Jon Lovitz Attempts To Explain Liberalism To Angry Liberals

Lovitz is surprised at the criticism he's getting--

Another good, sensible tweet at the link, where he proclaims the economy isn't "Democrat or Republican," it's "business and math." Or "profits and earnings ratio," as the Idiot King might say.

Here's a telling Tweet by Lovitz:

@AstroNerdBoy I have blasted Bush…. in my stand up act.. no one commented on it, though.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012

Well, that's probably not true. I'm sure some conservatives did comment on it. But then, Lovitz didn't hear it. The Two Minute Hate wasn't declared.

He attempts to define "liberal" to non-liberals. And I don't mean conservatives. I mean what's typically termed "liberal," now, but is as illiberal as you can be.

@BowedOak excuse me… the President is lying… I just pointed it out. It's not my fault he's lying.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012

I haven't gotten any backlash. I am a Democrat and liberal…

Liberal, from the word "Liberty"
Freedom to be who you are..—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012

...

be it conservative, democrat, republican, libertarian..
liberal.. freedom to be true to yourself…
that's what liberal means.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012

@HesDanTheMan I don't mind paying a little more. I pay my fair share now. The President is lying to get votes..it's obvious and transparent.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012

@LawyerGraham @AP
well, you've proven my point. you believe the propaganda. I know what I am paying in taxes. You are being lied to.—
Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) April 29, 2012

I was upset with the President LYING. I pay my fair share of taxes and so does everyone else I know who is in the same tax bracket.—

7 Lovitz' problem is that he is not enough of a hypocrite on the subject of high taxes to suit the elitist liberals. The nerve of the guy. He actually says he doesn't want to pay higher taxes.
He's supposed to say he wants to pay more because it is FAIR, then instruct his financial people to comb the tax laws for ways to avoid paying.

18 I don't think this is necessarily nothing. It might be not something, we'll have to see.

Plenty of liberals have become more open to Republicans and left the Dem reservation not because they changed their views but because when they disagreed slightly with a Democrat politician or talking point they got an out of proportion backlash.

In other words, when the cherished "tolerance" of the liberal mind did not manifest itself.

39 *If Jon is smart enough to figure out what he's paying in taxes, he should have been smart enough to not vote for Obama.*

I have no doubt that celebrities, living in the bubble, had no idea who or what Obama really was in 2008. I've seen a couple of folks, like Lovitz and Huffington, say negative things about Obama and be crucified (figuratively) for "not saying it back in 2008". Look, alot of smart people were fooled by Obama in 2008. He was an empty vessel and many people projected their notions of what an intelligent, black liberals lawyer would be and do once he got into office. Friends of mine were fooled (and I ridiculed them mercilessly at the time, because like most of you who had done their homework, I knew exactly what Obama was)- however, several of the staunches Obama supporters from 08 are waking up and seeing the light- "are you better off now than you were 4 years ago"- the majority of them will admit they are not better off. I've been saying for 6 months or so, I think Obama has lost most of his "independent" base and unless said voter has some kind of wedge issue which trumps everything else (gay marriage, reproductive "rights", abortion, etc), you will see alot of people who voted for Obama in 08, either staying home, or very very quietly, voting for Mitt Romney.

I don't need for entertainers to become republicans, I just want them to have a small amount of intellectual honesty, as opposed to their marching in lockstep.

The only way to get a vote out of a libs hands is for something to directly affect them.

Like all Americans that voted for that SCoaMF, it has to directly affect them in some way. Religious, monetarily, or attacking the core of America and our true values.

I don't think its going to be attacks from people he thought he trusted. I think its more likely to be the lack of support and defense from the people he trusted.

88 "If Jon is smart enough to figure out what he's paying in taxes, he should have been smart enough to not vote for Obama."

There are voters who tend to vote for "their own party", but when things in the country aren't going well, they decide to "give the other guy or party a try".
I believe that this happened in 2008, 1980, 1992.

Liberals, or dems, like Lovitz, who are capable of independent thought, are also capable of either staying home on election day, or going with the repub.

Mark Steyn used to point out a lot of people confuse "libertinism" is "liberty." Proggs want to limit every single aspect of your life--your home, your food, your children, your travel, what you can read/hear on the radio--but they encourage you to fuck anyone you want in any way you want with no limits or consequences or bad feelings, so they must be advocating "freedom", or something.

The culture has a very strong grip on people's voting habits. It's why I'm a little (but only a little) encouraged to see things like this because it means the left's stranglehold on the culture may not be ironclad.

It's usually when stars get older, and look back at what they've earned over their lifetimes....and then look at what they've got left, that they start to change their views about being taxed so much.

But yeah...he doesn't make as much as the bigger stars. Never has. ....But if he is paying 'half', like he is railing about, then he's in the top bracket. ....But then, that's the thing, half of $50 million, is still a lot....whereas, half of $1 million, is only $500K, so you can start out being a 'millionaire'....and after taxes, not be.

Jon Lovitz has been raising Phil's two kids as his own, which is why since the late 90's , he has not been such a big deal on TV and movies. He has taken time out to take care of his friends' children, to give them some kind of life.

You just don't get it do you? It isn't a matter of "liberty" or
"freedom of speech" at issue here. You have the liberty to criticize
Republicans or Conservatives. You can
even criticize libertarians if we don’t need them and they are white
males. You NEVER criticize a member of
the party elite in good standing.

Your foolish clinging to outdated ideals enshrined in a
piece of paper just shows how you are not a team player here. The name of the game is “Power over the
people” and the only allowable outcome is “winning.” That means you don’t criticize whatever
trained monkey we have running for whatever office. Why do you think we keep running idiots like Pelosi
and Reid? They are well trained monkeys
who will vote any way we tell them to. Just like we picked Joe Biden as Vice President
to make barack look Presidential.

Get with the program!
People NEVER pay their “fair share” look at Tim Geithner, for Gaia’s
sake! That man only paid in his taxes
because the press was dumb enough to actually admit he owed money. Do you think we get rich by paying what we
really owe? Nobody does! Everyone is a tax cheat, that’s why we have
to raise them higher to cover the costs of funneling more money into our pet
projects! We have votes to buy!

Quite pretending your special and get back in line, you
peasant. You will spout whatever line we
give you and like it!

144 "Wealth redistribution and an uber progressive tax system is a newer liberal mantra? Oh. "

Compared to today? I'm older than you. Old enough to remember Kennedy, who I believe, lowered taxes. And I also remember when the welfare state was promoted as a "temporary hand up" as opposed to the permanent way of life that modern liberals have become comfortable with. Something changed in the democratic party when the anti-war movement really took hold. The democratic party is much more left wing than it used to be.

I grew up around working class people who voted for dems. They did not hold the kind of "redistribution of wealth" views that many modern liberals hold. They were MUCH more moderate than the liberalism that you see promoted by news people and entertainers, and by people like Schumer and Pelosi. JFK would not be considered particularly liberal today.

He is perhaps talking more about "classical liberalism." It is about limited government, freedom and abiding the Constitution. That is why he says liberal as in freedom.

Mark Levin's Libery and Tyranny discusses this in length if you have it around. Liberalism is not, now, what it used to stand for. That is why Levin calls the left "Statists."

From Mark's book: "The Modern Liberal believes in the supremacy of the state.... For the Modern Liberal, the individual's imperfection and personal pursuits impede the objectives of a utopian state. In this, Modern Liberalism promotes what French Historian Alexis de Tocqueville called soft tyranny, which becomes increasingly more oppressive, partially leading to hard tyranny.... As the word "liberal" is, in its classical meaning, the opposite of authoritarian, it is more accurate, therefore, to characterize the Modern Liberal as a Statist."

155 AND, if he keeps this up, it won't be long before he starts seeing the left's Jew-hate.

He's Jewish?!?! When did this shit start?!?!?!?

156 If there's any hope of this guy turning to our side, sadly it will be because of the hatred and intolerance of his own side

Who knows? It might also be because a few secret "classical liberals" in showbiz will sidle up to him and say "You toooo?! Dude, let's talk."

157 Lovitz is a smart guy- went to Harvard Westlake with Lisa Kudrow's brother - but he'll never be a conservative.

I think when Lovitz said it he knew he would be gang-audited. Luckily, I convinced him to stop writing off his medical catheters in 2011.

160 We should call them progs and not liberals.

I agree to take "liberal" away from them with its connotations of freedom. And yet "progressive" is so wrong! I'll always have to use it with quotation marks which is a hassle, but I won't call someone who's marching backwards a "progressive" without some nod to irony.

161 They used to stone the apostates, didn't they? Lovitz is lucky he's only getting bombarded on Twitter.

162 >Jon Lovitz has been raising Phil's two kids as his own, which is why
since the late 90's , he has not been such a big deal on TV and movies.

I didn't know this. Liberal or not, that's a stand-up move right there.

163 Jon Lovitz would not have killed Bin Laden

165 I love this...maybe he will start campaigning for Mitt Romney he will get so angry.

The liberal wilting petunias are certainly showing their thin skin these days.

166 Jon Lovitz is too smart. He's not going to last long...

Anyways, Liberal is one of those words, like Minitrue, and Minilove...

167 Poor John Lovitz, he's almost there but he hasn't made the horrifying realization yet.
