| NBC Calls Its Deliberate, Frame-Up Editing of George Zimmerman an "Error;" Washington Post Then Calls It A "Screw-Up"Let's compare this to the O'Keefe Acorn tapes. It has been routinely stated by the media, as if a fact, that the Acorn tapes were "deceptively edited." This is despite the fact that there was no deception, and no intent to deceive. (They are referring to the opening credits and interstitial shots of a ludicrously pimp-garbed O'Keefe, walking with a pimp-cane and stuff -- this is plainly comedy shot afterwards like a skit, not the Acorn tapes revelations.) Now we have the media deliberately editing George Zimmerman to fit their "racist" narrative. When NBC’s “Today” show aired George Zimmerman’s 911 call to police, here is what the audience heard:NBC's accounting of the facts, in its correction, is itself false. It was not an "error" to do this. It was done deliberately. NBC's "error" claim conjures images of a sound editor accidentally brushing a dial with his wrist as he reached for his coffee. No, this was deliberately cooked, as so much of this story is. The Washington Post, however, wisely refrains from following NBC in its "error" dishonesty. They go so far as to brand it a "screw-up." Oh: And NBC won't name the "error" prone editor, nor will it say if any punishment has attached to this error. And they do not apologize to George Zimmerman for defaming him.Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.Wow. “Looks up to no good” followed by “He looks black” sounds like Zimmerman made a conclusion of “no good” based upon an observation of being “black.” That would lend credence to the racism angle. The problem is the conversation was edited by NBC to look that way. Here is the unedited version:Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about. Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic? Zimmerman: He looks black. So the assertion “He looks black” was in direct response to a question about what color Treyvon appears to be. Zimmerman was right – he looks black. Zimmerman was not making any connection between skin color and being good or bad. Comments1

I still would like to know if there is any verification that he had
"skillets and IT" on him when found or if he even went to the store. I don't know that we've ever seen an accounting of his personal effects at the time of his death. Even if he didn't have them on him, that doesn't mean he hadn't gotten them. That said, it's highly unlikely- his family/supporters have already been shown to be lying in some cases, that makes me much less likely to believe them in this one. OTOH, "Skittles" is apparently slang for some drug or other, and Arizona Iced Tea (the specific brand he is said to have had- another reason I don't believe the story), is famous- at least here in DFW- for being the beverage of choice to spike with various illicit substances. To the point that Dallas (in typical liberal, ham-handed fashion) considered banning the drink from convenience stores (luckily they dropped that). How much can Zimmerman get in a Libel lawsuit over this?
I'd want at least $1 million, a public apology, a full accounting, and at least two people fired (the person who did the edit, and the top ranking person who approved it). That would be my "I won't sue if ..." position. Lawsuit? Well, full discovery on what happened, publicly released, and $10 million (since I don't think you can get someone fired as part of a lawsuit). But that's just me. What can he legitimately go for? Not a lawyer but for slander/libel you have to prove actual malice. NBC will claim good faith in that the lone editor working on that particular story believed it to be an accurate copy of the tape. The affiliate that edited the tape will claim it was only meant for voice analysis or some other bs.

My sig links to Examiner story about Trayvon being in the morgue for three (3) days.
I caught so many errors so quickly that I'm not finishing that. And I don't believe a word (because of said errors). Among others: Trayvon's dad didn't live in the community- his dad's fiance did. While it seems like it's a minor difference, it could be a huge reason that Trayvon wasn't recognized (he didn't live there), and their insistence on pushing that line shows they want people to be outrageously outraged that the police didn't "ask neighbors if they recognized him." I still think that NBC has managed to leap over the tremendously high NYT v. Sullivan hurdle (yes, vic, I know you disagree). I'm going to keep hammering away at this point because if this does not rise to the level of actual malice, let alone reckless disregard for the truth or falsity of the statement, then I cannot see any statement that would. I would far rather than the court admit that there is an absolute bar to slander/libel suits against the MFM then the current state.
Which, again, is not to state that Zimmerman would win but this should be enough to get past the judgment on the pleadings and probably summary judgment. Posted by: alexthechick - SMOD 2012 at April 04, 2012 01:24 PM (VtjlW) 104

Not a lawyer but for slander/libel you have to prove actual malice. NBC
will claim good faith in that the lone editor working on that particular story believed it to be an accurate copy of the tape. The affiliate that edited the tape will claim it was only meant for voice analysis or some other bs. Unless you can find an email from an NBC editor that says, "Hey, punch this up a bit. We want to highlight the racial angle," you're pretty much SOL. **** I don't think that is necessarily true. Given the need for a finding of actual malice, that means that they either knew it was untrue at the time they broadcast it or that they acted with reckless disregard as to whether it was true when they broadcast it. Given the obvious bias of NBC combined with the obvious inflammatory nature of the material they should have made some effort to verify its authenticity prior to broadcast. Apparently they made absolutely no such effort. Sounds like reckless disregard to me. Posted by: WalrusRex at April 04, 2012 01:25 PM (Hx5uv) 107

And they do not apologize to George Zimmerman for defaming him.
******************** That is the sickening part--they loftily apologize to their audience as *if* they have higher standards and "accidentally" did not provide the whole truth. Zimmerman--who they have conducted a non-sopt trial against in the Court of Public Opinion--they cannot be bothered to toss him an apology. And let's be clear here- the only reason NBC is apologizing to their audience for their lack of standards--dare we mention ethics is because- NBC got caught at it. I'm with WalrusRex. NBC is going to have to work really hard to prove they didn't act with "reckless disregard" for the truth. Which means Zimmerman can get discovery to try to prove the "reckless disregard". Which means that, at a minimum, he can force a real investigation, not a whitewash.

And the Dems wouldn't give "permission" for some of the Republican Congresscritters to go down there and check it out for themselves? And then it got dropped like a hot potato? Same thing with the "Oil Spill" crisis - they wouldn't let ANYONE fly over the site, because if they did, they'd realize that there wasn't anything there? I did come across a Seattle Times article, “At heart of Trayvon Martin death, a one-minute mystery,” which closes with some statements from Sanford Police Chief Lee: In an interview two weeks after the incident, Chief Lee said witness statements and physical evidence backed up Zimmerman's version of events. He suggested that based on the timing of the call, he believed that Trayvon went out of his way to approach the person tailing him and mouth off…… "We can't discount (Zimmerman's) story, based on — not evidence we put anywhere, not testimony we put in anybody's mouth — but testimony of witnesses who were there, that called, and the physical evidence that's there. You can't refute it," Lee said in the early interview. "The conclusions that are drawn from the basic information is that George Zimmerman shoots a 17-year-old kid with a bag of Skittles and an Arizona iced tea can. And you know, those are facts: George Zimmerman did shoot Trayvon Martin, and Trayvon Martin did have a bag of Skittles and an Arizona iced tea. "The fact that he had a bag of Skittles and an Arizona iced tea does not have anything to do with the facts of why George Zimmerman thought he needed to use deadly force." Remember during the Atlanta Olymp ic games, there was an explosion (which Eric Rudolf eventually pled guilty to doing) which killed a woman.
NBC and the Atlanta Journal Constitution and other media outletsinitially reported that a security guard named Richard Jewell had saved lives by discovering the bomb. Three days later those same outlets reversed themselves and claimed Jewell was considered a suspect. They ruined his life. He eventually prevailed, and settled with the media outlets that smeared him. It took a toll on him, he died a couple of years ago of natural causes at the age of 44. Google or wikipedia his name, it's a sad sad story. Posted by: Boots at April 04, 2012 02:03 PM (neKzn) 144

ABC News hid Zimmerman's injuries! Two days ago, ABC News aired a segment (http://tinyurl.com/dy27ydl) in which they claimed the original footage of the police surveillance video (tinyurl.com/cvbff42) was enhanced, revealing "possible injuries" to the back of George Zimmerman's head. However, ABC News was not truthful in reporting that the first video footage was the original. In fact, the first footage that ABC News aired was a murky copy made by recording the video as it played on a screen/monitor. The camera used was human-held as is evident by the tell-tale wobbling picture. Furthermore, several seconds into the first footage aired by ABC News, the camera operator actually pans the camera to center the picture because the edge of the screen/monitor is visible in the shot. However, this so-called "enhanced" video shows footage that is perfectly steady and has a visible date/time stamp – which is consistent with a permanently mounted security camera. This "enhanced" version appears to be the original footage, or a slightly tweaked version of the original to cover ABC News' lies. They reported the screen recorded copy was used to produce the "enhanced" copy, which is not only false, but impossible. They entire tale was made up whole cloth. THIS is why the quality of the first video they released was so bad – it was intentionally bad. Why didn't ABC News air the original video footage from the start; or report that the footage initially aired was actually recorded from a screen/monitor and therefore, the quality was significantly compromised? Whoever operated the camera to record the first version released, had to have seen a much clearer picture than the public was shown. ABC News withheld the original footage and played what looks to be a sick joke, instead. They aired a poor quality screen-recorded copy captured by someone physically holding a camera, presented it as the original footage, and then reported that the security video did not show any injuries – which contradicted George Zimmerman's claims. ABC News intentionally obfuscated Zimmerman's wounds and then acted like they broke some scoop after they realized the genuine footage would eventually come out should Zimmerman be charged with a crime. Then they had the wherewithal to pretend like they did some honest reporting and went out of their way to have the video enhanced to find the truth. This is unacceptable.
