MSNBC Flack Can't Deal With the Concept of "Hero" on Memorial Day

Chris Somebody at MSNBC in a show nobody watches cannot overcome his leftist bent on Memorial Day. He's uncomfortable with the concept of Memorial Day and "heroes" (his words follow), "why do I feel so uncomfortable about the word 'hero'. It seems to me that it's so rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war."

Something like that. I got lost in his pansy bullshit.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest his crawfishing about valor and "hail of bullets" blah blah, "I really do respect the troops" bullshit is exactly that.

It's incoherent crap.

He doesn't want to desecrate or disrespect their memory. Because it means nothing to him.

So how could he? He can't. He's powerless to do that. All he can do is wimp around on a television screen, waffle in the obvious trap that ensnares all leftists, and accomplish nothing, in front of dozens of viewers.

He can't take anything from anyone. He's a powerless douche.

[Update][OregonMuse]: Commenter chemjeff points out that this whiny little MSDNC pussy was not the least bit uncomfortable using the phrase "war hero" to describe John F'n Kerry.

51 Cutter also hammers Romney on classroom size, saying, “Mitt Romney made some more ridiculous claims and assertions this week, this time on education policy. He even had the nerve to tell a group of educators that: ‘It’s not the classroom size that’s driving the success of those school systems.’”

The problem is that Obama’s education secretary, Arne Duncan, has also suggested classroom size isn’t as important as some necessarily think.

“We spent billions of dollars to reduce class size. As a parent, we all love small class size,” Duncan told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “But the best thing you can do is get children in front of an extraordinary teacher. So other countries have higher class sizes but extraordinary talent in those rooms.”

Leonie Haimson, the executive director of Class Size Matters, recently wrote an open letter to President Obama that appeared in the Washington Post, saying, “If you disagree with what Romney said, you should rein in your own education secretary and ask him to take back his erroneous statements on the subject.”

Now, while military service is admirable and laudable, it isn't necessarily heroic. I keep that word meaningful by using it sparingly. Let's just say that, if you have a CMOH, you're a hero.

Agree with your broader point, but I would argue for including anyone decorated for bravery, plus some others - remember, sometimes "just doing the job" in a combat zone requires bravery and risk to one's life - just nothing that stands out and gets written up.

The author Karl Marlantes (who received the Navy Cross) described the statement of a Marine officer asked about his Silver Star: "Well, I did more than some who got it, and less than some who didn't."

83 Jeffersonian - might it not be more accurate to say that there are degrees of heroism? Anyone who signs up to stand in harm's way is certainly a hero in my book, yet there is also considerable personal sacrifice involved, hardship, and burdens too many to recount for all in our Nation's uniformed forces, whether rear echelon or front-line, and willingly embracing that on behalf of those whom servicemen and women seek to protect is a heroic endeavor as well, even if it isn't Audie Murphy blasting away at the enemy from a burning tank.

In that same light, I've known any number of nurses, first responders, physicians, and police officers who may have never met the criteria that allowed the award of some decoration, but who were, by my reckoning, at least, heroic, and worthy of being recognized as the same.

They're all taking a risk and making some sacrifice just for signing up, even if they never get into a war zone. They know when they sign up that the possibility is there. Which is more sacrifice than I've ever made. So I give them credit for that.

And on that note, one of my favorite war movies was "Gallipoli" with Mel Gibson. Mel's character is shallow and immature, and enters the army for all the wrong reasons. Of course he ends up being the hero. Good movie.

130 Not only is the guy a liberal douchebag, he's just wrong on the merits. The word hero is commonly connected to acts of heroism in wartime, but there is no *necessary* connection between heroism and war.

The Greek and Latin origins of the word 'hero' is from the concept of protection, not war.

You'd think the liberal elitists who deign to regard themselves as our betters would even bother to know what a word actually means before so casually connecting it to war.

A great book to help in the development of men of character is, "The Book Of Man" by William Bennett. Who is a hero? Milton L. Olive, III - Medal of Honor - 10/22/65

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above
and beyond the call of duty. Pfc. Olive was a member of the 3d Platoon
of Company B, as it moved through the jungle to find the Viet Cong
operating in the area. Although the platoon was subjected to a heavy
volume of enemy gunfire and pinned down temporarily, it retaliated by
assaulting the Viet Cong positions, causing the enemy to flee.

As the
platoon pursued the insurgents, Pfc. Olive and 4 other soldiers were
moving through the jungle together when a grenade was thrown into their
midst. Pfc. Olive saw the grenade, and then saved the lives of his
fellow soldiers at the sacrifice of his own by grabbing the grenade in
his hand and falling on it to absorb the blast with his body. Through
his bravery, unhesitating actions, and complete disregard for his
safety, he prevented additional loss of life or injury to the members of
his platoon.

Pfc. Olive's extraordinary heroism, at the risk of his
life above and beyond the call of duty, are in the highest traditions of
the U.S. Army and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed
Forces of his country

"Last week we spent a lot of time writing about Brett Kimberlin
and the incident involving blogger Patterico where someone spoofed his
phone number and told 911 he had shot his wife.

Tonight, my family was sitting around the kitchen table eating dinner when sheriffs deputies pulled up in the driveway.

Someone called 911 from my address claiming there had been an accidental shooting.

It wasn’t nearly the trauma that Patterico suffered, but I guess the Erickson household is on somebody’s radar.

Luckily it was two sheriffs deputies who knew me and I had already,

Can't the phone calls be traced?

Many years ago, some fool tried my front door knob at about 2:30AM. After telling him, through the door, that he had the wrong address ("No, I've got the right address"), I called the police.

They knew it was me, or at least where I was, because all calls to the police are identified, by phone number. The operator was able to immediately confirm all of my information. I live in a small town (in a large metro area) so this "feature" is probably available in every metro area.

Cell phones are slightly different. The number may appear, but there is a cell tower involved ... this (or these) indicate(s) approximately where the cell phone isduring the call.

Is this informaton available to the police in realtime? Combined with a real-time directory lookup, the cell phone number and a report of where the cell phone is should tip the police to the accuracy of the call ...

I also wonder where the caller of these SWATting calls is located ... I suspect that a stakeout with a little cooperaton with the cell phone provider might result inthe collar ofthe caller.

I read this on reddit "Imagine if we could get a woman who predicted the housing crisis, an advocate who fights for consumer protection, one politician who isn't afraid of Wall Street in the US Senate. That's exactly why the right is throwing every piece of nonsense they got at Elizabeth Warren."
The left has no problem with her being a liar that milked the system for jobs and rcognition by lying about a 1/32 indian heritage.

283 Moyers is an old Soviet provocateur

Moyers was one of LBJ's hatchet-men back in the 1060s. Remember the anti-Goldwater "daisy" ad? That was his. He was hip-deep in dirty tricks and sliming his boss' opponents, now he delivers pious lectures via PBS on civility in politics. Fuck him with a rusty pineapple sideways.

286 War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and
degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing
is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is
willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal
safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless
made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill

reddit is filled with college-age idiots with brains full of mush who think that if they read the NY Times and Media Matters every day, that they are well-informed. they represent the partisan left who will vote for Elizabeth Warren even if she raped and butchered a baby on live TV. I have no doubt that what you posted there has been copy/pasted directly from ThinkProgress or Daily Kos. their opinion doesn't matter, they are not the swing voters.

Why are you using a can of raid to kill a fly? That's toxic to you too. Instead buy a can of spray starch, the kind you use in ironing. Works better than anything and it's just starch.

This little douchebag couldn't fight his way out of the women's restroom at a convention for midget lesbians.
But let's talk about the idea of "heroes". I'm not worried about the word being some proximate justification for war--only a little douchebag like Chrissy could get his mind that tangled up.
Bu if EVERY firefighter, enlisted grunt, Navy pilot is a "hero"--what's left for the average Joes in the unit. Now Navy carrier pilots are an arrogant bunch--proud of their professional skills.
And while latterday folks will call those Navy pilots who go shot down over North Viet Nam "heroes" their fellow pilots who did not get shot down call them fuck ups.

Let's save the word "hero" for people ---men or women--who have done something really special. Otherwise the word "hero" will become just as meaningless as the word "rape" coming out of some Feminazi's mouth.

311 If I ever get a chance to beat this Starbucks-sipping, horn-rimmed glasses wearing, journal/poetry writing piece of shit within an inch of his life (assuming I never got caught) I will. "Men" like him guarantee that there will eventually be a crescent moon flag hanging over the white house and Congress. The only thing preventing that is the alpha males- mainly Southern, mainly Christian, mainly poor, almost exclusively heterosexual, people he has such contempt for, join the military and prevent that.

312 Just in time for Memorial Day,we get to hear an MSNBC assclownsay how “uncomfortable” he is describing fallen troops as “heroes” becausehe thinks it makes it “rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war”. Last I checked, the current war was started by rabid muzziezealots who took almost 3000 lives on this soil and have taken thousands more world wide, in the name of “Islam”. People far better thanHayes go intoharms way to fight an enemy who would love to makehim a eunuch for a new Caliphate. He's an incredibly stupid, inarticulate, stutterfuck with no clue.
His head is anatomically proximate to his ass.

Those two mother-fucking freaks are talking about the people I have served or who came before the rest of the seven percent that have kept this Country what is. 316 #28 "this is how the french became so 'french'."

Explanatory detail: In WWII, the French did not surrender to the Germans because the French people were cowards. The ordinary French civilians and soldiers were patriots who wanted to fight the Nazi invaders. The problem was that the ruling French elites were pacifist fools, and they were responsible for the capitulation.

Posted by: pst314 at May 28, 2012 10:43 AM (mFPMV)

317 to me any one who risks his life for another is "heroic". It is hard to find another word, really. Hayes is apparently some kind of disengaged sortofintellectual who is unaware of what "combat " means, and never will be, and doesn't care to be. But who cares? he brings no light to the table. He wants to sell his book and has no other motivation that that.

318 I can't protest this inconsequential child's statement by never watchning MSNBC again because I never watch MSNBC. Iwon't protest by boycotting his advertisers. They are already punished by wasting their money on him. But when someone asks me WTF happened to America, I can point in his direction and sigh.

Posted by: JD at May 28, 2012 02:19 PM (jCwj+)

319 Yes, any guy who smokes weed, gets Fs and Ds in high school, cannot get a job and joins the military to get a life is a hero. Got it.

Posted by: walter at May 28, 2012 03:51 PM (Rri2G)

320 I find these statements by Hayes incredibly offensive for many reasons: As an American, who believes in the principles that this country was founded upon. As a military retiree who recently completed 23 years in the service of his country. As the son of a member of this country's "Greatest Generation", who served in WWII and witnessed the flag raising at Iwo Jima. And as the father of a member of today's military, who recently returned from a deployment to Afghanistan.

While Hayes has the freedom to voice his opinions, he and his employer should be aware that this freedom carries with it a responsibility. Freedom of speech does not convey immunity from consequences that arise from the exercise of that freedom.

I intend to boycott all companies that advertise on MSNBC, and to send correspondence to them to notify them of this. This boycott will continue until Hayes is no longer employed by MSNBC. I encourage all who are offended by Hayes' statements, as I am, to do the same.
