Things I Never Thought I'd Write Department: Keith Olbermann Fired From a Job
Olbermann's Statement Added

Unprecedented!

Current TV said Friday afternoon that it had terminated the contract of its lead anchor Keith Olbermann, scarcely one year after he was hired to reboot the fledgling channel in his progressive political image.

Mr. Olbermann did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Current indicated that he had failed to honor the terms of his five-year, $50 million contract, giving the channel the right to terminate it.

This could be jockeying for position as far as the settlement, but that does seem to be an aggressive posture, no? So even if there's to be a settlement, they seem ready to push their rights and make it as small as possible.

A statement from the company states:

"Current was also founded on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers. Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it.”

Olbermann will not even be afforded the opportunity to sign off and say good bye. As I said, aggressive.

The vote on this, by senior managers at the outfit? Unanimous.

Olbermann's Statement: Just getting it up, haven't read it yet.

My full statement:

I'd like to apologize to my viewers and my staff for the failure of Current TV.
Editorially, Countdown had never been better. But for more than a year I have been imploring Al Gore and Joel Hyatt to resolve our issues internally, while I've been not publicizing my complaints, and keeping the show alive for the sake of its loyal viewers and even more loyal staff. Nevertheless, Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt, instead of abiding by their promises and obligations and investing in a quality news program, finally thought it was more economical to try to get out of my contract.

It goes almost without saying that the claims against me implied in Current's statement are untrue and will be proved so in the legal actions I will be filing against them presently. To understand Mr. Hyatt’s “values of respect, openness, collegiality and loyalty,” I encourage you to read of a previous occasion Mr. Hyatt found himself in court for having unjustly fired an employee. That employee’s name was Clarence B. Cain. http://nyti.ms/HueZsa

Um. Well, I'm sure Current can't point to any of Olbermann's history to demonstrate he's a problem employee.

In due course, the truth of the ethics of Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt will come out. For now, it is important only to again acknowledge that joining them was a sincere and well-intentioned gesture on my part, but in retrospect a foolish one. That lack of judgment is mine and mine alone, and I apologize again for it.

It's this same non-business mentality that has driven the leftwing media into the shitter and prompted their complaints about everything other than their complete inability to unfuck their business models.

There are so many outlets for liberal/progressive/leftist opinion mongering that the market is beyond saturation. And their echo chamber is so loud that all it takes is for one other outlet to come from center right that they can only react with histrionic shitfits about crazy rightwingers.

Meanwhile, that one center-right network kills them in ratings and profits.

Seems to me that if Kennedy finds the magic solution to keep Obamacare alive, anything is possible for government. Just get a 60 seat Senate, a majority in the House and make any law you want. Like Liberals have a 100% tax rate and are no longer allowed to vote. That seems like it would solve things once and for all.

But I still dislike him to a tremendous degree. 208 Two beggards in one day. I sense desperation.

Ten votes per precinct in Ohio decided the 2004 election. That's it.
The difference between winning and losing in November could literally
come down to whether we hire an organizer in May -- or whether we hire
one a month earlier. That's because each organizer makes sure we reach
hundreds of voters every week. And every single vote counts.
We face a major fundraising deadline tomorrow: Will you pitch in $3 or more today to make sure we hire as many organizers as possible and support everything we have to do right now, when it counts for more?
You can watch the progress in real time: (link to website)
We've worked out that it costs just about $32,000, including salary and
supplies, to bring a field organizer onto our team from now until
Election Day. Let's see -- with your help -- how many we're able to
hire.
Please pitch in $3 or more to help out today: (another link)
If a handful of votes in each precinct doesn't mean much to you right
now, just imagine how much it could matter on Election Day. These
organizers might cost about $32,000 to us today, but they're worth far
more than that to this organization and the future of our country. None
of us wants to see the progress we've made these last three years rolled
back.
Thanks for helping to make sure we're way ahead -- not a handful behind.

235 Speaking of CT:

A Connecticut condominium owner has been told by the complex's management association that she must remove a Jewish religious symbol or face fines, advocates told FoxNews.com.
Barbara Cadranel, an internationally-renown harpsichordist living in Stratford, Conn., contacted the Connecticut Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League earlier this month to report that she had been told by the California Condo Association to remove the mezuzah -- a small object inscribed with Hebrew verses from the Torah placed on the doorpost of a Jewish family's home -- or face fines of $50 per day, according to ADL's Connecticut Regional Director Gary Jones.

In due course, the truth of the ethics of Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt will come out. For now, it is important only to again acknowledge that joining them was a sincere and well-intentioned gesture on my part, but in retrospect a foolish one. That lack of judgment is mine and mine alone, and I apologize again for it. http://tl.gd/gnlt4t · Reply

So far, on the six o'clock segment, which is normally a repeat of the five o'clock segment, which had the audio file as the first story, the story has not been shown.

For most employees that's true in most states, but for guys like Oberdouche they actually have employment contracts that state the conditions under which they can be fired.

I have a feeling that the company was well within it's rights to give him the axe though, I doubt they would have done it without making sure all their i's were dotted and their t's were crossed.

485 Open Notepad, copy and paste to that. Then right click, select all, copy. Then paste onto the comments here

Thanks, kbdabear. I had all of the Kos comments together and tried the copy/paste thing using my email but that didn't work. Will try Notepad next time.

486 Is there anything more satisfying than angry blue on blue lawfare? Maybe if Kim Jong Un declared war on Cuba. "

Hopefully Gore will have better lawyers this time.. but then again, no matter who loses, I win. Wow.. ok, starting to like this more and more.

why would anyone ever agree to pay Keef 50 million dollars? Geez/
Liberals need to be taxed at higher rates. Can't we just take all
libtard money and fix the earth with it and tell them to shut the ufck
up?

Yeah , fifty fucking millions?!! For olby.

The Guinness book of World Records would have to be on hand to count the number of times he took the 5th.. I'll bet he'll blow the old record right out of the water.

Lol.. don't think the current redhead blog assistant would appreciate that much but I'll ask when she gets here.

490 Is it too much to hope that Olby has Watergate like tapes of Gore in all of this?

He'll drop the lawsuit when he finds out "taking the fifth" doesn't mean downing a bottle of vodka.

Yup.. say him today on the production floor in fact. I waved. He didn't wave back.

Hmm.. maybe it was my cologne?

Must be, otherwise I can't imagine why he doesn't want to be friendsies with you! Oh well, you've made some other good friends lately.

I'm surprised he's still there though. Maybe he didn't send any of the threats himself.

497 Olbermann to do play-by-play on Versus channel's Ivy League Game of the Week (it's like football, except it sucks).

500 Olberman's hiring David (0-12) Boies to press his suit.
Not to litigate his grievance against Current.
To iron out the wrinkles in his too-tight Alexander Julian.

501 "Must be, otherwise I can't imagine why he doesn't want to be friendsies with you! Oh well, you've made some other good friends lately."

I even offered to help out with his petition to become Queen of France. But you know if I had to choose between Che-boy, Wolverine, Hummingbird or any of the rest of the crew.. lol.. well Che-boy would not be my first choice by any stretch of the imagination.

"I'm surprised he's still there though. Maybe he didn't send any of the threats himself."

He may not have, or it may be they just can't prove it. I may be wrong but from what I understand they caught the others because they signed on to gmail or hotmail using a terminal from work.

It might be that he signed on from home, which folks more knowledgeable than I have said would require on or more isp's to cooperate with the companies investigation to prove. I guess most are pretty reluctant to honor such requests.

So who knows, he may never actually get fired for it, heck he might not even have sent one himself. But if anything I've been rather enjoying watching him squirm, and he's made himself and the other che-bot's persona non grata in the lunchroom.

I guess they are all doing a picnic thing for now.

In that case all they had to do was plop a bunch of those OWSers in giant t.v. lounges.

Or maybe they tried it and everyone fled back to their leaky tents.

Gore as is good at spotting talent as he is global warming. Or hookers that will keep it quiet. Good job Keef. Sometimes when your a douchebag, shit just comes back to bite you. But take heart Keef. You can now spend some time in San Fran'sCastro district, cruising for dates and finishing your novel. "How to become the biggest Douchenozzle in America", forward by Chris Matthews. Keef is destined to an overnight slot on satellite somewhere. Or if nothing else some behind the wheel of Rachel Maddow's strap on.

518 First Rosie and now Keith - in the space of a week?!? How are the Libs going to cope?

As an aside, I should have sued Al Gore for naming his network after me. Yes, my last name is Current.

But alas, I didn't trademark or copywrite my name.

That's how us conservatives roll.

Posted by: currently at March 31, 2012 03:34 AM (flA6l)

519 Oh no, I just read my post. I wrote copywrite wrong. I meant copyright. I think that's right.

Posted by: currently at March 31, 2012 03:51 AM (flA6l)

520 Did Current TV simply use Keith to gain attention and higher ratings? They KNEW what they were getting! Keith injects emotion into his commentary, his intelligent and incisive reporting, his humor, and his relationships....all of which makes his program so interesting. You FEEL his pain, you FEEL his anger, and you FEEL his heart-felt sincerity when he covers a story. He's never just a talking head! If Keith is absent from Current TV, then I too will be absent from Current TV. Keith is one of the best- hands down; as shown by is coverage of OWS, which was outstanding. I wish him well and hope he is back on the air soon. We need his unique voice.
