Afghanistan, or get stationed in any Muslim nation.

Obama's "private army, just as well trained and supplied as the US Military" ... The very people that our government agents spent our taxes to train and supply for the "Arab Spring" did this on 9-11 not simply "because they could" but "to carry a certain message."

Of course Magarief is going to quickly denounce the terrorism; his ass is on the US line. But at the same time, there's no way he can maintain ANY semblance of stability in Libya where armaments abound in the hands of highly trained terrorists, no thanks to our US foreign aid and foreign policy, if Magarief absolutely crosses swords his first year to play the brutal dictator against Libyans, be they terrorists or not. That would prove that Libya is conquered by Westerners, which would mean his own assassination by Libyans.

So this current US puppet Libyan President is walking the tight rope razor's edge. While reprimanding the al Qaeda forces/plot, by Magarief exposing Obama to be the liar who flaunts the most STOOPID lies to cover his ass, Magarief diplomatically achieves the embarrassment of Obama, the same target meant to be shamed by the scheduled uprising and murders of Obama's US Ambassador with his top Libyan intelligence and security officials.

One thing is obvious about Magarief, he certainly knows diplomacy. You don't live long there without having proven your ability to survive.

Think back to the footage from the uprising. The Ghaddaffi loyalists were pwning the rebels left and right in any stand up fights. They got beat back when US air power found them and dropped some JDAMs or Hellfires. My guess is that the Libyan people's attitude about these militias and AQ groups are driving the Libyan President's actions. Haven't we heard that the militias are being protested? It's about power, in this aspect.

That and money. If this President is not in control, to whom is the US going to give aid? It's in his financial interest to go with the rogue terrorist group angle over a generally unruly society, still in civil strife, without a clear leader.

That, and the ME culture has never been one to be known as a paragon of honesty. Islam explicitly encourages lying to the infidel.

However, aside from his comments, it appears that this is a terrorist attack, even if you want to call it a spontaneous protest gotten out of hand. And the lie that it was not planned, I think, has been thoroughly debunked at this point.

The Libyans do have a motive to lie. If it was terrorism it was something that happened to them as opposed to something that they did.

One of the most offensive theories of Holocaust denial is that it wasn't Hitler who did it but rather it was Goering. (Goering is the highest official whose signature is clearly on a Holocaust document.) If Goering did it without Hitler's knowledge or approval then it was a crime against Nazism rather than a crime of the Nazis.

The Libyan guy is obviously distancing himself from AQ here, blaming the attack on them says, hey, its not Libya the country that is the problem, but we have these bad guys here and they did it. I inherited this problem from Gaddafi.

He might be for real on that - because a potential answer to that is well if you can't keep your internal security in order enough to keep AQ from killing Americans, maybe we need to step up our military presence there. Which could work out for him - a la Karzai - or could work against him.

But common sense says that this was a terrorist attack. You are right, mortars don't spontaneously appear - especially already sighted in. So common sense agrees with this guy. Why does Obama persist in the lie?

I can't wait until they whack the Islamists and become safe for tourism.

286 Someone's probably already said it, but I have to think that Libya really wants these thugs run out of the country and is hoping the US will be their muscles. Weren't they protesting the other day at the office of the Muslim Brotherhood in Benghazi? If my theory is true, then I have to say I have some hope for this sliver of the world.

Posted by: biancaneve at September 26, 2012 02:53 PM (6bYlh)

289 If it was just a protest, how come there weren't any protestors there when the guys with the RPG's and mortars showed up? Lucky thing for them that the guys with the mortars happened to know where the safe house was and that the random guys who found the mortars laying around were able to hit the target so accurately.

290 Can you imagine obama in any environment in which he is not protected/enabled by his presidential entourage? He would be helpless. Now think the same of Romney, Rick Perry or W. I would call him a pussy but that is an unsult to women.

Posted by: Honey Badger at September 26, 2012 03:00 PM (GvYeG)

291 He might be for real on that - because a potential answer to that is well if you can't keep your internal security in order enough to keep AQ from killing Americans, maybe we need to step up our military presence there. Which could work out for him - a la Karzai - or could work against him.
HELL NO.

You want to 'up the military presence' at the embassy? Sure. "There"? Hell no.

"Or that its not in the interest of many countries out there to follow America's internal politics."

I've lived abroad, and even the man in the street follows America's internal politics surprisingly closely, certainly more closely than Americans follow their own (and, of course, cubic light years more than Americans follow the internal politics of other countries).

297 I think this guy and Libya have a vested interest in a Romney win.
--
Obama enabled the usurpation of all Libya's accumulated Central Bank gold and wealth. It isn't as if Romney would have or will stand in the way of those globalist finance corporatist monopolists. But Obama thought he could get away with "reforming" Libya at Libya's expense, having destroyed the entirely self sufficient infrastructure that had been coordinated via Gaddafi who refused our military stationed access to Libya's ports. There isn't a single sect or tribe in Libya that wants to be dominated by foreigners, ESPECIALLY Westerners, Americans in particular.

As stated, the current Libyan President is a survivor and well skilled diplomat. He just proved nuance and artistry (qualities that Obama presumed incorrectly to display) having both denounced terrorism and Obama's foolish lie while simultaneously announcing the strongest of alliance between Libya and the USA. So much for Obama being "articulate".

The only way that Libya would "want" Romney to beat Obama would be if Libya wants Netanyahu's zionist version of Israel to dominate the region. That ain't the case in any Muslim nation. Rather, they probably look at Obama as the "devil they know" -- same rationale that should have prevailed to prevent US engagements via Obama that promoted the violent Arab Spring upheaval of the Middle East. Now we have the genocide of the region's minority populations resulting from our national policy, "excused with the best of intentions" in the mob sense of spreading democracy.

Posters neglect to consider that before the destruction of Gaddafi's Libya, every Libyan -- by over 50 years of the national socialist policy that spent oil profits on building and maintaining civilized and modern infrastructure -- had provided free education including universities, jobs, public housing and food, free medical attention at free hospitals. It was working for them. And Gaddafi had sponsored Obama's 2008 foreign funding from the Middle East as a bundler. Obama should not have had Hillary mock Libya: "We came, we saw, we killed, bwahahahaha!" What Obama proves is that Obama is the most untrustworthy of politicians. And the intelligent, sophisticated professionals in Libya know better now than to expect anything more than a knife in the back from Obama, to not play the dupe for Obama, especially when Obama's lie has absolutely no credibility except to idiots.

But to say that Libyans would expect 'better' from Romney has no grounds. Romney, as Netanyahu's puppet, is not going to be popular with Muslims.

300 If NBC wants to take the vaguely insulting step of adding subtitles to video of a foreigner speaking English, they should at least make sure their subtitler speaks the language as well as the foreigner does.

At 1:27 in the clip, the Libyan president says he's not yet ready to divulge the details of their investigation - "minute details". NBC helpfully adds the subtitle "my new details".

Posted by: bgates at September 26, 2012 03:21 PM (bVnuh)

301 Obama's Hollywood audacity of hope wished with all its heart that they could blame an act of terrorism on a movie that no one ever heard of or saw until they promoted it.

Convoluted interest. Precedence for the Batman movie screening murdered victims to sue the Hollywood producers.

Talk about deep pockets.

They're. All. The. Same. Mob.

Call them rebels. Call them terrorists. Whatever. Same mob, different target.

312 Libya guy is up against the wall. He knows Obama is a weak horse and probably has refused to support him any more. AQ is nipping at his heels. He needs international support.

He is applying pressure against the guy who left him out to dry, sort of like what Bams did to his party in 2010.

It's survival of the fittest.

317 For those wondering why the attack needs to be "spontaneous" and/or blamed on the stupid little YouTube 'movie', it's quite simple. If it is a spontaneous protest that got out of hand then King Putt couldn't have foreseen it and done something - no one could (yeah. sure. ha ha ha. right). If on the other hand there were obvious omens and signs like the date, and direct warnings from local leaders, then Sir Golfsalot is a SCOAMF.
Of course we all know the correct answer and have done for nearly four years.

Obligatory: I'm positive Libya's stance on Israel hasn't change, but that subject is irrelevant to the point. Libya is rejecting terrorism. If only Obama would do the same.
