I'm writing a post about what's happened to Ali Akbar. It's taking some time.

I do not know if my suspicious are accurate, but there is no harm in being prudent. ... For now, I'm just going to write this, to let people know my plan. On Friday, this site will be absolutely dead-silent, which is what Brett Kimberlin and his stalker crew seeks, and what the media and our supposed Representatives in Congress would permit. The only post on Friday will be a bold-faced Open Letter to Congress, urging them to act and not attempt to pass the buck to others. They are our representatives; we would like some representation. They vowed to defend and protect the Constitution; they can honor that vow now. I will post links of Congressmen's and Senator's email addresses and offices and phone numbers, and urge every concerned American citizen to let them know, in no uncertain terms, that a crime in progress against the First Amendment (and people's safety) is occurring, and we humbly request they take this seriously. They are literally going to get someone killed. That is their endgame here. Will the media and Congress pretend "we didn't know" when this happens? ABCNews knows. The Weekly Standard knows. The Daily Caller knows. And many, but not yet all, Congressmen and Senators know. I encourage all bloggers and twitterers to essentially strike that day, or write nothing except your desire that you expect your Congressmen to take threats to your First Amendment rights seriously. Oh: Do not be provoked into saying something jackass. That's how he got Aaron Walker arrested and charged, unconstitutionally, with incitement. Everytime you say something intemperate, Brett Kimberlin smiles. Because he just screencaps that and says "Your Honor, I'm the victim here." The way this gets won is by law -- starting with Congress.Comments

I disagree with this tactic.
Brett Kimberlin and his cronies need more exposure, not less. This dude is a convicted terrorist and was smuggling TONS of dope when he was caught.
He will not stop. He must BE stopped. That means more coverage, more exposure, private investigation of him and his toadies, lawfare of our own and scrutiny so complete that he cannot operate on offense.
I think flooding Congress is part of it, but I think it'll be more effective to flood the zone with Kimberlin coverage and start a fund to start investigating him in earnest. Let HIM start reacting to harassment lawsuits. Enlist some of the heavier guns in the blogosphere.
Call me when someone sets up a fund to start going on the attack.

Congress knows about this and seems not to care. The major networks know about this, and seem not to care. Being silent for a day will be a misplaced attempt to get their attention. Something better would be to band together and start suing him in Liberty loving places like Texas or Oklahoma. Make him have to travel across the country to go to these hearings or face summary judgements.

In case you didn't know.....Megyn Kelly did a segment on the SWATting of Erickson and Paterico, last week.
She mentioned that the thing that was in common with those two events...was that they were both conservative bloggers.
But she didn't mention Kimberlin, or that writing about him was something else that these two bloggers had in common.
[If she did, I didn't hear it...but I was watching for it.]
So....as a follow-up to her previous coverage....Megyn Kelly might report on this.
Perhaps if enough of us send her an email about it, or a tweet, she will keep reporting on this ongoing saga.

Look, for the sake of Ace (because it IS his house) I am NOT advocating any specific violent act or violence in general. I want to be clear on that.
But the very same crowd that constantly gripes about their free speech rights when they want to put a crucifix in a jar of piss are now making phony and harassing calls and in some cases accusing bloggers of murder (A fake SWAT call is a fake accusation of murder, no two ways about it). They are calling spousal work places and leaving intimidating messages.
These are nothing short of provocative acts.
I'm all for what Ace is advocating (getting congress to act, etc.), but in my opinion, it will come to nothing. When it does come to nothing, those who were committing these despicable acts in the first place will now only become emboldened, and their actions will escalate.
You can only scold a rabid dog for so long, and at some point, you have to put it down. Again, I'm not being literal here, and I am not advocating violence against any specific people...
...but at some point it will be impossible to deny that we either surrender, or we stand our ground.
A reckoning must come.

A suit in the NYS Supreme Court will cost you a $210 filing fee, and about $40 for each motion. Plus, it has to be filed by an attorney (new e-file rules, but that may change) in many counties.
So that is $250 for starters -- the suit claiming damages, and a motion for summary judgement. The affidavit of service is another $50 or so, for a total of about $300, and that is assuming that the defendant does nothing in response.
And whose name goes on the suit? It's a public document.

A really inexpensive model. After dropping more than $2k on my last two only to find that six months later my highly upgraded devices were outdated by models costing half as much, I bought this and have been pretty happy. The sound SUX but I use speakers so I could live with it, but now that the keys are going out, I'm annoyed.
The good thing is that at less than $400, I can afford to buy a new one each year if necessary and still come out ahead.

You might want to mention tort reform, the history of concerns over legal harassment in general, and a brief summary of the issue in terms of using political donations and the cover of an advocacy organization to harass political enemies and do them harm.
Be concise but provide details.
Congressional action will likely be minor and is just a step in the process. They probably won't suddenly decide to press the states to reform court rules, or do so on a Federal level, except in a minor way.
I know Ace things reading the info into the record will make a big difference, I think it's just a small step that will help some people actively involved now - we don't have the MFM on our side so we have to take these small steps on our own.

Maybe, but if I try to imagine ways a clever individual could get away with fake 911 calls, it seems like it's probably somewhat labor intensive.
It's also worth pointing out that they probably don't have to fake anybody's number; just get a throw-away phone card paid for in cash. 911 isn't gonna ignore the call just because the number is unlisted or doesn't match the address or something; they have to take emergency calls at face value, more or less.

Spoofing a number is trivial. I can spoof a caller ID from the White House in about five minutes. Personal caller ID will identify it as coming from the White House exchange, and the name will come up as Barack H. Obama, or the White House, or whatever I want.
Law enforcement caller ID might be radically different, but obviously it isn't perfect.

I mean this in all sincerity--you truly can't count on those guys to be Tribunes. It just is not their corporate identity. Doesn't mean they are frauds or hacks (necessarily). They have got little old grannies in churches and the businessman in the local community who still carry more weight and who they have to cater to, as well as the media shadow they are afraid of, plus they are clueing in that the Tea Party is something whose independence streak shows no sign of ending, and they don't quite know what to do. I'm not saying they want the defenestration of the conservative blogosphere, just that if that was indeed the case, I wouldn't die of shock.
My advice would be to don't ever carry water for those guys, because they have shown no signs of doing likewise. Carry water for your principles, and let everything else take care of itself. Under the current arrangement, I think the Republic is only going to work if a spirit of factional independence is maintained by the informed part of the populace. This means you can fight for a guy or party--but you need to keep your powder dry with them as well, because if the those "mainframes" of the party have not caught the gist of the idea by now, they never will. They will only be moved by brute political force--that which costs them elections.
Classic liberalism will be stronger the more it makes it clear that its support of a current faction is conditional and not a vassalage for all time.
