What the Hell?

This movie, White Dog, was never released, owing to concerns it would be racially inflammatory or denigrating to blacks. (Despite the fact the whole point of the movie is an anti-racist message.)

It was directed by Samuel Fuller, who was furious at the decision. And that's Kristy MacNichol and Jameson Parker of Simon and Simon there, and Paul Winfield (he got the creature in his ear) as the Racist Dog De-Programmer.

Here's something: Apparently all the parts of this are available on YouTube so it's possible we could do a joint viewing.

I don't know. It's about 90 minutes long and I'm not sure it's bad enough to warrant that.

Corrected: It wasn't released theatrically. It was shown on TV.

Marvin left school to join the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Scout Sniper in the 4th Marine Division.[8] He was wounded in action during the WWII Battle of Saipan, in the assault on Mount Tapochau, during which most of his company ("I" Company, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division) was killed.[9] Marvin's wound (in the buttocks) was from machine gun fire, which severed his sciatic nerve.[10] He was awarded the Purple Heart and was given a medical discharge with the rank of Private First Class.[11] Contrary to rumors, Marvin did not serve with producer and actor Bob Keeshan during World War II.[11]

119 "You didn't snap....don't worry about it. "

Well I felt pretty bad about it when I thought it over today. I can see why some people might chose not to believe my story. If I were reading it I'd probably have some serious reservations as well.

The first point of contention of course is why on earth would these people risk there jobs and even jail time over something so ridiculous? Truth is I have no idea. It makes absolutely no sense to me either. I think I'd have serious reservations about believing it if I weren't living through it. I can't explain why these people are behaving the way they are, but when I thought about it today I did have a couple of things that occurred to me.

I can't explain why occupy protesters would terrify a bunch of kids at a Mcdonald's by screaming at them. I can't explain why some "environmentalists" burn down peoples houses or torch SUV's. None of that makes any sense to me either. Truth is, I just really don't understand these people at all.

The other thing that occurred to me today is that I think that at least some of the people reading it have a little different perspective on it than I do, simply because of the way in which it was written.

Kind of liking the difference between watching a whole football game from beginning to end, or watching nothing but the highlight reels later on ESPN or the news. The folks reading it are just getting the highlights, the stuff that was noteworthy. For me it's one incident, then hours of work or sitting on the group w bench, then maybe another brief encounter. But to the reader these long pauses are often covered with a single sentence, so the pace is much much different.

So I guess I can't really blame folks for finding some of this hard to believe.

As a "service" project my college fraternity took in a candidate for the seeing eye dog program for a few months before he was to start his formal training.

The dog developed a keen taste for beer and an abiding hatred of the snotty sorority girls next door. He may even have become an alcoholic though some of the guys thought he was just retarded. He never did become a seeing eye dog. Spent the rest of his life in the house barking at the Alpha Phis. He lived to be fourteen.

Well for years, honestly, I did ignore it. I went to work at this job (and others) and I listened to people talking politics or wearing shirts like that and I never said a word. I just ignored it. All of it.

I kept my opinions to myself and I went home and I went back to work the next day. If anyone did corner me and ask me my opinion on politics I generally replied with something like, "Well, I don't talk politics or religion at work.", and just left it at that.

The night before the t-shirt incident was the night Breitbart died. I guess I realized that for all these years, I'd been taking the easy way out. Going along to get along. Not making waves. And honestly, it embarrassed me.

It really hit home when I saw this guy wearing a t-shirt honoring a mass murderer, and I realized that Andrew wouldn't be around to fight this battle anymore. He was gone.

I guess something just snapped. I just decided I wasn't going to be quiet anymore. Don't get me wrong, I'm not replacement for Breitbart, I'm not even a pale imitation of the original. But I just realized that Andrew wasn't around to try and clean up the whole world anymore. I just felt like I had a duty to try and do something to tidy up my little corner of it.

I guess that's the closest I can come to explaining it. I just felt in my gut it was something I had to do.

Most definitely not. Just today, a stray was lingering in front of my car. I had leave to go, but honked so he would get back up on the curb. The lady behind me in an SUV liked dogs too because she didn't honk or act impatient while I waited for the dog to get out of the way. She smiled when I waved at her.Dogs are almost always love, and when they aren't, its because of humans.

146 Kristy MacNichol was always kinda butch but a hot butch. There was one rom-com where she plays a shy woman with a congenital defect that gives her a limp and has a cast put on her leg so she can pretend to have broken it skiing while hanging out at the resort to meet men. There is a scene where she playfully reveals she is wearing nothing beneath a long coat and she was quite well constructed.

It was what I call the boyfriend sufferance scene often found in rom-com that men attend only to please the significant other.

I put up with a lot of stupid shit from my loser of a future-brother-in-law since he knocked up my sister; mostly Leftist stupid shit. Dumbshit is 42, just got his first real job last year (not kidding, his mother let him leach off her his whole life), thinks the government should be taking care of all of us, and still does not posses a functioning automobile (or anything else of any real value).

He posted an article on his Facebook page (I had friended him purely out of a sense of obligation) that was entitled "who will slither into Breitbart's place?" and was later yanked because half of it was made up BS. He added his own comments mocking Breitbart, and celebrating his death.

I un-friended him, told him he was an ass, and told him I hoped nobody celebrates when he dies.

My sister has informed me she never wants to speak to me again.

I don't regret what I said.

151 Possible Spoiler if true:

I didn't see the movie but I did once read about it. The White Dog was trained to attack black people. A black person is charged with untraining that. The dog doesn't die in the end. Instead, he is trained to attack white people.

Posted by: hadsil at March 17, 2012 01:27 PM (m5yBn)

152 I could see how a movie like that could be racist.

Now of course i haven't seen it, so i don't know. But first there is a long, sad history of people trying to make movies against racism or whatever, and coming off badly in the process.

And here's the other thing that is a little creepy. Okay, in the ad we see the dog go and attack a black trucker who then drives the truck into a store. It looked deserted and that kind of accident is probably very survivable, so probably no one died, but that makes it pretty clear that yes, that dog is a time bomb, as lame as that line is. I mean that is some Cujo type sh-t. Sooner or later it will kill someone. So for me that is when i go and put the dog down. I know where Winfield is arguing that we have to reform it to prove our enlightment or something but... f--- that sh-t. If we are talking a human, i could see the argument, but its a dog and as much as i like dogs, i do not give the dog's life priority over any human.

But she is like "hey its okay, let's try to save it anyway." which makes you wonder... if the dog was going to kill white people would she take the same attitude? and maybe that is where the accusation of racism is coming from.

Of course that is judging the movie without having seen it, so all of those comments are provisional. for instance, maybe the movie makes it 100% clear that if the dog wanted to kill white people that she would be equally squishy about it.

But mostly it just looks bad, and not the kind of "fun bad" that Ed Wood gave us. Just sort of the bad bad kind.
