| Media Matters IRS Application For Tax-Free Status States That The Group Fights "Christian Influence" In ReportingWell, I guess they're up front about it. Except, they're not:It's pretty absurd, right out of the box, to claim that the media -- not the supplemental, alternative media, but the media itself, in whole -- is too damned friendly to Christian thought, and this dangerous bias of NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, and CNN to curry favor with Christians must be combated. But what do I know. I'm a conservative, ergo anything I say or write is false and stupid. Obviously I just don't understand the proper interpretation of the facts. I think it was ace who recently noted what we've all noticed, which is that left-wingers see themselves as the underdogs. It's an essential part of their fantasy world-view.
They dominate academia, the media, almost all non-elected government posts, Hollywood, etc, but they still view themselves as the little guy standing up to Big Conservatism. Even communist dictators refer to the dissidents they murder as counter-revolutionaries. So yeah, I actually do think that Media Matters has willed themselves into believing that conservative Christians dominate the narrative. He said it's common, not pervasive. Keep in mind the twelve largest cable news shows, the nation's largest newspaper, and the two most popular radio programs lean heavily to the right. They don't all promote Christian ideas, but as MM says, it's common to see these views promoted in the mainstream media. Why MM feels the need to combat them (if they do) I don't know. Also, since the article you cite isn't sourced, you're relying on the Christian Broadcast Network's characterization of Media Matters' document. That's sort of like asking Dan Savage to provide a character reference for Rick Santorum. .02 Posted by: Jordan at April 20, 2012 04:12 PM (RSG1I) Posted by: huerfano at April 20, 2012 04:14 PM (bAGA/) 79

WSJ is mostly center in my book too. There's nothing ideological about business news. I think the editorial page leans right, though.

People WATCH them Don't worry Jordan, you can go to the airport or bus terminal and watch CNN for balance since your TV forces you to pray with Bill O'Reilly WSJ has a Republican leaning editorial page, their news articles are leftist prap that is indistiguishable from The Economist Posted by: kbdabear at April 20, 2012 04:32 PM (Y+DPZ) 116

Twelve largest cable news shows (2010): OReilly, Hannity, Glenn Beck, Greta, OReilly Factor Report, Shep Smith Report, Special Report with BB, Fox and Friends, America's Newsroom, Your World with Cavuto. All together they have the viewership of a couple of network news broadcasts. Wow. And all from one channel. LOL. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at April 20, 2012 04:33 PM (X3lox) 119

>>>it's common to see these views promoted in the mainstream media.
Um OK let me rephrase your statement to what you have implied. "If I look at a random news source it is common that it is conservative" That is false. When you look at the total number of outlets, the number promoting any sort of conservative slant is miniscule in comparison to those that support liberal slant. The actual number of viewers is irrelevant to your statement. Just if you select a news source it is common that it be conservative. It's not common, in fact it is very rare. Only a small fraction of all major media outlets have a conservative slant. Also, since the article you cite isn't sourced, you're relying on the Christian Broadcast Network's characterization of Media Matters' document. That's sort of like asking Dan Savage to provide a character reference for Rick Santorum
The video accompanying the cbn article shows a copy of the IRS document filed by MM and quotes directly from it, so you can see for yourself. Nice attempt at misdirection, though. Posted by: OregonMuse at April 20, 2012 04:36 PM (xm1A1) 128

If "congress shall make no law" has any meaning (I said "if"), then haven't MM just screwed themselves by explicitly stating that their position is based on religion?
I mean if some other org had applied for the same tax exemption, based on the idea that the other org was promoting a religious viewpoint, that other group would be turned down, right? So MM should also be turned down since it would mean the govt was granting favorable treatment specifically based on MM's religious views. /Too obvious? The total number of liberal and leftist leaning media sources and shows....is far bigger than the totalnumber of conservative leaning shows.
Liberal group-think also pervades the TV shows and programming on the three broadcast 'alphabet' networks. .....As well as movies, and music...so liberal dogma is being emitted on virtually every possible venue. It just pisses off people like Jordan that there are more people watching the conservative shows.....instead of availing themselves of all the liberal-laced menus out there.
