'Duping Delight'

Liar in Chief

A new term for me. It was in a video, a TED lecture by Pamela Meyer, "How to Spot a Liar." Duping delight is the thrill of getting away with a lie. It's a term coined by Dr. Paul Eckman (pdf).

[It is] the near irresistible thrill some people feel in taking a risk and getting away with it. Sometimes it includes contempt for the target who is being so ruthlessly and successfully exploited. It is hard to contain duping delight; those who feel it want to share their accomplishments with others, seeking admiration for their exploits.

The Pamela Meyer TED lecture is below the fold, followed by video of duping delight examples.

"How to Spot a Liar." The references to duping delight are at 11:45 and 14:55. (I can't do anything about the blank spaces the TED embed adds.)

Examples of duping delight created by what appears to be a blog, Faces in the News.

And poker players.

Anyway. Watch for duping delight on Obama's face. It happens a lot.

Wheatie, I have a young 'un in my family who'd sooner lie to you and catch hell for it than tell the truth in the first place, a puzzler for sure, since because of it they lose their cell phone privileges and lots of other things kids don't seem to be able to do without these days.

He likes that even better. He knows he's lying. We know he's lying. He knows that we know he's lying. And he still gets away with it, over and over. This is what Barky REALLY loves.

Anyone can tell a good lie to someone who can't figure it out, but only a real dick with total power can tell a transparent lie to someone who knows better and still get away with it with the target demuring from even saying it's a lie. It's a truly severe demonstration of power while forcing total submission by the audience in the process. This is what the sickest and most dangerous individuals do.

I've been saying this about Barky since the primaries. It's bad, bad stuff.

9 I worked for a guy in the printing industry - he owned the quick printer I worked at, and was the lead sales rep, although he didn't sell all that much, just service the larger accounts - who would commonly lie when he didn't have to. I think he got turned on by it.

He'd also order us (CSRs and sales staff) to lie to the customers, and would get really mad when we wouldn't. After a while, all the customers knew they had to ask us to get a straight answer. No one would believe a word he said, and they were openly contemptuous of him.

Needless to say, he's tottering on the brink of bankruptcy now.

10 Of course Obama delights in pulling one over on a gullible public. Look no further than his recently uncovered self-supplied bio where he flaunts being from Kenya. Because being just another black guy from Chicago is not special enough, not flashy enough, not extraordinary enough for the exotic Sleazy Preezy.

Yup. Same thing with mine. ....The thing about Liars is, apparently they are too stupid to realize that there will come a day, when they will need people to believe them...about something.

But they have so thoroughly destroyed their credibility, that no one believes them....even during the rare momentwhen they are telling the truth.

Everytime. Every single time, he said something vaguely conservative, Clinton would tilt his face down a bit and give a little smile.

I never could figure out how he fooled so many people because his "tell" was so obvious.

With Obama I think it's a little different, not that he's fooling you, it's more like he knows you know he's lying but that he knows he won't be called on it. Cuz then you'd be a raaaaaccccciiiissstttt, and he wins anyway.

My ex husband was the biggest liar I have ever met. SCOAMF reminds me of him. Sociopath.

I have all kinds of body language/how to tell a liar books.. use to help me when I was in sales.

94 When I did a tour on recruiting for the Navy, occasionally some kid would say 'You're lying to get me to join the Navy'. I'd reply 'Kid, if you are stupid enough to believe a lie, I don't want you in my Navy. Join the Army. They need stupid guys'. OK, before everybody gets their dander up, as a Seabee I served around all branches and respected them all. Even drank with them. And that ain't no lie.

Lying for kicks is a cardinal psychopathic trait.

Fortunately, it does not well end for most psychopaths and it will not end well for Obama.

110 An amendment that would legalize the use of propaganda on American audiences is being inserted into the latest defense authorization bill, BuzzFeed has learned.
The amendment would “strike the current ban on domestic dissemination” of propaganda material produced by the State Department and the Pentagon, according to the summary of the law at the House Rules Committee's official website.
The tweak to the bill would essentially neutralize two previous acts—the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 and Foreign Relations Authorization Act in 1987—that had been passed to protect U.S. audiences from our own government’s misinformation campaigns.

Meh, its been going on for decades already.

The best propaganda is almost completely true, but with only small elements omitted. In terms of the gross lies the Obama administration has been hawking, some quality propaganda would result in a significant upgrade in truth percentages.

114 The narcissism sociopathology is essentially untreatable too.

There's some behavioral training techniques that try to get the narcissist to a point where they can recognize a situations where they need to fake empathy and normal response, but they don't actually feel it. Its still all an act.

117 Purple Avenger: exactly, its like psychopaths. You can get them to mimic ordinary people and function in society, but you can't fix them any more than you can "fix" a deaf person by teaching them sign language. They are irreparably damaged, and in a way far worse than deafness.

My little sister, the youngest in our family stayed out of the family troubles, more or less, by flying under the radar screen and being inoffensive and really cute. The few times she got into trouble, she lied and lied and lied and lay down in her room and cried until our folks went in to her and soothed her and made her feel better. She never, ever confessed anything, and she always got away with every transgression. Our parents rewarded her lying by letting her off the hook whenever she was in trouble.
I was the only pretty consistent truth teller in our family, and it never got me anything but grief. We were a very troubled "perfect" family, and I was always in trouble for surfacing one or another of our problems which always had to be denied and covered up at all cost. If I surfaced a problem, I got blamed for "causing" it.
As the years went by, and we grew up, my little sister lied more and more. She would call me on the phone and tell me longwinded stories that I knew could not be, and were not, true.
Sadly, my sister, a heavy drinker, and on several liver-damaging meds for rheumatoid arthritis, began to experience liver problems, and she eventually died at 55 years of age. Many of them seemed focussed on getting back at the kids she grew up with and went through school with, who I guess she thought never treated her right.
Our relationship had deteriorated due toher lying, her drinking, and alsoher growing, disturbing fascination with evil and obsession with all kinds of sexual behavior. We had not been communicating and I did not know how ill she was since she lived several states away from me.
When she died, her husband and son blamed me for not keeping up with her, and they still do.I did visit her toward the end, but got very little time to spend with her, as her son arrived, and he hates me terribly, so I had to leave.
I don't thinkher familyrealizes that so much of what she told them about her past was lies. Or maybe they don't even care. Isuspect thatshe told them a lot of lies about me, too.
There is no way I can ever explain this history to my brother-in-law and nephew.I believe thatit would be cruel to try, and so I will not attempt to re-establish our relationship. This is the lasting damage that chronic liars, especially those in troubled families,do. What a mess.

He likes that even better. He knows he's lying. We know
he's lying. He knows that we know he's lying. And he still gets away
with it, over and over. This is what Barky REALLY loves.

Anyone
can tell a good lie to someone who can't figure it out, but only a real
dick with total power can tell a transparent lie to someone who knows
better and still get away with it with the target demuring from even
saying it's a lie. It's a truly severe demonstration of power while
forcing total submission by the audience in the process. This is what
the sickest and most dangerous individuals do.

I've been saying this about Barky since the primaries. It's bad, bad stuff.

121 @Ace: "It happens a lot"???
Ummm....NO....it happens almost every time he opens his mouth to speak to us...he lies because HE is a lie, everything about him is a lie, everything about his past is a lie, everything about his core beliefs is a lie, everything about barak hussien obama is bullshit, from the day he was born to the present, nothing in this mans world is real, therefore he wouldn't know the truth if were smacking him in the face...from his days in kenya, indonesia, hawaii, chitown, anywhere and everywhere...he's a walking, talking contradiction to truth...and what makes him even more dispicable is that he KNOWS it...its his ONLY defense against whats real in the world, he cannot be a part of the real world, so he's created this elaborate lie to live in order to feel welcome, apart of something he can never be a part of, never imagining he never will be...it is the sign of a compulsive liar, narcicists and sociopaths...he couldn't tell the truth if he had to...as there's simply no truth in or to him....and for the LSM (minitrue) its far too late to call him out without themselves being complicit in the lies he's told, 'if' they didn't want to be lied to, they wouldn't have been, so...(one of my core beliefs is people allow themselves to be treated exactly as they are treated, by everyone in their world) the bigger question now becomes why would they want to be lied to and why would they allow such a pathetic nothing to be the one lying to them, and by extension, us...there's going to come a reckoning, folks, there always is...and when it finally comes out that not only did he bald face lie to every man, woman and child in this country, WITH the medias assistance, there IS going to be hell to pay!
barak hussien obama is not only a narcicist, he's a sociopath...and this narcicistic sociopath has his fingers inches away from the nuclear armaments, when sociopaths are cuaght, they take the 'destroy everything' way out...theres no other option for them, to admit the truth is to reign down hell on your own head, to involve everyone else, for them, at least spreads the misery around and deflects the misery elsewhere!

IF he wins this next election, America as we've known it is through!!! There can be no going back without every person who voted for him admitting they allowed themselves to be lied to....aren't many who can accept that kind of guilt and learn from it, not anymore!
