This

Perhaps the most perfect rant, from commenter Voluble in Andy's earlier Preference Cascade post. Me and a few other morons talked about it some today.

Presented without additional commentary, because it needs none.

129 As a small business owner all I can say is that I think the current sentiment in the small business community is that we didn't sign up for this shit. Y'all can vote for whatever the hell you want but we are not going to be a part of it.

I have seen more owners get out of the business or retire in the past couple of years than ever before and with the ACA on the horizon the jobs these businesses produced will not be replaced. The economics no longer work. This is why unemployment is always so high in socialist countries. What you have to go through to have employees is just brutal.

But here's the thing about what Obama said --- he has it exactly backwards. The government didn't build any of that shit he is talking about --- we built it. We are the ones who paid for it. Not only did we build our businesses we built the schools and the roads and everything else he thinks was generated out of thin air. If you want to get technical about it the businesses and taxpayers that came along before we did built it all and now we are building what comes next.

And not only that, but we did it with the albatross of a predatory, corrupt and overbearing government hanging around our necks at every juncture.

And now we have had enough.

I haven't made more than $50k from my business but one or two years of the past 15. But now that it is time to cash out after providing literally hundreds of jobs I get the stink eye and get castigated for being a member of the 1%. Even though I can remember sitting on the edge of the bed and holding my head in my hands wondering what I had done risking everything I had to create a business and wondering how it would all work out when I had just finished working several days in a row with no sleep... I am the enemy. Even though I didn't take a paycheck for the first year of the business and later skipped other paychecks to meet payroll or to pay taxes I am somehow at fault for the fact that all of these people sitting on their asses or working their cushy government jobs with the large pensions funded by armies of tax collectors and regulators may have to go without.

Well, I already went without so they can bloody well shut the fuck up and take their turn in the barrel! If they want to risk everything they have or work their asses off with no guarantee of success only to be told at the end that they were not responsible for their own success and don't deserve their rewards then they are welcome to go down that path and see what it is like. But the number of people who will pursue the American dream and build the economy from the roots up will be greatly decreased in the current atmosphere and all of these self-entitled idiots will sit around wondering why the government is still going broke and why no one is hiring.

No country can survive socialism. It just doesn't happen. Sooner or later the bill comes due. But before it does you always get demagogic idiots like Obama, or Chavez who try to blame their failures on the only people who are keeping everything afloat. It is not enough they sank the damn ship... they have to come after the people in the life boats too.

That is the sort of mentality we are dealing with.

I am becoming more hopeful about this election-as long as we can keep the voting fraud down. But otherwise, it sounds like plenty of people are sick and tired of being called names, being told they and their work are not worth anything, and that what they have made, they better darn well share with those who don't have the smarts or the drive to do anything. I hope we are rally on November 6, and have some real change.

I never knew how much money they made but I knew what I made. It never seemed to be enough. Only until I was older did I respect the sacrifice. Now I could not imagine running a business of any kind. So many hands in your pocket. So many fears of litigation for thing you may have no control over.

Polli, put the onus on her to prove that. Paulbots have a tendency to pull stats out of their rear ends, so rather than you being defensive, make her provide "the link." Goldman Sachs donates to both parties, to hedge its bets, so to speak. Most giant corporations do this, save for GE, which is in the tank for the Dems. And for cripes sake, Ron Paul didn't get enough votes to earn one delegate for the convention, did he? Dear lord, give up PAulbots. Nobody wants that crazy, anti semitic jerk as president.

26 I think I gave someone the most epic beat-down ever, last night. He was advocating Carter-era taxes and blamed Reagan for closing down mental hospitals. That's my "you're-too-ignorant-to-chat-with" litmus test. Here's my response:

You mean this:

The Lanterman–Petris–Short (LPS) Act (Cal. Welf Inst. Code, sec.
5000 et seq.) concerns the involuntary civil commitment to a mental
health institution in the State of California. The act set the precedent
for modern mental health commitment procedures in the United States. It
was co-authored by California State Assemblyman Frank Lanterman (R) and
California State Senators Nicholas C. Petris (D) and Alan Short (D),
and signed into law in 1967 by Governor Ronald Reagan. The Act went into
full effect on July 1, 1972.

The Act in effect ended all
hospital commitments by the judiciary system, except in the case of
criminal sentencing, e.g., convicted sexual offenders, and those who
were "gravely disabled", defined as unable to obtain food, clothing, or
housing It did not, however, impede the right of voluntary commitments.
It expanded the evaluative power of psychiatrists and created provisions
and criteria for holds.

///

And this from the L.A. Times in 2000:

“Three decades ago, the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act was hailed as an advance in the humane care of mentally ill people.”

Ok, so you basically were referring to a *1972* (he was not President)
*state* law, which was a bipartisan product of collaboration between
both the Assembly and Senate, authored by men from both parties and
“hailed as a [fucking] advance in the humane care of mentally ill
people” and yet you blame *Reagan* *alone* for the effects, which not a
single governor or president in the next 40 fucking years couldn’t fix?
WTF is *that* logic? Enlighten me.

///

Just remind her that Obama got a lot more money from Wall Street than John McCain did.

I manage real estate. Two properties, 5 commercial tenants. 2 apartments. A Florist, Caterer, liquor store, specialy light bulbs, and a bar.

All are having problems. I haven't raised the rent in two years and they are still having problems paying the rent. Properties assessed for taxes at $500K each.

ROI at that 'value' is 3 percent. Currently, real estate taxes and insurance takes over 52% of gross rents. It is no longer worth having a small piece of property. Every time the tenants turn around, they have a new fee or permit charge.

If the owners sell, they would likely get no more than $300K, if that.

New York,to name one utterly randomexample, probably makes it harder for small-business people than, say, Texas. Certainly the feds aren't helping, so everywhere in theUnion there's going to be an annoying baseline ofhardship for smallbusinesses, but in certain states that are more generally business-friendly on their own account, the overall burden on the business climatemight not be as hard to bear. Voluble is exactly right. Its not just the taxes, its the regulations. I'm a business attorney, and would love to spend my days helping small businesses structure deals, and working between two companies on the best way to allocate risks between two commercial parties. But instead I spend most of my days helping businesses not run afoul with the government.

Whether it is advising employers on the difference between an employee and an independent contractor, because the IRS wants to make sure that everyone is treated as an employee thus the business is responsible for paying their taxes, or telling those same business owners who have spent their lifetime building a successful business that they must now spend thousands of dollars on an appraisal because the federal government has basically told them that they can only give so much to their sons and daugthers and must pay tax on the rest. Or even worse, even if you sell your company to your sons or daughters, the IRS will deem the sales price too low and treat it as a disguised sale.

This is madness and lunancy. What do we require the small business to pay thewithold and pay the income and payrolltaxes for its employees. Why can't a person gift their entire business to their son or daughter, if that is their choice. It is their business.

This must end.

66 "Most top capitalists are liberal."

Well lets say they favor statist and cronyist economic policies, not out of some personal conviction, but because that favors the powerful and wealthy. If you are set, if you have made your way and have a mega corporation, then the first thing you want to do is make damn sure no competitors can show up and mess up your good thing.

An effective way to do that is to have the government burden new companies so much they can barely make it, make innovation so costly and difficult it isn't likely to challenge you, and to rig the system so heavily that you have to be a mega corporation to survive.

As a matter of personal life, they probably are more libertarian, but this is business.

74 Most top capitalists are liberal because it inoculates them from criticism from the liberals, who would otherwise beset them as was done to Bill Gates back when Clinton was President. Mr. Gates was aloof at the time, seemingly apolitical.

Then Janet Reno set the dogs of war loose on him and he, Gates, though seemingly on the fence, was now a target.

Now he is Lib.

Posted by: navybrat at August 18, 2012 07:31 PM (lxFdr)

75 Nah, what happened to Gates was that he made the mistake of thinking he could just do a good job and put out a good product without lobbying Washington and working with congress. They showed him: pay your tribute or you'll be destroyed. Lobby or die.

76 A-fucking-men to that.

I owned my own business for 10 years and had exactly the same experience.

When a night in shining armor came along and offered to buy me out, I sold like a two bit whore just to escape.

i knew what a stinking motherfucker Obama was going to be - I just underestimated how horrible he would actually be.

As a result of Obama, I hope and pray that he spells the demise of the entire Democrat party in America. Let them go the way the Wigs.

They are TRAITORS to the Republic, nothing less. And they should meet the fate that the law intends for them.

If you ever wondered what it was like to live in 1860 America, you need not wonder any longer. If Obama is reelected, its katy-bar-the-door.

Because when you've got the money to buy politicians, you want politicians that want as much power as they can envision, as expansive and wide-ranging and unprincipled as possible.

85 I didnt start my own business, but I have worked my ass off to get where I am. Was going nowhere after high school for several years..911 happened I joined the military. Went to iraq for a year working 14 hour days in the fucking 120 degree heat with not one day off for my first 3 months. At most 4 hours of sleep a day. When I got back used the money I had saved up and the GI bill to put myself thru college. Graduated, and found a job after 3 months of looking, have worked since.

I used to be a shitbag working at a club, drinking my money away every day. I coulda cared less about anything other than what random slut I was hooking up with that night and making 500 a month for my rent. I know how to not suceed, its pretty easy and in some ways it's fun. But it does suck and it is no way to run your entire life. I worked my ass off to get out of that situation. 95 I think this "moment of truth" by the President may have done more harm than we think. I'm looking at Obama's itinerary and he has several events in NH, then he heads out to Nevada for more campaigning. He has Biden going to MN, MI, DE and NY. Obama looks like he's losing a war of attrition. He looks like he's just trying to hold on to states. Seriously, why is he out in NH with 4 electoral votes? There can only be one reason. NH and NV only work together if you're losing 2/3 of the big three.

But get this, Obama absolutely NEEDS VA and WI to get to exactly 270 with that strategy. I think Obama is being squeezed on the Electoral College. It's quite possible that if NH goes red on election day, Romney wins. There's still CO that could help Obama, but with CO alone, he'd be tied. With CO, he'd still need either NV or NH.

Obama is running out of options and I think it's showing.

111 This is Homeland Security.

This post is by someone that clearly needs our help. We have extensive retraining programs and facilities prepared for everyone that feels oppressed by our fearless leader. Please provide the poster's IP, name, all phone numbers, SSID, Passport ID and fingerprints by no later than noon today to avoid a penalty for harboring a 'John Galt'.

Know in advance that the taint spreads extremely quickly, and everyone exposed is similarly considered an 'at risk' individual. So, first, consider this an official Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notice. It is clearly copied from a thread below this one, making it a violation. And the thread below this one is clearly a copy of -this- one. So remove it too. Both shall be removed immediately or you will face a modest fine of $10,000 per viewer, per instance.

Further, we'll need -you- to provide a complete itemized list of every IP, real name, and all of the other pertinent information for every single viewer - don't make this case worse for yourself.

Plus this behavior is considered illegal in Sealand. Since it is illegal in Sealand, under the Lacey Act, it's illegal here too. After you've compiled the lists and paid the fines, we're still going to be going after you personally as well ... unless you can file this non-disclosure form and agree to make -all- of your future postings Title IX compliant, ADA compliant, and take you talking points from Journolist.

We'd normally say we hope you respond promptly, but the penalties actually accrue -much- faster if you miss this message, so we sent it in as a comment. Hey, even we know Ace doesn't read his comments regularly.

Look for it to happen when Bark if reelected tries to use Federal authority to enforce "Regional Tax Authority" from the suburbs to the cities...

The next "white flight" will be "conservative" and "small business" flight to the sunbelt and middle America.

Bark may not have been able to unify a nation that's the bad news, the good news is he has unified two nations......well not really good news but "news"....

if things get too out of hand win or loose it may be time for all Americans to ponder parting company from their ideological dopplegangers.

200 What we are facing is the outcome of a generational indoctrination of a wide segment of the society via the academy by the stupid asses that thought the North Vietnamese, Fidel Castro, and Robert Mugabe were just dreamy. We joke a great deal around here about it, but there is a serious leitmotif about the left today...they willfully ignore policy outcomes and basic mathematics. Their "ideology" is, as Eric Sevareid described communism nothing more than a path to power.

In this administration we see it 65% or so revealed: Massive subsidies to unproductive allies, no accountability for failure, and contempt for constitutional procedures. In a second Obama administration, we would see the mask completely removed. I genuinely fear for the Republic in a way that I have not on political grounds, even in the days of Jimmy Carter or the Watergate imbroglio. Staring down the Soviets never really bothered me. Listening to the left denigrate work and stoke racial, economic, and regional hatreds leaves me aghast. This is America, not Hugo Chavez's Venezuela.

I know there are many among us that were not and are not thrilled with Mitt Romney. To them, I can only ask this question--if Ronald Reagan were here today, what would he ask us to do? Yes, that kind of rhetoric is cliche if you allow cynicism to creep in, but if you take it straight and look at the condition of the country, the path before us is clear. We have to win this.

I spend three months working collecting rents just to pay taxes. I sent a detailed analysis to the county a couple of years ago showing how they were continuing to raise taxes even while my rents were stagnant. My property was re-assessed anyway...They don't care. They don't understand business. They get paid in good times or bad. They have nice retirements and healthcare and they just don't give a damn about people in business. I believe this to be true throughout most of local government...I'm going to a foreclosure hearing for this apartment complex in two weeks. Loss of this property will mean ten years of work and hundreds of thousands of dollars lost...My situation is not totally a result ofproperty tax increases but they are a largepart of the problem.

was claiming that the majority of Romney'scampaign money was coming from
Goldman-Sachs.
--

Polli, my go-to first step is to question the premise. If GS or any other contributor chooses to donate to a given campaign, is the campaign supposed to turn it down? All campaigns want as many contributions from as many sources as possible. The campaigns don't control who donates to them, what with free will and all.

If the real concern is cronyism, there's simply no way anyone could be worse than the dog eater.

230 26 CT,

My uncle was in Vietnam repairing PBRs when .50 Kerry was there...knew of him but not him.

Kerry was hated but it is hard to frag on a PBR safely so that is probably why he made it....plus he was not there very long really.

Kerry was not a bad skipper from what I've seen other than idiocy at times but hey we were all young once....

what did make Kerry a legend with the brown water navy though was 3PHs 30 minutes dispensary time....

Uncle Jim stood in for a short crew two times out on the river....2d time he couldn't shoot a 13 year old or so kid.....got shot through the elbow with an SKS almost lost his arm....

"took more than 30 minutes for his PH" scan me?

The Catholics, Christians, and Jews are up in arms over healthcare. Small business are seething over 'you didn't build it' comment. Energy companies are bad because of the EPA and Ken Salazar.

Now he has allied with the SPECOP people the Swiftboat vets plus other vets like Medal of Honor winner George 'Bud' Day. And worst of all by calling them political hacks, he has insulted their honor.

He now has opened multiple fronts that he can't defend properly.

I've been told by government hacks that tax increases on businesses are just passed on to consumers...The point they miss is that price increases at the point of sale have consequences. In the rental business, high prices drive people to get roomates rather than living on their own. Or, they stay home at mom and dads rather than paying for an apartment. Everything has a price point. When you price above that point, people do without. In a rising tax environment, businesses without pricing power lose margin. When they lose too much, they fail. Democrats have a tough time understanding this basic math.

Yeah, there's absolutely no fear that Romney could be as corrupt as SCoaMF, much less worse. My understanding was that she wasn't just claiming that Romney got donations from G-S, I'd be shocked if he didn't, but that the *majority* of it was coming from them. I'm positive that's wrong, and G-d knows Gerg's showed us all the ways numbers can be tortured to say almost anything, but wish that I'd had a better answer than "He's doing a lot of self funding and I *know* he's getting a lot of small donations."

I resent being lectured to by someone who has never worked an honest day in his life telling me I didn't build what I have. Yes, I didn't personally build a road or bridge, but the taxes I paid, and which you squandered through waste, corruption, and crony capitalism, did.

I resent being told I'm selfish for wanting to keep my hard-earned money instead of you stealing it and giving it to the Troll class, who risk nothing and produce nothing except a surreal sense of entitlement that makes that class think they're morally entitled to sit on their ass while picking my pockets.

I reject that comment. and I reject your Presidency, which I fervently hope will be repudiated in November

He symbolizes that exhaustion of the other possibilities — the dwindling down of latter-day liberalism to ever more self-indulgent distractions from the hard truths of a broke and ruined landscape. They love them some Walter Duranty, and have often based their careers on his.

(Plus the Sunday Book Thread recommended these books-it's worth it to check out what morons are reading because you will always find some awesome selections.)

317 Thanks Moki...It ain't over till its over. I'm going to ask the bank to allow me more time to turn the property around. We have rolled virtually all revenue into renovations and upgrades this year. Our revenues are up but we are still barely profitable at my current interest rate and tax/insurance burden. Yes, I asked for a mortgage modification. The answer was no...I told the bank rep a couple of years ago that without an interest rate reduction, we probably couldn't make it. Not sure they care...I deal with salaried bank employees. It ain't their money, so the things they do don't necessarily make sense. Sounds like the government...FYI, the tenants leases remain in effect in foreclosure. The bank just hires a management company to do what I do...

318 The trolls do show one reason why we shouldn't start sucking each other's dicks just yet, gentlemen:

Their vicious stupid persistence. So much of their personal identity is bound up with worship of Obama that when he loses, their fragile egos will simply implode. They know that their own lives are pathetic and worthless, but by investing themselves in the glow of the One, they can imagine they are important and their actions have meaning. When we talk about Obama losing, it shakes the entire foundation of their miserable existence. Naturally they lash out with lies, cut-and-paste insults, and half-remembered bullshit they heard on Colbert. It's a matter of emotional survival for them.

This psychic dependence Obama has fostered is a powerful weapon we cannot ignore. He appeals to the stupid, the mad, the broken -- everyone who hates America as it is and prefers to live in the fantasy of Obama's promised wonderland. They won't give up their sick codependence easily.

The scary part? No in between. No middle ground. They know that if Obama is re-elected the economic climate for small business will be even worse than it is now. ObamCare,EPA,OSHA and the rest will put them out of business in spite of their best efforts.
There is no doubt in my mind that weare living under an administration that isdetermined to destroythe Capitalist System in America. The evidence points in that direction and small businesses see the writing on the wall. God help this nation if Obama is successful in his re-election bid. Individual freedoms will continue to disappear right along with jobs. The economy will tank and another Great Depression will arrive almost overnight.

Posted by: Adam at August 18, 2012 09:04 PM (/YJYi)

375 Let me give you a different sort of rant. There is no evidence that Obama has increased regulations more than Bush or Reagan did. This is misdirection designed to conceal the disintegrationist agenda, which controls the "left" and the "right" to persue the same ends. Here's how it works: the disintegrationists on the left promotes radical social disintegration by destroying values and discrediting all legitimate authority. This promotes a backlash which puts the right in charge. The disintegrationists on the right then proceed to promote plutocratic policies designed to disintegrate the economic livelihoods of ordinary people. This promotes a backlash which puts the left in charge and the cycle repeats. The real winners are the disintegrationists whose power over us is enhanced due the lack of collectivism among the people. Libertarianism, anarchism, communism, liberalism etc. are essentially all seeking the same goal which is the disintegration of the cohesive bonds of society be they economic or social. The whole point of Occupy Wall Street wasn't to promote economic collectivism, it was to torpedo banking reform by launching an unreasonable crusade against all rich people and by defying law enforcement. Meanwhile, the conservatives are giving into the homosexual agenda because the disintegration on our side are privately in agreement with it. The disintegrationists control both the "left" and the "right" so that their interests will be preserved no matter which side of the "debate" wins. The American people are, as frequently noted both economically liberal and socially conservative but the disintegrationists do everything in their power to keep us divided into made up ideologies that serve their interests and not ours.

386 I'm on the ground here in California, and Voluble is quite correct. I'm looking at other state to relocate my company, and Texas has been looking real good for a few years.

In other news, I'm not certain that California is a solid 55 EVs for Teh JEF.

The liberal elites, unions and politicians, and their clients professional government check-casherswill likely vote for Teh JEF.

But a large number of Californians are waking up to the stupidity of Jerry Brown. The High Speed Rail Line From Where No One Is To Where No One Goes seems to be the trigger.

There are quite a few people who are getting state retirements, yet are not particularly pro-union. A very few are starting to relaize that they made a bargain with the devil, and that something will have to be done ... to their pensions.

Electing a bunch of "R"s to state offices might result in a painful change, but nothing like the colonoscopy prep and procedure a Federal (read: other-state reps who have better solutions for inflated pensions) bail-out and restructuring would entail.

I expect Romney to win, possibly by 15 points in the national popular vote. I think rioting will be minimal: Occupy Oakland, maybe some NBPP actions, MSM sniveling and meltdowns, the demand for Birkenstocks plummets ... soap and personal hygiene product futures look good, though ...

I see November 2012 as another Prop 13 moment, or one like the few millionaires threatening Berkeley (about their anti-USMC policies); the nation, and possibly Californians, start de-electing fools ...

... professional government check-cashers who desire to continue living indoors and eating food-food will change career paths ... something involving work and a paycheck, I strongly suspect ...

Posted by: George Wallace, Democrat at August 18, 2012 09:10 PM (IoNBC)

404 i have had several businesses for the past few years, and one i started last year absolutely took off. i will say that we are always looking for ways to cut people or avoid hiring, plain and simple. now, my business is not big as we have fewer than 10 employees, but we will do nearly $1 million in our first full year in business. just some anecdotes from our experiences in the past 18 months.

1. sued by a customer who wanted her entire job refunded, meaning she kept all the work done and didn't pay for it. had to hire an attorney. we showed up in court with documented proof that we had done everything to appease her multiple times and had documented proof that her story was false. seems relevant that judge was female and sided with her. we will probably survive, but thousands of dollars in profit was lost (read thousands of dollars of capital that was risked by investment cannot be returned to the entrepreneurs/owners or thousands of dollars of ordinary pass-through income was simply not available to the owner). with customers like this, i don't know how you make any money.

2. often worked hours before and after my career job to make this work. with hours like this, it's hard to see it being worth doing.

3. often couldn't sleep at night because we weren't sure about making payroll. see above.

4. established business in a somewhat distant county to avoid the regulatory regime of the counties in which we do a bit of our business.

5. difficult to keep/employ workers even if highly skilled and motivated as they routinely ask for raises, get them, then leave or refuse to show up, or poison the rest of the employees with their constant whining and demoralizing attitudes. with employees like this, it's hard to see ever hiring more than a skeleton crew.

6. unlike most businesses, we, the owners have been able to return to ourselves about 12% of the 6 figure investment we've made. you know what that means? we have about 90% of our money still at risk after 18 months. at this rate, we would be repaid in 10 years or so. what a great investment. and i would say that our business is very successful.

7. luckily, i have a career on top of this, or i'd be eating ramen for every meal.

8. wages, taxes, worker's compensation, other insurance, followed distantly by rent are our largest expenses in order. absolutely everything else is peanuts.

9. was fortunate enough to be invited to an intimate political event for a successful republican politician. while there, explained to some other alleged republicans about the onerous regulatory environment. the couple sniffed that we'd dare complain that some of the regulations are completely unwarranted and accomplish nothing (absolutely the truth because the requirements would force us to outlay 50% more capital for equipment to comply with environmental regulation, when our business doesn't have any environmental impact in the first place). how can we succeed with attitudes like this among people who are supposed to share our goals?

one thing i am unapologetic about is that if i can get to 50% of my initial capital risked i will start reinvesting in automating absolutely every facet of the business if i can.

(CNN) -- NATO says the majority of attacks by Afghan security forces against coalition troops are driven primarily by personal grievances rather than an infiltration by insurgents.
"Some 10% we know are related to the insurgency," Brig. Gen. Gunter Katz, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force, said late Friday.

The news follows word that U.S. Marine Gen. John Allen, commander of NATO troops in Afghanistan, ordered all troops in the country to carry loaded weapons around the clock following a spate of attacks by people wearing Afghan security uniforms, a U.S. official with direct knowledge of the order told CNN.

Allen's order, made in recent days, was divulged amid two more so-called green-on-blue or insider attacks Friday.

There have been a record 31 such attacks this year that have resulted in the deaths of 39 NATO service members, according to a report Friday on NATO's official online video channel.

We are also dealing with this sort of mentality (30 second Obama ad):

http://tinyurl.com/bu4lfp7

Note the part in the ad that says Mitt Romney made 20 million dollars and only paid 14% in taxes, and then the narrator says, "probably less than you".

Really?

Just exactly how many people in the target audience of that commercial paid over 2.8 million dollars in taxes?

Oh, right, my bad, they just assume we can't do simple math.

That is also the type of mentality we're dealing with. They just assume we're stupid, and therefore we must be taken care of.

474 Please explain this to me--why is the economy and medicare considered more important than the homosexual ideology being implanted in American minds? Let's just concede for a moment that Romney has a great plan for dealing with the economy and Medicare. What good would it do in the long run if our youth's minds are poisoned to buy into the homosexual sickness and the birth rate is depressed? We'd be done for in a few generations. People say homosexuality is a distraction. The truth is the exact opposite of what the disintegrationists tell us to believe. Homosexuality IS THE REAL ISSUE. The other issues are secondary to this danger against our species.

There is not a single Obama voter anywhere in the land who believes that another four years of him will make this country better. Not a single one from coast to coast. No, what they believe is that he will make the country a worse place for those people that they hate. That he will have four more years to sink their ideas deeper in the earth, regardless of how many families go hungry and how many fathers kill themselves because they can no longer take care of their families. What they believe is that Obama will grant their group more special privileges and the rest of the country can go to hell.

560 Do you know what else my classmate Barry doesn't get? It's the guys (and gals) who built the small businesses that were also the folks who ran the Little League, or the Rotary, or sat through endless hours of unpaid schoolboard/city/city council meetings that built the damn schools and roads. They were the folks who passed along part of their success by loaning other family or friends money for their own startups. They were the folks who financed local savings and loans and community banks. And they were the ones who, after they retired continued to be Foster Grandparents, Scoutleaders and on and on and on.

My whole life I've lived in the same liberal la la land as the President where everything good built by those before was scoffed at, mocked and ridiculed in the media, books and the movies. I'm just fortunate that I actually had to work for a living and to struggle with out some limousine liberal smoothing my path at every turn because it stroked their jollies to help a "disadvantaged black man-child". It forced me to see the world as it really is and that the community my grandparents built had real values at the core that had nothing to do with envy or arrogance or Ivory tower marxism.

584 Thanks Voluble. I was working tonight - you know how it is when you own the place - whatever it takes. I couldn't agree more. I've been to the rodeo before, and can identify with the hands in head moment. Mine went like this in a conversation with Mrs. Duke: "WTF was I thinking to have started this? WTF was in my head. WTF!" That was on a good night.

Fortunately, it all worked out - no thanks to the MF'ers who constantly had their hands in my pockets. While I'm thinking of it - a big FU to the NY Banking Commission. We did it in spite of your fucking made-up, bullshit, imaginary rules and threats! F'ing job-killing, desk monkeying, worthless mf'ers!

I could not agree more about the current environment - and it won't get better until some major policies change, and some major assholes are kicked to the curb. F' em! You need to do what's best for Voluble at this point. You don't owe anyone any favors.

Up until last Monday I owned 2 restaurants. I closed one down. I have not made a profit all this year and have put money in every month to make bank note taxes, and payroll. It looks like if I work open to close every day in the remaining store I might be profitable in a few months. These are lean times indeed. I live in Texas and voted in the promary here. I researched and voted for the most conservative in every race, and those individuals all won. There is hope. But business as usual cannot continue. We need to elect more like Ted Cruz.

A tongue-in-cheek comment, sure, but painfully, woefully true. I know people who had been getting ready to vote for McCain in 2008, but when he picked Sarah Palin for his VP, they ran shrieking the opposite direction. Couldn't have one of those "fundies" endangering the nation! The problem with elitists is they're more scared of American Christians than they are of communist China, Mexican drug cartels, Hezbollah sleeper cells, Iranian nukes, and maybe even Wall Street banksters and global warming.

I'm reminded of Golda Meir's observation that there will be peace in the Middle East when Arabs love their own children more than they hate Jews.

The contemporary American version of that is: There will be peace, freedom and prosperity in our nation when leftists love their own children more than they hate and fear Christians.

Another friend said Romney wasn't that popular, and I said no one really is. Then our host said Ryan is cool. I wasn't working them, because they can't vote.

Posted by: Tattoo De Plane at August 19, 2012 02:54 AM (i330i)

599 Wow...

I woke up and went to do some more work since I couldn't sleep and see all of this when I try to wind down for bed.

In all sincerity it is very touching... mostly because of the respect I have for the people here and the knowledge that all of you write things I appreciate every bit as much.

Don't worry about me BTW. My personal situation is good as I saw the way things were going but some of my former employees are still looking for jobs and I am trying to help them where I can. If you take anything away from all of this just remember that Obama has it backwards. Business owners and tax payers built and paid for everything... and they all earned what they have. Obama and the rest serve at our leisure and it is not the other way around.

Apologies to Ace for the profanity but who knew where it was all going to end up. And to Dave in Texas please let everyone know my appreciation for the sentiments they have expressed. It is overwhelming.

And every small business guy out there appreciates it. All we ask for is an even playing field and the possibility of success. We haven't had the former since I can remember and the latter is getting harder and harder to come by. It doesn't have to be that way.

@599 "Apologies to Ace for the profanity but who knew where it was all going to end up."

Um. Apologizing to Ace for profanity? Hrmmmm. It may take me a while to wrap my brain around that one.

Voluble,
Thanks for the rant. It better summed up my thoughts on owning a small business than I ever could figure out how to say on my own. I sold mine for a pittance back in '05 and thank God I did. I like to think that I smelled the shit we're presently in coming around the bend.

Even back then, what I had to deal with in terms of regulation, taxes, worker's fucking comp, employee BS, etc. pushed me as close as I ever want to get to a complete mental breakdown. I literally don't thinkI could have survived much more of it. My hat's off to anyone who can suffer this and thrive as a business and a person.

Small business owners have been the punching bags for lawyers enabled by government drones, insurance carriers enabled by government drones, and of course government drones themselves for a long long time. This has to change. It just does. Owners put up with it all because we had to - it was just a cost of doing business. But now it's just too much. For most, there is simply no upside to trying to live the dream.

It ought to be read out in the town halls of every town in America. And it really should be slipped under the dorm room door of every college student in America, because they, above all, need to learn what's really going on.

The catchphrase was "care in the community."

Involuntary commitment became extremely difficult nation-wide after a Supreme Court ruling in 1975 (IIRC) that prohibited it unless the person were shown to be an imminent threat to himself or others.

Thanks, Supremes!

608 Across America there are thousands of Mom & Pop Durable Medical Equipment (DME) businesses that are closing their doors due to government takeover of healthcare. The bid process now implemented for medical supplies will put the business in the hands of a few politically well-connected companies. The quality of care, availability of services, and the personal touch of the local provider is being lost in an avalanche of socialism. Just as the Obama takeover of the auto industry shuttered the doors of independently owned dealerships, his takeover of the medical industry is accomplishing the same.

Obama MUST be defeated in November!!!!

Posted by: czekmark at August 19, 2012 09:34 PM (8f+Z9)

611 Obama doesn't know the success formula, because he never ran a real business. It takes more than hard work and smarts. It takes "RISK", perseverance, patience, and wisdom too. Obama never had to risk anything in his life, as it was all handed to him by his handlers.

When government taxes and over-regulates business, the RISK sky-rockets, and owners close up shop.

Posted by: CustomerSecrets at August 19, 2012 11:17 PM (So2QX)

612 He said it all, and quite politically correct I might add. Obama's comment had to come from a man who never even considered starting a business - much less doing it. Because that thought alone would have made bim bite his tongue mid-sentence. And that so many people oviously agreed scares me more than the statement. If you saw Elizabeth Warren's version, who are these cheerleaders? Well, frankly, he must have realized early on 'where would I be without my radical communist mentors?' and sighed. But this "you didn't build that" strucka giantnerve.(America's nerve)Especially after countless successfull businessmen now say they could not even start that business today. That should depress anyone.
