Obama Hagiographer Davis Guggenheim Claims There's Nothing About Obama He Can Fault

I know this is a couple of days old. Stick with it for a sec. I have a point.

He cannot find a single fault with Barack Obama.

Davis Guggenheim: "Well, I mean the negative for me was, there were too many accomplishments. I had 17 minutes to put them all in there."

Piers Morgan: "Oh, come off it! You can't say that with a straight face. Come on."

Davis Guggenheim: "I'm looking at you right now with a straight face."

Piers Morgan: "The only negativity about Barack Obama is there are too many positives?"

Davis Guggenheim: "That was the negative -- excuse me, that was the negative for me."

Piers Morgan: "Oh."

...

Piers Morgan: "But where do you find fault in him, personally?"

Davis Guggenheim: "I -- you know, I don't. I don't, frankly."

Piers Morgan: "He's a perfect human being?"

Davis Guggenheim: "Well, no. but I'm really quite in awe of him, as a leader, and the choices he's made."

Piers Morgan: "I mean, I'm only asking because you are a well-known documentary maker, and this would be the first movie, I guess, you've made where it's all completely positive. And even you personally don't see any negative at all in the guy. Do you think you were the right guy to make this? I mean, are you dispassionate enough to make a Barack Obama video?"

Davis Guggenheim: "But, Piers, you haven't seen the movie. You've only seen the trailer."

Piers Morgan: "Well, I've asked you to list all the negatives and you said the only negative was you couldn't put enough positives in."

Davis Guggenheim: "Well, that's true. That's true."

Now, you keep hearing that Davis Guggenheim is a "famous" documentarian. I kept hearing that too, and nodding my head, even though I had no idea who the hell he was. But if people say he's famous, he's famous.

Well, he did do a very big documentary, one that I've seen. One, in fact, I've promoted on this blog a half dozen times.

He wrote, narrated, and "starred" in Waiting for Superman, the documentary that devastates the Teachers Unions and current system of government schools for dooming children to poor educations and poorer lives, and takes as its heroes the charter school and private school people trying to fight the corrupt system.

The president that this champion of charter schools says has not a single flaw canceled the low-cost DC Opportunity program, a program to place poor kids in charter and private schools, as a sop to the teachers union.

Thanks to @jimgeraghty for pointing that out.

So, does Davis Guggenheim denounce his name-making movie Waiting for Superman as fundamentally false?

Affirmative action and masive white guilt. Everyone knows what a total retard Barky is. Even Barky knows what an idiot he is. He's seen his own scores. Sure, Barky makes a mental adjustment according to Critical Race Rantings ... but he knows what difficulty he's always had with numbers ... and English ... and everything that required even a smidgeon of working grey matter. 103 This flick cost $350,000.00 for 17 minutes. Total payoff.

Of course, the guy comes off so ludicrous (even Morgan is laughing at it) that he makes his little film sound like a waste of time to watch.

104 75 You know you're in for trouble when you see a man with a woman's hairdo or vice-versa.It's notnecessarily indicative of liberalism, but people with haircuts of unusual length or style are almost always trouble.

Eh, Truman.....it's not that easy. .....Breitbart used to wear his hair that long. Ted Nugent still does, but in a pony tail. ....There are probably some other conservatives out there with longer hair styles too, I'm just not thinkin of em at the moment. ....It's not the hairdo....it's what's underneath it.

I liked the way Morgan handled this. It's useful to ask a passionate advocate to argue the other side a bit, to see if he can muster any rationality and evenhandedness at all.

I've done with liberals re AGW. "What would it take to convince you that AGW is not a big problem?" If they don't just get pissed off, their reaction is often priceless: they'll start to say something about evidence that the seas are not rising, or the glaciers not melting, or global average temperatures are not rising, then catch themselves when they realize that that is exactly the situation now.

For my part, I'll reconsider my skepticism when climatology researchers supporting AGW assertions start making predictions (falsifiable on the human timescale) that are borne out. Predictions, not retrospective rationalizations ("Oh, we would've predicted that").

109 “One of my predecessors, President Rutherford B. Hayes, reportedly said about the telephone: ‘It’s a great invention but who would ever want to use one?’” Obama said. “That’s why he’s not on Mt. Rushmore.”

“He’s looking backwards, he’s not looking forward. He’s explaining why we can’t do something instead of why we can do something,” Obama said. “The point is there will always be cynics and naysayers.”

Have your speechwriters check their sources, Mr. President. President Hayes probably never said that bit about the telephone.

We thought it was a bit unsporting of Obama to attack President Hayes, who is quite unable to respond. So we called up the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, Ohio, where Nan Card, the curator of manuscripts, was plenty willing to correct Obama’s ignorance of White House history. Just as soon as she finished chuckling.

“I’ve heard that before, and no one ever knows where it came from,” Card said of Hayes’s alleged phone remark, “but people just keep repeating it and repeating it, so it’s out there.”

That was WFS for me. sorry to be a downer, I will watch it again but I thought it was more stealth propaganda.

Exactly. So, then Davis broke out the kneepads (he borrowed from his actress wife, no doubt) and went to work. The one certain thing that can be done to escape poverty is to get a good education. The worst school systems in the country are in the big cities, run by Democrats and the Teachers Unions as they have beenfor the past 50 years. And the first thing Obama did when he got into office was kill the successful DC voucher program. Why does Barack Obama hate black kids so much?

155 Good grief, thank you, finally. Doesn't it kind of make you question what Guggenheim's real motivations were for "Waiting for Superman" I mean, come on, he did do "An Inconvenient Truth" too.

I honestly do not believe that this was a case of a blind squirrel finding a nut in terms of "Waiting for Superman". There's something there that doesn't square. Besides Guggenheim's snotty kids go to private school where they probably sing anthems to Obama so why the heck is he in any position to do an expose on public schools/charter schools? Who really put him up to it and why. I suspect the reason is green and can be legally traded for goods or services.

Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at March 15, 2012 10:33 PM (RZ8pf)

156 Oh and I want to clear up some "facts" in this thread, Waiting for Superman was made in 2010, NOT during Bush. And, the liberals weren't secretly whispering "Republican" about Davis Guggenheim after Waiting for Superman. They were wildly embracing him. they were trotting him out on the circuit, they thought it was the best damn documentary since "An Inconvenient Truth"

So don't fool yourselves into thinking this Obama love was to get back in the good graces, he never fell out, Waiting for Superman was not some sort of conservative solution to the schools crisis. It was very much about how to re-distribute money, especially to some very well connected long time allies of the Obama administration. (Michelle Rhee and her lover boy Kevin Johnson for example).

Wheels within wheels people. Wheels within wheels. (And, yes I am over the top passionate about this)
