Media Actually Bothered By Obama's Malignant Ad

Drudge's wordplay, of course. Good word choice.

Michelle Malkin wants an investigation into illegal coordination between Obama and PrioritiesUSA.

So why this vicious ad, coordinated at the highest levels by Obama? Well, remember that Larry Sabato analysis I'm so fond of.

Larry Sabato looked at previous polls and had several conclusions: 1, there are not very many swing voters at all. 2, they're unenthusiastic about voting (which either causes, or is caused by, the fact that they're uncommitted and don't love either candidate).

And 3, they don't much like this Barack Obama character:

Swing voters had much more negative opinions of President Obama’s job performance than other voters. In fact, their opinions were almost as negative as those of Romney supporters. Only 11% of swing voters approved of Obama’s job performance compared with 6% of Romney voters. In contrast, 92% of Obama voters approved of the president’s job performance.

[Quoting Sabato, if that's not clear.]

Sabato's conclusion was that a higher-turnout election actually favored Romney, because if these unenthusiastic Obama critics actually make it to the polls, they'll vote against Obama (or against him about 70% to 30%).

Interestingly, Obama's down-and-dirty negative campaign dovetails nicely with his best strategy, which is to depress the vote among all but his most reliable partisans. Making the election about nothing except negative attacks should do that for him.

Even though Romney has an edge with these True Undecideds, they're small in number. Sabato, IIRC, pegged them at no more than 10%, and yesterday's CBS/NYT poll had it that only four percent were undecided. (Four percent?!)

Still, a 70/30 split with 5% of the population means a net gain of 2% in the overall vote (3.5% for Romney, 1.5% for Obama)-- assuming we can get these people to the polls, which, at the current moment, is in doubt.

Sabato noted of the True Undecideds...

...compared with voters supporting a candidate, swing voters were disproportionately white and female.

I don't know how "disproportionately" white and female they were, though.

So Obama's gambit here may wind up helping him. Soptic's wife was white and female (presumably as to the former, required by the then-existing laws for the latter). The sob story is deliberately chosen to turn white female undecided voters away from the election -- they may despise Obama, especially after this ad, but they'll still remember the lie, won't they?

Obama's strategy is to simply disgust all voters except for his hardest-core partisans and depress the vote of all groups except those reliable Obamabots.

Everything he does must be seen in this light -- yes, he's turning people off, but he's turning people off from politics as a general matter, turning them off of voting, period.

Which is his only hope.

There's an interesting phenomenon that happens with presidential elections: We are all told how important it is to vote, no matter how uninformed you are. Rock the Vote, Vote or Die, etc.

Lots of people only vote in presidential elections, so what Obama would be counting on is that the undecided or wavering members of his natural constituencies would be so disgusted with politics that they would stick their fingers in their ears until November and then take them out just to pull the lever.

I would normally (with a sentient being in the White House) say, "Nothing new. That's his strategy on unemployment - to discourage enough people to leave the workforce to lower the fanciful unemployment rate."

But Barky is no sentient being and he has no such "strategy". The actual truth is much worse and much simpler: Barky the Dog-Eater wants to destroy this nation - to utterly tear apart this society - and he is just doing whatever the hell he wants to bring as much animus and strife to as many people as his pea-brain can think of. That's it. Not much else. He doesn't care about lying ... well ... he loves lying, but that isn't the point for him, here. He doesn't care about anything, just doing anything to break our society, our institutions and our culture. Not to erect anything in its place (Barky doesn't have any concept of building anything - he's too friggin stupid to even bother thinking about the construction of anything and he just doesn't care, anyway) but just to tear down everything he can and bring as much destruction to us as he can. He is a suicide bomber on his run and this is what it looks like.

That's really all there is to EVERYTHING the Ineligible Idiot from Indonesia does. Whatever seems to do the most damage ... that's what he'll go with, and push it even after it becomes a busted con, relying on the reluctance to take down an affirmative action baby on anything. That is the weakness he exploits (his only strength, in fact) and we are still too weak and cowardly in the face of PC to do anything about it, evidently.

So, I think Paul Ryan is an appealing, attractive guy.

He's got some positives which are actually negatives: He's our leader on entitlement reform, which is absolutely crucial, but dangerous to run on.

So my question for the wimmens: Is Paul Ryan attractive enough to women to, um, you know, I don't mean sexually, but is he appealing enough to activate any of the non-rational parts of the brain so that these True Undecided apathetic disconnected women voters might actually have a non-rational positive feeling towards him?

Romney will lose Hispanics. It makes a large difference if he looses them 58-42 as opposed to 68-32.

Similarly Obama will lose the white vote, both male and female. But Republicans who win elections win the female white vote strongly, and Republicans who lose win female whites weakly.

99 So what should Mitt do. With respect to this ad, Mitt's best strategy was to do nothing, because in this case the press is backing him up and telling the voters that this ad is disgusting. They sort of did the same thing with Reid. Of course then Mitt's spokesperson steps on it and angers the base for no purpose. But even that may have been a short-term blip. Using a basketball analagy, maybe it is a good idea to trip up going into the tournament and not during the tournament. The tournament starts at the convention and really after Labor Day.

If the case has been made against Romney, his best strategy may be to go postive. But differently from Obama's "positive" campaign of 2008 which centered around him. Use more of Reagan's 1994 playbook. Make the case for America. Be bullish on small business, be bullish on solving our problems, but don't be fake with Hope and Change. I actually think this will be his strategy, but we'll see.

I don't vote based on physical appearance, but on policy. But since you're asking about a female judgement on physical appearance and demeanor here it is:

I am of the opinion that Paul Ryan would end up being a positive, regardless of entitlement reform, if we're looking at things in the way you propose. He is what I'd call a "cutie." Not hot, but attractive in a boyish sort-of way, and without fail he comes across as sincere and a genuinely nice guy.

So, as far as that part of women's thinking goes, I think he is cute enough that some women would ignore the "throw granny off the cliff" rhetoric you'd get.

Exactly - as I put it, it is to scare the old ladies in Florida who love them some Romney.

But yes I hope they get busted for coordination, the guy is wearing the same shirt in the official campaign ad and in the independent ad. The law says they cannot coordinate, which is why it makes the "we can't tell our supporters what to do" line work. Even though the press is on Republicans to do it all the time.

129 I would think that women would be more likely to have a depressed turnout from a GOP who look like they aren't able to stand up and defend anything of value. That, of course, would go for men, too. No one likes a coward and no one trusts a coward - even against a nasty, retarded lying sack of shit.

Barky's ads would have no effect on any GOPers, whatsoever, if we had a GOP that had at least one nut. But the exact thing they are scared to do - to impeach the America-hating criminal or even talk about it - is what makes the GOP so untrustworthy and leads people to start thinking about other things rather than the election.

If we dumped the Weeping Boner things would radically change immediately. He's an anchor dragging us and everything down with his tears and fear of everything.

He will still win 95% of blacks and 70% of the Hispanics, but the turnout for those will be much lower than 2008, thus he will lose this election by 5% to 8% in the popular count and probably will only win 10 States overall.

Paul Ryan is kinda cute....but not all that attractive, imo.
He comes across as sort of wimpy, in some ways.

Women like 'hero' types.
Ryan is painfully honest sometimes.
And this could hurt him with the ditzy females......the ones who fall for the type of demagoguery that Team Barky would do with Ryan's budget-cutting.

Ryan's honesty is refreshing to me....but unfortunately, I don't think it would be to the liberal-leaning swing-voter females.
If Ryan were more charismatic....he could pull it off better.

Women tend to take brutal honesty better...from a charismatic hero type.

Barky ran in 2008 as a 'hero type'.
But now that charade is crumbling....and they're starting to see him as the smooth-talking cad that he really is.

Oh geez! The Daily Mail has a big spread about Moochelle visiting the Team U.S.A. and their"adorable children"at the Olympics at the top of the page and her "touching photo diary".
A little farther down the page is a story how Romney committed yet more gaffes: calling "Sikhs" "Sheiks" in a condolence speech for the tragedy that occurred earlier this week and also how he crashed a wedding.
"The Republican presidential candidate made the blunder whilst attending a
fundraiser in New Jersey at the same venue where an Orthodox Jewish wedding was
taking place. The moment Romney pulled up in his motorcade the bride and groom's
family 'abandoned' them and ran towards him. The happy couple were left standing
around as 10 of their loved ones desperately tried to take a photo of the
candidate."

That Mitt Romney is such a horrible, nasty man! Not only does he smite women with cancer, he ruins a woman's wedding--the most important day of a woman's life has been destroyed by Mitt Romney. 230 Of course, this is yet more proof (as if it were needed) that enfranchising the half of the population that most often makes decisions based on feelings and a need to feel taken-care-of was a BAD, STUPID, nation-killing move.

The 16th, 17th, and 18th amendments all came before the 19th.

Woodrow Wilson was elected and reelected before the 19th was ratified.

Whether Ryan is appealing depends on a lot. I don't think women see men as hot/not hot based just on looks the way men do. Women have a lot of storyline wrapped up in whether someone is attractive. Which is why you see some woman gaga over freaky looking dudes like Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler.

I think wimmens pick presidents based on who looks like he can take care of things. So the fact that Ryan is kind of a nerd would probably work in his favor, because most women over 30 (voters) know, deep down, that the nerds end up making a good living and hot bad boy is going to leave you alone, in debt, and with 2 kids to take care of. Being a little older, like obviously 45, would probably work inRyan's favor too.

However, what would work best for the ticket with the wimmens would be somebody who can control a room and control a conversation. Somebody who can question the questioner and tell the media how it's going to be. Reagan was good at that, but I'm not sure the media openlyhated Republicans as much as they do now.

Don't get me wrong. I like him, and I like most of his ideas.. but his stupid budget that had zero chance of passing, with its gutting of Medicare loses the elderly vote. And it doesn't matter if it even makes sense or not. You don't put out a proposal like that 1 year before a major election. It's like showing your hole cards before the Flop. 258 This Soptic guy is a piece of work.

Why didn't he go get another job in 5 years?

Why didn't his wife go get another job after her "injury"?

If they had creditable coverage under HIPPA, and it sounds like they both did, then the new employer's health insurance can't deny treatment for a pre-existing condition.

Why didn't she go to the doctor, even without insurance, and at least get checked out if she thought she was sick?

there's Medicaid and teaching hospitals and charity hospitals and medical financing to cover people without insurance. And emergency rooms, which our illegal population frequents DAILY without paying. My sis in law works at a children's hospital and half the cancer cases don't pay a dime (they won't even pay their deductible).

Or is this really Soptic lashing out at everyone else because he and his wife blew off her symptoms until it was too late... which, BTW, every pancreatic cancer victim I know has done... all with the same lousy result.

People with AWESOME insurance get diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer every day because (1) they had no symptoms until it was too late or (2) they blew off the warning signs because they were too busy. If you are sick in this country, you will get taken care of, even if you have no moneySoptic is just lying, probably out of some sense of guilt. Right that is why Grifter Jesus has been concentrating on his accomplishments and acting as vacuous and airheadedly retarded as he did last time right?
Your guys' behavior shows he KNOWS turnout is more like '10 than '08 scooter

In trying to justify this ad, Bill Burton is actually arguing that Mitt Romney is responsible to take care of Joe Whatshisnuts and Family for the rest of his life because of a contractual agreement. If I were Romney I would not be pissed about this ad, I'd be thankful for it and Bill Burton for the explanation of Obamanomics - straight from their own mouths.

300 This Cutter woman (nomen est omen) is making it retract into my body cavity.

301 Does anyone else think Reactionary has a very small, and very limp, penis?

Posted by: Dumb_Blonde at August 09, 2012 02:44 PM (17FRN)

302 Oh, and you're wrong about the intent of that ad, it's not tryong to target women, it's really just a ratcheting up of the previous Joe Soptic attack on Romney and Bain Capital. They're trying to drive home to blue-collar white men that Romney is the guy that laid them off, or sent their job to China, or took over their plant and cut their wages, and he doesn't understand the misery he has left in his wake. I think Bill Burton might be genuinely surprised at the blowback on this ad, and he might actually believe it was not intended to imply that Mitt Romney killed Joe Soptic's wife. In other words, he fucked up with this ad, just as much as Obama fucked up with his "you didn't build that" speech.

303 occam - "Romney is not doing well he is not going to win even rasmussen shows that to be a fact".

Rasmussen has Romney up 4 and Romney hasn't even been able to spend his campaign cash. I have to hand it to Occam, however. Such a strong statement despite the absence of any facts.

I have never pondered the mysteries of his penis.

I stopped thinking about him when I realized that he is a fucking psychopath.

Totally agree.

They're not even competent enough to do class warfare right. Obama has zero managerial experience, with predictable consequences.

306 "Soptic's wife was white and female (presumably as to the former, required by the then-existing laws for the latter)"

I saw what you did there.

307 "Media Actually Bothered By Obama's Malignant Ad"

Isn't this where they pick some meaninglessside-issue to get all spun up about - something that doesn't matter?

Like when Obama bombed Libya without consulting Congress, "bombing some hapless arab country out of racism and lust for oil", ousting some dictator "who has the right to survive", all like the "evil dictator George W Bush", and they complained loudly and bitterly about how much itCOST -$1B (yes, with a "B", not a "T").

308 Hate to be late to the discussion, but if THIS is his best strategy, I hope he is working on that Speaker's Bureau contract, because he will need it in Feb 2013.

Being that his wife hasn't been pulling in the big buck, ya know.

309 Don't knock that voter turnout stuff. We had a Republican primary Tuesday here in Wichita for Sheriff, District Attorney and some judges and state legislatures that normally would not get more than 12-14%. Instead we got about 21% which is unheard of for a primary of this type.

310 Remember folks, we already know Ace has a giant crush on Rubio. After all, Rubio had to take out that restraining order on him in 2010.

311 I hope a Romney surrogate goes nuclear. Create an ad with a person identifed as an independent voter talking about all the jobs Obama has destroyed in the coal industry and in general. Hammer home the crushing debt and the indifference to individual accomplishment that is the hallmark of our Dear Leader. Bring up the lies and distortions surrounding Obama's gutting of welfare reform. Build these up to the election. A week before the election, release a reworked ad with the tagline: "We can't sit this one out. We can't take four more years of this."

In short, if they try to make people hate Romney, show them they can't afford that hate.

312 #251: Romney has supported Ryan's entitlement reform plan since the beginning; it's too late to worry about that being something that can be used to attack him. He already has been attacked for it. I don't think it'd hurt Romney to have the guy who can best explain the planon his ticket.

313 The dog on the car meme is definitely to drive white single voters away form Romney.

No matter how shitty a job a white woman has in the Obama economy, and how shitty her prospects are, she will still not vote for Romney because of the dog thing. [Im referring to the typical white female undecided/lean democrat voter]

314 Romney'12: Never ate Dog.

Posted by: toby928© at August 09, 2012 03:40 PM (evdj2)

315 I bet you anything that Obama never ate a dog, either. But having told the lie, he's stuck with it.

Posted by: sandy burger at August 09, 2012 03:49 PM (UwqBE)

316 Just wait until a pro-Romney Super PAC ad does some uncomfortable truth and the Obama team has lies that link the Romney team direct to it. They already have the press released typed just need the date and the Super PAC.

317 Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure.

Posted by: steevy at August 09, 2012 04:20 PM (6o4Fb)

318 The thing is I think more people have heard about the lies and how this ad was full of crap that saw the ad.

No matter how shitty a job a white woman has in the Obama economy, and how shitty her prospects are, she will still not vote for Romney because of the dog thing.

Yeah, dog lovers are REALLY dog lovers, and more than a few would consider the election a done deal based on that alone. He was mean to his dog, I'll NEVER vote for him!

319 I don't get this analysis. If O makes himself so disgusting in his ads by accusing Mitt of murder, that doesn't turn people off politics, it turns them off O. Nothing happens in a vacuum and Mitt will be running positive ads about himself simultaneously. Mitt is selling himself and not disgusting people.

Posted by: Aslan's Girl at August 09, 2012 06:00 PM (KL49F)

320 oh come on. the negative ads work and they have worked. obama has been running them non stop in battleground states. he's defined romney as a gordon gecko, the guy that fired ya, the reason why you are out of a job, the reason you lost your house, etc., and the people that don't follow politics, who are easily distracted by shiny things, well, they buy this crap. they see the sob story, the personal anecdote, and they feel sorry for the guy. romney's people have blown it by being too nice, naive, and by thinking that they can run ads saying things like, "i'll put people back to work,"etc. while obama's minions are painting a really decent man as the vulture capitalist incarnate. it's worked! we all knew obama would do this, so why wasn't the romney campaign prepared for it? why weren't they on the attack? why haven't they attacked first, hard, and blasted obama in the battleground states? why? because they are running a campaign against a clinton or an al gore. they don't get that smear is the name of the game now, and that obama will do anything to - lie, cheat, distort - hold onto power. just wait till obama gets done with a second term. you won't even recognize this country when he's done with it. and the republican establishment has no one to blame but themselves. they have a duty to save this country from the very damaging and dangerous ideology of this megalomaniac, and they have shirked their responsibility. i mean, this is the party of lincoln for christ's sake! this is the party that was started will the purpose of ending slavery, and they've allowed the leftists to turn them into the party of bigotry? wow...all i can say is...wow. what incompetence, and what a tragedy for this nation.

321 why didn't the romney campaign go find some people that have lost jobs and make an add of their own? where are the ads featuring GM dealers that lost their dealerships? where are they? where are the response ads that feature the details of how obama has been playing dirty politics since he first started? where is the ad that shows that obama is doing the same thing he did to his opponents in illinois? obama actually had the gall to leak divorce documents, and he even challenged the signatures of his opponents! hello! do an ad that shows, blow by blow, that is nothing new, and that this is what obama does...AND SPEND GAZILLIONS RUNNING THE ADS OVER AND OVER AND OVER IN BATTLE GROUND STATES. oh, but we don't want to "stoop to their level," and my personal favorite, "the truth is on our side." WELL THE TRUTH MAY BE ON YOUR SIDE BUT NO ONE IS GOING TO KNOW WHAT THE TRUTH IS UNTIL YOU TELL 'EM.
