Happy Thursday.

Actor Don Cheadle slammed NBC yesterday on Twitter for its deceptive Zimmerman coverage. Twitchy has the story.

If you haven't watched the RNC's video that Lauraw posted yesterday, go watch it now. Lauraw had some notable things to say about. For my part, I was struck by just how poor Obama's delivery of this speech was both times he gave it. Stop. Stutter. Restart. Stacking the speeches up like that should put to rest the liberal fantasy that Obama is a great orator. (Yes, I know it likely won't.)

Google has gone public with its augmented reality glasses. The project is not-so-cleverly named "Project Glass."

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday (Maundy Thursday), April 5th, 2012. On this day in 1933 FDR signed two executive orders (neither of which he had authority to do). He established the Civilian Conservation Core which was a new department to hire workers for public works and he issued an order forbidding the "hoarding" of gold coins and bullion. Thus with a keystroke he solves the country's impending debt problem by inflating the money supply. I hope all this sounds familiar because this, among a lot of other things, is the same thing we are doing now. The difference is the debt has grown to catastrophic proportions and the money is already almost worthless. Time magazine warned us when Barky was elected with that picture of him riding in a convertible dressed and acting like FDR.

Of course, if they read shit like this article from the Hill, which devoted 90% of the article to Dems and 5% to a quack university guy, who doesn't know shit you can see why stupid people will believe them.

5 Coulter and Michelle Malkin going at it over comments AC made about Palin. I side with MM on this one, but I have to say that it appears to me that AC has become increasing irrelevant and she is simply trying to gin up another controversy. She has often done this in the past. She will throw out a fire bomb and soon the TV show appearances and book sales rise. I quit reading her books and columns long ago. Perhaps it is time to start ignoring her.

18 That voter ID shit, as well as the redistricting fights this year, are just a ploy by the Democrats to try to hinder the elections for 2012. The MFM is covering their ass for both of them.

When they go to court they do not have a leg to stand on and will lose. Of course in some cases they have screwed up the damn primaries and may even delay some of the elections.

Perhaps the Republicans should sue them for blocking elections with frivolous cases.

What I find interesting about the whole speculator thing is that it is not a given that speculating on higher (or lower) prices is a sure thing with no risk. It is a "bet" (more properly a carefully reasoned estimate of a future market that can be impacted by many many imponderables (war, weather, earthquakes, etc.).

Of course with Barky, Bernanke, and Chu working "for" us, it IS a sure bet that oil prices will go up for a long time!

Only Republicans would do this:

Withstanding criticism, Pa. lawmakers vote to reduce the size of the legislature

A bill to reduce the size of the Pennsylvania legislature withstood a battery of criticism to easily clear the state House on Wednesday, the first such vote by lawmakers to trim their own ranks in 45 years.

The bill, which passed 140-49, would reduce the House from 203 seats to 153 and the Senate from 50 senators to 38 - thus relieving the state of the dubious distinction of having America's second-biggest state legislature.
...
House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R., Allegheny) praised the bill as an example of the Republican-led effort to "rightsize" government. "We stand for smaller government," Turzai said, "including a smaller legislature."

----------
BTW -- the article says: "Dissenters in both parties, rural and urban, spent two hours on the floor Wednesday arguing against the bill." but only quotes two Democrat opponents.

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (Reuters) - Half a decade into the deepest
U.S. housing crisis since the 1930s, many Americans are hoping the
crisis is finally nearing its end. House sales are picking up across
most of the country, the plunge in prices is slowing and attempts by
lenders to claim back properties from struggling borrowers dropped by
more than a third in 2011, hitting a four-year low.

But a painful part two of the slump looks set to unfold: Many
more U.S. homeowners face the prospect of losing their homes this year
as banks pick up the pace of foreclosures.

"We are right back where we were two years ago. I would put
money on 2012 being a bigger year for foreclosures than 2010," said Mark
Seifert, executive director of Empowering Strengthening Ohio's
People (ESOP), a counseling group with 10 offices in Ohio.

Yes. Until recently, the joke was that Mac wasn't even supported by the hackers. Now that they have growing market share, they'll be getting just as many viruses as Windows does- and windows has several companies (besides themselves) working simultaneously to block and clean viruses. Mac has no such system in place yet, to my knowledge.

So it'll be a rocky year or so for mac users (as a conservative guess), but then they'll get used to it like those of us in the World of Windows have- you learn how to avoid them all together pretty quickly, actually.

There are a few immune spots like in Chesterfield near Richmond, et al. But up here you can literally find the worst neighborhoods and then note that they can't process the vote (I guess they yell racist if you question it) then notice that they bring in just enough votes to push the election over the top. In Alexandria City when Euille (who has become a serious radical of late) ran against Bill Cleveland for mayor, Euille came up with exactly enough votes to beat him deep in the night and from Cora Kelly.

A "path to legal status" is a path to citizenship- unless citizenship is specifically forbidden when you take this "path to legal status." And then good luck getting it passed- Conservatives will still hate it (or at least not be happy with it) because we happen to believe the laws as they exist are a little to lenient, and Liberals will still hate it because it "prevents them from ever achieving the American Dream" or some such clap-trap.

178 Saw the RNC video. It was enlightening, but I'm not a huge fan of taking clips and splicing like that. Too much opportunity for mischief (see: Zimmerman audio about Trayvon's race). Not exactly news that pols spout the same lines over and over again.

I do think it's valid to take clips where they lie and later contradict themselves, or where they inadvertantly reveal what they really think.

Anyway, I agree that there is a widespread myth about Obama being a great orator. Libs eat this stuff up. But it seems there is always a theme in the media that whoever the lib candidate is, he or she is a great intellectual and an articulate speaker; and that the R candidateis a stumbling moron who barely made it through school. I mean Al Gore was a horrible, obnoxious speaker and far from the brightest bulb, but he was portrayed as a knowledgable, accomplished guy who was ahead of the curve on AGW.

I looked on the Sunday Book thread and didn't see a fucking thing there which is unfortunate because he should be a moron favorite for a lot of reasons: He loved cooter, alc, muscle cars, sports and every fucking thing to do with the South. I don't know what led me to get "All We Need of Hell" back in the late 80s but once I read the first paragraph, about a man who's thinking about Hitler and concentration camps to keep from spooging early and trying to satisfy his brutally frigid wife, I was pretty much hooked for life. "A Feast of Snakes" was probably his best work but every one I've read has something to recommend it no matter how weird, such as "The Knockout Artist" and "Body". RIP to a true original.

212 Don Cheadle was in the Ocean's Eleven movies.

I read the Twitchy stuff and am still a little uncertain as to what prompted him to speak the truth about NBC's editing because he is most definitely not off the Liberal reservation. (He was defending Al Sharpton AND the idea that Black conservatives should expect to be smeared and attacked.) But it's still a good sign.

My husband is not a news junkie the way I am (although he is still very conservative). A lot of his news comes from "mainstream" feeds like Yahoo. So I use him as a touchstone to see what the general public is getting. Anyway, a couple of days ago he said, when asked, that it's clear to anyone paying attention that there was major tampering/news framing/bias going on in the Trayvon Martin story.

234 The MSM *will* use Mitt's religion against him. No doubt about it. But I don't see any purpose in Orrin blathering about it. It comes off as whining. Moreover, earlier in the campaign Team Mitt was quick to cry "bigot" and point fingers when it was not justified (for example, at Perry over comments by the Repulsive Reverend), so it rings pretty hollow to hear complaints about it now.

What are we supposed to do about it? Are we pretending that individuals don't factor in all sorts of non-political factors into their voting decisions? I think we all have our criteria, including things like personal belief systems, that we apply. I certainly have read the "I would never vote for a..." viewpoint expressed on more than one occasion here and elsewhere.

The LDS Church has a huge marketing operation already up and running to try to address the Church's image issues. And I'm sure Romney has a plan as well. That's about all that can be done.

The bastard is way too young for that since she was born during Clinton's Monica problems; plus the mush-mouthed grifter is being sued for lack of child support, which I'm sure won't be the most shocking thing you'll hear today.

242 @239
I don't doubt it. That would be illegal.

The Church's marketing campaign started over a year ago. I am not saying it's coordinated with Romney's campaign. But it's in place and underway, so that should be helpful in countering the MSM stuff. I think they are better equipped to correct untrue statements about the church than non-LDS folks are.

I am pretty offended by how Mitt's circle smeared Santorum (who is not my guy, but who was basically ridiculed for expressing Roman Catholic doctrine) and Perry (who was accused of being a bigot based on ZERO evidence). So it is a bit rich to hear Mummified Senator Hatch whining about unfair attacks on his guy.

244 It has gotten to the point that the only time I watch Fox News is for "Special Report" and that is mainly for the panel discussion in the last 20 minutes. Shepard Smith used to appear fairly objective. Not anymore. Doesn't he appear gaunt lately? Maybe teh AIDS.

245 Playing catchup now:

My understanding is that KSM withdrew his guilty plea.

On the Rubio "dream act"; anytime you here a politician offer citizenship for military service you know he is lying. They already have a program for that. It sounds like his program is very much like the Democrats program. So yes, he has gone off the reservation. I don't see him as a conservative anymore since he is now adopting Democrat pandering to illegals. And no, the TX "dream act" didn't do any of that shit.

And finally on the shitty judges and cops in MA and CT, I don't see that as a problem with the death penalty. I see that as a problem with the politicians and the people who continue to vote the corrupt Democrat SOBs into office.

R.I.P. Harry Crews, one of my personal faces.

"Feast of Snakes" is good.

But, if you can find his early novels (Good Luck!), they're even better.

"Gypsy's Curse" may be my favorite.

"Karate is a Thing of the Spirit" is also great.

"Car" is fun though not as great as the first two.

Crews was a one of a kind. Turning Faulknerian and Gabriel Garcia marquez type characters into great black humor novels written in a clean easily read prose.

RIP.

249 Y-not,

"Mitt's circle" accused Perry of being a bigot? Since when is Herman Cain part of Mitt's circle? Next you'll accuse "Mitt's circle" of bringing up Gardasil. Or having a fit over the "heartless" remark. People like Michelle Malkin made the biggest deal of both Gardisil and "heartless": was Malkin a Mittbot?

And "Mitt's circle" "smeared" Santorum for expressing Catholic doctrine? When and where? There was strong criticism of some of Santorum's over-the-top statements (over and beyond his Catholicism), and IIRC the strongest of those articles came as much from Newt supporters (e.g. Dorothy Rabinowitz) as any Romney supporters.

The "smearing"-- if you're talking about something other than merely quoting Santorum's own words, e.g. calling him a "theocrat"-- came from the liberal MSM.

Sorry to quibble, but IMO this meme of Romney "smearing" all the other candidates (and absolving all the other candidates-- Bachmann, Cain, Perry, Newt, and Santorum-- of any "smearing") isn't very accurate.

253 Y-not, speaking as a Catholic, Rick Santorum is NOT expressing the doctrine of the Church. He is merging some aspects of doctrine with things that strike well with the far-right evangelicals. For example, the Church's view on marriage does not include women staying home and not having careers, nor does it require making little snide remarks about using pink bowling balls.

And by the way, while I have seen him in plenty of evangelical churches recently, I have not seen a photo of him leaving a mass, which is part of being a good Catholic.

He does not speak for the Church, and I do not want him portraying himself as what the Catholic faith is about. He's a bad example .

He may be considering leaving the faith to join the protestant brothers and sisters, judging by his comments when asked by a reporter why Catholics are not supporting him at the ballot box. He took a shot at those of his own religion by indicating they weren't really serious about their faith.___ reference: WaPo March 21 On Faith section, posted 3:34 pm. ___(sorry, didn't feel like doing the tinyurl thing.)

(Lack of support among Catholics hasnothing to do with his commentary about JFK's separation of church and state speech making him want to throw up, you see. Nothing at all.)

There's no evidence that Rick Santorum discriminates against women in his hiring practices.

If you are worried about the role of women in marriages, you are focusing on the wrong candidate.
