| Mitt Romney At The NAACP And Media MalpracticeSo Mitt Romney went to talk to the NAACP today. I didn't see the whole speech but it seemed like reasonably good stuff. He focused on family, jobs and education. I didn't see but there were reports he received a good bit of applause when he promised to defend traditional marriage. Of course the media will not be focusing on that or the applause for charter schools, his invocations of faith or anything else. No, they will focus exclusively on his being booed for saying he'd repeal ObamaCare and that he will do better for blacks than Obama has. While that sort of hackery is to be expected, a couple of outlets are going well over the line. First, ABC News is all in on Obama (warning auto playing video). After focusing on the booing, ABC drops in this little nugget.Romney, a white Mormon whose father ran for president when blacks weren't even allowed to join the priesthood, told Obama's most reliable supporters that they have been let down by the country's first black president.Well then. If fathers and religion are on the table, I look forward to discussing the polygamy of Barack Obama Sr. and the racism of Jeremiah Wright. Oh wait, we can't do that. The added bonus to the auto-play video on the ABC site? Each time Ive opened it up, it starts with an Obama ad hitting Romney. Next is Donna Brazil. She says Romney shouldn't be surprised he was booed, after all "ObamaCare" is a derogatory term (video below the fold). This of course will come as a surprise to Obama's campaign team. Aside from Romney applause lines, what will the media ignore? Obama doesn't have the guts to go to a hostile crowd like this and give a speech. In fact, Obama won't even be addressing the NAACP convention. You'd think sending Job Biden in his place would be enough to turn them against him but it's probably not. These people aren't interested in jobs or businesses in their communities. Romney was booed. They are only interested in what the government can give them for free. They were once slaves and are now slaves to the democratic party. 95 % will vote for Obama. 14.5 % unemployment doesn't bother them. We need to get rid of welfare programs for the able bodied.

I listened to the entire speech. It was good, and he did not pander to them, but explained why his approach would do more to help the black community by improving schools and JOBS.
He got applause for supporting traditional marriage, and he didn't flinch when he got booed. Instead, he went off script and explained how Obamacare would mean fewer jobs. OT - We all know that any judge who doesn't tell a jury that it is their constitutional duty to judge the law as well as their other responsibilities is just a fricking low life peice of shit and a hinderance to humanity. And that statement pretty much includes every single judge that ever existed. Not any more. New Hampshire has codified it into law. Kudoa to the state: The rest is at fija.org With all the buzz and anticipation surrounding the final rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court the past week, there has been little attention to an interesting legal development in New Hampshire: On June 18, Governor John Lynch (no relation) signed HB 146 into law and it becomes effective on January 1, 2013. HB 146 concerns “the right of a jury to judge the application of the law in relationship to the facts in controversy.” It’s popularly known as “the jury nullification bill.” In this post, I will try to explain what impact this new law may have in the New Hampshire courts. By way of background, Cato co-published the most comprehensive book on this subject back in 1998, Jury Nullification: The Evolution of a Doctrine by Clay Conrad. So pick that up if you’re interested in the full legal and historical treatment. If you’re not ready for the book, do check out this book review by University of Tennessee law professor Glenn Reynolds. For purposes of this post, I am going to sidestep the question of whether or not jury nullification is a good idea. My purpose is not to “make the case for HB 146.” Rather, my purpose is to briefly explain what jury nullification is, provide a very brief history of the law on that subject, and, finally, explain how the recently enacted statute in New Hampshire may alter existing law and practices there. This is why it's a mistake for any GOP prez candidate even to talk to the NAACP. The media simply won't report it without being ultra partisans, and in any event blacks nevertheless still will vote in lockstep for the Democrat. In this particular election cycle it's a major mistake, given that Obama will receive art least 95% of the black vote on heavy turnout.Hopefully Team Romney learns the valuable lesson here: Don't tilt at windmills. Some press reported he got a standing ovation, but I am unable to verify this.
=========== At the end of the video I saw, they pull out a bit and you can see some of the crowd. Can't tell if they are standing or not--right at the point where the clapping stops and social custom allows one to sit is where the film stops. There is, however, at least one person you see turn and look down as you would if you were standing and were looking back to find your seat to sit. Either way, the lefties on my FB have already tried to claim that Mitt bussed in 200 plants to clap for him. (They were also mocking the organ music--as if it was Romney who chose it, not the house band.) You know that think about projection? Holy shit, do they ever. All good stuff.
But what I ponder in this little episode is why Romney has chosen to speak at an overtly racist organization (it's literally IN THE NAME) - apparently soliciting support,or at least trying toweaken support for his opponent - and why no politicians who go there ever call them out on it. But on the subject of Obama's father, the ultimate conclusion is that Obama's parents were not LEGALLY married, and so while Obama is not the "first black" president (as the people who constantly lecture on being "color blind" constantly enjoy professing), heIS both the first biracial and the first illegitimate (i.e., "bastard") president. 100% wrong. By not showing up the narrative would be "Romney racist, too intimidated and uncomfortable around non-whites to even bother speaking to black organization". Romney should have adjusted his speech some, considering the audience. Instead of saying he's just going to repeal Obamacare, he should have started by saying that, yes, there are some popular parts of the bill that we all like and he would like to keep those (because I think that's true), and while providing affordable health care is something we all agree with and should work towards, there are too many problems with how the AFAis structured...or something like that. I wonder who writes this guy's speeches. He shouldn't pander, but he's got to give consideration to the type of audience he's addressing. I give Romney credit for going in front of a hostile crowd, something Obama won't do (unless you count that time Chris Mathews said he was facing the "enemy camp" when he went to make a speech at the USNA). --- I see your point, but I think on Obamacare Romney can not show even a hint of desire to keep parts of it. He is barely holding on to conservatives who already don't trust him. Of course, Axelrod made sure Romney would be booed, and made sure this was all the MSM would report on. And undoubtedly this clip will be played tonight by David Letterman with accompanying guffaws. This will set up the next line of attack that repeal of Obamacare is racist and will hurt millions of black people. Right now the Obama campaign is all about shoring up its base and driving that black turnout.
The only reason I was "meh" about Romney doing this speech was because I knew it would be a setup like this by the Obama campaign. If the Romney camp did not expect this to happen, they were fools. BUT....it will ultimately help Romney with the people he needs, those upscale white socially liberal suburban voters. Along with the boilerplate he should have added that his father was an early supporter of the Civil Rights movement and that, IIRC, he and his father marched with MLK Jr.And he should have told them that the "modern day Civil Rights movement led by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton" is not what he marched for or what he believes in. Not reparations, not Affirmative Action (just a fancy way of renaming discrimination), not the constant race-baiting the Dem-Left-White House engages in, etc.. Instead, he still believes a person should be judged by the content of their character. That is what he should have done, take it to them and call them out. He missed a primeopportunity IMHO. It seems to be a required stop on the campaign trail. Here's what
Candidate Jones in CO would say to the assembled NAACP:"Ladies and gentlemen, none of you are going to vote for me. Thank you, and God Bless America. Actually, that's not far off from what he said in his opening remarks: "With 90 percent of African-Americans voting for Democrats, some of you may wonder why a Republican would bother to campaign in the African American community and address the NAACP" Posted by: Hollowpoint at July 11, 2012 01:42 PM (SY2Kh) 192

Going in front of the NAACP and trashing Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson (no matter how deserved) while denouncing affirmative action would not have been a smart move. It's one thing to endure some boos by sticking to his guns regarding Obamacare, but it's quite another to go out of his way to antagonize the crowd. @187 I think Romney was smart NOT to talk about his father. He can't run for President on his father's coattails, only Kennedys and Bushes get to do that. You can't trump an actual black president with "my dad marched with Martin Luther King", so why bother? He was smart to stick to the issues of THIS election, namely that we have a SCOAMF President that has been horrible for black people and needs to be removed.

@210 I don't expect any of them to actually vote for Romney, but what this speech did was let them know they should not fear him once he is elected. Part of Obama's strategy is to make people afraid of a President Romney. He inoculates himself from such stuff by doing things like this speech and especially by promising to come back after he is elected.

There was an occasion in 1993 when Bill Clinton went to speak to a veterans group at the Viet Nam Memorial. Almost en masse the veterans turned their backs to him. I'll bet almost no one has ever seen the film of that because the networks never showed what they happened. I did see a clip years ago that an amateur film maker had recorded, and it was mighty embarrassing to Clinton. He was very mad and flustered. And that's why somebody like Obama will NEVER appear before a crowd that they can manage and control with an expected outcome, because there might be a public outpouring of anger and resentment towards them that the MBM can't filter out. Madeline Albright and Steven Cohen (the SecDef) appeared at Ohio State in the late '90's to talk about Middle East foreign policy, and they were badly heckled by Arab students at Ohio State. Madeline looked PO'd that day. A very unfortunate ambush for them. Most Democrats are obnoxious, gutless twerps or bullies. When a Democrat congressman is from a very secure district (like Jim Moran) , they can afford to be as obnoxious and insulting as possible, because there is actually no chance that they can be unseated. Contrast this with...Ron Paul. Who comes from a district where there is a lot of loyalty to him. I disagree with a lot of what Ron Paul says, but I have never seen him be purposefully rude, obnoxious or vulgar. Crazy and wrong-headed, but never behaving like that tin-plated jerk, Moran. "He did it to demonstrate that he's not an extreme idealogue who won't even speak to that group."
True, perhaps, but it asad and pathetic statement about our country. He has to talk to extremist racists, to prove he's not an "extreme idealogue"? Maybe he should go give a talk to the Communist Party of the USA, also. There's also that "extremist" label, that's so unfortunate. The Founding Fathers were extremist idealogues- it's not always a bad thing. It depends on what you're being extreme and ideological about. These days, the Left is calling Tea Partier's "the extreme right". That's not really true, but it's outrageous that people who assert the values and principlesof the Constitution could ever be considered as "extreme" in this country, or that any American would question it's inherent "ideology", given it's unparalleled success. What Facebook needs - and I'm sorry again, Heather, seriously, if you'd seen the posts completely out of the blue because I posted a pic of my daughter's American Girl doll . . . anyway - what FB needs is a way to keep insane people (honestly, not being mean, I have FB connections who are mentally ill and I still love them but they are not well) able to post comments BUT have a way for me to actually hide their comments from everyone but them!
I guess that's weird. But they get REALLY upset if you block them, and notice RIGHT AWAY. I don't actually mind the nutty stuff this person posts, for example. What is happening is these women, my peers who never married, never had
kids, are now hitting the wall as some would have it - they are seeing the Great Nothing. Their parents are dead or dying and they often have no siblings and . . . I can understand they are scared. Add cat ownership to that (sorry!) and it's like this wave of crazy has hit Gen X women. Oh, God, that's so true. They bought all the feminist BS and men put up with their crap when they were young and attractive. They didn't really care about meaningful relationships and headed for self-destructive ones. They focused on a joke of a career, always out for a good time. Now they're over 40 and by the second date are planning the wedding and buying fertility drugs. They're unattractive, inside and out, and somehow still blame men for not being eager to submit to a nagging shrew with unrealistic expectations of home and hearth. Now that's just silly. Facebook is supposed to be a place where you can share the important things in your life with your friends and family (in between posting requests for fence posts and magic combs in Farmville, but I digress). If your friends don't want to see pictures of your children, they can do the rational thing and simply scroll past them. Anytime someone starts saying, "You're posting too much stuff that I don't like and it makes me angry!" then I'd be urged to respond, "And your petty childishness matters to me... why?" Heather, there is a certain disconnect that you see in some women of a certain age. There are those of us who have, one way or another, suffered from the destruction that feminism has done to the male-female relationship and those who bought into it.
I know quite a few examples who bought into it and can't quite realize that they wish they hadn't. But they don't come to this realization until too late. The gay rights bloc flexed their muscle last month. Obama needs their money, but he also needs the African-American political machines to get out the vote, and those political machines are not happy with Obama's support for gay rights. Or with the lousy economy. Or bad schools. I expect some more high profile stuff like this. Prominent meetings between African-American leaders and Romney. Public hesitations to endorse Obama. More blatant tiffs with gay rights groups and teachers unions. Posted by: Sweet Lou at July 11, 2012 02:42 PM (gsPPG) 358
Ah-hah! So basically Brad Pitt's mom said, "Obama isn't really the best candidate for Christians to support," and has proceeded to get filthy death threats from prog assholes. So basically just another day of "new tone."

BlackOrchid, et al, I am not active on Facebook for a number of reasons, but, the chief one is a nutty feminist friend who is unhinged on the subject of politics. She constantly sends me FB groups to join or to like that espouse things that are absolutely anathema to me. She knows that I am a Conservative Republican woman with deeply held beliefs, but, she feels free to ignore that in bleating about her feminist ideals and her Liberal Democrat crapitola. The last FB thing she sent me was some "have no sex until we force men into granting free unlimited contraception for everyone" thing in solidarity with Sandra Fluke.

I'm closing on my refinance on the 24th. No cost and I save about $200 month on mortgage payment.
The no cost was a surprise to me. I believe it's a government program that my mortgage company advised me I was eligible for. I have no idea why because I fit into no category that is in need. I think the mortgage company gets a little money from Uncle Sugar for refinances under this program. Also my rate was probably over some threshold they set. Wondering why I didn't grace them with my presence? As wonderful as it would have been, for me to have done that for them.
Two reasons: First, Joe makes me look good, by comparison. Second, I don't waste time and effort on done deals. Especially when there is so much Presidentin' to do. Posted by: Barack Obama as Augustus at July 11, 2012 03:17 PM (4eNxd) Posted by: tom servo at July 11, 2012 03:17 PM (lTcoT) 370
Don't know if it was the AP or Reuters, but the local librag ran a piece about Romney pitching to the NAACP, and it had the affrontary to say that "It may seem that Obama may have taken the black vote by skipping speaking to the NAACP, but VP Biden is also very popular among black voters".

"Liberals are simply going crazy at the prospect of losing."
Yeah, well, we thought we were going to win in SCOTUS so I'm not so confident that the liberals will be losing. Besides, we have to elect untrustworthy Republicans to the Senate and a Republican President and HOPE that they'll CHANGE their previous fecklessness and repeal OBAMACARE (sorry about the racism). How likely is that scenario? I'm voting wearing a scuba outfit but I don't expect anything good to come of it just less bad. "Cheaters like China"
I don't like this phrase. China is an important trading partner. He shouldn't encourage anti-trade sentiment just because he likes alliteration. Posted by: Jordan at July 11, 2012 03:34 PM (RSG1I) 374
The speech is worth watching, especially the part where he gets booed. He's not surprised, not flummoxed at all. He remains calm and explains quite clearly why he wants it repealed. It actually showed a man who believed in what he was saying and was willing to defend his position calmly and politely. It was a good thing for romney.

Cheating? To paraphrase Russ Roberts all China is doing is monetary policy. We have ours, they have theirs. We manipulate interest rates; they manipulate exchange rates. I'd applaud the Chinese if they would float their currency, develop independent judiciary and banking systems, and embrace other market reforms, but I don't think their central bankers are "cheating" any more or less than ours are.
