1 Good Morning Morons. Its FRIDAY, March 2, 2012. And buy it was beautiful here yesterday 81°F and Sunny. Too bad I couldn’t hit the rockin’ chair and enjoy it. Also the Bradford Pears (otherwise known as the Frankenstein Tree) are starting to bloom now, as well as the trees with the lavender blooms which I can never remember the names of. And on this day in 1836 Texas declared its independence from Mexico.

The 17 year old in OH has been charged as a juvenile after three murders. I don’t know how the juvenile offender laws are in OH, but if he were in SC and charged as a juvenile at 21 he would get out of juvenile detention and have his record completely cleared. Some of you Morons/’ettes from OH clue us in on how the laws there work.

8 Untrained and incompetent TSA officers now doing random stop and search of cars and trucks. If I am not mistaken this is illegal and unconstitutional. Of course this article being written by a congress critter doesn’t want to mention that. And where is the outcry from the libtards? How they howled when they feds were allowed to review what books you checked out at the library which was something they could ALREADY do. Silence here on random stop and search. Morons, if you are stopped by one of these goons you do not have to allow them to search your car. Ask them what the probably cause for the stop was and if they have a search warrant. If they don’t tell them you do not consent to a search.

9 Y-not brought this up yesterday that the MI Republican Party was playing funny business with the delegate split in MI. I responded that it depended on how they were doing it. If it was done by district that was within the rules. However, from this article it appears that it was not. They awarded both “at large” delegates to Romney. But there is no “establishment push” from Romney is there? Santorum should formally challenge this and AZ which was blatantly against the rules.

16 Fox showing a video of O’lyingasshole calling for congress to end “subsidies” etc for oil companies. I would love to see an expose in what these so called “subsidies” are. The U.S. has the second highest tax rate for oil in the world. The only one higher is communist Venezuela. And the subsidies he is talking about? Nothing more than normal cost of doing business deductions from gross receipts to determine “profit”. Not sure how they work because my Hatettes kept their fucking noses clean and I don't have a damn reason to know how they work otherwise. But there's no way that kid has any anonymity around Chardon after this; that just ain't happening. Somebody told me that the kid who shot the school up had neither parent present for his preliminary hearing; that right there probably tells you all you need to know about the underlying causes of this tragedy. I know the kid comes from a broken home (and I read somewhere, but haven't followed up, that his deadbeat dad might be in prison; but I stress that I might be wrong about that) but to not take responsibility for your own flesh and blood, the actions of which you're complicit in producing, is pretty fucking shitty and if I were one of the parents of the murdered children I'd want to stomp a deep hole in both their asses.

Everybody keeps saying that but that penalty was for moving the primary. Not following the delegate rules. Noot didn't accept that for one of the primaries and Sanatorium shouldn't accept it from AZ either.
As far as I am concerned I don't like any of these damn candidates but when the Party starts violating its own rules to give "their" preferred candidate a boost its time to abandon the party. I am halfway there already.

It would be virtually impossible to debate anyone at a bar in Brentwood without it being a liberal.

As for the heart attack, that should be pretty obvious. These tales of super secret potions that will mimic a heart attack and be undetectable rank up there with silenced revolvers in the credibility department.

It takes at least 95% blockage of an artery to bring on a heart attack, and that is easily detectable. There are some heart attacks brought on by rare factors but those also are detectable.

Posted by: Drew in MO at March 02, 2012 07:32 AM (BDGkt)____________ I've long believed that it's not just good to be loved by good people - it's also good to be hated by evil people. Libtards are morally evil people, and if they hate us we know we're going a good job. Sadly, the fact of the Liberals' existence is what is bringing down our democratic republic. They can't live by any kind of reasonable moral standard, they can't live in peace beside those who disagree with them, everything they say about every subject is either a lie or a selected, isolatedfact meant to create a false impression, and they even refuse tolive with the results of elections that go against them. They make civil war, or our side's eventual defeat and disenfranchisement, inevitable.

Breitbart liking us commenters was a big cherry on top for me in hanging out at this blog. Damn I will miss him.

I
bookmarked the thread 'Greatest Whole Albums' back in November for
listening suggestions. One of the participants on that thread was AB.
Here are a couple of his posts that day; y'all are really going to like

Hard to believe that the asshole who posted "screw 'em" over some dead contractors in Iraq would worry about his fellow feral retards making complete disgraces out of themselves on his blog but there has to be some reason. Maybe he wanted to snub his memory by ignoring him but I don't think they've ever opted for that tactic before. Speaking of which I read elsewhere that kos was trying to get the Westboro nutjobs to protest at his funeral. Anybody else hear that? It would make sense because one thing the MFM never reports is that fuckhead Phelps is a donk.

Fox showing a video of Olyingasshole calling for congress to end subsidies etc for oil companies. I would love to see an expose in what these so called subsidies are. The U.S. has the second highest tax rate for oil in the world. The only one higher is communist Venezuela. And the subsidies he is talking about? Nothing more than normal cost of doing business deductions from gross receipts to determine profit. No mention of the absolute scam they have for solar bullshit where they give tax credits, not a deduction. That entire tax credit portion of the tax forms should be eliminated. ALL.OF.IT

86 I think there is generally, a difference between left and right, in temperament. Ace was sort of talking about it yesterday, and it's one of the things I was thinking about all day. What distinguished Breitbart from any number of people on the right was his willingness to accept the challenge from the left as not just being his opponent in a debate. He saw them as, to a very large extent, the enemy. And even now, I have a hard time describing the left as evil or any equivalent word. I know evil exists, and I'm sure a lot of it does on the left, but that's where the difference comes in. Many of us, we call ourselves "conservative," and part of that means there is a hard-wired component to how we interact with people. I go to work, am surrounded by liberals, and do my best not to upset the status quo. Not because I'm a coward, but because there are many other things to consider, other than just wanting to bloody the noses of those with whom I disagree.

Breitbart was not only willing to bloody some noses, he seemed to enjoy it. There aren't many on the right who do that, and he will be sorely missed because it's sorely lacking on our side. Call it a character flaw, which at times it would be. In "normal" times, for example, but we're not living in normal times. Some of us are having a hard time engaging them on that level, but more of us probably should... and even there, I had to throw in the word "probably."

Posted by: bjk at March 02, 2012 07:47 AM (Gq2j1) _____________ _____That's never an optimal situation. But given the urgency of the need, I'd say that it was warranted. Even a low-to-moderate success rate is better than nothing when it comes to missile defense. And happily nobody has to ride an ABM missile into battle. If it fails, it just fails. It will not prevent the loss it was meant to prevent, but at least it doesn't cause any more net losses. It should also be noted that missile defense development was, itself, a kind of weapon. The Russians believed we could do it. That's why they've always had such a hard on over the issue. This made (andstill makes)the very concept itself a tool for leverage.

99 As if our MOST Favored Nation China, purchasing Iranian oil, will not persist in defiance of the not unanimous UN boycott v. Iran.

"The US believes India will be the only major Asian buyer of Iranian crude to maintain its imports in the first half of this year"... Financial Times

Somewhere near the end of the article is mentioned that India has already been cutting back levels of Iranian oil purchased over the recent years, unlike China and other nations specifically not mentioned by name.

What's best for the populations of India, Central and Eastern Europe, China and Asia is null and void when X plays monopoly. Noncompliance is all it takes to suffer the wrath of X.

Given Hillary Clinton as exemplar, America has to fuck the entire world in order to fuck a target. And true to her Alinsky model, taking down India will prove how tough she/we are, striking down whom she/we perceive to be weak, ignoring the resisting victim's "innocence" or reasons, in denial of resulting larger problems than the initial purpose being forcibly addressed.

http://tinyurl.com/6qn7u33

India has in recent years trimmed the amount of oil it buys from Iran.
Some Indian refiners have expanded supplies from Saudi Arabia and other
countries, but Indian officials are steadfast that there is no room for
further cuts in Iranian supplies. Aides close to Manmohan Singh, the prime minister, believe that India
has already done as much as it feels it can. One top Indian diplomat
says that the US is making a mistake by painting India as an outlier
and should be tougher on European partners that have increased supplies
from Iran in recent years. We respect UN sanctions but will not honour any other sanction. We have cordial relations with Iran and we continue to import oil from them, Jaipal Reddy, Indias oil minister told a parliamentary consultation this week. Many of our oil refineries can only process thin Iranian oil. To change this will create an immediate shortage, says Mohan Guruswamy, the chairman of the Centre for Policy Alternatives in New Delhi. We may lessen our imports but we will continue. India makes its own policy."

Didn't someone else have a similar paper come out? Or was this already reported? I remember hearing this during the last week or so, I thought.

And, indeed, they're correct: there is no moral difference between the born and the unborn. Too bad they don't have the guts to see that thought all the way through to the end. I'd be entertained to see the lengths they'd go through to put a stamp on when murder suddenly becomes immoral. Because if there's no moral difference between an unborn infant and a born infant, what is the moral difference between a born infant of, say, 6 days and 6 weeks? Or 6 weeks and 6 months? Or 6 months an a year? Or one year and 18 mos? Or 18 mos and 2 years? Or 2 years and 3 years?

I'm sure you see how that's going: and of course there is no moral difference between an unborn infant and any other human being. But they won't let themselves examine the question in that way, because if they do they wouldn't be able to support their main idea that abortion should be okay.

Meanwhile, if there was more to be learned or actually used from the flying chem-laser program it would still be flying. I assume it either went dark or some combination of engineering, physics and useability or better idea issues ended it. I don't think the USAF would leave it entirely to the Navy.

I was required to read Animal Farm as a freshman, and one of our advanced lit classes (not one I took- already had all my English credits, and I there were other electives I wanted to take) had 1984 on its reading list.

190 Vic, according to the Fox News story, charging the OH psycho shooter as a juvenile is just the first step, and prosecutors will pursue charging him as an adult. I assume they made these initial charges just to charge him with something so they could keep him in lock-up. They likely need to go through a spate of mental health exams to prove that he understands the severity of what he did before he can officially be charged as an adult. That's stupid, of course; he's seventeen, not twelve. But they've got to cover all the bases.

223 We don't need to start subscribing to yet another conspiracy theory. There is no heart attack drug.
Posted by: Vic at March 02, 2012 09:38 AM (YdQQY)

Sometimes heart attacks are not caused by blockages. Sometimes the signal and response system pukes on itself and your heart stops working right.

One very simple thing that can stop your heart is potassium chloride.

I suspect AB had heart problems that had little to do with blockages, and the conspiracy stuff is the work of the imagination.

Vic,

If you're still here: The root of the problem is MS Word smart quotes. It changes straight quotes to left and right quotes.

ASCII is off the table for a couple of reasons:

1. In ASCII, the smart quotes are in the top half of the range (high bit set, > 127), so those would be defined by codepage or character set

2. Everything has been moving to Unicode (multi-byte character sets), and this is why there are multiple garbage characters showing in place of the one replaced character

If I leave my browser on its default character set settings, the smart quotes look like crap. If I force it to Unicode UTF-8, the quotes and degree symbols look fine in your original comments but are represented with "?" characters in your "fixed" comments (and in Y-not's @20.

The blog-breaker is to blame for forcing the hacks put in place to guard against him, but the transition to UTF has been extremely painful even outside the confines of this place.

227 My kids read "Animal Farm" in 8th grade and did a whole unit of role-playing around it. It had a big effect on both of them. I love watching a news progam or even a fictional TV show with my daughter and hearing her say, "wow, all animals are equal but some are more equal than others!" She hates Barack Obama and thinks he hasF'ed the country so badly that she wants to go to college and live in Canada.

We have some vocally liberal teachers in our schools but the kids mostly make fun of them.

Hey, Tami! How are you feeling today?

My husband and I have decided to end each day by listing three things that day that made us feel happy. For me yesterday it was hugging my husband and liking the way he smelled; noticing how pretty the view was during the 30 minutes or so when the sun was actually shining (we had snow yesterday); and eating a piece of chocolate. Dumb, but maybe it will help us keep some perspective. This election season is starting to feel depressingly like 2008.

Oh, and, you are right. It is to do with the Fluke comments. Funny as heck that a mattress company is the first to react to that.

233 The sea ice story was interesting, although I was familiar with the 20's ice melt. What just occurred to me was: that summer and the summer of 1958 (the _Skate_), were sea levels unusually high in the Lower 48? I know for damn sure that the Maldives did not disappear, so what happened? Can we use that as a counterargument with the warmmongers?

Posted by: logprof at March 02, 2012 10:29 AM (ykSKg)

234 Regarding the conspiracy aspect of this, I believe it is too soon to be "connecting dots" on anything, but it's also too soon to be dismissing anything. Keep an open mind, and let the facts come out as they will. We won't start with a supposition, but it's not crazy to say that IF the left had a hit list, Breitbart would be somewhere very near the top of that list. He was a threat to them, andit's obviously not astretch to say some of them are very glad he's gone.

242 #228 Central Bucks School District, Bucks County, PA. Great public schools, though there is World War III going on now over a sudden change in the middle school curriculum that parents are unanimously opposing. Luckily my daughter is in 9th grade and won't be affected. Last year our high school graduated 100% of the class that entered in 2008. The district has the 4th highest test scores in the state and one of the lowest per-pupil expenditures. It is really a model school district, and a very large one with 12 elementary schools, five middle schools, and three high schools. No liberal indoctrination in the curriculum, very little required reading but lots of "choose your own book" reading so I can control what my kids read.

247 I second the diagnosis of Front Toward Left @226: Smart Quotes, sometimes called Typesetting Quotes. Your word processor is sensing by context as you type, and replacing the keyboard quote mark (ASCII 22 - straight) with either the left (open) or right (close) double quote (ASCII 93 or 94 - curly). Once that substitution is made, the character is permanently fubared.

The reason you don't see it in Notepad is because the default Courier font displays the same straight symbol for all three double quote characters.

The same deal for the keyboard apostrophe (ASCII 27), auto-replaced in some contexts with left or right single quotes (ASCII 91 or 92).

You can get similar problems if there's a Mac anywhere in your chain of custody. Older Macs use the ANSI character encoding tables where Windows uses ASCII or the Windows encoding tables (based on ASCII). For most alphanumerics, the tables match up. But the table positions of punctuation, accented Western letters and many math symbols vary hugely. I've been told the problem is gone from newer Mac OSes, but haven't seen proof one way or another.

When you report if you do or don't see an error on one of these tests, mention your machine and OS as well as the browser and version you're using. Firefox for Mac and Firefox for Windows are two very different kettles of fish. I imagine iPads, iPhones and iTouches present similar Apple/Win issues. I'd also wonder about Safari browser on either platform.

Android tablets and phones are a whole other country.

249 Vic -- since it's just the apostrophes and quotation marks that were troubling, I wonder if it's something to do with a "smart quotes" type of feature (sorry I'm not a regular Word user so I don't know if that's the correct terminology in the program.) It automatically converts your typing in the straight hash mark shown on your keyboard to the curly form that's the proper typographical apostrophe/quotation mark. But since it's a program feature, maybe something in how the program executes it renders the result not universally understandable.
