| David Brock Releases 290 Page Opposition Research Dump On Ryan; Media Now Has Its Talking Points...in any way related to this? I don't know; I haven't read the oppo dump yet. But this is the sort of shoddy smear Media Matters specializes in. And I do know that Brock finds most of the media, especially the online media, an easy turn as far as getting his crap out there. An old piece from the Daily Caller featured a Media Matters insider talking about friendly forces in the media.MSNBC: “If we published something about Fox in the morning, they’d have it on the air that night verbatim.” Washington Post: "Greg Sargent [of the Washington Post] will write anything you give him. He was the go-to guy to leak stuff." "We’ve pushed stories to Eugene Robinson and E.J. Dionne [at the Washington Post]." "they knew they could dump it at Plum Line [Greg Sargent’s Washington Post blog], so that’s where they sent it.” Huffington Post: "The HuffPo guys were good, Sam Stein and Nico [Pitney],” remembered one former staffer. “The people at Huffington Post were always eager to cooperate..." LA Times: "Jim Rainey at the LA Times took a lot of our stuff" San Francisco Chronicle: "So did Joe Garofoli at the San Francisco Chronicle." The New York Times: "Brian Stelter at the New York Times was helpful." Politico/Buzzfeed: “Ben Smith [formerly of Politico, now at BuzzFeed.com] will take stories and write what you want him to write,” explained the former employee, whose account was confirmed by other sources."Meanwhile... ![]() Comments1

Did the Slate article have this grade when you looked at it? ****** Let me apologize. I originally had a too-credulous item here linking to a piece at The Richmonder alleging that Paul Ryan has sold bank shares after a closed door meeting with Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke on the financial crisis in 2008. As Eric Platt explains he certainly seems to have sold the shares on the same day as the meeting, but the meeting happened in the evening by which time the markets would have been closed. One can perhaps construct a scenario by which the Richmonder's theory of the case holds up, but they don't have the goods and I shouldn't have passed their analysis on with no qualification and so little scrutiny of my own. Yes. I don't know where that little notion came from, if it it originated with that blogger (not Yglesias, the one he got it from) or was planted by someone. But there's an ironclad rule that the weaker your tip, the smaller the venue you can get it published in. A bottom-of-the-barrel tip can only be planted on a smaller blog. Has never shipped guns to Mexican drug cartels resulting in the deaths of two U.S. law enforcement officers and 300 Mexican citizens. 8. Has never told a paraplegic to stand up. Rush was just speaking about how CBS edited out some stuff ryan said, in particular, the fact that his mom lives in florida and is a medicare recipient.
Rush said they wanted to make ryan's cost cuts look draconian. Now, they should not do another interview until they have their editor in the room with the CBS editor, period. This is the second time CBS has done this, remember sarah palin's interview that was sliced and diced? Posted by: kevin durant fan at August 13, 2012 03:18 PM (oZfic) 41
Panic. They're rushing shit out. Mistake. Now Ryan can stomp it all at once AND make the media look even more like a bunch of partisan shills. It would have been smarter to drip it out one bit at a time so that reporters can use the "new revelations haunt troubled candidate" line.

The RNC are idiots (birm) if they don't always have their own videographer taking live time-stamped video of every second of the entire interview session almost to the point of following them into the restrooms. If the "objective" networks don't permit this, then they don't do the interview. This is the only defense against journalistic integrity!

Does that sound like Elementary School to anyone else? And, um, isn't that what (probably) millions of parents do for their children in school? Actually, more important, it shows the liberal mindset- which would be awesome for Ryan to tee-off on: "No, numb-nutz, they didn't "cut" anything. We earned that money. We earned $4.00 for an A. We earned $2.00 for a B. We earned zero for a C. When someone is giving you money, they're not "cutting" anything by giving you less. The Mayo Clinic revealed in a press release today that Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) is suffering from bipolar II depression.
“Following extensive evaluation,” the clinic said, the congressman was diagnosed with the disorder and is being treated at its Rochester, Minn., facility. “Congressman Jackson is responding well to the treatment and regaining his strength,” the Mayo Clinic said. Bipolar II is a classification of manic-depressive disorder where the patient spends more time in the depressive cycle and has hypomanic episodes rather than full-blown mania. The clinic said his condition was “most likely caused by a complex set of genetic and environmental factors,” and noted his 2004 gastric bypass surgery as a potential trigger. “Congressman Jackson has asked Mayo Clinic to distribute this information on his behalf. He and his family remain grateful for support and prayers offered and received on his behalf,” the clinic said, offering no time frame for another update. Senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod today compared the 2012 Republican ticket to the 2008 GOP ticket, maintaining that seven-term congressman Paul Ryan wasn’t different from Sarah Palin and predicting that the Romney campaign would end as it did for John McCain.
“There’s no doubt that I think the appointment has thrilled the base of the Republican Party, the Tea Party Republicans, the social conservatives, because Congressman Ryan is a certifiable right-wing ideologue, and so that’s excited them,” Axelrod said on CBS. “But I saw that excitement four years ago when John McCain appointed Sarah Palin as well. There were huge crowds, much of the same kind of reaction. And I don’t think it worked out very well,” he continued. “I think when the reality catches up with the moment, it’s not going to be a plus for Governor Romney.” Axelrod called Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, “a very genial guy,” adding “I know him, I like him, I just don’t like his views. I think they’re very dangerous views.” He called the distinction between Romney’s fiscal plan and Ryan’s “like a choice between a punch in the nose and a knee to the groin.” Posted by: steevy at August 13, 2012 03:50 PM (6o4Fb) 254

Just hit the Slate link, Yglesias already retracted his Ryan bank trading post and apologized. Those fuckers will believe anything, even if it's for a second.

Quoting Waterhouse: "The Swiss had a pretty cool prototype jet in the early '50s called the Crossbow.
Well, Arbalete, French for crossbow." So, the Swiss had a PROTOTYPE of a jet with a FRENCH moniker. I'll accept your unconditional surrender with some nice chocolates, buddy. I cannot believe the allowance stuff is actually in there. Seriously. That's just. Wow.
You know, Geraghty had a good column up after the Romney cancer ray ad noting that this is why decent people won't run for office. Why would you when you will be accused of giving people cancer? That's the one thing I did like about a Trump candidacy, what skeletons are there? Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump we have scandalous pictures of you and this blonde and her twin sister! Yikes: I looked at the picture of that prototype you posted. Thanks for the pic. However, I hate to say it, but that thing has got the wimpiest little jet engines I've ever seen on an aircraft. No wonder it didn't get past the prototype stage.

about 90% of the subject matter of the Slate article has been redacted (using strike-throughs to boot), so I suppose I must give kudos to Yglesias for leaving the mistake up for all to see.

It's a Ryan-mas miracle!
From Journolist hack Yglesias: "Let me apologize. One can perhaps construct a scenario by which the Richmonder's theory of the case holds up, but they don't have the goods and I shouldn't have passed their analysis on with no qualification and so little scrutiny of my own." None of this matters now. The election is lost. Barry will get another term. The Chicago Tribune is reporting a USAToday/Gallop poll shows Ryan's numbers are as bad as Dan Quayle's were. In fact, worse than Sarah Palin.
Wait, didn't Axelrod compare Ryan to Palin? Oh, crap. I'll just vote for Nader again. Posted by: chiefjaybob at August 13, 2012 04:22 PM (U4FpR) 328
