I don't know how you say schadenfreude in smoke signal, but Granny Warren's "Native American" ancestor probably did:
For over a quarter of a century, Elizabeth Warren has described herself as a Native American. When recently asked to provide evidence of her ancestry, she pointed to an unsubstantiated claim on an 1894 Oklahoma Territory marriage license application by her great-great grand uncle William J. Crawford that his mother, O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford, Ms. Warren's great-great-great grandmother, was a Cherokee. After researching her story, it is obvious that her "family lore" is just fiction. As I pointed out in my article here on Sunday, no evidence supports this claim. O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford had no Cherokee heritage, was listed as "white" in the Census of 1860, and was most likely half Swedish and half English, Scottish, or German, or some combination thereof. (Note, the actual 1894 marriage license makes no claim of Cherokee ancestry.)But wait, there's more ...
Jonathan Crawford, O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford’s husband and apparently Ms. Warren's great-great-great grandfather, served in the East Tennessee Mounted Infantry Volunteer Militia commanded by Brigadier General R. G. Dunlap from late 1835 to late 1836. While under Dunlap’s command he was a member of Major William Lauderdale’s Battalion, and Captain Richard E. Waterhouse’s Company. These were the troops responsible for removing Cherokee families from homes they had lived in for generations in the three states that the Cherokee Nations had considered their homelands for centuries: Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Now, it's pretty obvious that people in the stands at a Braves game doing the "tomahawk chop" are as Indian as Elizabeth Warren, yet she had no problem making this claim for decades, based on nothing more than a rumor, to take advantage of the Democrats' check-the-box system of racial spoils. Of course, she couldn't be bothered to keep up even the vaguest of appearances. She's crusading for Social Justice™, man. Don't bring her down by asking her to powwow with actual Indians. Besides, she lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and they aren't exactly easy to find around there. Oh, wait ...
Senatorial wannabe Elizabeth Warren, aka Fauxcahontas, said she listed herself as a minority in law school directories because she was hoping to meet others with Native American roots. So isn’t it a shame that Liz took a pass on last weekend’s 17th annual Harvard Powwow???? The Harvard Law School prof was campaigning on the North Shore last Saturday while Harvard’s Native American Program filled Radcliffe Yard with Native American singers, dancers and drummers.Why would they have such a thing at Harvard, you ask? Well, according to the school's 1650 charter:
WHEREAS, through the good hand of God, many well devoted persons have been, and daily are moved, and stirred up, to give and bestow, sundry gifts, legacies, lands, and revenues for the advancement of all good literature, arts, and sciences in Harvard College, in Cambridge in the County of Middlesex, and to the maintenance of the President and Fellows, and for all accommodations of buildings, and all other necessary provisions, that may conduce to the education of the English and Indian youth of this country, in knowledge and godliness: ... (emphasis added)My, how far we've fallen from such noble purposes. Somewhere along the way, Harvard, which refuses to comment on whether Warren is the person listed as their sole Native American professor, forgot about both godliness and the Indians. In all but a thin veneer, anyway. On a related note, the Warren campaign recently offered the photo below the fold as conclusive proof of her Native American ancestry, but I'm not buying it.
Shelly Lowe, executive director of Harvard University's Native American Program (HUNAP), told Breitbart News today that U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren had not, to her knowledge, participated in the program's events while Warren was a professor at Harvard. Last week, Warren explained that she had listed herself as Native American "in the hopes that it might mean that I would be invited to a luncheon, a group something that might happen with people who are like I am." However, she had not been involved in HUNAP, the most obvious avenue for meeting fellow Native American faculty and students.

BTW, other than the whole "Ivy League" prestige, is the actual education received at any of the Ivy's actually worth it?
I mean, they say someone with a college education will make $1M more over the course of their lifetime. Let's assume and Ivy Leaguer will make $2M more. That's an extra $50k per year over the course of 40 years, however, they have accumulated $200k-$400k worth of debt (not counting interest), so they would potentially earn $40k-$45k more per year than someone who didn't graduate from college. However, That extra money would likely place them in a higher tax bracket than someone making $40k-$50k less, so that number is cut further. THEN.... consider some of the majors pursued by those kids: women's studies, art history, philosophy.... and there's no way in hell they are ever going to approach the kind of earnings mentioned above.
So, really, what the hell is the real value?

Near here we have Creek/Muskogee from the Macintosh days after William signed over Creek lands in Ga. for a place along the Chattahoochee river in Whitesburg Ga. now a Park. Pow wows are held there and the descendents of the Macintosh mixed bloods live all around the area. To say you have Indian blood is most likely correct. To have black blood also is a fact.

Might I recommend lookign at the rest of Harvard's faculty and seeing if any of THEM have ever identified themselves as "Native Americans?" If the answer is no, then yes, she is. I realize Harvard has a lot of profs, but I'm sure an enterprising young reporter out there could look at when Harvard first started boasting about their "Native American" faculty member, then look at the professors who were there at the time who are still there today, and extrapolate.

weekend on Cspan BookTV and they were interviewing Michael Lovegrove
author of "A Nation In Transition" about the Indian tribes in Oklahoma.
He was talking about the role of a specific OK law firm around 1900 in
putting lots of unqualified people on the ancestry rolls of the Cherokee and
Chickasaw nations, specifically to steal land assigned to Indian
Territory. I couldn't help thinking about Warren and her OK Cherokee
heritage. Wouldn't it be hilarious if her "heritage" was ginned up by
her ancestors specifically to defraud the Cherokees out of land over 100
years ago?

Good catch. ....I had had a similar thought, but with regard to her ancestor who was an army Major in charge of moving the Cherokees to Oklahoma. .....There was some graft and corruption going on back then, on the part of the military commanders who were put in charge of guarding the Indians, to keep them on the reservations.
Not saying her ancestor was a part of it.....but it was going on, andso he could have been one of the ones doing it.

My great-great grandfather died at the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. The family lore, depending on who you asked in the family, was that he was one of Pancho Villa's guerrillas or was a peasant executed by Villa's own hand.
Recently we found that the truth was, he was a mid-level railroad employee in Durango who also owned a small silver mine. He sent his daughters north to the US just before the revolution, and he went out to defend his mine. Villa's men killed him there while on a long raiding mission to embarrass the local revolutionary leader whom Villa wanted to usurp.
The point being, family lore is largely crap.

No. The Diocese was embarrassed with the vid since the girls were from the all girl Catholic down the street. So the boys were slow roasted a bit and the vid was supposed to be disappeared. I have only seen it before because the boys all still know where to find it.

If my theory of Trooper-bops-Pocahontas-on-head-and-marches-her-off-to-cabin is true, then we have a Cherokee deciding there's a social advantage in passing as white on her marriage license in 1837.
And at the time, she was probably right. Her offspring were 'white', they married whites and had white babies and those babies married whites and had more white babies and so on.
And a bit under two centuries later, one of those white descendants decides there's a social advantage in passing as Cherokee...

You really need to give it a rest. I am a nurse and I have seen and done things that most people would be traumitized for life. I remember once being in a gym and a union laborer was going on and on that he was on the clock at 38 an hour while in the gym and at the time, I was not making anywhere near that. Not all girls are dead beat hacks, just like not all men are pure as the driven snow.
