Diane Feinstein (D-CA): Of Course Some Of The National Security Leaks Are Coming From The White House

I think everyone can agree this is treason. Of course, some will think it's treason against the US and others will think Feinsteinis the traitor for throwing the Obama administration under the bus. Tomato/Tomahto I guess.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said that although she is sure the president is not disclosing secret information to the public, she wasnt as sure about other White House staff.

I think the White House has to understand that some of this is coming from their ranks, she said at a World Affairs Council forum, according to AP. But on Obama, she said, I dont believe for a moment that he goes out and talks about it.

Not only is Feinstein a senior Senate Democrat she's also the Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Mitt Romney, in a burst of bi-partisanship, is set to pounce on this issue today in a speech to the VFW.

"Whoever provided classified information to the media, seeking political advantage for the administration, must be exposed, dismissed, and punished. The time for stonewalling is over," Romney will say, according to advanced excerpts released by his campaign.

...

"It is not enough to say the matter is being looked into, and leave it at that," Romney will say. "When the issue is the political use of highly sensitive national security information, it is unacceptable to say, 'We'll report our findings after Election Day.'"

To help back up his argument, Romney quotes Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, who said at an event Monday the leaks were coming from within the White House.

AEI compiled a list of the top 5 security leaks in the last year alone. Some people need to go to jail.

Of course the problem is...none of this leaking may be illegal. Clasification and declasification are purely executive functions. If the President, or someone he designates, says, "this is no longer classified" it's not illegal to release it. Of course there will be and should political hell to pay for that.

And if Obama is ultimately the leaker? Isn't the president the final arbiter of what is or is not a secret? I don't think there is any law we could charge him with breaking (assuming he was impeached and removed from office).

9 Describing the process for determining how an individual gets put on the White House "vaporize by UAV" list and who approves it is not treason. It's extraordinary that an American citizen who is not a uniformed combatant on a battlefield can be smoked in the first place. Only an extraordinarily rigorous process could overcome the Constitution's requirements.

I don't necessarily have a problem with this, but the process needs to be transparent, otherwise it's ripe for abuse, especially by the SCOAMF (and his loose-lipped minions).

But it turns off the independents, and the base is already pretty riled up.

No one wants to believe their executive branch is committing acts of treason (or, with our allies' info- acts of war against allied foreign powers) without some pretty convincing evidence. He'd have to be prepared to make this a National Security election, and that's one he's actually less likely to win than an Economics election.

53 It's one thing if the President declassifies the information first, and then allows his staff to make it public. I'm ok with the President being able to share previously classified information, or even engineer a leak. I don't see how the roles of CiC or Chief Executive could function without that prerogative.

It's quite different when someone else makes that decision, allegedly without the President's knowledge. Or when it's allowed to happen repeatedly without the President being required to take responsibility.

Believe me now and hear me later, most of these people are not that smart. It is just that Biden is particularly inarticulate and thick - tongued, and has been up there so long because the dunderheads in Delaware kept re-electing him.

And everytime I think some other state is full of dunderheads, I remember that Ohio elected and re-elected Howard Metzenbaum to the Senate for three terms. And the only reason he didn't run for a fourth term was that he thought he could palm the job off to his imbecileson-in-law, Joel Hyatt.

Much as I despise DiFi for a multitude of reasons, she's always approached the Senate Intelligence job with some small measure of apparent integrity. I have to give her that.

Same here. And compared to Boxer, she's a genius. Putting Boxer on the Senate Intelligence Committee would show the Dems reallyhave a sense of humor.

90 Putting Boxer on the Senate Intelligence Committee would show the Dems reallyhave a sense of humor.

Or a complete lack of appreciation for irony.

Donilon has plenty of foreign policy and national security experience, it's just that it's all bad.

Don't criticize him too much, or we'll get Jamie Gorelick in the job.

At least she's competent to make sure people don't learn things. Wasn't that what the "wall of separation" was all about?

93 Or they could have a Joint Intelligence Committee, with Boxer, Patty Murray, Hank Johnson, and Sheila Jackson Lee on it (other candidates?). You could see higher intellectual performance at the primate enclosure at the zoo.

Yeah, but the primary people who don't learn things are the ones who keep appointing her to responsible positions. After her star turn in the "wall of separation" and then Fannie Mae, all grown-ups in America flinch when they hear her considered for another position.

95 all grown-ups in America flinch when they hear her considered for another position.

True. But better someone who's fault is that she doesn't disclose information she should, rather than someone who's fault is that he doesn't know when to keep his trap shut.

At least in this particular position.

96 One side effect of the "investigation" into these leaks that is not being reported is that while ignoring the "big fish" the investigators are playing Hell with the "worker bees" in the defense/intel community as they valiantly search for a nonexistent leaker. The result being that the community's work is grinding to a halt as data calls are met and workers and middle management fixate on CYAs.

Not exactly what we need in the national security area right now.

100 Feinstein and the Administration had a falling out over the Senator getting robbed blind by that fraudulent-fraudulent Democrat fundraiser, and over Kamala Harris for CA Attorney General. Feinstein preferred someone other than a female Trotsky.

101 Inveterate security leaker and first class blabber-mouth Feinstein should heed her own advice.

102 We didn't need Sen. Sherlock Feinstein to figure this one out.

103 Yet if I divulge anything information about my job I can be fired, prosecuted and fined under violation of HIPAA laws.

Leak classified information about the United States? Piffle. You get a pass.

Fuckers.
