NYT: NBC Fires Producer Responsible For Doctored Zimmerman "He's Black" Tape, But Refuses To Say Who

Thick as thieves.

The person was fired on Thursday, according to two people with direct knowledge of the disciplinary action who declined to be identified discussing internal company matters. They also declined to name the fired producer. A spokeswoman for NBC News declined to comment.

If I have this right, this guy's actual deceptive editing is covered up and hidden, but James O'Keefe's not deceptive editing is fashionable chatter in the leftist media even to this day?

Gee, whatever could account for that differing treatment.

It's too bad that John Edwards is a little preoccupied right now! He would smack this one out of the park as he channels George Zimmerman's old life that was drowned in the MFM's cesspool of malfeasance and lies. Even if he is exonerated in court, Zimmerman and his family will never have a normal life and be able to go back to being anonymous members of society. I don't think Zimmerman will ever be safe. 103 Romeo13@97,

I'm not talking about what Zimmerman would perceive. Of course it wasn't good faith and he would know that. There's the calculus NBC makes in what they think would occur from a civil suit and what could be accomplished in a settlement. By firing "responsible parties" they, NBC, would show a jury intent to correct a failure. By providing evidence of that action and its likelihood of helping them in a trial, they can reduce their offer to Team Zimmerman in a settlement. Zimmerman would then have to weigh that payout to the expected costs/payout of a civil trial wherein NBC did offer a something of a defense even while admitting offense.

Ok, I see. So there was bad blood between Breitbart and CJ over that, right? That would explain the shit slinging about the current site, and the posters there. CJ has been hammering them for comments made recently concerning the Martin debacle. All sorts of nasty crap has been showing up, and I'd bet the farm they're having a troll infestation, and CJ is jumping all over it.

The problem has been addressed now, however.

106 "Three, these (libel) law suits are very very tricky and difficult to win."

The fuck they are. George Zimmerman isn't a "public figure."

NBC News settled with Richard Jewell after they libeled him for $500,000. The New York Post also settled (undisclosed amount.) The Atlanta Journal-Constitution only got away with it because Jewell died at a very young age before his suit against them could come to trial.

110 "There's the calculus NBC makes in what they think would occur from a civil suit and what could be accomplished in a settlement. By firing "responsible parties" they, NBC, would show a jury intent to correct a failure."

Except by firing ONLY ONE person, NBC would be demonstrating this is only a whitewash. Executive Producers don't work alone in editing booths. There was a whole cadre of people who knew this duplicitous edit was taking place; and those people have not been fired.

A jury might conclude that NBC was just trying to deflect criticism; and not actually attempting to correct any failures of their reporting and editing teams.

111 Does anyone know what the deal with PJ media and Charles Johnson is? What in particular transpired there?

He was a founding member and then pulled out of the venture when he starting losing it over creationists in Texas and Glenn Beck. CJ was a hard hitting guy against terrorism, the Arab/Israeli Conflict, and media bias before he lost his mind and went full on the Obama kool-aid.

112 If you're keeping score at home, it might be a good time for a recap of all the media missteps in the Zimmerman Railroading:

* NBC News selectively edited Zimmerman's 911 call to make him seem like a racist.

* The Orlando Sentinel quoted a "voice biometric expert" who turns out to have bogus credentials. Turns out he sells the software he was touting for $5,000 a copy.

* Voice biometrician Tom Owen also told the Orlando Sentinel he requires 90% match before he would conclude the voice crying out for help on the 911 call is Zimmerman's - but when he is testifying in court in murder trails, he claims he only needs a 68% match. Now tells CNN he only requires a 60% match.

* The Orlando Sentinel quoted a second "voice biometric expert" who matched a voice on 911 to Trayvon Martin, even though there is no recording for him to compare Trayvon Martin's voice to.

* Spike Lee tweeted Zimmerman's home address - created controversy when he tweeted an incorrect address and had to settle out of court for the emotional pain and threats the elderly couple suffered.

* People Magazine and New York Times claimed Zimmerman shot Martin twice (therefore demonstrating hate). Police still say he was only shot once and recovered a gun with a full clip. The Times has subsequently changed their reporting, but never issued a retraction. People has not corrected their story.

* The New York Times reported that Trayvon Martin weighed only 150 pounds, but used a 2-year-old photo of him as a 14-year-old instead of a more recent one they had in their possession where he is far larger and 17 years old.

* The Washington Post claimed Trayvon Martin was a good student - but then it was discovered that he was kicked out of school for possession of burglary tools and a bunch of women's jewelry he couldn't explain.

* The New York Times claimed Zimmerman called 911 a total of 48 times in just 14 months in attempt to make him seem craaaaaazzzzzzy. Then it was revealed by NPR that those 48 calls happened over a period of eight years, not 14 months, prompting a correction by the Times.

* The New York Times claimed Zimmerman outweighed Martin by 100 pounds - then they had to admit later that the true weight difference was as little as 20 pounds.

* Barack Obama's Department of Justice has refused to press charges against the New Black Panther Muslim terrorist organization for conspiring to have Zimmerman kidnapped by offering a $10,000 bounty on his head.

The important thing to note here is that all the mistakes, overreaches and outright lies ALWAYS go one way ... they never help Zimmerman and always hurt Zimmerman's case.

114 someguy: "A jury might conclude that NBC was just trying to

All true and an entirely plausible scenario. But the pre-trial settlement phase is to convince Team Zimmerman that NBC did do something (in order to avoid the crapshoot of a jury trial) and that to go after NBC for being wholly irresponsible has some risk. I think a better argument from a juror perspective is that "NBC sucked and we'll punish them, but the punishment will be a bit less that we could've punished them."

Juries typically try to find a balance of fairness even if they think someone erred terribly. Most civil trials are not Hollywood endings wherein a slam dunk evil guy hands over its fortune to the sympathetic victim. I believe this (if a termination does happen) is the measured response the NBC shirts are betting to be the outcome. They'll lose a suit but they won't lose it as bad as some would hope. So, they'll use that argument to establish a lower baseline settlement to preempt a trial and hope it all goes away. If Zimmerman finds that return reasonable, they'll all avoid the ugliness and unpredictability of the court system.

120 Legal liability! If Zimmerman is innocent, his next move will be awesome to watch. NBC, CNN, NYT (now early silent on the case, as Tom Maguire points out) are all lining up to pay the Zimmermans. Who's that batshit crazy TV actress from the eighties? Oh yeah, Roseanne Barr- she's paying too.

123 Anyone figure out yet if Martin's Dad's GF actually lived in the subdivision, or was Martin just casing the neighborhood next to the neighborhood where his Dad's GF actually lived?

Not that it matters much since his own Dad implied he wasn't supposed to be there - Dad thought Martin was staying with a cousin that, not Dad GF - therefore Martin was trespassing after dark AKA prowling.

125 You know, you just got to hand it to Trayvon, what other brother would go out in the rain and walk, who knows how far, just to get his little brother some skittles. now thats a brother. Never mind that he went the long way through a gated community where you didn't belong, he had to get them skittles.

126 The anonymity of those who try to provoke race riots must be preserved. It's in the Constitution. Freedom of the press.

I bought a wine press so I could be free, too. I keep it in my trunk to show to cops who try to stop me for speeding. Or starting riots.
