| The Vetting: Washington Examiner Publishes 10-Part Backgrounder On "The Obama You Don't Know"Big story, which probably would have been better served being rolled out one chapter per day. Chapter Two is good. As with the whole report, it rebuts Obama's media-crafted false biography with actual facts.Time magazine gushed in 2008 about Barack Obama's 12-year tenure as a law lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School, saying, "Within a few years, he had become a rock-star professor with hordes of devoted students." That may have been true during his first two years, when he ranked first among the law school's 40 instructors, with students giving him a rating of 9.7 out of a possible 10. But law student evaluations made available to The Washington Examiner by the university showed that his popularity then fell steadily. In 1999, only 23 percent of the students said they would repeat Obama's racism class. He was the third-lowest-ranked lecturer at the law school that year. And in 2003, only a third of the student evaluators recommended his classes. His classes were small. A spring 1994 class attracted 14 out of a student body of 600; a spring 1996 class drew 13. In 1997, he had the largest class of his tenure with 49 students. But by then, his student rating had fallen to 7.75. Twenty-two of 40 faculty members ranked higher than Obama. It is often claimed that Obama was a "Constitutional law professor." Well... Obama has often cited his days at the law school as an important part of his preparation for the presidency. At a March 30, 2007, fundraiser, for example, he said, "I was a constitutional law professor, which means, unlike the current president, I actually respect the Constitution." From 1992 until 2004, Obama taught three courses: "Current Issues in Racism and the Law," "Voting Rights and the Democratic Process," and "Equal Protection and Substantive Due Process."Three areas of the law that do involve the Constitution. It should also be noted all three are areas where leftwingers try to make the most impact on America. Obama, of course, wrote no scholarly articles while attached to the University (unlike any serious legal thinker). And he was generally... let us say the most Reaganesque part of him was his apparent agreement with Reagan's line, "Hard work never killed anyone, but why take chances?" ... Senior lecturers were, however, still expected to participate in university activities. University of Chicago Law School Senior Lecturer Richard Epstein told The Washington Examiner that Obama did not do so. Obama, Epstein said, "did the minimal amount of work to get through. No one remembers him. He was not a participant in luncheons or workshops. He was here and gone." Robert Alt, a former Obama student, echoes Epstein, telling the Examiner that "I think it's fair to say he wasn't engaged in the intellectual life of Chicago outside of the classroom." ... The pattern of minimal performance at the Chicago campus was not an exception to the rule for Obama. In the state Senate during the same years he was lecturing, Obama voted "present" nearly 130 times, the most of any legislator in the chamber. The below FoxNews segment digests the report: Comments1

The Onion: Media Having Trouble Finding Right Angle On Obama's Double-Homicide http://tinyurl.com/6a99xht Posted by: AmishDude at September 20, 2012 12:21 PM ------------------------ Holy crap. That's funny. Two pull quotes: "Is this an upbeat human-interest story about a 'day in the life' of a bloodthirsty president who likes to kill people? Or is it more of an examination of how Obama's unusual upbringing in Hawaii helped to shape the way he would one day viciously butcher two helpless citizens in their own home?" "Or maybe the story is just that murder is cool now," Kaplan continued. "I don't know. There are a million different angles on this one." and... "President Obama's letter presents us with a classic journalistic quandary," executive editor Bill Keller said. "If we print it, then we're giving him control over the kinds of stories we choose to run. It would be an acknowledgment that we somehow give the nation's commander in chief special treatment." Added Keller, "And that's just not how the press in this country works." Posted by: Time Travelling Flaneur at September 20, 2012 12:53 PM (ay6+/) 3

I'm not sure any of this really matters at this point, and they may make Romney look desperate. We (we being conservatives who would like to see Obama defeated), would probably be better served focusing on the facts on the ground as they are now. There are plenty of bad ones to make the case against Obama.
Who really cares about Obama's tenure as a professor. Unless there is some old tape out there of Obama saying directly that "I am a socialist and when I am President I will try to make this country more socialist," I think these small-ball arguments are not effective. They would have been more effective in 2008. But they didn't really matter then because the facts on the ground for McCain were so bad. I don't think this coming from Romney's camp, but any attack from conservative media will be associated with him. I don't see this moving any votes toward Romney, and really see this as allowing Carney to say - Is this all they got, they must be desperate. The talking points should be on the continued lousy state of the economy, the middle east going up in flames, and the fact that the Dems want us to pay for their abortions. This other stuff is trivial. It really is. Posted by: SH at September 20, 2012 12:57 PM (gmeXX) 12

Romney intensifies campaign schedule with Ohio bus tour
By Justin Sink - 09/20/12 11:10 AM ET Mitt Romney is launching a bus tour next week with running mate Paul Ryan in the crucial state of Ohio, after remaining mostly off the campaign trail this week to furiously fundraise for his presidential bid. According to the Romney campaign, Romney and Ryan will participate in a three-day “Romney Plan for a Stronger Middle Class” swing through the Buckeye State; [...] The two candidates won't actually campaign together. Ryan will attend a Monday event in Lima and a Tuesday event in Cincinnati. Romney, meanwhile, will appear in Dayton on Tuesday before a packed Wednesday that will see the nominee visit Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo. In addition to his swing through Ohio, Romney is expected to visit Denver, Colo., on Sunday and Monday[...] __________________ The Hill Posted by: tasker at September 20, 2012 01:04 PM (r2PLg) 26

I was saying it back then, the "courses" the JEF taught were 2nd and 3rd year courses, which no good lawyers need--you learn just about everything you need to know to pass the bar in the first year. Everything else, you learn in practice.
You get the real constitutional law in the first year. The courses he taught were 1) taken by students who knew they were going into public life, advocacy, etc., or 2) students looking for an easy A. That his rankings fell tells you he stunk as a teacher. I suspect that even those in the first category walked out saying, "where's the law? All he did was talk about political shit, re-hash my undergrad polysci course." Oooh, also: Dirty little secret, every law school graduate is qualified to teach law school. Yup. That's how low the standards are. Most law professor's careers are like this: Law school ---->clerkship----->law school professor. Posted by: RoyalOil at September 20, 2012 01:04 PM (imtbm) 29

@18 ATC - In the context of this election, it is trivial. He was elected President, he has been President, voters just aren't going to care about his past profession as a college professor. What matters are what he has done in the past 4 years and where things stand now. And they are bad. If we (again, we being conservatives) aren't focused on that, how do you expect to get someone to vote against Obama because they are now realizing he was not a good constitutional law professor. This is small-ball. It is tough to vet an incumbent President. Much easier to remind them how bad the economy is, how he lost Egypt, how the middle east is spiriling out of control. Let's keep our focus on the big issues. We won't win any voters with this stuff.

It doesn't matter what they say, they seem to be immune to even understanding anything but what they "know in their hearts", cause they seem to be able to wholly ignore any negatives.
With foreign policy they really are too smart for their own good. They really do think that the pres has some kind of super sekret special foreign policy thingy going on and "they don't want to do or say anything to ruin it...." No matter what comes out, they say, "well we don't know what is REALLY going on, we have to trust the president, cause you know he is doing the right thing" and when you confront them with the bunch of "little white lies" and the 4 deaths they say "we're sorry about that but you''ll see, he knows what he's doing and it's for the best of the country". Even to be speaking about these sorts of tertiary items monumentally is naive and off base. It's about the dummy, economy, not about what happened or didn't happen 20 years ago in law school. It's about winning this election, not aboutproving a point.

Because there's nothing trendy and cool about publishing about how the role of the courts should be limited. Since it's publish or perish, the incentives are to find novel explanations of what the Constitution means rather than limiting one's study to the text itself. Adjunct Lecturer generally means part-time, non-tenure track. This is one of the dirty little secrets of the academic world, much of the heavy lifting in teaching undergrad classes is done either by TAs working on their dissertation or by adjunct faculty who are getting paid a grand, maybe two, for teaching that semester. I don't think the Romney campaign should waste time with anypre-2009 stuff. But the rest of us? Have at it. The best hope is that maybe one tidbit, one glaringrevelation is so sensitive that it forces the Obama camp to respond. I just finished reworking my Senate model, and went out to all the recent polling to get a sense of the races. Bottom line, a few races are getting harder for us, but the odds of taking the Senate are still 89% for a tie, and 76% for 51 seats. I'm now tracking 16 races in the model. Here is where things stand (screw you, Nate Silver).
Nebraska 100% - Mortal lock for GOP - Ben Nelson's seat Indiana 75% - Mourdock leads slightly, but state is used to voting GOP and Lugar lost big. Dem voted for Obamacare Nevada 70% - Heller leads all polls, Dem has scandal problems, but demographics trending Dem Wisconsin 50% - This one is trending away from Thompson, likely 50/50 right now Montana 75% - Unseating incumbent, but state has voted statewide for GOP candidate, he leads in polls Massachusetts 60% - Close, Brown has lead in polls, but do they vote for the person or Senate control? North Dakota 80% - Berg is well ahead outside the MOE Virginia 50% - Kaine polling advantage is skewed by over samples, toss up Florida 35% - Nelson clearly ahead but has favorability problems Ohio 35% - Brown ahead in polls, but skewed, GOP has funding advantage New Mexico 35% - Dem ahead in polls Missouri 35% - It's Akin, but the polling looks like FL, OH, and NM Michigan 20% - This one is slipping away Maine 10% - The Ind will win this, but he could caucus with GOP Hawaii 10% - Dem well ahead in most polls Connecticut 50% - Dem +4 in most recent poll, but at 37%. Other polls give GOP slight edge Posted by: Dave in Fla at September 20, 2012 01:29 PM (7aMzP) 139

Some people think Romney can't walk and chew gum at the same time, or that their fellow citizens can't absorb more than one message at a time.
Yes, stories in the media that further the foundational message to swing voters that, yes you were misled about this man, Obama, do in fact help Romney later make the case for switching to him. How many times have Ace and others said that these voters will never respond to a message of you were stupid, dumbass? They need permission to let him go. Stories that present credible evidence of the electorate being misled enable those voters to excuse their vote to being lied to, not being wrong. In this same way, the truth about Libya coming ut this week adds to that foundational narrative. The ads being run in Milwaukee targeting the black community regarding the economic facts in their neighborhoods under Obama also advance that narrative of being sold a bill of goods. In that case, nobody expects blacks to vote FOR Romney, just to leave the line blank or not vote at all. This is a multi-pronged attack. No one message will win the election. Gallup's RV 47-47 poll today and Rasmussen's 47-45 LV poll (also today) tell us that Romney is in a great position with 7 weeks to go. Obama is a known quantity. The foundational narrative of being misled is taking hold. Seeing Romney looking credible and on an equal presidential footing in the debates will seal the deal. And the Romney warchest will drop the daisy cutter on the battlefield in the last month. People just need a nudge to do what in their hearts they want to do, and the preference cascade rolls. Be not afraid. Posted by: trumpetdaddy at September 20, 2012 01:29 PM (dcoFe) 141

The Quote of the Decade:
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better." ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006 Posted by: BuckOfama at September 20, 2012 01:31 PM (QbjWk) 146

20Lawrence Tribe said Obama was his most brilliant student. Said just before the 2008 election. At the time Obama actually was a student, zip. So an election-induced change of heart. If Tribe actually had thought that back in the day, he could've swung Obama a prestigious clerkship (a ringing endorsement like that from HLS would make doors fly open: Federal appellate court, maybe even the Supremes) or a top-drawer law firm. Instead he ended up working traffic court in Chicago (I kid, but there's a reason why his billing records are more closely held than A-bomb secrets), his only known case being involved in shaking down Citibank to get loans for the brothers, where his major contribution was being sent out for danishes for the litigators. None of it mattered; nobody was alarmed. We here on the right who did our homework shrieked, shouted and pounded all these facts to those less aware. Shoulders were shrugged. It may sway some undecideds. I just don't see it. The lines are drawn on both sides, so this is just another affirmation of what we already know. Maybe I'm wrong and this will open some eyes.

We, as a nation, seem to have lost the idea that public servants are supposed to be held to a much higher standard than the average citizen. We need to relearn that fast. Posted by: Invictus at September 20, 2012 01:40 PM (OQpzc) 168

No. At least the colonel knows how to make things fry. A much needed qualification for SecDef. Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) Channelling Breitbart at September 20, 2012 01:40 PM (8y9MW) 170

Tofer - I'll keep an eye on it. It's a pain in the ass to include additional states in the model, so if that one starts dipping into the D+7 range (like NM, FL, MO), I'll start covering it. Alternatively, I might drop HI out and replace it with NJ.

@ 170. No, not so much. Students usually grade down teachers who waste their time. Or who act the arrogant ass in class. Or who can't show up on time. Or who don't teach anything useful to their degree or future careers.
Oh, wait, those are all pretty much the same thing. Posted by: trumpetdaddy at September 20, 2012 01:43 PM (dcoFe) 173
I have not read it yet, but i put a shortcut to it on my desk. Once am sure my stomach is empty and all fragile items are safely secured, i will read it.
Even reading the crap about this fucking guy makes me mad and nauseated. This train wreck of incompetence just keeps getting worse. I agree they should have rolled this out in phases, even 3 parts if not one chapter each day. However, before i read it, I will say with 147% certainty that Barrack Cocksucking Motherfucker Obama is a Stuttering Clusterfuck of a Miserable Failure. I look forward to the article enlightening me and changing my mind...maybe he really isn't a jug-eared fuck......but my friend Mr Teleprompter has a different opinion: http://tinyurl.com/d5nmdaf Posted by: jeremiah Gosh Darn Amerikkka wright at September 20, 2012 01:43 PM (ovpNn) 174

Posted by: JennyLovesBrandon at September 20, 2012 01:41 PM (JWlbm) As someone who teaches at the university level and gives out a small percentage of A's in the courses that I teach (5%), I can state that this general claim is false. If you are FAIR and CLEAR with your grading criteria, the vast majority of students will respect you and accept their grades without any qualms. Dave - thanks, I have not looked at the internals of the NJ polling, but Menendez has some skeletons in his closet, and if he is only polling in the low to mid 40's, there may be an opening.

Late to the thread, so probably people won't see this. I will try an post it in another appropriate thread.
There is one fact in that Examiner article that is very damaging, and wasn't known before. In all of his life, Barack Obama never once lived in a black community. Even when he was a community organizer, he refused to live in the black community and instead rented an apartment 90 minutes away. Why did he stay away from the black neighborhoods (except for campaigning)? This is a good question, because I think he hates the black community as much as he hates the rest of us, and sees them only as easily hoodwinked suckers that he can manipulate for votes. I can understand a sitting politician not writing legal articles because anything more detailed than an op ed can come back to bite you. Not to participate in the informal discussions is entirely different. It's been said that Obama has a hands off management style but this information suggests it more than that. He's either devoid of curiosity and entirely disengaged from what's going on around him unless they are affirmations of what he already believes.

Three areas of the law that do involve the Constitution. It should also be noted all three are areas where leftwingers try to make the most impact on America.
Three areas where the left tries to fundamentally deform America and turn the Constitution inside-out. Three areas where leftists intentionally pervert the Constitution just like mo perverted the Old and New Testaments and three areas where leftists call the original and sensible interpretations of the Constitution "lies" (just as mo called Jews and Christians "liars") to explain the difference between the actual meanings and the twisted, perverted, anti-American leftist versions. Barky doesn't know jack-shit about the Constitution. Frankly, he's too stupid to understand much of anything. But he's indoctrinated and steeped in leftist rote arguments - the Dog-Eater can repeat these arguments by heart ... as he learnd them phonetically - and he knows that they are anti-American so that's the way he goes. Brky was a "Constitutional scholar" and "taught Constitutional law" like a pickpocket is a lecturer on the Constitutional issue of "takings". Only Barky is a failed pickpocket who always gets caught. Lucky for him the corrupt cops are on his side and always "lose the paperwork" or manage to convince the pwople pickpocketed that they weren't or that it was some nice old white lady who stole from them instead of the upstanding black kid with their stuff in his hands. 118 #2: Conning 52% of Americans into voting for him for President despite a
lack of any significant accomplishment in his life, coasting through his teaching job, manhandling the election process, coasting through the Illinois State Senate, doing nothing in the US Senate, serving as arm candy at a law firm, and getting by through life doing the minimum, to wind up rising to where he is today? Gotta admit, that kinda IS f'ing brilliant. * * It would only work in a seriously deranged society. You know, one that worships political correctness and Affirmative Action. Of course he, or his handlers and directors, knew that. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 20, 2012 02:53 PM (exvgC) 195

"Equal Protection and Substantive Due Process." was also called Con Law III at U of C when I was there (while he taught there) at the turn of the century. I took Con Law I and IV but refused to take that one b/c it was at 8:30 in the morning (hey, I was younger at the time) and Equal Protection's pretty much a history class - nothing's changed much in the past decades IMO. I called it "that 14th Amendment class."
So, yeah, he was a Con Law lecturer. He seemed smarmy to me back then when he was a nobody state senator for Hyde Park. Never changed my opinion of him. Posted by: Bors11 at September 20, 2012 06:27 PM (fU09o) 199
