| Someone Has To Post It...Drudge: Condi Rice Leading Choice To Be Mitt's VPEither Team Romney wants to change the subject from false Bain attacks to false VP picks or Drudge is trolling for hits (they aren't mutually exclusive in reality) so here's the "hot" rumor. Here's why there's ZERO chance of this happening. -Rice is "mildly pro-choice". Is that like being "a little pregnant"? Do you really think Mitt wants to reopen the discussion about his views on abortion? -She spent 8 years as one of George W. Bush's closest foreign policy advisers. Does anyone really believe that Romney wants to rehash the political fights over Iraq right about now? -She has ZERO elected political experience. If this is Team Mitt trying to change the subject...good for them. Maybe they can get the media chasing squirrels for awhile. Update: That didn't take long. Romney source, "no Condi".CommentsPosted by: Romeo13 at July 12, 2012 08:34 PM (lZBBB) 2

More so... it lets Obama level the charge that Romney IS George Bush... and his team... so he runs against Bush... not Romney.... It would be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, IMO. Posted by: Romeo13 at July 12, 2012 08:35 PM (lZBBB) 5

This whole rumor about Condi Rice got started by Bill Kristol. He was on Hannity a couple of nights ago....and admitted it. Hannity pointed out, that he, Kristol, had been the one who first talked about Sarah Palin for VP....and that turned out to be true. But Kristol said...."Yeah, but this is different."....and said that he was just thinking out loud. Posted by: wheatie at July 12, 2012 08:36 PM (MbB0O) 9

I like Condi Rice personally, but I will not vote for anyone pro abortion or even alittle pro abortion. Also, if Condi wanted enter politics, we needed her in 2008. She should have been the first African American president. Not this incompetent. Christie and Rubio would be 100 percent better.

My only reservation with Jindal is that I think if a miracle happens and Romney does the right things then there won't be enough time to the country to recover by the 2016 election and he'll either have to vow not to run or he'll get creamed. And I wouldn't want Jindal to be tainted by that.

More interviews like the one featured here yesterday, where he shows his erudite and thoughtful side will only help. He's an up and comer in the GOP farm system, but he's not ready for the big leagues yet. Give him the time he needs. For that matter, give Rubio the same. A lightning-rod VP pick puts all the focus on horserace campaign BS, which the MSM will cover incessantly, diluting the central message of the Romney campaign by drawing attention away from the tottering economy and failed imperial president. Posted by: Redwine at July 12, 2012 08:53 PM (72Ob0) Since both AZ and NC are easy pickups for Romney, either pick would be seen as just cynically checking the "woman" box. Brewer has had a bit of national exposure due to the immigration fight, but she still doesn't bring much to the table unless the goal is getting some ovaries into the mix. Haley brings even less. Certainly she's good looking, has a great story, and went hard after the NLRB over Boeing, but that's not enough. In addition, we would have to relive Will Folks, the MSM would brand her a race traitor for abandoning her Sikh heritage in favor of Christianity, and who knows what else. There's no way the MSM lets that move the needle, so why consider it? I still contend that Rubio is not ready yet, but has huge upside. I'm going to say it's better than even money he'll go with a woman. The usual lame-ass identity politics "diversity" making history crapola. Given that, it's going to be a rising star in the Republican party, probably a governor or possibly a Senator, probably NOT from New England (which rules out Kelly Whatsername from NH and the Horrible Ladies From Maine).
What about Kay Bailey Hutchison? She's from Texas, which means resigning won't cost the Republicans a senator, she's old enough to have some gravitas without being too old, and she provides some nice regional balance. If she doesn't stir your loins, there's Jan Brewer, Martinez of New Mexico for the woman-and-Hispanic double play, Mary Fallin of Oklahoma, and Nikki Haley (who would undoubtedly get the Palin treatment). Martinez is certainly a strong contender if you think about it. There's the tempting Hispanic factor. Wanna know how deranged the left is getting? Some turd on the FB just said, "Romney wants to take us back to the days of Coolidge." The Calvin Coolidge who ran a clean, smaller, less taxes government, booming economy guy. From Wikipedia: Coolidge spoke out in favor of the civil rights of African Americans and Catholics. He appointed no known members of the Ku Klux Klan to office; indeed the Klan lost most of its influence during his term. Coolidge repeatedly called for anti-lynching laws to be enacted, but most Congressional attempts to pass this legislation were filibustered by Southern Democrats. I can see why they don't want to go back to that guy Posted by: TheQuietMan at July 12, 2012 09:34 PM (SRto7) 234

When I first heard of Sarah Palin, before she was introduced, I worried that they would hang every misogynist stereotype on her, and they did. Condi will be attacked as a closet lesbian who persecuted her own kind at the urging of her white male masters and took all that pent up frustration out on the innocent brown people of Iraq. She will be tarred by the same brush as Hillary Clinton, who must have been in a politically convenient open marriage to tolerate her hudband's infidelities, and even Whitney Houston... "White House" ... sang the Star Spangled Banner better than anyone, so the left decided instead of decrying her tragic struggle with substance abuse, they would spread rumors that she was a dyke. They want to make homosexuality seem mainstream, and they love calling Republicans hypocrites. Condi will be called a lesbian, whether it's true or not. But she has never run for public office before for exactly this reason.

Rubio and West are not ready, and should not be wasted on the warm bucket of spit position of VP this year. Given time, they have the potential to be presidential candidates that the base would be fired up about. Keep them in AAA for now. All Mitt needs is a solid and boring VP pick that brings the potential of a swing state victory - he's got the momentum, and I personally think the country might be willing to vote for boring / competent in 2012. As I've repeatedly said, why make a pick that electrifies the media and allows them to focus more on the race than conditions in the US and our failed Precedent?

Without googling, name any significant proposal from a VP.
The Vice Presidency as an office is independent of the Presidency. He is elected on a separate ticket, unlike - say - the Secretary of State. So in theory a VP can propose significant stuff and not worry about being fired. Anyway, as for significant proposals, how about John Tyler's proposal - "Harrison's dead; and I'm the President now, bitchez". That's pretty significant to me. As far as Paul Ryan goes, why on Earth would he want a position like VP where he has far less influence than he does in his current job? If he's as serious about entitlement and budget reform as he appears to be, there's no better place for him than where he is today. He wields an enormous amount of power, and only becomes stronger with a Romney presidency and a small R majority in the Senate - if that comes to pass, he gets first and final say on every single spending measure that the congress puts to a vote. Seeing as how I agree with his ideas on spending and entitlement reform, I'd like to see him stay put (not to mention his position will help continue pushing WI rightward, even if only a little bit).

Loves Freedom. Loves Life. Hates Corruption. Intelligent. She has not "co-opted" the Tea Party. Many if not most of the Tea Party love Sarah for the above reasons. And more. Posted by: teej at July 12, 2012 10:26 PM (cDwCa) 401
The TEA party, with no head, has been played as shitheads on TV thanks to Palin and Bachmann, who were only looking to advance their careers.

Huh...
Point 1.) Romney wants a VP in "attack dog mode" Point 2.) John Sununu [former Governor of NH and former White House Chief of Staff] just did another Leftist TV Talking Head Takedown®: Juan Williams. To wit: "Does this President from Chicago...Rezko...Blagojevich...etc...really want to start using the term 'felon?" And he pretty much shut Juan up from there: that's a rarity. He also called the Prezit "Incompetent" and that made Preznit Enabler Jaun's face fall. He clearly was outclassed and embarrassed on national TV. And for once, Ham-fisted Hannity pretty much stayed out of the way except for the commercial breaks and pushing some limits on talking over each other. The TV dishwasher retiree is best when he stays out of the way (and silent). Huh.... Posted by: AD at July 12, 2012 10:37 PM (uUsyW) 424

The "never elected" thing doesn't matter because no one would say that disqualified Eisenhower or General Patreaeus for that matter.
Her abortion view is a game breaker. Period. Frankly, she was not a good secretary of state. She pushed the Israelis to forcibly evacuate Gush Katif. What they got for their trouble was a Hamas-run Gaza strip, 10,000s of rockets fired at their southern cities, dozens dead and hundreds wounded. I don't want her near Israel. Frankly, a lot of blacks see it as a South Africa apartheid rehash which is of course horseshit but that's how they feel. She has stated as much. She argued against the surge in Iraq but had no solution of her own to the point that Bush was extremely frustrated with her. Cheney and Bush came up with the surge. Call me a cynic but unless somebody is a reliable conservative I DO NOT trust them to break ties in the Senate. The VP doesn't have to vote the way the president wants. Think of it as electing a alternate Senator. She would be bounced out of a Republican primary in most states. Posted by: Sean at July 12, 2012 10:49 PM (+eYQ4) 441

This is a signal by the establishment to Romney to pick someone more interesting than either a Portman or Pawlenty. Safe, white, and TOTALLY BORING.
Why can't people just admit there's a racial angle to this election? People are looking for an excuse not to vote for Obama, as Ace put it awhile back.
