Wisconsin State Senate Majority is...

Democratic no more.

16-16-1 now, thanks to Senator Jim Cullen bailing out of the Democratic party.

Democrat John Lehman just barely defeated Republican Van Wanggaard in the June Mega-Recall, with results certified earlier this month and flipping control of the state senate to the Democrats.

After months of screaming, millions blown on recalls up and down the state, and boasting and yelling by every fist-icon-sporting lefty out there, the Democratic victory that was recalling Walker barely flipping the senate (when it isn't in session again until after the November elections which are likely to restore at least two seats to the Republicans) hit an iceberg today.

When the party regained control, Cullen, who had fled with the rest of the Democrats but was willing to work with Walker on reforms after returning to the state, was denied chairman status on any committee. He felt insulted, has walked, and the three-week-long Democratic majority is over.

Three weeks of non-control after tens of millions burned.

So long as Mr. Cullen remains a Democrat – even if he does not caucus with Democrats – it appears that the Democrats will formally hold onto control of the Senate.

There’s another factor, too, that appears to assure Democratic control: Another senator, Rich Zipperer, a Republican, is expected to resign the senate in August to work in the administration of Gov. Scott Walker, meaning that Democrats would widen their margin to 17-15. (A special election will be called to fill his seat.)

And California will shut it down for some threatened desert beetle. Nevada will get the desert beetle protestors from California but will likely proceed after 2 or so years of court cases. New Mexico won't be able to find anyone to invest.

...

Ok... I'll bite... that's a D+11 poll, D+12 without leaners.

I'll wager that we don't even see a D+10 split in the exit polls... I'll bet anything you'd care to that D+9 is the highest it could possibly go; you get D+10 and anything greater; including the D+12 poll you have here if they come to be even vaguely accurate.

Since this poll is terribly meaningful and useful you'll take that, right? Because the Democrats will have a wave twice the size of 2008 (D+7) and will overwhelm the 2010 results (D+0).

Since 2010 the Democrats have gained a TWELVE point advantage in the electorate... and you'll be willing to wager that this is correct, right?

Otherwise with a 2008/2010 split of say D+4 you've got 8 points tacked on, and a 6 point lead... which doesn't really look persuasive for your side winning by a large margin.
