Poll: Swing State Voters Take Dim View of Dim Vice President

Shirtless Biden Washes Trans Am In White House Driveway, as the immortal Onion article had it

What do we make of this?

In the 12 swing states likely to determine the outcome of the presidential election, only 40% of registered voters view Biden favorably, while 54% view him unfavorably. These numbers are worse than President Obama's who is seen favorably by 50% of registered voters in those same states and unfavorably by 49%.

...

Independents are also down on the VP, with 50% saying they view him unfavorably and 35% holding a favorable view. The survey found the same pattern with voters who are not strongly committed to any candidate, with 52% viewing Biden unfavorably and only 33% holding a favorable view.

Why should Biden's favorability ratings be so low, compared to Obama?

Wasn't Biden supposed to be the reassuring, charming one with decades of serious foreign policy experience?

Wasn't he supposed to make Irish Grandmothers swoon or something?

I would suggest something else:

It's safe to say you don't like Joe Biden. He's white, after all.

How much of the differential could that account for? Oh, probably not a huge chunk. But some of it. Some voters will say they have a high opinion of Obama, while saying they don't have a high opinion of the senile dolt Biden, even though they don't like either.

And on election day, those people will stop counterfeiting their actual beliefs.

If this baseless speculation is anywhere close to correct, Obama could be looking at a very short night on Election Night.

10 I think these numbers are probably fairly realistic for Obama as well. There are more than a few people that when asked about Obama will say they like him just because they think whoever they are talking too will consider them racist if they don't say they like him. I really believe this skews Obama's "favorability" rating quite a bit

Don't say yes too quickly. What if it looks like Obama will lose? She would run in 2016 either way -- she doesn't need Obama's "help" to be a frontrunner in 2016.

Don't see that every happening. Hillary has way to big of an ego and I can't see her playing 2nd fiddle to Obama for what will likely prove to be a very iffy election. It would take something huge to convince her to run as VP - I think she's biding her time and hoping Obama will lose,.

That way she's got another run at the White house in 4 years. I think she knows that win or lose, if she does sign up for VP that will end her political career.

That Hildebeast will replace Joey Plugs to become the first female VP, setting her up in 16 to be the nominee. She also may be able to open up the money spigots via Billy Jeff's supporters.
If he did this, it would be a desperation play, and would be seen as one. The only way it can be done is for Joey Plugs to step down for "health issues". Since he had the aneurysm, people would believe it and the media would sell it bigtime.

I would have the same reply if I were face to face with a pollster. I just don't get it.

100 All of this jumps to Shit Getting Real with the recall in 13 days.

I will continue to say it and repeat it until every friggin' talking head on the right starts nodding along- there is no "Blue Wall" anymore for Obama. There are areas that are incredibly vulnerable for him behind it that we need to be aggressively attacking. Not because we will win them. But if he is stuck defending them, he can't defend weaker states. North Carolina is quitely being ceded away. Florida too (see the GS article in WaPo). You force Obama to defend Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, and the resources start drying up for small states where Romney has rebounded (Colorado) and larger ones which are drifting back (Virginia).

Obama's big spenders are already drying up, Romney and the SuperPACs have not really begun hammering. Obama is incredibly weak with white blue collar voters who are RIPE for the picking, some of whom didn't even go for Reagan in 80 or 84 (see Western PA 80 84 88 92 96 00 and 04).

Spend money behind that fucking wall, big money, and watch the states we "need" fall right into place.

111 On the one hand, Obama can't be so insulated that he doesn't see there's a problem with Biden.

On the other hand, if Obama replaces Biden, it will be an admission that it was a mistake to pick Biden in the first place. Let me rephrase that: Obama will have to admit he made a mistake in choosing Biden.

Has Obama ever admitted making any mistakes, ever?

Posted by: BeckoningChasm at May 23, 2012 08:24 PM (i0App)

112 No, absent a overdose of aspirin, Hair Plugs is on the ticket.

Agree and here is why...

Obama knows Biden is a drag on the ticket, but he's such an egomaniac that he wants to be able to look at all his staff the day after election day and say, "See? I carried this ticket! I did! Don't ever forget that!"

That's why the schadenboner on November 7 is going to be epic.

113 I think the Democrats see this, by the way, and that is why they are furiously revving up the excuse machine for the event in which Walker wins. They cannot, will not, must not cede that Wisconsin is the first glaring break.

Biden's blabbermouth act can't be fixed with a hail mary last-minute replacement. Show me a successful President who was reelected by the sole act of ditching his VP 6 months before re-election.

If he's going down a trick won't save him.

191 MrCaniac, Gregoire is not leaving her state. It is well-known around conservative circles and Washingtonian circles that she stole at least one election from Rossi. The whisper campaign against her will be thunderous. And if she gets out of the primary, the Conservative base will be energised. Shit, she might even lose WA and OR in the general.

One of the Udalls or Pryor are possible, but I'm not sure they can beat the east coast Dem juggernaut if Cuomo picks up momentum.

193 I think she thought SecState would be a nice quiet hiding place where all the economic bad shit going down wouldn't stain her. To a large degree, that's what happened. Nobody is trying to spin Obama's economic failures in any way that would suck her into them.

Sec State is the perfect springboard for her, they can't say she doesn't have any foreign policy experience or executive experience now. I'll guarantee that was the only reason she accepted it - no one will blame her for Obama's failures and the one big check mark she needed for her resume is now filled.

So yes, look for her to run in 2016.

197 Speaking of cool with abortion.

From Gateway Pundit
In a news story that sounds like it is more out of bad science fiction movie than reality, a newspaper in India reports doctors in one city are so desperate to hide evidence that they are doing sex-selection abortions that they are feeding the remains of aborted girl babies to dogs.

Of course its only the feeding, not the abortions themselves, that makes the story newsworthy.

Los Angeles was not far behind, though -- in second place. Drivers in L.A. waste an average of 56 hours each year in traffic, according to the study. San Francisco was third, according to the group's analysis, and New York City fourth.

Not going to happen. Biden does exactly what Biden was meant to do, he is a distraction.

Lets face it, the only time the VP pick is "important" is when it's the Republican VP pick. Then you'll get all sorts of talk about "are they fit to be president" etc. The Dim's can nominate a total waste of air like Biden and the MSM will never utter a sound.

Biden is Obama's ultimate VP - because no matter what he does Obama looks like a brain surgeon in comparison. Obama doesn't want someone competent or intelligent. That would be competition as far as he's concerned.

So no, you won't see another VP pick.

Diplomats: Iran installed more enrichment centrifuges at underground site
Western sources say UN watchdog report to show Islamic Republic placed another 350 centrifuges at Fordow facility

A UN watchdog report is expected to show that Iran has installed more uranium enrichment centrifuges at an underground site, potentially boosting output capacity of nuclear work major powers want it to stop, Western diplomatic sources say.

Two sources said the Islamic state may have placed in position nearly 350 machines since February - in addition to the almost 700 centrifuges already operating at the Fordow facility - but that they were not yet being used to refine uranium.

290 Yadlin unfazed by Turkey's threat to indict him
Published: 05.24.12, 00:00 / Israel News

Former Military Intelligence chief Maj.-Gen. (res) Amos Yadlin responded Wednesday to reports that Turkey has prepared an indictment against him and other senior IDF commanders in the Marmara affair.

"I served in the IDF for 40 years – thousands of flight hours, hundreds of them behind enemy lines. The risks I took there were much bigger than this media report," Yadlin said in an interview with Geula Even on Channel 1. (Ynet)

301 but there is nothing in it for her as far as I can see...I honestly couldn't pick her out of a line up

Prior to the VP spot, Joe was nearly insolvent.

He owed almost as much in loans as he was worth. The house was in deep hock, he had lines of credit strung out all over the place, etc. How he managed to get that fucked up financially after sucking down a senator's phat salary for 30 years is still a mystery to me.

The only thing I can think of is he may be a retard, and a cheater in college, but he's not particularly corrupt as a politician and simply never learned how to profit from being a senator.

She may simply be hanging around for the phat VP paycheck and retirement he'll get. That's been enough to pull him out of the ditch over the past few years.

309 Fire reported on submarine at Maine shipyard
The Associated Press
Posted : Wednesday May 23, 2012 19:49:53 EDT
KITTERY, Maine — A fire has been reported on a nuclear-powered submarine at a Maine shipyard.

Fire crews are responding to the blaze on the attack sub Miami (SSN-755) at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, located on an island in the small town of Kittery near Portsmouth, N.H. The Portsmouth Herald newspaper says several firefighters have been injured.

Shipyard public affairs specialist Gary Hildreth says the fire is located in the forward compartment of the sub. The shipyard says the sub’s reactor wasn’t operating at the time of Wednesday evening’s fire and wasn’t affected.

Nonessential personnel have been removed from the sub. Black smoke has been billowing overhead, visible from surrounding areas.

The Miami is a Los Angeles class submarine. It arrived at the shipyard for maintenance and upgrade work in March. Its home station is Groton, Conn., where the Navy has a submarine base.

361 >> It's safe to say you don't like Joe Biden. He's white, after all.

Yeppers.

Racism is thrown around so excessively now that it's easy to dismiss it when it does occur. But you know what? I think the results in Arkansas and Kentucky *are* colored by racism. I'll concede that because I believe real racism still exists. Read the comments on most YouTube videos to see it in action.

I wish liberals would only admit how prevalent the soft bigotry of low expectations is in return. Or this corollary that Biden suffers. Real racists would make fun of a black Joe Biden among themselves, but many whites would hesitate because of his color. I guarantee you when a white person is being asked by a black pollster he or she finds it easier to express a negative opinion of Biden than of Obama.

As an aside, I'm happy to see SNL's willingness to lampoon the buffoonery that is Al Sharpton--albeit they are somewhat inoculated against the racism charge by having an out-spoken black comedian act the skit.

Posted by: Nicholas Kronos at May 24, 2012 12:28 AM (UCR1O)

362 Biden stays on the ticket. Hill won't get on a loss does nothing to hurt her and the Clintons are vindictive enough to let Obama lose. So who is the alternative? The fact of the matter is, you'd have to name a young talent. Obama isn't above hedging his bets. He's not going to elevate his potential competitor in 2016 should he lose this year.

Posted by: bskb at May 24, 2012 12:29 AM (HEatA)

363 If Obama loses this year, he's not doing jack in 2016.

I think he'd drop-kick Biden in a second if he was convinced it would help him *and* HRC was willing.

As for Clinton's reluctance, she wouldn't do it just to help Obama. But if she became convinced that she could come off as the Democratic savior who then deserved the reward of a party coronation in 2016, that might work.

They have to find a way to ease Slow Joe out without its seeming like a panic move. If that can be done smoothly--and remember that the media will gush all over it--then it's a no-brainer IMO.

Posted by: Nicholas Kronos at May 24, 2012 12:37 AM (UCR1O)
