| A Touching Moment At This Year's Democratic Convention: Jimmy Carter Will Pass The Torch Of Worst Post WWII President To Barack ObamaWith all the Democrats skipping Obama's renomination they must be desperate to fill the speaking slots. The Democratic National Convention Committee announced Tuesday that Carter would address the convention by video on Sept. 4. "A lifelong champion of human rights and investments in education and energy to spur economic development, President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama’s ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term," Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the 2012 convention chairman, said in a statement. In a statement, Carter said that he and his wife regretted not being able to attend the convention in person. "Rosalynn and I regret that we will be unable to be at the Democratic convention this year in Charlotte. However, we remain steadfast in our support for President Obama and the progress he will make in the next four years," Carter said. You know what will get America's mind off Obama's economic record and charges he's indifferent at best to Israel? Jimmy Carter. Of course Carter's appearance by video won't help with another problem Obama is going to face...no one is going to his big party. Obama, once the biggest draw in politics, won’t likely attract crowds as large as those at the 2008 convention because voters have gone sour on the poor economy, insiders said. “It’s always a concern about making sure there aren’t empty seats, but this is different,” said one Democratic official familiar with the convention plans. “This is a different time than four years ago. It’s a different convention. And the president is viewed differently.” The president will accept the party’s nomination on Sept. 6 in a Charlotte, NC, football stadium. that holds 80,000. “They’re worried they can’t fill the stadium,” the official said.Related Enough: I didn't think Mitt should invite Palin to speak at the RNC convention. She's a damned if you do, damned if you don't proposition. But, with the invitation to McCain to speak (a huge mistake), Romney has to invite Palin. Not doing so would be a slap in the face to a significant part of the party who loathes McCain (and at best, um, tolerates Romney) but loves her. Comments1
If James Buchanan were still alive, he could pass on the honorary title of worst president ever.

A former U.S. president is accusing the current president of sanctioning the "widespread abuse of human rights" by authorizing drone strikes to kill suspected terrorists. Jimmy Carter, America's 39 th president, denounced the Obama administration for "clearly violating" 10 of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, writing in a New York Times op-ed on Monday (June 25) that the "United States is abandoning its role as the global champion of human rights." When Rasmussen polled hooker's about their convention preference, the republicans won by 82-18. Republicans were viewed as financially stable, gentlemanly, and considerate of their part time employees. Democrats were rude, arrogant, and treated the girls with disdain because they never attended the Ivy League. They were also considered weird for asking the girls to play mommy, daughter, nun, and small boy. Posted by: Doctor Fish at August 07, 2012 11:55 AM (hvwLi) 101
The problem with the republican party is that we still have people who think like Drew. Regardless of whether Palin speaks at the convention or not, she'll still have a say in any policy after the election. All those senators and congressman who have been helped along the way by a Palin endorsement are going to listen when she takes a position. Another group of elected officials who are going to think twice about what she says arethose who are worried about being primaried in the next election. Keep doing your Mika Brezinski eye roll, Drew. Like it or not, Palin is relevant. Posted by: jwest at August 07, 2012 11:55 AM (ZDsRL) Posted by: entropy at August 07, 2012 11:56 AM (TULs6) 103

Carter opines on Romney not too long ago:
Asked for his thoughts on a Romney presidency in an interview Wednesday with MSNBC, Carter said that while "he'd rather have a Democrat," he would be "comfortable" with Mr. Romney as president because, as he put it, "I think Romney has shown in the past – in his previous years as a moderate or progressive – that he was fairly competent as a governor and also running the Olympics." He also complimented Romney as "a good, solid family man." Posted by: Jane D'oh at August 07, 2012 11:56 AM (UOM48) 105

I am actually willing to wager McCain will stay on script and go out of his way not to offend the party......for a change. Remember, all speeches are cleared through the campaign. Reports have been that McCain is chaffing a little from being ignored by the Romney campaign. So, the Romney campaign throws him a bone and lets him have a few minutes at the campaign. Its a 50/50 proposition that Romney wins. McCain does not want to be ignored by a Romney administration so my guess is he will be on his best behavior and do what he is told to do. Mitt strikes me as the type of guy that if McCain goes off script and pisses him off, he would not be as forgiving as W. All the Dems have to do is rent some of those cardboard cutout people that they use at the Oscars and other awards shows to fill any empty seats so it doesn't look bad when the camera does a sweep of the audience. Here are my takes on the conventions:
1. There are a lot of speaker slots to fill, so the fact that McCain gets one is no surprise, especially since he was the last candidate. 2. Completely understandable as to why they wouldn't want Bush to speak, but I doubt Bush wants to speak even if extended the invitation. It would go against his MO. That being said, there is still a big part of the party that likes and respects Bush. And it is the GOP convention. My suggestion would be that during the final night when Romney is formally nominated to have George and Laura offer a short video congratulations, along with 41 and Barbara, and finally with Nancy who can say something about how Ronnie would have supported Mitt and its time to get back to Reagan's conservatism. Something like that anyway, though I'm not sure about Nancy's health (or her mind). I think that would be highly appropriate, give reverance to the past GOP presidents without drawing unwanted attention to the Bush years. 3. Palin should speak and here is why. She brings people in. The people she turns off will not be watching this convention or voting for Mitt. If her appearance turns off certain GOP leaning voters, then why did we nominate Mitt in the first place. In any event, there is no denying she has a way of drawing an audience, we should use it. It makes for good TV. Let her introduce McCain, let her introduce Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio. Just let her speak. 4. To sum up my last two points, let's not let this convention get defined by who didn't speak or appear. There are ways to do it without making them the center of attention or overshawdowing Mitt. Posted by: SH at August 07, 2012 12:03 PM (gmeXX) 135

This is an inside baseball thing, huh? I've never watched a convention. I'm gonna vote for R nom whoever the hell it is. If this is the same bait-and-switch as the last two R presidents, I'm gonna give up and just buy an old missle silo. Posted by: Invictos at August 07, 2012 12:15 PM (OQpzc) 185
I hope they ask me to speak, because the Republicans really need to hear from my generation, and how going to Chick-Fil-A causes my gay friends to vote for Obama

Neilsen Rating Service looking at the ratings of every Palin Reality Television Show
Evidently not - Sarah Palin's Alaska was Discovery's most watched show ever (I know, kinda like being the tallest man in Mexico City, but its true) Regardless, somebody up there was saying something about everyone listening to Palin in the future - I disagree, I like Palin, but she is not a "thought leader" for the party. I am not saying she is dumb, I am saying she doesn't come up with ideas that are standards for the party. Paul Ryan is a thought leader. Newt Gingrich is. Romney isn't. Also, on Petraeus, I doubt he would want the job, and I wouldn't assume that just because he was in the military that he is a conservative. He has certainly never run for public office. I'm still holding out hope for McCain to repudiate himself in his speech. "I said we had nothing to fear from an Obama presidency. I was wrong, so wrong, and may God have mercy on me." ...or the night before the first debate. And if the debate got postponed so the Dems could wellstone St. Jimmah, Obama could do a video appearance at that event. That way, they'd both be video-eulogizing each other's careers. Bookend Teledouches. Posted by: 66chevelle at August 07, 2012 12:24 PM (QjSgY) 200
If Patraeus had actually won the war, he might be an attractive candidate.
If. Posted by: toby928© at August 07, 2012 12:11 PM (evdj2) Well Patraeus actually turned the "War" in Iraq around and put the US and it's Allies in a positive position until obama refused to even try to negotiate a "Status of Forces" Agreement to leave a stabalizing US force there, so the whole thing was for naught. So blame obama, not Patraeus. Posted by: Nevergiveup at August 07, 2012 12:25 PM (05RcU) 201

Let's put it this way...some neighbor"hoods" in Charlotte shot off fireworks the night their saviour was elected. There's enough Obama handout recipients in and around Charlotte to have a good selection of fainters on hand to fill seats if need be.
Um, yeah they aren't gonna have an empty stadium. Right now they're having trouble filling it trying to sell the tickets for $5 or something. But if they pay transportation costs there's no way they can't find 80,000 obamabots in a country of 350,000,000. No one's that incompetent. Posted by: entropy at August 07, 2012 12:43 PM (TULs6) 207
The White House and Treasury Department have consistently maintained that the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) independently made the decision to terminate the 20,000 non-union Delphi workers’ pension plan. The PBGC is a federal government agency that handles private-sector pension benefits issues. Its charter calls for independent representation of pension beneficiaries’ interests.
Former Treasury official Matthew Feldman and former White House auto czar Ron Bloom, both key members of the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry during the GM bailout, have testified under oath that the PBGC, not the administration, led the effort to terminate the non-union Delphi workers’ pension plan. “As a result of the Delphi Corporation bankruptcy, for example, Delphi and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation were forced to terminate Delphi’s pension plans, which means there are Delphi retirees who unfortunately will collect less than their full pension benefits,” Feldman testified on July 11, 2012. The emails TheDC has obtained show that the Treasury Department, not the independent PBGC, was running the show. Under 29 U.S.C. §1342, the PBGC is the only government entity that is legally empowered to initiate termination of a pension or make any official movements toward doing so. Isn't it just great how the media has become the genie in the bottle for the Democrats. They just opine something silly out loud and the media reports it as fact, makes it happen in their little imaginary world.

AP keeps covering for their boyfriend. Calling the BofA Stadium "a Charlotte, NC, Stadium" is like referring to where Obama lives as "his residence in Washington, DC"

Should never have allowed McVain to the convention.
And RNC should tell him no more TV shows. He is old news and a POS loser. People like him seeking 'compromise' is why our country is fugged. And his idea of compromise is usually 90% of where the Dems started negotiations. Posted by: Schwalbe: The Me-262© at August 07, 2012 01:39 PM (UU0OF) 214

unfortunately, the republican convention isn't shaping up much better. with old-school speakers like huckabee and santorum, we can expect to hear all about chicken sammiches and the advancing hordes of those icky homo-people, thereby cementing the notion that the R's arethe party of the "social issues"...and they're again' em. whatever became of the idea of sticking to the economy and barack's record ? sigh.
