TransCanada Offers Obama Second Chance to Heroically Destroy Tens of Thousands of Pipeline Jobs

It's not just the cheaper oil or thousands of construction jobs. It's about existing jobs:

The overall 830,000 barrel a day project is aimed at moving crude derived from the Alberta oil sands to refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast, which face declining volumes of oil from traditional suppliers, including Mexico and Venezuela.

If those refineries are facing declining volumes -- less work -- workers will be laid off. Here's an opportunity to keep Americans refining oil, but Obama will not have any of that on his watch.

ďToday there is just one person standing in the way of tens of thousands of new American jobs: President Obama,Ē said House Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican. ďAfter nearly four years of review, delay and politics, he is out of excuses for blocking this job-creating energy project any longer. Every state along the proposed route supports the pipeline, and its builder has jumped through every bureaucratic hoop.Ē

30 The trick is to compare Obama's drag-us-into-green-energy-land to Stalin's collectivization of Ukranian farms in the 1920's without being too heavy-handed. For those of you who don't know, Stalin wanted to increase agricultural production by mechanizing it (no one in Russia had tractors in the 1920s) and eliminating small plots -- "economies of scale". The result? Aside from deep resentment (which the Nazis were too racist and stupid to exploit) there were millions of deaths due to the famine it caused.

True dat, but in addition, access to oil (and energy in general) at low(er) prices tends to make the populace more independent as they can find jobs and start businesses. They are also able to use their own transportation free of TSA, timetables, and arbitrary schedules.

None of this is in the socialist plan for us, so it has to be stopped by the most convenient means possible, such as citing potential environmental damage, and an addiction to oil when that green utopia is just a Solyndra away, if only we (and the laws of physics) would just step up and cooperate!

After all, you know in your heart, Obama and his minions have only the best plan for your future.

37 Canada was giving us a price break because we were neighbors, or something.

From what I could gather (mainly from this blog), it was a lot easier for Canada to just sell to us rather than develop other markets. But because they hadnít developed any market other than us, they were at a bargaining disadvantage, and sold to us at less than market price, seeing as they had no other market to sell to.

As long as we were a safe market, thatís not necessarily a bad plan. But when we started saying, ďno, we donít want your oil at less than market priceĒ they realized that, to be respected, they needed to find new partners.

I'm not so sure about this. ....Canada has already been selling some of their oil production to China. ....China wants all they can get. China is who will get the lions share of the oil that Barky is preventing us from buying.

Canada is enjoying a boom right now, in revenues and jobs.....their active Oil and Gas Industry is a big part of this. ....If they were already selling a large batch of oil to us through this pipeline project, then our own domestic production companieswould be less inclined to drill for more....thereby keeping the price up. .....So there is also some self-interest involved here. Which I don't blame them a bit for.

78 What's really really disappointing here is that the Canadian pipeline company is doing this entirely out of the goodness of its corporate heart, with absolutely no commercial motivations whatsoever. It's like TCP is run by a board headed by Ghandi & a CEO of Mother Theresa. It's unprecedented in history, really - especially for a corporation, which you'd THINK would be required by its shareholders to act in the best interests of THEM; but apparently, & maybe this says something to the essential godliness of the Canadian people, & how deeply they care for their poor struggling neighbors to the south, are 100% behind this totally awesome & worthwhile charitable endeavor*.

(*That's a Canadian word, right up there with words like "initiative" & "program". It's utterly amazing how this entire country is apparently going to be able to skip purgatory & go directly to Heaven First Class.)
