| Top Headline Comments 7-17-12Happy Tuesday. Reactions to Obama's stupid "you didn't build that" comment: Rep. Paul Ryan had a lot to say. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus: "Says a lot about Obama's big govt philosophy." The Romney campaign says Obama's insults to business owners "reflect just how unqualified he is to lead us to a real economic recovery." A Chamber of Commerce blogger was more measured: "the basic idea behind all of these comments is really objectionable and offensive." There was no official statement from the Chamber.* The National Federation of Independent Businesses (the group that sued over Obamacare) hit the right note in an official statement: “His unfortunate remarks over the weekend show an utter lack of understanding and appreciation for the people who take a huge personal risk and work endless hours to start a business and create jobs." *UPDATE: I'm told that the Chamber post was written by the Chief Operating Officer, so it's "pretty official."Comments1
Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, July 17, 2012. On this day in 1203 The Fourth Crusade captured Constantinople by assault. The crusade was supposed to free Jerusalem from the muzzies but they wanted this city more. This served to weaken Christian city-states in the near-east and helped the muzzies.

Business groups slam the ego-meister over his idiotic comment about successful people having help from the government to get where they got. It is not surptising that the SOB thinks this way though. In Chicago and Obama’s world people to get help from the government. It is normally called corruption. Obama has brought it to the White House with his version of crony corruption. A Republican would have already been impeached and would be in jail.

Shades of Hugo Chavez. CA cities eye new plan to nationalize mortgages in some bizarre scheme to alleviate troubled real-estate. If allowed to proceed, and knowing the 9th circuit it will, this will take Kelo to new extremes. As I have said many times, we have passed being a socialist country and are now entering the end phase in becoming full on communist.

Iowa Representative Steven King outflanks stupid animal rights shitheads in CA. They passed a stupid law in CA which required chickens to be housed in larger cages than the industry standard. A move clearly designed to make it more expensive to raise chickens (taking a clue from the stupid eco-green-commies). But they went one further and required that all farmers shipping eggs to CA had to meet the same standards. This they can not do. The amendment to the farm bill squashes this requirement. King deserves kudos for this move.

Though few may have ever heard of the Republic for the United States of America, the alternative government was revived by activists starting in 2010. Shannon said it now has representatives in all 50 states. However, it's unclear what changes Republic leaders can make since they have no seats of power in a formally recognized government.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Thanks, Vic and Gabe, for the headlines. BTW, don't bother reading the comments at the Paul Ryan link; the stupid is epic.
Today in 1916, the film Purity was released by the Mutual Film Corporation. Starring Audrey Munson, a model also known as "The American Venus," it was her second movie, as well as being the second in which she appeared totally nude (her first, Inspiration was earlier in the year). The plot, like each of her four movies, casts her as an artists' model in order to get her clothes off. In 1919, Munson was living in a New York boarding house, whose owner fell in love with her, murdering his wife so he could ask for Munson's hand. Although Munson had moved out before the murder, the publicity essentially killed her film career, and she was reduced to being a door-to-door saleswoman. In 1922, she tried to commit suicide, but was unsucessful. Drifting into schizophrenia and paranoia, she wassent to the St. Lawrence Hospital for the Insane in 1931 and was confined there until her death in 1996. All of her films were considered lost, but a print of Purity wasdiscoveredin France in 2004. It is not available for public viewing. If you are in New York, she was the model for the Isidor and Ida Straus Memorial in Straus Park. She is also immortalized as the female mounted over the proscenium at the New Amsterdam Theatre on West 42nd Streetand was the model for Lady Liberty on the 1916 half dollar. So now that we've established nudity and sex at the beginning of the movies, here, from 1936,are three of screenwriter Gene Fowler's Ten Commandments for the Motion Picture Industry: FIRST COMMANDMENT: Thou shalt not photograph a lady and gentleman in bed together, even though said lady and gentleman have been properly introduced, one to the other. Thou mayst try it, but thou wilt get theyself into one hell of a jam. In the wicked city of Chicago, minions of the law did break in and find one buckaroo in such aforesaid state with two ladies of blonde extraction and he did cry out that he learned such trick from the movies. To wit that such scenes are hereby deemed subversive of the public morals. SECOND COMMANDMENT: Thou shalt avoid rape as the pestilence and shalt not show the villain having his foul way with the fair of our land, lest it giveth idea to the gentler sex and causeth consternation in the American scene. THIRD COMMANDMENT: Thou shalt not photograph the wiggling belly, the gleaming thigh or the winking navel, especially to music,as goings-on of this ilk sorely troubleth the little boys of our land and so crammeth the theaters with adolescence that papa cannot find a seat. Hope you all have a wonderful day. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at July 17, 2012 07:36 AM (zF6Iw) 55

It's first lines from online search (w/o connecting to unknown sites) seem to represent a coalition towards legitimately effecting originalist Constitutional Governance, at least an organization providing like minds to relate as such. On first glance, it would be a special interest group working within the framework of our common US Constitution that protects their means to effect an American renaissance of industrious Liberty and prosperity without parasitic monopolization. You can still stand up and pee in a toilet. The problems is that you only have so much room for heads, even on an aircraft carrier. Toilets take up a lot more space than a urinal and since peeing occurs a lot more than shittng, the available toilets will be be even more crowded.
And here is another problem I bet they haven't allowed for. Toilet paper was always in short supply on our carrier. Women need toilet paper when they pee, men don't. Posted by: Vic at July 17, 2012 07:56 AM (YdQQY) 76

Listening to the Obama speech again I can see how they could say he
didn't mean, "You didn't build the business," but instead, "You didn't build the roads, etc..." They may mean that, but it still doesn't fly. no one has ever said we shouldn't pay taxes to fund roads, police, etc. What most people object to is paying extra taxes to fund someone else's life. Most people understand the need for welfare as a temporary measure, just not as a lifetime benefit. Posted by: Zombie John Gotti at July 17, 2012 07:59 AM (Gkhxf) 78

Conservatives never bitch about funding roads, police, and fire etc. Those are not socialist programs, they are infrastructure. We will bitch about unions giving those people golden retirements well in excess of what civilian people get though. But overall, conservative object to socialism spending. And what do liberal mayors want to cut first every time they get in trouble and people oppose raising taxes again? Re the new femi-carriers, why not just make someall-women combatships? Better for everyone. Women get to have a taste of shooting war, which apparently they really crave. Men will nothave to see women getting burned up, shot to peices, etc. during the battle, which they would find distracting. When an actual war starts, the female sailors will find it more difficult to get pregnant and avoid service in combat, or at the very least it will only incapacitate a few ships. Then, when an all-women ship finally goes down to the deep with massive loss of life, as sometimes happens in wars, America will have an incident sufficiently grim to bring some adult-level clarity to our thinking on the matter.
Separate but equal - it's the best solution in this case. Posted by: Reactionary at July 17, 2012 08:10 AM (xUM1Q) 89

You don't have to all the way to libertarian cloud-cuckoo-land to find rational and (possibly) workable arrangements for "public goods" like roads, fire protection AND SCHOOLS to be user-funded. Getting from here to there is another story.
Every year in high school we'd be herded into our Patriotism! assembly, and warned in no uncertain terms that we were going to owe the system, big-time and for life, for this wonderful education we were receiving absolutely free of charge. They would get a chorus of the Nice Kids to sing "No Man Is An Island." Many of us left that one muttering. I walked out once. If you asked a teacher ("teachers' union delegate") what would happen to you if you declined the honor of free education, they'd point out that jails were taxpayer institutions, too. Lest you not know exactly where you stood. We used to have a bitter little joke. "Sure, there's such a thing as a conservative Democrat. It's called a fascist." GOP being then as now the Party of Stupid, always tried to maneuver to the right of them by calling for stricter dress codes, because bow-ties and pants cuffs would build more character. And that's how we got where we are now. Later: I have to get off the government-provided airwaves now, a bundle of which costs me $120/month. Posted by: comatus at July 17, 2012 08:17 AM (ZOlM3) 99

WASHINGTON (AP) — One of the country's oldest civil rights groups says President Barack Obama may have a tougher time winning at least three battleground states in November should black voter turnout fall at least 5 percentage points below the record levels that helped to put him in the White House.Black voter turnout of 64.7 percent was a significant factor in Obama's victory in 2008, and African Americans
are considered solidly behind Obama now. But having achieved the milestone of electing Obama as the nation's first black president, black voters may be less motivated to return to the polls in droves again, the National Urban League said in a report to be released Tuesday. She may well like Ron Paul, but is not acting as he within the Republican Party to "Restore America Now". Just as Ron Paul has receded from his potus (and final) campaign for elected office, he's pushing towards this month's vote empowering Congress with full authority to completely Audit the Federal Reserve, H.R. 459. Constantly repeating "nut" harms the means at hand to stabilize and invigorate the US economy. What, alinsky just can't help himself? Don't keep the Federal Reserve autonomous. And so it goes. Never once do the School boards say, "Well, sorry, Admins, those increased budgets you wanted? They're gone. How about you take a pay cut?" It's fair to say that President Barack Obama, while sitting next to First Lady Michelle Obama, was more interested in his wife at the time the Kiss Cam found those two on the scoreboard during Monday night's Team USA Men Basketball exhibition match against Brazil. And, unfortunately for the POTUS, he whiffed as a result. Watch: It's only awkward if you know it's happening. Because the couple wasn't actually watching the scoreboard at the time, their response is just another instance of the President and First Lady acting as if they know just about every eye in the building is on them (as it's been since, say, 2004 or so), but not knowing that EVERY eye plus a TV audience was on them. Too much court awareness, President Obama, and not enough scoreboard novelty awareness. I guess the laser like focus on the economy includes goofing off at basketball games. The Fed does not have the power, nor should it, to limit the spending authorized by Congress. This is an overblown concern that distracts from the real problem - spending choices madeby the elected legislature. Personally I think a lot of the heat Ben B. gets is unwarranted. No the "fed" isn't printing money, treasury does that, but printed money is miniscule. What the fed is doing is buying t-bills from treasury at low interest rates in order to finance thisd huge deficit spending we have.
That is, in effect, printing money because one wing of government is creating a piece of paper that another wing is buying. The fed is also (or was) buying worthless debt from places like CA by buying their bonds. That creates even more money. And no, the Democrats do not want the fed to be audited. And keep in mind, this is exacly how Obama's heroes FDR and LBJ took care of the huge debt problem. He printed money, sparking inflation, which meant the government paid back worthless money to investors. It is called "monetizing the debt". It is what every socialist country does when they spend more money than they can ever repay. Argentina did it and when tits up. It will not be long before we go tits up. Posted by: Captain, Road Prison 36 at July 17, 2012 08:46 AM (BAnPT) Bail outs of foreign sovereigns,in USdollars, reinforce the dollar as reserve currency whilereturning liquidity to the system. It's not ideal, but it's not the end of the world. Whereas if Europe goes into a true depression, the fallout will be very unpleasant.Nobody wants that, because we'll see capital destruction on an unprecendented level. The Fed participates, because it has limited options. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. The Fed knows that if Congress gets pissed off enough crazy things can, and will, happen. The Fed has to play ball, and try to manage the situation to the best of their ability. Will the banksters make more money? Yup. But guess what - that's a tale as old as time, and just part of life. May as well get used to that. As for Congress auditing the Fed, to what end? For what purpose? They already know what's going on. Who profits by turning over that rock? It's just one more thing that will stir up uncertainty and worry and further erode investor and consumer confidence. Congress can audit all they like for all I care. But I'd rather they keptthe resultsto themselves. It's like these foolish wranglings over the mythological "debt ceiling." It's a sham, and a waste of time. Great statement by Paul Ryan on Obama's statist views in regards to building a business:
"Hiscomments seem to derive from a naive vision of a government-centered society and a government-directed economy. It stems from an idea that the nucleus of society and the economy is government not the people. … It is antithetical to the American idea." Yep. One other ting to keep in mind about the fed. Before the initial "stimulus" scam was done by congress and Obama the fed dumped $600B into the system with "created money" to the banks for "liquidity". That wasn't enough so they dumped another $300B.
That's how stimulus was able to use their money for just another round of Democrat socialism spending. That's OK for stimulating hookers, blow, and liquor stores but doesn't do much for the economy as a whole. Posted by: Vic at July 17, 2012 09:03 AM (YdQQY) 146

If we are going to monetize the debt, as it appears we are going to do, wouldn't it be better to just have the treasury create the money? When the Federal Reserve buys to debt, we get the money, but we are also obligated to repay it. So we get inflation and debt, instead of just inflation.
Unless we just plan on doing a cram down on the Fed. Am I seeing this correctly? Posted by: toby928© at July 17, 2012 09:07 AM (QupBk) 151

Pre war Germany here we come. (I hope we get the sleezy, fetish bars with uniforms too!)
Posted by: catman at July 17, 2012 09:00 AM (NYdB Different scenario. Weimar's problems came from owing war indemnity debt in gold, and at abusive terms. They had to print money to buy gold. The cost of gold in Marks would go up. Then they'd have to print more, to buy more gold, which would go up again in response, and so on. All that gold then left Germany for France, England, etc. It was a spiral from which there was no escape. Eventually they hit the reset button, but the massive cultural and economic damage had already been done. A lesser culture would have been permanently wrecked. The deficit numbers are big (too big) but given that this is a balance sheet recession much of the inflationary effect is mitigated. Not all, but much. We have a huge amount of unused capacity in this nation - especially labor. The government can consume it without competing with the private sector. Also, if you want a balanced budget (or nearly balanced) right now, consider our choices. They are as follows: 1. Massive spending cuts, followed by destruction of capital (many firms go out of business do to loss of consumption), more massive unemployment, and eventually riots. 2. Massive tax increases, followed by the economy tanking as consumption takes another hard hit and companies flee the US. 3. Some inflation. Maybe "high" inflation. If you are working, that will probably translate into a compensatory wage hike. If you own productive assets, you will get a higher price to cover inflation. If you are just hoarding cash you'll get spanked. If you have all fixed-income investments, you're hosed. Posted by: Reactionary at July 17, 2012 09:11 AM (xUM1Q) 158

Posted by: Vic at July 17, 2012 09:12 AM (YdQQY) I agree re monetizing debt, but with respect, how do you hide massive inflation? I'm told food is up, though I've not seen it. I pay the same price for meat and fruit and canned soupthat I paid 4 or 5 years ago, and milk has only gone up a moderate amount since then. But assuming food IS up -why not? Wehave increased standards of living in the 3rd world, since that's where all the jobs went. They eat more meat, thus less cheap food. Russia's wheat fields burned up a few years back and they went from exporting massiveamounts of wheat to a total export ban. Australia's wheat got flooded out a couple years back. Gas is way up - but why is that a shocker? India and China are using more and more, the Gulfis STILL largely in shut down mode, and the new sources of oilare mostlylow-flow-rate deposits. Nat gas is at record lows, so low they're shutting down capacity to restore profitability. Right now, I contend that the price increases we see are mainly due to supply and demand. Not money supply increases. Posted by: Reactionary at July 17, 2012 09:21 AM (xUM1Q) 180

#179 Reactionary, I don't know where you shop, but food has been climbing for some time. I will give you some examples from my local Kroger:
Head lettuce sale price is now $1.09 on sale. The feature price used to be 99 cents. You can hardly buy a box of cereal for under $3.00 Bacon is $4.99 a pound, and at one point earlier this year it was 6.99/lb. Peanut butter, store brand, SALE price $2.50 for 8 ounces. You can still hold your food budget down if you skimp on luxuries, buy only seasonal produce and sale meats, and buy store brands or use coupons. I have seen young couples in the cereal aisle trying to figure out if they can afford a box of cereal for their toddler. Produce is going up because of the drought and the exchange rate making imports higher. The food pantries here have started asking for more donations due to the prices. So yes, food prices are going up. Posted by: Miss Marple at July 17, 2012 09:29 AM (GoIUi) 205

EVERYTHING goes in cycles. That's life. My grandparents and parents endured the Great Depression. We'll endure ours with what we persist in revitalizing intact. Pertaining to patience, recall Job. Though insisting his righteousness should have saved him from his plights that he didn't "deserve", he never denounced faith to overcome by the grace of God even if vindication would require reaching his next lifetime. History/experience is a fine teacher, but fools will learn by no other. Given our Constitutional Government, we need not waste precious effort "rediscovering" the wheel with Forbes' proposed constitutional convention. While refurbishing our DOMESTIC infrastructure for energy and commerce, our economy will improve, speed dependent upon degree of taxation (less is more), empowerment of grassroots, and nipping off parasitic authoritarian bureaucracy. I would be heartened were Mitt Romney to at least organize such domestic spearheading as Eisenhower accomplished after WWII to economically recover from that decades endured Great Depression subsequent to the 1929 crash that kept recurring during the four FDR/Truman Democrat administrations including WWII and the Korean UN War still simmering beneath the "cease fire" forged by Eisenhower. Given Ike's presidency, Americans finally were no longer literally living on government issued rations, and the returning veterans made their "boom" impact substantially developing America's economic growth. Dependence upon the congressional military industrial complex leads to our own suffering, excepting those whose jobs are to manufacture and sell war. And yes, it takes all sorts coordinated towards maintaining independence. Posted by: Captain, Road Prison 36 at July 17, 2012 09:29 AM (BAnPT) 206

Posted by: toby928© repeats himself endlessly at July 17, 2012 09:16 AM (QupBk) You might be right, but I'm not convinced it has to be some biblical-scalechastening.Our puritan heritage makes us think interms of atoning for our sins, but that's bunk when it comes to economic policy. Much of the "money" out there in the system was generated by the QE asset swaps that were made in order to recapitalize the banks. If there is ever a recovery, those assets will go back to the banks and the cash will return to the nothingness from whence it came. This will encourage banks to recapitalize via deposits, and as the economy gets better and rates rise people will once again have a reason to put money in bank accounts. That need to create more reserves will help drain the excess from private hands, mitigating inflation. As I see it, the main inflation risk is not the volume of money, but the velocity. If things get better, velocity will pick up. If that happens it will be important to pull back reserves and begin to raise rates, so that it is manageable and doesn't create some wild swing. Govt spending must also be slashed when the economy picks up, so we better have a majority by then. Tax revenues will go up, because the govt taxes every damn transaction that happens in this nation, so that will offset the deficits somewhat also, and will act as another cash-drain / brake. It doesn'thave to be horrible coming out of this. Posted by: Reactionary at July 17, 2012 09:31 AM (xUM1Q) 211

You should always open it anyway. Many years ago I went down to my bank to pull some money out of my emergency savings account. The bank said the account never existed. If I hadn't threatened them with massive legal action and refused to go away they would never have found my account on microfiche and discovered an embezzling scheme by one of the bank officers. I was working as a musician at that time and that officer had actually come by the house to "tell me about the banking services available". He assumed my savings account was drug money or unreported income and I'd never say anything. He tried a variation of the same theme with many customers--disappearing accounts that might be part of a tax dodge or whatever. I got him busted and he went to jail. It doesn'thave to be horrible coming out of this.
It doesn't have to be horrible, but it will have to be bad. Like a junkie giving up the horse, withdrawal from cheap money and borrowed prosperity may not be fatal, but it must, by nature, be painful to be effective. The burned hand teaches best. Otherwise, things pickup a bit and our "leaders" give in to pressure from the cheese-eaters and we go back down. Trying to engineer a soft landing gets us Japan 1990-, with even more debt and more danger than they face. Posted by: toby928© repeats himself endlessly at July 17, 2012 09:38 AM (QupBk) 228

I must admit I have not studied it in detail since it came up at one point back in the 90's when I decided it was, on balance, a bad thing. I have since forgotten the details. Support seems to boil down to 'having a seat a the table' when decisions are made regarding use of the sea. And this will be good for Lockheed and other companies who are interested in seabed mining. Also supposed to be good for naval navigation. (I didn't know we were having a problem with that.) (The seat seems to be working out for us nicely at the WTO or not.) Hmm. Well, that does suck. I don't buy much bacon, but I have noticed it's up. Never $6 a pound here or even close, but it's up. Cereal here is pretty cheap, but then again I live in the cereal capital of the US. I buy things like boneless chicken breasts, which are cheaper per pound than ever - $2 usually.Chicken meat withbones in itusually runs me about $1 per pound. Most pig meat I buy I get for between $1.5 and $1.9 per pound. Loins, ribs, mostly. Big soup cans are about a buck each - technically that's a sale price, but they're always on sale. Fruits of various types cost me about $1 per pound. That said, I still fall back on my prior statement - supply and demand are more significant to food costs than is the money supply. Most of the new money is chasing stocks and bonds, not food. The rich can only eat so much. The Chinese are eating more pork. Phillipinos are eating more pork and beef. It's a common theme that diets are improving. Our farmers are major exporters now, even as the dollar continues to hold its own against foreign currencies. This year's crop destruction will make things even worse. Posted by: Reactionary at July 17, 2012 09:45 AM (xUM1Q) Posted by: s u n s h i n e at July 17, 2012 09:45 AM (oZfic) 244

I'm not for encouraging it. In fact, I'm all for the government getting out of the business all together. Government sucks at it. Liberals like to outsource charity, that way they never have to look at it. Conservatives prefer the Burkean "little platoons" approach - mostly because it works. You'll get less dysfunction when you have to be personally accountable to someone, and that comes from one-on-one contact with people who need help. I'm all for charity at the local level at the smallest unit possible. Churches do a better job at this, but I do not mean to imply they're the only ones who can or should undertake these programs. This is the saem shit that has been going on for over a year now. The MFM is not reporting it but people are learning about it via other methods. In fact, Thomas Sowell has a column up about it at NRO today. The problem is that the Democrat administrations running the urban centers don't care about this behavior, and in a lot of cases encourage it. Just one more indication of the impending collapse of urban America. When stores are unable to obtain insurance in these areas and close their doors maybe they will learn. But probably not. We keep talking about how the libs always threaten to cut police, fire and teachers if they can't raise taxes.
So, why aren't we working on proposals to decouple the revenue for police, fire and teachers from the general fund? You know, say a local resolution that requires that 95% of all property tax revenue (and/or sales tax--whatever is sufficient to fund them at the level five years prior) go to such. Which would force them to fund their bloat through other taxes and they couldn't hold us hostage whenever they wanted more money. Also, we need to put forth proposals to prevent the revenue from traffic tickets being used for funding--say, no ticket shall be more than one day's wages at minimum wages. I think we need to start having some sort of a ranking system for high schools like we do for colleges--a ranking based on drop-outs, how many go on to college, how many have full time employment 12 months after graduating, and a huge hit for the number that are in jail 12 months after graduation.
Let the public know just how badly the "public education" model is failing at providing any public education. Of course, first we'd have to get laws in place making such info public because as soon as it is, the teacher's unions will do everything, including strike, to prevent it from becoming known. 'Cause the point I'm making is public high schools are one of two things--a publicly subsidized college prep course or a publicly subsidized day care for future criminals. They are not graduating very many who could be hired for anything other than fast food. Posted by: RoyalOil at July 17, 2012 10:46 AM (kSaUf) 354

There's a microcosm of the current US situation going on in my office. I work for a very small family owned firm. Over the last two years, we've shed half our employees due to a downturn in business. The patriarch of the firm spent over 40 years building the business and earning a good reputation. The son took over and, without going into detail, within three years he burnt that to the ground. The son is now out of the business and is blaming everyone but himself for the horrible things that he did. The father, who was looking forward to enjoying the retirement he spent a lifetime savings towards, is now working 60+ hours per week in an attempt to undo the damage. I can't help but think of this every single time I hear the SCOAMT talking. Person A spends a lifetime earning things, Person B considers it his birthright and blows it all and then Person A is left picking up the pieces.

London’s iconic black cabs are being excluded from the 30 miles of games lanes, which have been reserved for Olympic competitors, officials and sponsors. Dubbed “Zil lanes” by critics, they come into force on Wednesday next week. Drivers who transgress face a Ł130 fine. The restrictions will ban drivers from the lanes, making journey times across the capital longer and dearer for passengers. Posted by: Sean Bannion at July 17, 2012 10:15 AM (sbV1u) First off, I stated no specific policy above, so you are assuming what my solution is. But let's take the worst case things you've assumed - at least I can offer a solution, and frankly my solution is damn humane compare to what lies ahead. For the record, if it were up to me we'd have mandatory workfare (unpleasant jobs that do not compete with the private sector), and mandatory (reversible) sterilization prior to getting any benefits other than unemployment. Plus a lifetime max payout. Get at the root of the problem - stop making more of them. I have yet to see anything proposed by the damn do-gooders that will do anthing but make the problem worse. Sure - local charity. Good stuff, and worthy. Yet totally inadequate to meet the needs of the current horde of underclass. This problem was created by the state, and unless we are willing to see mass starvation it must be fixed by state policy. My policy is humane. All others are not. Re the urinal discussion.
Cleaned and inspected many a head in my day. From experience, urinals have a chemical reaction where salt water and stagnant urine form a rapidly growing calcium like deposit, usually in the drain line going away from the urinal to the CHT system. Hydroblasting of ships CHT systems every two years or so ran into the millions of dollars fleetwide. PMS was developed that required daily inspection of urinals for flow reduction. Thousands of dollars were expended developing citric acid based powder packets, and pisser breath mints to reduce the formation of these deposits. Switching to the multi-million dollar vacuum CHT and flush system did reduce some of the formation, at huge expense. Shitters, due to greater water flow, do not suffer the problem to anywhere near the same extent. We will survive the loss of urinals. 449....Union workers are going to have to wise up. They should be demanding audits of their Pension accounts.....all of them, all across the country. Union bosses have been donating millions to the Dems. Where do they take that money from? Posted by: wheatie at July 17, 2012 11:50 AM (MbB0O) 473

Just read through "Mitt take the gloves off" thread.
Reminded me of a complaint I had about Mitt in the primaries, that it seemed that Mitt had hired a bunch of shitstained weasels from the McCain campaign. The guys who have no problem fighting dirty against Republicans but piss themselves out of a complete wardrobe whenever any Dem anywhere says "Boo." One of those, I fear, is the Patrick Haynes formerly of the now-defunct Ankle Biting Pundits and briefly of RedState. That's the guy who hired on the the McCain campaign after IA to help McCain pretend to be conservative to win NH. When he was on his own, Patrick was dead-set against amnesty, then McCain shook a bag of coins in his face. The guy's pretty much disappeared since then but . . . . He's also worth a bajillion dollars, so it's not like he has to work. EOJ, next time just get out of the car, walk up to whatever clown is perturbing you, look them up and down, and then spit on their shoes. If they follow past experience, all that will happen is a hissy fit--but DO be ready. If the person does nothing but screech, you know you OWN the asshole. How you use the ownership is up to you. CBD, it could have been just for the meat. I'm not a huge lobster fan but if I had seen prices of $6 a pound I probably would have brought home a few crates!
For what it's worth, the signs also advertised crabs, clams and mussels "at market price". I guess you had to stop in to find out what that price was. Posted by: Damn Sockpuppet at July 17, 2012 11:56 AM (YmPwQ) 488

I was unwinding and watching a Nazi Occult documentary on the Military Channel. During the breaks, they were advertising that they would be showing the on-air fellatio of Brian Williams about the Greatest Act of Heroism EverAccomplished By a President. Bamster should have waited until October 2011 to have killed the Bin Laden.
Guys, I'm concerned about the military--I checked out the Air Force Slimes during my UTA this weekendand saw the headline that the military vote could swing the election. There should be no question about the military vote (except for the blacks). I used to think that there were like-minded men who cared about the Republic in the ranks, who would engage in an overthrow of the government before allowing it to be led by a tyrant. I would think there would be no question in their minds about the way to proceed...I fearthe transition we worried about in the 1990s is complete. If Romney shouldwin, he should conduct a Stalinesque blood purge of theflag ranks. Posted by: Big Fat Meanie at July 17, 2012 12:09 PM (Ec6wH) 499

"They were in the hot sun losing money and I was having a blast at work. That gave me lol."
I enjoy the occassional strikes the union workers will stage at my place of employment every so often. The parking is great. And the home-made signs, though few in number, are ironic-comedy-gold. Which is probably why the union usually forces everyone to use the pre-printed (union labor, natch) signs. I am only sad that I do not have any production prior-experience to offer as a temporary worker. If I get called-in to fill a job from the strike, I'll probably get something in Sanitation. Which I would still do proudly, I will say. I'd hate to be the one to break it to the union guys, but every time the strike, they only galvanize the rest of us as anti-union. "Maybe the navy needs to invest in Chlorox tablets..."
I'm sure they would love to use something as easy and effective as that. Care to be the first to tell all the tree-huggers that the entire Navy fleet now flushes Clorox back into the oceans every time someone in the crew takes a leak? The reason they blow tons of money into researching "citric acid powders" isn't because they never heard of Clorox. It's because whatever they ultimately use needs to be completely inert from a biological standpoint within a reasonable period of time, or they wind up with a massive PR nightmare. I mean, they are currently getting hated on for "deafening the poor whales" with sonar, fur fuck's sake...
