Bad News: 2009's Star of CPAC, 13 Year Old Conservative Wunderkind Jonathan Krohn, Is Now a Liberal

Meh. I always felt a little odd the right getting all silly about this kid, especially because we were so annoyed at other youngster's being used as ventriloquist dolls by their liberal parents.

What does a 13 year old know? Nothing.

What does a 17 year old know? Slightly less.

At Politico:

“I think it was naive,” Krohn now says of the speech. “It’s a 13-year-old kid saying stuff that he had heard for a long time.… I live in Georgia. We’re inundated with conservative talk in Georgia.… The speech was something that a 13-year-old does. You haven’t formed all your opinions. You’re really defeating yourself if you think you have all of your ideas in your head when you were 12 or 13. It’s impossible. You haven’t done enough."

But now, at age 17... game on, bitches.

Krohn won’t go so far as to say he’s liberal, in part because his move away from conservatism was a move away from ideological boxes in general.

...

But a quick rundown of his current political stances suggests a serious pendulum swing away from the right.

Gay marriage? In favor. Obamacare? “It’s a good idea.” Who would he vote for (if he could) in November? “Probably Barack Obama.” His favorite TV shows? “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report.” His favorite magazine? The New Yorker.

Shinebox.

70 Peer pressure plusinstitutional pressure plustheneed for an adolescent to differentiate himself from his parents. This is one reason liberals have fewer kids. The prospect of a rebellious teen going conservative is there -- they know it, even if they don't know that they know it. Besides, if they work in education, they also have the prospect of reproducing themselves by turning your kids into leftist pod people; think of the money they save.

And when the kid gets to college, he'll have to at least pretend to be a leftist in order to get laid.

chemjeff,

Prussian Blue was a little-girl band a few years back that were, of all things, a neo-nazi front. They were raised thinking Hitler was a good man and all sorts of other nonsense, and then sang about the glories of the white race.

Now, the actual glories of the white race aside, they were deeply messed up. But they've gotten better. Now they think Hitler did some things wrong, but that he was still trying his best.

It just reinforces my belief that making a kid spout any political drivel is deeply cruel and misguided. Kids should think about kid stuff, not the fictional past and deluded future of the white fucking race.

Although, de facto, it appears that the voting percentage may be smaller than if we had a net-tax-paying qualification for eligibility.

Reception can be iffy especially in adverse conditions. Normally involves a good sized initial investment in equipment and/or a long term contract so once your in your stuck for usually at least a year if not longer. Don't like the service, tough - you'll have to put up with it anyway.

No high speed internet, at least not the last time I looked at it. So for me, cable has been the better option. YMMV of course, but I wouldn't recommend it for most.

Just stopped DirecTV for Comcast to save money, and boy was that a mistake. Now I'm locked in for 2 years. The equipment from DirecTV was much better and more reliable (mainly the DVR, which could store 4-5 times the amount of shows, had a clearer picture, and would actually record the whole show rather than exactly, say, 10:00 to 11:00). The customer service was infinitely better and more accessible than that of Verizon and Comcast. The signal was also better than the cable I have now. No input on Dish, but they did just drop AMC, if you're picky about that sort of thing.

Think a lot of that depends on who has the cable contract in your area. The area in which I live the cable is pretty good and offers most the channels I want with the basic package, plus I can add on high speed internet pretty cheap.

When I lived in the city it was a different company, and they sucked. Bad. Terrible service, not much in the way of channels I wanted unless I paid for one of their huge premium packages, it was bad. So cable varies a lot from location to location.

I tried another satellite company once, and at least here the reception sucked. The picture was generally not that great even when the weather was good and when it got bad, ugh. Forget it, break out the chess board because you weren't watching TV.

Again that might vary from region to region or company to company, I only tried the one and it wasn't DirectTV. If you can find someone locally who has it might want to ask them their thoughts. Big thing that has kept me from ever considering going back was the high initial cost and long term contract.

If I can't check it out for a month or two and decide to walk away without being out a ton of coin it isn't worth looking at, not at least for me. I've been pretty happy with cable overall, a few minor bitches but nothing worth considering a switchover.

209 I just flipped through this Microsoft research report on Nigerian email scammers and why their shit sounds so obviously lame.

http://tinyurl.com/chwwnvr (this is a PDF document)

There seems to be some parallels between this and how politicians address arguments to certain audiences -- i.e. why scaring the senior citizens often worked for Democrats. The ones who do buy it have slowed down mentally, and the rest who dismiss it write it off as election year hooey.

Its an interesting paper that has got me thinking about how to "attack" a voter and get the best payoff in votes returned from the effort.

Be forewarned - there's math/charts involved.

210 A four-month investigation of the $340 million taxpayer-funded "Wisconsin Shares" welfare childcare program found the program rife with abuse and loopholes.

In one instance, research conducted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel found that four sisters with 17 children bagged $540,000.00 in taxpayer monies since 2006 by simply staying home and babysitting for each other. The most shocking part: it's perfectly legal.

<snip>
The program is so lax, it even pays parents to sleep. As the Wisconsin Journal Sentinel points out, "Counties have no way to monitor whether parents are actually sleeping while their kids are in day care."

vic, get the 1080 P anyway, you'll be ready when they are ready. The difference in price isn't that much really.

Costco, BJ's, newegg, tiger direct all have demos and decent prices. Vizio is good, so is samsung and westinghouse. Newegg has specials and you can get quite the deal from them. If you know your prices well, and you pick a couple of models you'll be able to get a good price. After you pick your medel, sign up for emails cause sometimes their are email only deals.

A lot of times it's easy to figure out the best price and then I always give the local people a chance to compete. You'd be surprised at how many times they do better than the lowest internet price, even with the tax included.

Oh and XPbargains is a great site for learning about electronics deals.

I complained to their tech support and they kept saying Of course you can't, the smaller ones don't have a disk drive. I, of course, kept pointing out that if I want to go to the kitchen, I can press record, then press play, then press pause and go do it. Have the small DVR just record everything that you are watching to some generic buffer file on the main one. There's plenty of room, the damn disk hold 800 freakin' hours of HD.

It's just effin code.

295 See, the kid's already learned how to pwn conservatives by spouting what they want to hear and then stabbing them in the back just when it's the most painful.

Sort of like the infantile John Roberts did.

Note: he hid his tendencies until he could exact the most damage and gain the most accolades. All these years lying low and writing and expressing opinions and NO ONE, NO ONE saw this coming.

That is the most duplicitous, foul and feckless sort of individual. He may be receiving praise from the Liberals now but inside they're reacting as any partisan does when encountering a double agent: "when will he betray US".

Because traitors are traitors and are never ever trusted again once found out. His lifetime appointment shields him from immediate affect. (can his chief Justiceship be taken away?)

If the tide turns, he'll try to wriggle back into conservatives good graces just like the worm that he is.

He should be shunned and ignored from now on.

He's dead to us.

My whole house system doesn't but then, I don't rely on any company who aren't looking to sell what I'm looking to buy.

I have a router that supports USB drives as a DLNA server. I can pull anything I've stored on that drive to any room of the house, via a PC or game console. I'm not concerned with keeping up with latest episode of whatever. I'd rather wait for the season to complete and download the whole lot. Instead I have a few hundred hours of TV and movies sitting on the drive, waiting to be watched.
