The Awesome - But Soon To Be Banned - 'Pork-Eating Crusader' Patches
Well the Afghanis may have gotten tired of American troops, but the Americans have also grown weary of being viewed as sub-human by the backward and benighted culture they're trying to help. And GI Joe ain't a bloomin' fool:
In the wake of the recent setbacks in Afghanistan, American commanders are working overtime trying to instill sensitivity among U.S. troops toward their Afghan counterparts and their Islamic culture. But many American service-members already wear their feelings on their sleeves -- sometimes literally -- choosing a powerful term to represent the way they believe they're perceived by the Muslim world: "Infidel." There are infidel hats, infidel T-shirts and infidel uniform patches -- an entire genre of morale wear that emerged from the ashes of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Including this patch which includes an image of a knight in a Crusade's tunic, eating a ham hock along with a translation in Arabic to make the point clear. The terminator eyes are a nice touch IMO.
"Everybody sort of hates occupying forces anyway, so it's kind of embracing that," he told Military.com "If you are going to hate us anyway, we might as well pretend to be the great white devil." Continued Montgomery: "Originally, when we made the patch, we thought it would be this small thing, the equivalent of an 'I'm with stupid' T-shirt. We didn't think we would sell many, but the demand was there," Montgomery said, describing how his company has sold about 10,000 of the patches.
And it's not just a novelty item - here are some German troops sporting the pork-crusader patches in the wild:

The Insane B-52 Low Pass Flyby
Okay this is old but still pretty damn awesome:
These images were taken in 1990 in the Persian Gulf. US carriers and B-52s were conducting joint exercises when two of the bombers requested permission for a low pass. While it's a high altitude bomber, the B-52s also fly at low altitudes to avoid enemy radar and air defenses. When the B-52s approached the carrier, they announced they were six miles away but the carrier controllers couldn't see them because they weren't looking down.

Well it certainly equals MariO.
A complete from scratch recreation of Super Mario Bros. with a focus on perfectly imitating the feel the 1985 classic gave us. Then give Mario a portal gun, add puzzle game mechanics from Portal and there you go. And if that wasn't crazy enough, play 4-player coop, with everyone having their own Portal gun!

At the German Embassy in Riyadh, they imported a large pig for Octoberfest by calling it a guard dog. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, but they got the thing in. It made a wonderful roast. Mmmm, roast pig!!!

The Czechs were fun to work with. They were there to do reconstruction, but would jump at any chance to send their teams out on combat ops, especially the snipers.

Well, it depends on what particular duchy or city state of what we now know of as "Germany" that you are talking about.
The different city states and duchies were always fighting (to some degree) amongst themselves, and changing alliances. The French became "nationalized" earlier, and embrace many martial virtues, plus the innate haughtiness to anyone not priviledged to be born a Frenchman. Which is about the only thing that has survived to this day.
I think Napolean's excesses started to bleed out their martial notions, and WWI put the capper on it. WWI killed a whole lot of young French soldiers and wrecked a good part of the countyr - for pretty much nothing. That sort of thing would kick the guts out of any country.

Yes, the Germans are a little bit of a scary lot. At the end of "Band of Brothers" on of the guys describes them as a wounded leopard, that will strike again.
A good friend of mine served in the Army in the 80's -90's (Gulf War vet)and was stationed in Germany for a while and made some good friends among the Germans (he speaks fluent German himself).
It's hard to say what they will become in the years to come. They work hard and are serious about doing well, which doesn't exactly mesh with the general slacker attitude of the welfare states of Western Europe.

First day at work at the new radio station today. It went pretty well, the owner told me he really liked my opening line. The high from a great first day is balanced by the fact that I'll need to buy another car. The timing chain broke and parts of it somehow got into other parts of the engine, and it'll cost more to fix than I could get on a trade-in. So my fresh start is now even fresher!
When I'm not here, I'm reading "Righteous Indignation" on my smartphone. AB sure had some huge ones. I also found a hardcover copy of "The Reagan Diaries" at a used book store for just ten bucks, and I'm looking forward to starting that.

I have a hard heart when it comess to the sensativities of people who live in and run a barbaric community. A pig patch seems more likely to get a reaction out of them than a girl getting raped, maimed, disfigured or killed for trying to read.
They can take the gore, but can't take the patch? Even in our soft western society we can tolerate something like a crude t-shirt.

I've read that Earhart was a disaster as a pilot. IIRC she was viewed as an airborne menace who couldn't fly or navigate for shit (much less parallel park -sorry). She apparently never really learned Morse code, and consequently ditched the powerful transmitter used for Morse code in favor of one that transmitted voice, albeit with much shorter range. The ability to use Morse code apparently would have given her (and her co-pilot, who was IIRC a drunk) a chance to transmit their location at a range when her voice transmissions were problematic.
So ... Earhart was basically an early casualty of PC and affirmative action. Let's pretend this chick is a worthy pilot, even though she's not.

It's Resident Evil, but it's not Resident Evil. If that makes any sense. They've completely given up on what made RE1-RE Code Veronica fun.
They still use that behind the back screen shot I don't care for. The one that became standard fare in RE 4.
It's not awful or anything. It's just different from what RE used to be and it's awfully familiar to every other generic shooter out there. Although the RE story makes it more interesting to me.

Nice. I may pick up RE: Operation Raccoon City later, but as for right now, I've got my plate full with some other games. Multitasking games is not my forte.
The most fun from RE: Operation Raccoon is probably going to come from the multiplayer, especially with the opportunity to play other RE characters. The single-player campaign will most likely be adequate, but from what I've seen thus far, the objectives will likely be very linear. Hope you enjoy it though.

I don't know. RE 6 is coming out in November or something. It's supposed to take off where RE 5 left off.
Operation Racoon City is a complete departure. It takes place between RE2 and RE3.
I feel as though RE4 was a reboot in terms of game play. Everything after that has been similar.
It's not about strategy, conserving resources, survival horror, unlocking puzzles and passwords anymore.

I was looking for an outlet for my general anger and disappointment with alleged conservatives who are staying home v. voting for whoever the candidate (likely Mittens) is, or even swearing to vote for the Won / JEF / SCOAMF. I had one of those experiences in person today, and didn't quite get it out of my system. At the time, I think I was itching for a dustup, but couldn't find a dance partner. He saw Obama's historical Columbus hash and raised him a Wright brothers who would have been shut down by Dodd-Frank. I think we can agree that Romeny wasn't there a month ago. This primary has forced him to sharpen has he goes, and it's all making him better for the main event.
We'd rather a short primary and an out-of-the-box great candidate, of course, but for the moment, I am grateful that God saw the cookie dough scraps of Romney and this crapass process and is scraping it together for a somewhat functional, slightly more tasty cookie.

I hated that movie. That stupid DiCaprio spent an hour running around on a sinking ship and wouldn't put on a life jacket. Winslet should have shoved his ass overboard. The movie consisted of a lot of great special effects in a movie that was just plain dumb.

He had a lot of good ones, I LOL'ed because I saw them as a response to Obama's crap about R's being supposedly backward. The way I remember it, the Wright Brothers comment was about how they would have been shut down for kicking up too much dust. I particularly enjoyed the crack about how, under Obama, we can't even build a damn pipeline.
We normally don't watch that stuff, but we caught the beginning and couldn't turn away. My 19 year-old daughter usually isn't that interested (because she doesn't know a lot of the backstory) but demanded we keep it on. She really enjoyed it.

I married a lady 5'2" tall 105 pounds......mean as a snake if you pissed her off(more so once we parted ways). Nicely stacked, but damn was she mean!! Most models of players have a secret bunch of keys to hit on the remote that will set the region code. Code 0 is an open player, that'll play all codes. If you search the player unlock code, around 3 or 4 deep you'll find a site -- possibly Russian -- where they'll have the combination. Once you press "load/unload" + "OK" + "Fast Forward" [or whatever], it puts up a nice menu for setting regions, and you just set the region you want (probably 0).

to hit on the remote that will set the region code. Code 0 is an open
player, that'll play all codes. If you search the player unlock code,
around 3 or 4 deep you'll find a site -- possibly Russian -- where
they'll have the combination. Once you press "load/unload" + "OK" +
"Fast Forward" [or whatever], it puts up a nice menu for setting
regions, and you just set the region you want (probably 0).

6) This will change to 00

I discovered that manga series through fansubs a couple of years ago, but then the fansubs stopped coming. I'm glad to know now that it was because the series has been officially licensed.
Having devoured those first three volumes, I plan to go back to BN ASAP to order whatever other volumes are available. It's a delightful romantic comedy, with characters who are unusally deep and complex, and somewhat unique.

There are a plethora of rippers. And processors. And playback. None of which go together like WMP. Part of the problem is that DVDs have menus and CDs have songs. If I'm going to rip movies/TV series/video collections in multiple regions -- and we're talking quite a few of 'em -- there needs to be some thought as to a comprehensive user interface......and that's what's lacking.

See, this is exactly where I'm scratchin' my noggin. You can ISO all these bad boys, but still not archive them properly ("remote drive" -> mount/unmount....). You can convert formats and lose the menus and special features. You can manually piece together a bunch of stuff, and spend more time up front than you'll ever save in a lifetime of clicking the movie over finding it in a box.....
When you rip CD's, it attaches album art, files it away in a logical manner, and adds it to your "library". Where's the DVD version?

Set your clock back or reinstall in Virtual PC and try again. On the picture of a DVD player's buttons, on the lower right side, there's a disk icon that displays "Select source" when you mouse over. Click on it and a menu will pop up. Select "Open DVD file on hard disk drive" and navigate to the folder you ripped the DVD to. Then press play.

I have to throw the BS flag on that. Stress has been ruled out in heart attack causes under the latest "studies". The primary cause of heart attacks is heredity. Smoking is the second biggest cause. Diet and (lack of) exercise bring up the next big causes.

The jet stream shift caused by the Pacific ocean has kept the cold up in Canada while it has allowed the warm below it. AK has had record cold and snows while WA has record warm. Northern Europe has experienced huge cold and snows that has been attributed to many deaths.
