American Crossroads Ad Eviscerates Obama (JWF)

Americans Crossroads is one of those evil super PACs affiliated with Karl Rove and they've been coming up with some nifty ads this campaign cycle. The media loves to portray the SCOAMF as some big sports fan, so it's appropriate they use a sports-themed ad to bludgeon him with here.

You'll notice a small scoreboard and clock at the bottom. The time remains at 11:06 throughout, just reminding you when election day is.

The rapid response of the PACs and Team Romney have Obama and his flying monkeys so off balance they just don't know how to react.

Sucks when you no longer control the narrative.

Funny thing is, Al Gore can actually claim to have been taken out of context because he did not actually say "I invented the internet" -- it was "I took the lead in inventing the internet" -- subtle difference in meaning and actual difference in context. I'm not defending Gore, I'm just pointing out that Obama's patently naked on this one. (Oh, the ugly, my eyes!)

This will happen again and again, this man can't speak w/out teleprompter. He needs to be spoon fed every line or he'll step in it.
Mitt doesn't seem intimidated at all by the SCOAMF unlike McCain who was so afraid of offending somebody he became ineffective.
The entire tone of this speech was Obama giving an impersonation of a black preacher, cadence, tone of voice, everything.
He loves to have the Amen responses, I think his staff believes it makes him relatable. Problem is most of the population doesn't respond to this at all.
He got into trouble because he was saying what the crowd wanted to hear and got exicited at thier response. He ran with it and stepped in it.
And yes he does believe this worldview that anyone w/money cheated somehow or isn't "spreading it around"
That's why this will happen again, several times before election.

I hope someone from the media asks Obama about this. We will then get to see if Obama truly believes in businesses. My guess is he only believes in businesses that support his ideology.

58 "If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don't
want you in the 1st Ward," Moreno told the Tribune on Tuesday.

Moreno stated his position in strong terms, referring to Cathy's
"bigoted, homophobic comments" in a proposed opinion page piece that an
aide also sent to Tribune reporters. "Because of this man's ignorance, I
will now be denying Chick-fil-A's permit to open a restaurant in the
1st Ward."

The alderman has the ideological support of Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

"Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values," the mayor said in a

fellow neighbors and residents. This would be a bad investment, since it

149 According to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, President Obama has widened his lead over rival Mitt Romney. He’s now six points ahead (49 to 43 percent nationwide), up from a three-point lead (47 to 44 percent) last month.
In the key swing states, Mr. Obama’s doing even better. NBC/WSJ has him leading by eight points in the top 12 battlegrounds.
This
is good news for the president. So why does it feel as if he’s in a
tougher spot than he’s been in for much of the campaign?

No, the really scary poll number for Obama is this one: Only 27 percent
of voters think the economy will improve over the next year. That’s down
eight points from last month. And that level of economic pessimism is
very dangerous for an incumbent.

I heard on a conservative-themed radio show this morning (Walton Johnson, out of Houston) that Bale refused to speak with reporters while he was there. If true, that doesn't sound like a PR stunt.

193 President Obama's never really faced serious competition before. Sure, he lost his first bid for national office in 2000, getting beaten by Bobby Rush for a US Congressional seat, but that was before young Obama caught the attention of Democratic Party kingmakers and big-money fundraisers, who saw in him a rising star. Since then, things have gone miraculously his way--if by 'miraculously' one means by way of the usual dirty tricks that serve the careers of most Chicago Machine politicians: the routine disqualification of his state office opponents of both parties, themagical unsealing of Jack and JeriRyan's sealed divorce records just prior to the IllinoisUS senatorial contest, and so on.

Now he's up against Romney, an increasingly strong candidate, and a no longer ineffectual RNC, well-funded, well-led,and fired up. The possibility he might actually lose this election is just now hitting home. For a narcissist like Obama, this is unthinkable. It's getting under his skin, stealing his sleep, making him increasingly angry, irritable, and petulant.

I say keep piling on. If this keeps up,his famous composure will crack and he'll have a meltdown on national television, ideally during the debates. Can't wait.

196 @188 "Obama claims he was taken out of context, and the ad doesn't show the context, it just shows the same thing everybody knows he said. I don't see how this can be very effective."

I agree that it has that flaw, but (sadly)ads can be effective even if they have flaws in logic. What they COULD have done is play the three parts of the tape where he said essentially the same thing three times:
1) "...if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own... 2) "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help...." 3) "If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen." Actually, you could count that last one twice, since the second sentence repeats the message.
But this is politics, not a courtroom, so repeating the same phrase might actually be more effective.

Well put. If you combine that with his deciding that he knows better than anyone on his team about anything, this may just be the first in a series of mistakes, as Obama's campaign unravels.

But will it EVERstart to show up in the polls? Is anybody out there? Do you care that the POTUS is a lying commie scumbag? Are we stuck on "You can't say anything negative because he's black (even though he biracial)"? Are we THAT stupid?

I'm hoping Ace and others are right about that whole 'preference cascade' thing. If enough people start to realize it's okay not to like the guy, that they're not evil racists for thinking he's an incompetent Left-wing ideologue and all-around lousy human being, then we've got a chance.

Expect to hear a great many more bigotry smears aimed at Republicans over the next few months. ABC's Brian Ross is representative of most of the MSM: they're absolutely desperate to associate Republicans in general and Tea Party conservatives in particularwith racism. They know what a preference cascade is, too, and want to do all they can to prevent it. If they manage to equate opposition to President Obama as inherently racist and racially motivated, they win.

200 "Gee, Chris, I dunno. Romney's opponent sucks a lot and I (for one) don't get tired of Republican candidates talking at length about the sheer magnitude of Obama's suckitude."

I don't mind it either, but we're voting FOR a president, not AGAINST one. Sooner or later Romney has to lay down the case for why he's better more than why his opponent is so awful.

If Jennifer Rubin is right that this "you didn't built it" is the tipping point, the rabbit attack/Dukakis in a tank moment, the cascade is already in motion. If its just a passing thing like the "Why so Socialist" posters or the Joe the Plumber moment... well we're screwed. Americans either cannot be reached or don't care that he's a socialist liar.

201 "I don't mind it either, but we're voting FOR a president, not AGAINST one. Sooner or later Romney has to lay down the case for why he's better more than why his opponent is so awful."

I guessright about now is when we find out if Romney's cautious, meticulous, no-blunder strategy is just a strategy or core to who and what he is. If it is, then we'll probably lose. Waiting for the other guy to screw up and self-implode may've worked in the primaries but it won't work in the general election, guaranteed.

"If you want to get involved in business," Sen. Orrin Hatch warned technology companies at a conference in 2000, "you should get involved in politics."
Hatch was referring to the shortcomings of then-software king Microsoft, which he had spent most of the previous decade harassing from his perch as Judiciary Committee chairman. The message was clear: If you become successful, you must hire lobbyists, you must start a political action committee, and you must donate to politicians. Otherwise Washington will make your life very difficult.

"Let not your heart be troubled", as one commentator likes to say.

First of all, you're wrong. As a practical matter, the choice is BETWEEN two major candidates.

More importantly, when one candidate is blatantly anti-American, while the other is not, that ought to be enough to push you the right way. Unfortunately, this is not enough for many. How many hard-core consevatives will simply sit out, having a hissy fit about some isolated pet issue, or eliminating Romney from consideration based on his religion?

So you're right, too. Some will need something to get off their butts and vote FOR. But on THAT subject, timing is essential. Many undecideds are just not paying a lot of attention right now. The optimal time to start sounding more like Ronald Reagan will come soon enough, and that will be the big make-or-break.

Everybody's going to be glued to the Olympics pretty soon, and won't remember much of what went on before it. This would be a good time for Romney to start really getting out there, because of his past very-successfulassociation with that event.

A message should follow sometime after that. Maybe around his actual nomination would be a good time. Certainly before the debates. But it would be wasted money falling on deaf ears right now.

Give the guy a break! How far did Obamanation get on the vacuous, meaningless phrase, "Hope and Change"? Selling "Hope" in the freest, most prosperous country the World has ever seen? You gotta hand it to him - it was like selling ice to eskimos...

209 "OK, I see we are getting today's concern-troll attack, which is 'When is Romney going to tell us what he is FOR???"

Rockmom, you're right I am concerned. I'm concerned that he can't get elected by only responding to attacks and tearing down the president. People don't elect a man because he sucks less than the other guy, they elect someone they want in that position.

I don't know when the ideal time is to start the presentation of how he'd be better - and given Romney's campaign they probably have it down to an exact second based on 12 years of computer modeling and demographic studies - all I know is they have to some time.

I like kicking Obama in the pills as much as the next guy. Its just not enough.

Optimizer has a good point about the Olympics (although I think he overestimates the interest level these days) so maybe the "convention is when it starts" is the right read. Certainly Romney faced a tough road: tear down a popular president that people are afraid to criticize because they don't want to be accused of racism.

212 In a way I kind of feel bad for President Obama. He really does think he's good for business and really thinks he wants to help them. He thinks that his policies are good for the economy and can't figure out why people are so opposed to it and attack him for it.

So I guess I don't feel bad for him after all.
