Happy Thursday.

Nate Silver says the chance of a GOP takeover of the Senate is down to 21 percent. Scott Brown and Fauxcahontas debate tonight.

Two-thirds of new homes have front or back porches. That's up from 42 percent in 1992.

The New York Post wins the headline contest: "Beyoncé & Jay-Z host NY Bam ba$h." Neither the campaign, nor the White House will release photos of Obama at the event, since that would ruin his "plain old folks" bullshit image.

And finally, there is a new trailer out for the first Hobbit movie.

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, September 20, 2012. On this day in 2000 the Whitewater Independent Counsel announced the end of the Whitewater investigation. He said there was insufficient evidence to charge Bill and Hillary. I find it less that compelling that everyone around this deal was convicted except Bill and Hillary. Yes, they were guilty as sin.

28 Erdogan: Jewish tycoon mediated between Israel, Turkey
Turkish PM tells Hurriyet newspaper Israel sent Jewish businessman, likely Ronald Lauder, to Ankara to mediate between two nations
Ynet
Published: 09.20.12, 08:28 / Israel News

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last Monday that a Jewish tycoon was sent to Ankara to mediate between Israel and Turkey.

A newspaper report suggests that the mediator is Ronald Lauder, a close associate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who previously mediated between Israel and Syria.

In an interview with Hurriyet newspaper, Erdogan said, "They sent us the world's richest Jew several months ago." He was answering a question on the current state of Israel Turkey relations. He noted that Israel has ties with one Muslim state and advised Israeli leaders to maintain good relations with Ankara.

Erdogan further stressed he has not forgotten about the 2010 Gaza flotilla raid, in which nine Turks were killed. He stipulated three conditions necessary for the reestablishment of relations with Ankara: an apology for the killing of Turkish citizens, compensation for the victims' families and the lifting of the Gaza blockade.

30 The GOP's chances of taking over the Senate are "down to 21 percent" if you believe some of the bogus polls the media has been releasing within the past week or two.

Yesterday an entire slate of Senate polls came out and amazingly not a single one of them showed a Republican winning a contest (odd how they never show polling of NE or ND, but they often release polls of the likes of NY and NJ, which aren't even being contested). A few of these polls showed margins for the Democrat which obviously could not be correct (sorry, champs, but Tommy Thompson is not losing by 9 points and George Allen is not losing by 8 points).

You don't need a ouija board to figure out the strategy. Flood the zone with waves of polls showing Democrats winning, depress conservatives into not bothering to show up to vote, eke out a few close contests, maybe snag a contest in a recount, then barely hold onto the chamber, by the margin of conservatives whom you duped into staying home.

The irony is that it might actually work out that way. The further irony is that the O'Donnell, Angle, Buck fiasco from 2010 not only still resonates but could for the 2nd consecutive election cycle keep Harry Reid as Majority Leader.

Meanwhile, in LA:

Some of Porn Valley's top performers are rallying against a measure that will be on the November ballot in Los Angeles County: Measure B would at least attempt to enforce condom use on adult video sets. The county rule would require porn shoots in most parts of greater L.A. to obtain massage parlor-type permits and ensure condom use.

According to organizers behind the "Vote No on Measure B" campaign performers from top porn agencies Spiegler Girls, OC Modeling and Digital Playground will sign limited edition t-shirts that express their, er, distaste for condoms.

According to an industry source, participating stars will include Kayden Kross, Teagan Presley, Jessie Andrews, Skin Diamond, Christy Canyon, Kiki Daire and more.

The industry has rallied against such efforts, saying that consumers won't buy condom porn, that its monthly STD testing of performers works, and that it would violate porn stars' freedom to express themselves sans protection.

64 Something to keep an eye on:

China-Japan-US:
China's national defense minister warned Tuesday that Beijing reserves the
right to take further action against Japan in the dispute over uninhabited
islands in the East China Sea, known as the Senkaku/Diaoyu in the latest
episode. Standing next to US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, General Liang
Guanglie said Japan should bear full responsibility for the dispute, which has
triggered violent protests in China against the Japanese.

Comment: Japanese
commercial enterprises closed for a second day because of the threat of
government-orchestrated protests. Readers should know that in China public
demonstrations always are government arranged, approved, organized and
executed. Spontaneity is not a trait of this communist government.

The Chinese national defense minister's statement during a
public appearance with the US Secretary of Defense is a serious breach of
protocol. It was a deliberate insult to the US and Japan and signifies
contempt. Chinese leaders apparently judge they can get away with any kind of
demeaning behavior with a US Defense Secretary.

All the above is the latest activity by China, previously:

China-Japan: About
1,000 fishing boats have been mobilized by China to sail to the Senkaku/Diaoyu
island chain controlled by Japan. Anti-Japanese protests continued in China for
the seventh day.

China-US: For the
record. In Beijing today, anti-Japanese crowds attacked and damaged the
official vehicle in which the US Ambassador to China was riding. The ambassador
was not hurt, but the vehicle was damaged.

[ H/T: KGS Nightwatch ]--------------------------------------------------------

The LSM, and more than a few blogs, have under-reported the fact China and Japan are on the verge of a diplomatic collision. If the Chinese gang-rush the Senkaku Islands and raise the PRC flag over them, nothing short of shooting will push the Chinese back.

A 2005 amendment to the Chinese constitution makes any discussion, let alone any negotiations (towards a written agreement), that lead to the ceding of Chinese territory an act of treason. This the dynamic facing Chinese geo-political neighbors as China actively occupies islands in dispute.

This is a problem that's not going to away after November, in fact (IMO), expect the ChiComs to 'test' whoever in sitting in the WH next January.

Consider that real possibility as November 6th approaches.

You would think, this being the United States of America and all, that someone in Congress would have told Choom Boy that his ass would be in the impeachment chair if he tries to pull shit like this. Actually, in the real U.S.A., you would think 535 members of Congress would have told him so.

You would be wrong. I'm thinking he'll get the job done, send that eyeless turd back to his pals in Egypt without any pushback from the eunuchs in D.C.

It'll make a good "Obamateurism," though.

What squirrels and shiny stuff will mask this treasonous act?

Want to preach politics from the pulpit? Fine, but you won't be Tax Exempt anymore. Preacher wants to let people know that Barack Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable tyrant (not in those words, of course)? Fine, he can do that- just not from the pulpit and not "as" the preacher.

90 That “ancient fragment” that claimed Jesus was married is a forgery.

Another for the "no shit, Sherlock" file. Never trust the MSM on anything, but that goes double when they have anything to say about Christianity.

Since I first saw The Addams Family, I've always had a massive crush (keeping it rated G - you never know when a Junior Moron is reading) on Carolyn Jones.

One of her early movies was 1957's Baby Face Nelson*, where she starred opposite Mickey Rooney. The two of them became very good friends and spent a lot of time simply hanging out together. During one shot, the director and lighting designer were having trouble with the setup, so Rooney and Jones sat off to the side, talking. Eventually, Mickey began telling Carolyn about his string of ex-wives. He didn't get down and dirty about it, though, just pondered over the fact that he'd always married women taller than he was, showering them with attention and gifts.

After a while, he stared off into the distance. "Yeah," he finally sighed. "I put shoes on them and then they walk away from me."

Not much else comes to mind today. Shoot me a suggestion if there's a star you'd like to hear a story about. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

There was snickering earlier this week when Akin's campaign put up a web page (one they say was not yet ready for public view) that featured a picture with a Democrat party operative, and claimed she was one of his female supporters.

It seemed silly, regardless of the truth, but the overall impression is that Akin is running a boutique campaign that is being run by amateurs.

If he wasn't such a listless idiot, he'd probably still lose simply because he's going to be outspent by a mile.

They are probably mad that the black churches in the urban areas and the South do this regularly and get away with it because nobody is ever going to go after a black church for tax violations.

But be that as it may, I have often wondered how they can get away with paying no property tax. Here in the little local town you can not swing a dead cat in the city without hitting a church. There are at least two on every city block.

They pay no city or county property tax so everyone else has to make up for that through higher taxes.

You seem to think this is a new thing.

Preachers -- particularly those from certain demographics -- have been doing this for years. Somehow, they all seem to push Democrats, and none are ever bothered by the IRS (or anyone else).

Honestly, I think this is a fight the Christian community a large needs to have. We all know that some churches are allowed to get away with pushing political messages, hosting candidates, etc and so on. But the minute your pastor or priest says, "Hey, abortion might not be a good idea," you've got nasty letters coming from the IRS.

I'm Catholic and I really think that if priests weren't so afraid of being persecuted by the Feds we could have stopped a lot of the migration to the left amongst the people in the pews. We might be ale to bring a good chunk of them back to sanity if we could address some of the political issues Catholics seems to throw their faith out the window for.

137 I've posted before that Obama will not leave the WH voluntarily if he is reelected. 8 years won't be enough and that pesky Constitution and rule of law will just have to take a time-out.

Secondly, the branding and marketing stuff doesn't usually bother me...it is what it is...but some things should be scared and remaking the US flag is beyond the pale, IMO.

All of those bleating for RDs to get along and compromise are either libs themselves who know compromise means moving to the left, or they really do not understand liberalism. You cannot compromise with people who fundamentally want to change who you are. It's not possible.

Fear of persecution is no excuse.

Christians were martyred for much, much less than expressing an opinion. I am glad the USCCB is finally finding a spine, but it's going to take years for that to filter down.

Posted by: Schrödinger's cat at September 20, 2012 08:11 AM (feFL6)

Exactly. I don't think they should be endorsing candidates. But I don't see whatis wrong with saying, "Hey, these are our values and they matter." I also don't necessarily see anything wrong with going through a candidate's record on those issues, so long as they don't endorse. Show people the truth and let them decide for themselves.

Again, I am Catholic. I took a friend from church to see the 2016 movie and she was absolutely flabberghasted. She says she had no idea about any of the stuff in the movie, ie the stuff that was flat out in his own books. She's been personally taking five to ten people from church to see it every week and emailing and calling folks to badger them into seeing it, too. The reaction from all these folks is exactly the same as hers. Most of them weren't even vaguely aware of the president's extreme views on abortion, either, until the HHS mandate rolled around and they watched the abort-a-thon at the DNC convention. None of this stuff was ever mentioned last time because any time our priests say anything even in the ball park of political they get the IRS letters. I'm guessing at least one of the more liberal parishioners calls them to complain, which explains how the IRS would have any idea what was being preached at mass.

Yeah, I get that. It just annoys me. The Hobbit is the only Tolkein story I actually like. It's a self-contained, funny little adventure story. Let us never forget this fundamental truth: the State has no source of money other than money which people earn themselves. If the State wishes to spend more it can do so only by borrowing your savings or by taxing you more. It is no good thinking that someone else will pay—that "someone else" is you. I believe there's been something of a movement in black churches (the Jeremiah Wrights of the world notwithstanding) of black preachers and the like encouraging their congregations to stay home and not vote on election day, due almost solely to the gay marriage issue. Obama will still get the vast majority of the black vote, but I think he'll be VERY surprised at how low their turnout will be.

Doing the maps to 100% completion isn't necessary, but it's *fun*.
There aren't exactly "quests" though (except your personal storyline), but there are the renown hearts, and there are the dynamic events (which are a lot of fun).

The hearts (and points of interest, and vistas) guide you to areas where events tend to occur...which help you level. Also, pretty much any activity you do gets you experience. Harvesting crafting nodes gets you some, crafting itself can level your character up in a hurry...etc etc.

Which is further proof for my continued argument that Obama hates black people. Scott Brown is not a pick-up seat. It's a seat to maintain. So Senate might go 51-52. But rememberthe Republicansstill have to deal with Susan Collins. Just because she has "R" next to her name, doesn't mean she will appeal Obamacare. She voted for it along with Ms. Snowe. So we might as well count her as a "D". So it's crucial for McMahon and others like Josh Mandel to win along with Neb, Wis, and North Dakota.

People keep saying that North Dakota is a toss-up, but I have only seen one poll with the Democrat ahead. Any other polls released in that race?

Just like the story about Paul Ryan drinking expensive wine in a restaurant with secular right-wing think tankers. This Papist wine drinker mocks our Calvinist thriftiness.

Apostate debaucherNewt Gingrich lavishes his harlot wife with gaudy, prideful, immodest jewelry, spitting in the face of modestMennonites..

Rand Paul sleeps with heathen Aqua Buddha scriptures taped to his penis.

Rick Santorum believes God sees merit in human good works, undermining the principle of sola fe.

Apparently the interrogation spaces in the basement of Lefortovo prison in Moscow are in a maze of cross-connected hallways. Once the KGB had extracted all useful intelligence information from a detainee they would walk him from room to room through this maze, ostensibly for a series of additional "interviews" in different rooms. Somewhere on the walk from one room to the next an agent would step out from a dark alcove and abruptly shoot the detainee in the back of the head.

Somehow I always think of that when the subject of Gitmo comes up.

Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty has been tapped as the new head of the Financial Services Roundtable, a major Wall Street lobbying group. He is stepping down as a co-chairman of Mitt Romney’s campaign to take the bipartisan job.

“I think this is the sexiest CEO job going around in the association space,” Ivan Adler, of the McCormick Group told The Hill. “If a CEO job for an association can be sexy, this is it.”

According to NBC News’ Andrew Rafferty, Pawlenty has been pursuing a private sector gig since dropping out of the presidential race last summer.

251) The poll doesn't give the breakdown by state, but the separate swing state poll includes Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. It's a seven day rolling average and it doesn't state if each state is polled each day or if they do a different state or two each day and add it to the rolling average. The past few days have shown Romney up in New Hampshire and Colorado and up slightly overall in the swing states as a whole. Now it shows Obama up two. I hope that doesn't mean Obama has increased his lead in Virginia, Florida, Ohio, etc.
It appears that Romney is winning where the independents are white and Romney is winning where there are significant black populations.
Incidentally, I ordered two Romney signs on Sept 10 that haven't shipped yet. I called yesterday and they said they've had a high order volume so ship times are taking longer. I guess that's a good thing and hopefully not a sign of campaign management incompetence.

In the months leading up to his death, U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, worried about what he called the never-ending security threats in Benghazi and mentioned his name was on an al Qaeda hit list, a source familiar with his thinking told CNN.

Stevens specifically mentioned a rise in Islamic extremism and al Qaeda’s growing presence in Libya, the source said.

American intelligence officials are investigating, but Matthew Olsen, the National Counterterrorism Center director, said Wednesday that it was unlikely that Stevens and his security team were killed by random protesters.

“I would say, yes, they were killed in course of terrorist attack on our embassy,” Olsen said at a Senate Homeland Security hearing...

I agree... sorry Mandy, your opinion sits in the 'minority' column (no disrespect to you).

There's a huge amount of back-story between The Hobbit and LOTR, and virtually NONE of it was addressed in the 3 movies.

( And much of it is serving as the basis for a MERP campaign that I'm playing in... the campaign is set 8 years before the start of the War of the Ring, and the GM is a *major* Tolkien fan... and he's got plenty of ammo to slap the group around with.)

319 Mitt Romney's campaign this week has pounced on a 14-year-old clip of
Obama speaking about "redistribution" in October 1998 at a conference
in Chicago, in which the future president seems to extol the virtues of
redistributing wealth.
Yet NBC News has obtained the entirety of
the relevant remarks, which includes additional comments by Obama that
weren't included in the video circulated by Republicans. That omission
features additional words of praise for "competition" and the
"marketplace" by the then-state senator.

Oh yeah, Barry is just a raging capitalist. Funny how the NBC killed itself to find the whole clip of what Barry had to say but edits other audio and video

320 have to read the Rasmussen poll before getting concerned. If he lost Republican support, but maintained his lead with Independents, it probably just is an anomoly, that will correct in a few days.
Also, on the swing state polling, I do not believe the individual state polls that Rasmussen puts out (such as New Hampshire and Colorado in the last few days) are included in his overall swing state poll. So don't look at the results from the individual state polls to figure out what is going on in other states (e.g., he must be losing big in FL, VA and/or Ohio if he is up in CO and NH).

Posted by: tofer732 at September 20, 2012 09:25 AM (2zM0P)

321 205 Obama up 47-45 in Rasmussen.

That may be a result from the MSM hammering Romney over the 47% comments.

Note that mainly, Romney's number got depressed. Obama's number got elevated only 1 pt from the previous day's average.

I wouldn't worry about leaners either.

Romney's number will come back up in a few days.

Of course I would also like to see Romney's campaign look at the polls and say "gee -- maybe we're not going to win as big as we think!" and put the screws to Choom Boy, big-time.

Nothing less than a landslide will do. We have too much damage to repair.

And I will make my usual (but probably fruitless) plea for less Squirrels and Shiny Stuff and more emphasis on what really matters. Which is to rid the White House and Congress of the slime that infest them. Being jokey and/or taking the "Poppin' Fresh" approach won't help at all.

375 Polls schmolls.

We haven't even had the debates yet. It's also still September.

Historically, debates may not be game changers, but if Mitt can get under Obortion's skin to the point where veins are visibly popping out on his head and he starts to lose it on live national TV...

Narcissists can't stand to be ridiculed. I don't think Mitt will have to do much to provoke a rather un-Presidential response from Teh Won.

382 Bill Kristol needs to be called out on his destructive behavior. Here is what I know about him from my anger at his actions during the Bush 2000 campaign and the early years of the Bush administration.

1. He got hired as a domestic policy advisor for Dan Quayle. Quayles Chief of Staff got fired under mysterious circumstances and Kristol took over. He was the one who told Quayle to mak the Murphy Brown speech (which he admitted to Brit Hume on special report with laughter.) He also encouraged Quayle (in the run-up to the 1992 re-election campaign for Bush 41 to strike out on his own, which cause more disarray in the campaign.

Kristol had a reputation of leaking to the press, so James Baker wouldn't allow him to attend any campaign strategy meetings. In his book "Standing Firm," Quayle says this was because Baker was intimidated by Kristol's intellect. (This shows you that Quayle is a moron and that Kristol helped him write his stupid book, which I still have for reference.)

2. After Clinton got elected, Kristol got funding to start the Weekly Standard from Rupert Murdoch. He spent the next few years skulking around Washington and building up readership.

3. He then decided that when Clinton was out, the best person to run against Gore would be Colin Powell. He spent quite some time writing about how Powell would be the perfect candidate and trying to convince him to run. When Powell wouldn't do it (due to his wife's objections) he migrated to McCain.

4. When Bush 43 got the nomination, Kristol spent almost all of the campaign sniping at Bush, calling him lazy, poorly informed, etc. He continued this right through the Florida recount. When Bush finally was declared the winner, Kristol shut up for about 3 months, I suppose thinking he would be able to weasel his way into an administration position.

5. Bush didn't hire him, no doubt taking advice from Jim Baker. So Kristol THEN wrote a scathing critique of the Bush administration's negotiation of the pilot and plane release (China plane incident) called "Our Profound National Humiliation."

4. Kristol then resurfaced as the ONLY person who knew about the Jeffords jump prior to Jeffords announcing. Months later, I discovered that Jeffords had been told by "a Republican insider" that the dairy subsidy (which he was so proud of) was going to be ended. This was a lie and the Bush people didn't understand how Jeffords thought that. I believe Bill Kristol told Jeffords that and put him in touch with Tom Daschle. Kristol, remember, had ADANCE KNOWLEDGE of this party switching and did not notify anyone in the Bush administration.

So, I never believe anything Kristol says. He's a troublemaker and a weasel.

388 Sadly the conservative blogosphere in 2012 seems to be washed up by the MSM wave.

Imma gonna go on a little mini-rant, here.

I post (a lot) that I have new posts up at my place. BackwardsBoy, EoJ, and others have active blogs. I don't know about them, but a lot of time it seems that I'm shouting into the wind.

We're posting to help our side, and we can neither get constructive criticism (I actually do, sometimes, now, but even then its rare) nor can we get a boost from the "big" bloggers. It's not like ace and the cob-loggers are unaware of us, but we can only help if we're heard. We're not "professional bloggers" but we do blog a lot. Well, BB and I do, anyway.

It seems to me (and others may disagree- just giving my impression) that the tendency of the "good ole' boys' club" to form is starting to cause problems in the Conservative Blogosphere. The big leagues (of which, despite our jokes, Ace is a member) tend to stick with each other, and it's hard to get noticed in that. Really, how hard is it to say, "Hey, I recognize that guy, let me RT that?"

Now, I'm not really complaining about ace, but about a natural human tendency. We're comfortable with the people we're comfortable with, whether that's in RL or online. Ace has limited time, so he' much more likely to spend it on First (or second) rate blogs than looking through all of his commenters to see who has a blog, and making sure to drop by there every day.

That said, I believe a concerted effort needs to be made to get the word out about smaller blogs. One of the reasons for the 2010 wave was the blogosphere. More specifically, it was a unity of message and purpose.

Now, that's starting to fracture. Not because we're not still allies, but because people are falling back into the niches. If we want to combat that, the way is to make sure even the small blogs are known. Then we can get the same volume we got in 2010 against ObamaCare, but on just about every topic- the economy, foreign policy, TFG's general SCOAMFiness, and so forth.

Okay, rant off. I'll step off my soap-box now.

389 Remember Every thing, Everything they do from now until the election is designed to depress our vote. Everything.

Yes. But not just "our" vote-- also independents'. That's a big reason why lately the trolls are so obsessively focused on polls and "Obama's going to win," and have nothing whatsoever to say about policies, Obama's or Romney's. It's like they know Obama's policies and record has nothing in it to attract independents (and Romney has an advantage there). But they're making an all-out effort (ever since the conventions) to portray Obama as the "strong horse."

Washinton Examiner- Obama Regs cost 1.8 trillion/Year

Current federal regulations plus those coming
under Obamacare will cost American taxpayers and businesses $1.8
trillion annually, more than twenty times the $88 billion the
administration estimates, according to a new roundup provided to Secrets
from the libertarian Competitive Enterprise Institute.

And it could grow, warned the author of the report, Clyde Wayne Crews, a CEI vice president.

Complying with Health and Human Services
Department requirements alone, he revealed, costs $184 billion a year,
yet regulators are still drafting the rules for the 2,400-page Obamacare
law that kicks into gear in 2014.

Obama is only up 1 point from Tuesday with all the crap that Romney was called on Mon, Tues and even yesterday???

Come on...relax....Mon was probably a very bad day for polling for Mitt with Ras and Tues would be to....I suspect tomorrow will show the same and into Saturday which will skew Dem anyway with weekend....but by next Tuesday..barring some other who knows what...it will balance....Romney took a couple point hit from the massive negative MSM narrative on Mon and Tues and that was in the polls showing today. He has done well since and like Sven said did great in the Univision Interview....

It will balance out but it should have been expected by us...1-2 point swing after that bashing on Mon and Tues and even Weds...is not that bad at all!

If nothing else (even if I suffered brain trauma and turned into a raging leftist), seeing trolls, concern trolls, and mobys (and their counterparts in the MSM) nauseatingly at work has turned me off, repelled me from the Democrat party *forever*.

Seriously, how can any human being with any sense of personal integrity feel good working for a campaign that pays them to lie, recruits and pays them to make efforts every hour of the day for days and weeks and months to infest the public sphere with lies, to deceive other human beings, other Americans? Your job is to be a con man. That's it. Yes we can!

And if they're doing it for free-- my god, even worse. (The MSM liars are at least getting rich off it.) These people must have no lives at all. Well, I guess it's a good fit for pathological liars and certain kinds of sadomasochists.

447 Look man, you're one of the big dog commenters on this site and I'm just
a little guy guy here who only posts occasionally and no one really
pays much attention to, but that rant was kinda whiny.

I was trying to avoid that, but I wanted to cut off my comment before it got to Movie Review length.

The point isn't my blog specifically. The point isn't even that the Morons have blogs. The point is that any organization (which, for better or worse, the 'top-tier' blogs have become) is intrinsically protective of its membership- which also makes it hard (without a concerted effort) for new members to join, to greater or lesser extent.

If there's a problem with "enthusiasm" sitting and complaining that the blogs don't seem as excited as 2010 isn't the way to fix it. The way to fix it is to make a concentrated effort to get additional conservative voices heard.

I'm not expecting a link every day (though I'd like it, I'm not going to lie). I'm not even expecting a link most days. But some concentrated and considered effort to get lesser bloggers heard seems an appropriate course, if we want to continue beating the media.

453 The Egyptian government “asked for his release,” an administration source told The Post — and Rep. Peter King (R-LI) confirmed the request is being considered.
The White House, State Department and Justice Department each issued statements denying any deal is in the works, but, “There’s no way to believe anything they say,” said Andrew McCarthy, the former assistant US attorney who prosecuted Abdel-Rahman. “I believe there may already be a nod-and-wink agreement in place.”

454 Another thought: many concern trolls/ mobys must suffer from extreme self-loathing, because they're happiest not speaking their own minds, their own thoughts and opinions and arguments, but rather pretending to be someone else. And insofar as they're projecting their ugliest thoughts and psychological urges (e.g. racism) onto the political opponent they're pretending to be: pathological psychological bonus!

Sure it is. The big dogs were instrumental in 2010 in victory. Now they're pushing the completely discredited polls that they themselves routinely discredit.

It's fucking bizarre.

If the commentariat doesn't try to hold them accountable, what's the point of a commentariat? I have neither the time nor the chops to blog, but I've got enough of both to run my mouth in the comments.

They were, and they will be here, too. But the way they got to be big blogs was by constantly blogging. Even on an off day, the HQ has 4, 5, or 6 threads. On a good day, ace can drop one an hour on us from about 10 Eastern to about 5 or 6 Eastern, plus the Headlines thread, plus the ONT. That's 10 - 12 posts per day. Every weekday.

Polls are news. Whether or not we like it, whether or not we like them polls are news. We need to know about these things in order to refute them, if nothing else. Pretending otherwise is simply silly.

But that does mean the "message" is getting watered down- and the solution to that is to increase the number of voices carrying the message.

Wait a minute there on Loudoun; we are close enough to DC, and have enough horse country left that a lot of our rural area isn't actual farmers, but screaming organic liberal global warming fruitcake progressive estate district--the same limousine liberals that keep their boats at Wianno on Cape Cod, and so on--their horses live here.

Since a great deal of retired WaPo editors, USA Today, USNews and World report honchos are also "farmers" here in the various historic districts they get established for themselves and their five pet sheep or two steers, they somehow become the "voice" of Loudoun in the...media. Shazaam.

We have had editorials in the WaPo on LOCAL elections in Loudoun before, with Dem supervisors' emails being printed verbatim as the opinion of the editorial staff of the Post.

Loudoun elected a unanimous Republican board less than one year ago, and have ONE D state rep within our borders--we are in greater danger here from some of the Christian libertarians who live out in the hills than we are from the local Dems.

469 As to Nate Silver he is the house organ for the Democrats whose reputation is on his 2008 performance. The real test for a biased pollster is predicting a win by the other guys. Let’s take 2 things1) If Silver predicts a Republican win that doesn’t come he is finished with people who only love him for predicting Democrat dominance2) If Silver predicts a Democrat win that doesn’t come like in 2010 nothing happens to him because from the Democrat point of view NOONE could have predicted the Republican win (Must have been cheating of course which he can’t be held responsible)Sorry, Nate Silver is only accurate in predicting Democrat landslides where he has enough room with his buddies to predict the size of the Democrat win accurately.I say this as the holder of a BS in Statistics. He is cherry-picking to get his predictions to ALWAYS come out Democrat.

Not pretending otherwise. Not saying polls aren't news. The blogs do a good job of discredting them due to methodology. But then sit back and eeyore because we're behind in discredited polls.

That's the issue.

People only have so much time for blogs. I only hit maybe two. As good as your blog may be, I just don't have the time to add it to my small rotation. Best to hold the ones I go to accountable as far as I'm able, however slight that may be.

471 Re #123:

Hi Mandy, I must confess at this point I am CPT Charles's GM.
The Hobbit movie is being released as a 3-part film trilogy for these reasons.

1. Peter Jackson shot a 7-hour Hobbit movie, and is releasing it in 3 parts, much as he did with the epic-length LOTR film.
2. The segmenting allows for giants, Beorn, and more of the little details that were casually dropped out of the Rankin-bass film for purposes of length. Not to mention some more of PJ's excellent action scenes.
3. As he repeatedly stated during the pre-production and production phase, Jackson intended to also tell the parallel tale of the White Council moving against Dol Guldur. (That is the reason why Gandalf leaves the Dwarves after meeting with Beorn; he has a battle to join.) The movie acknowledges that Bilbo's tale takes place in the same Middle-Earth continuity as LOTR, and is part of the chess game the Wise played against Sauron before he decided to return to Mordor.
4. LIkewise, he seems to tell the tale of the Lonely Mountain in full, which takes some time, and gives better motivation of why Thorin and company are so keen to take down Smaug, beyond the obvious event recovering all their wealth. The tale of the misfortunes of father and grandfather also allows the audience to sympathize with Thorin some more. Very often in the novel he comes across as a greedy, stubborn jerk instead of a prince on a desperate venture to save his people from decline.

474 "I saw this yesterday, and was gobsmacked by the stupidity. The Churches (that is: the specific congregations) accepted certain limits on their "official" speech when they accepted Tax Exempt status."

You and Vic are both mistaken. Churches and pastors refrain from speaking on politics as a courtesy. The government refrains from taxing Churches because the constitution does not permit them to exercise control over the finances or speech of religious institutions. If the govt starts trying to break up mainstream churches for saying things the President doesn't like then we've gone full fascist already

479 I would frankly be surprised if the GOP took the Senate, it is a huge uphill battle. In any case, without a massive majority the way things are now, it wouldn't matter anyway.

I expect guys like Akin and Brown to win but I don't see that adding up to a majority for the Republican Party in the senate.
