Obama Proposes Buffet Rule Just As He No Longer Would Be Hit By It

Just worked out that way.

He earned just under $800,000 in 2011, so he wouldn't be affected by the million-plus rule.

But...

The president did earn over $1 million in previous years--$1.7 million in 2010 and $5.5 million in 2009.

The Bidens, meanwhile, paragons of Middle Class Values, made just shy of $380,000, and managed, in this election year, to donate $5,540 to charity.

That's a marked improvement over the Bidens' previous record.

The Bidens reported giving $995 in charitable donations last year — about 0.3% of their income and the highest amount in the past decade. The low was $120 in 1999, about 0.1% of yearly income.

Over the decade, the Bidens reported a total of $3,690 in charitable donations, or 0.2% of their income.

Biden says he gives his time, man.

Biden spokesman David Wade said in an e-mail that the Bidens "also contribute to their favorite causes with their time as well as their checkbooks."

That's an average of $369 (yes, just three digits) per year for the last ten years.

Obama's also increased his giving for this election year -- knowing Romney gave away an awful lot, the Obamas now report giving 22% to charity.

However, the Obamas have made a lot more money in the past -- and gave just 5.7% to charity in 2007, an election year.

Correction: I screwed up my math. In 2010, paying their 2009 taxes, they gave 18% or so.

But does that number include the Nobel Prize money he wasn't legally allowed to keep? We can subtract that from his income and his giving to get a more accurate measure of philanthropy.

I'm glad the BiteMe's are so selfish. Every dollar they give to "charity" only goes to raise entropy, anyway. Lefty "charities" are almost never actually beneficial organizations or do any useful work. Usually, they are destructive orgs who take the money and cause more chaos in society.

Hello, I'm Hillary Rosen.

You might have seen me on MSNBC as a Democrat pundit, but did you know that I also have a school for public relations and apologies? It's true. Visit our website for more information.

And here's, Soothsayer, a recent graduate of HRSPRA, with a message for you.

Hi, everyone. As you all know I can sometimes be a bit harsh in the comments. At Hillary Rosen I have learned how to apologize, and now I'd like to do just that.

I am sorry that some of you are so stupid that you force me to react harshly to the idiotic things you leave in the comments.

Agreed - to an extent.

The thing is with mining / drilling / fracking / whatever, if the damage is a 5-point earthquake, that's an easy solution - do that shit in Wyoming where no-one lives, or in some place where no-one cares. Don't do it near Denver (it was in the 1960s and 70s around Denver where they first noticed the phenomenon, and started regulating mining / drilling as a result.)

Local environmental effects are easy to measure and duplicate. This is real science! So that's worth paying attention to ...

Global effects, not so much. And then you get the whole Third World and the NGOs wanting their payday. That's what gets you the real "green job!" boondoggles.

If I read some previous articles correctly, doesn't that depend on region? You basically had to be sitting on a fault where injecting fluid lubricates things enough that energy is released now, incrementally, instead of (much?) later in larger chunks.

Unless every frack job is on top of a fault, I don't think you can say that every frack is going to be causing quakes. The more scientifically accurate description is that you'd be increasing the probability of a quake, as a contributing factor, IMAO.

First in the 70's is was global cooling. They were warning of short food growing seasons, better stock on food. The winters will be too long and frigid to grow certain foods. Then when those 'scientist' were proved wrong because it never happened, they all jumped on the global warming bus. Now that those 'scientist' have been showned to be the frauds liars they are. The progressives had to find some new way of destroying our way of life. Whenever you find a study of X number of scientist that say ....whatever.... 182 Has anyone looked at exactly how the Obama's income was reported? So, is the number they reported an after deduction income? Essentially I'm wondering if they would have fallen under the Buffet rule but donated enough so that they didn't. Then reported their income after charitable deductions, etc.

183 I'm terrible at math, so I'll need someone to double check this and mock me for it:

X=pre donation income
172,130=x(.22)

Solve for x. It comes out to roughly their reported income, so perhaps there was no clever accounting trick. But once again, math is not my forte. I'm the guy who skipped over 70 math assignments my senior year and was more than satisfied with my C-.

184 I also know very little about taxes. The key may be this:

"He and the First Lady filed their income tax returns jointly and reported adjusted gross income of $789,674"

Do charitable deductions affect Adjusted Gross Income? I've hit my limit here.

188 It has also been reported that Obama gave his two daughters tax free gifts totalling $24,000, probably for their college funds. Hopefully in one of his"the seas will rise" speeches he will thank the American public for pitching in for his daughters education. What a pathetic con artist.

192 We have a Buffet rule already. It is called AMT. Why aren't these guys required to pay AMT of 26-28%
