| We're Just Kinda Making Up Shit Now: The MFM Narrative in Full SwingYahoo News is in full on campaign mode. None of us is surprised by this. This is pointing out hypocrisy for the sake of pointing it out. And making me tired for the three-hundredth time of doing so. The narrative: A wealthy banker leaves a 1% tip for a hard-working waitress with a snide handwritten note on the receipt admonishing her to "get a real job". Get it? 1%. Seriously. See, he's Wealthy. And a Banker. You can spot them because of the WB lapel pin. This story was posted on a "blog", which has since been taken down because of "all the attention". He told her, he wrote it with a pen (fountain pen I'll bet), "get a real job". This is what passes for news now. The trailer story is not made up shit, it's just made up drama, actress Lucy Lawless is fighting the good fight against Shell Oil to save the Arctic. All she wanted was a mission. And for her sins they gave her one. Brought it up to her, like room service. She was going to the worst place in the world, and she didn’t even know it yet. Weeks away and hundreds of miles up a glacier that snaked through the ice like a main circuit cable and plugged straight into Shell Oil Company.Comments1

I hated dumping Yahoo after using them for around 17 years. I think it was the "conservatives are mentally ill" or whatever story they put on the front page a couple of months back that did me in.

Also understand this: In sharia societies, non-Muslim religious articles are confiscated and destroyed every single day as a matter of policy. In Saudi Arabia, where sharia is the law of the land, where Mecca and Medina are closed to non-Muslims, government guidelines prohibit Jews and Christians from bringing Bibles, crucifixes, Stars of David, and similar artifacts emblematic of their faith into the country. When that prohibition is violated, the offending items are seized and burned or otherwise destroyed. Moreover, though Saudis deny having an official policy that bans Jews from entering the country at all, reports are rampant of travelers’ being denied visas either because they are Jewish or because their passports bear stamps indicative of prior travel to Israel.

No she wore tight sweaters and business blouses in Galactica (or rebirth tank gel), and has been wearing diaphanous gown in the Spartacus prequel series. I think... and I don't know what she was wearing but she did some voice work as an evil ghost lady for a mediocre fantasy third person coop shooter called 'Hunted: The Demon's Forge'. The lack of awareness of the overlap of the two stories astounds me:
Both feature (granted one fake) the story of someone who has taken it upon themselves to express their distaste for what another is doing. and this story, and ones like it, are perhaps the clearest proof yet that the MSM is biased to the left
because - just coincidentally! - a story that confirms every left-wing stereotype about the rich makes front-page news. never mind the fact that it cited nothing but blog posts from some random coworker, who for all we know holds an incredible grudge against the tipper, and anonymous tweets all of which say exactly the same thing. Lawless spoke to The Associated Press from atop the tower Friday, where she said wind gusts were making it difficult for the group to stay put. She said she felt compelled to take a stand against oil-drilling in the Arctic and against global warming.
“I’ve got three kids. My sole biological reason for being on this planet is to ensure that they can flourish, and they can’t do that in a filthy, degraded environment,” she said. “We need to stand up while we still can.” Posted by: steevy at February 27, 2012 09:55 PM (7W3wI) 39
It's all pretty Orwellian, orchestrated to produce the Pavlovian response to the expected news story. Over 27,000 comments to the Yahoo! story? How can anyone actually be interested in making a comment after the first 2 -3000 comments? Really? It's like an orchestrated Soviet denuciation. That's the purpose it serves. To create some false sense of virtue among those serving the 'criticism'. And that's why our Republic is finished. Obama is just the symptom of the deeper sickness. Posted by: Reader C.J. It is not so much despair as it is realism. We can't keep telling ourselves everything is going to be "all right", if we just elect the right guy. No, it isn't. Our culture, our society, our politics, are rotten to the core. The government (both parties) are totally rotten. There are still some decent individuals (Paul Ryan, for instance), but they will either be corrupted or be forced out sooner or later. (I really expect something bad to happen to Ryan in the next year or two). Don't be seduced into believing that somehow we can "roll back all the bad things" with just one election. The narrative: A wealthy banker leaves a 1% tip for a hard-working waitress with a snide handwritten note on the receipt admonishing her to "get a real job".
The narrative ... sounds like this might be the work of the boy who was in charge of OWS funds, and rented a hotel room, rather than commute from his place several blocks away ... or maybe one of his friends ... they had a great narrative, all about hard-coreing it inOWS tents, until someone spotted them. I'm in complete agreement that our government is rotten to the core, but I have to disagree that our society is also rotten. Is much of it beyond redemption? Absolutely. But there are large swathes of America that still believe in the sanctity of marriage and the importance of family; they still love this wonderful country, and are willing to fight for it. They are the real 99%, but they go quietly about their business, growing disillusioned, but still holding out hope that we can repair the damage. I am not optimistic, but neither am I resigned to our fate. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo (NJconservative) at February 27, 2012 10:09 PM (nEUpB) 65

Peaches at #95 - Please tell me you did not just write that. Or at least tell me what fuckin' planet you are from.
I'm from California. I refuse (at nearly 50) to refer to the man in my life at my "boyfriend." It's ridiculous. Then refer to him as a man. Male simply denotes sex. It could be a male donkey or salamander or amoeba. Man is the male of our species -- probably the best choice for a mate. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo (NJconservative) at February 27, 2012 10:28 PM (nEUpB) 106
No, Peaches, it's just my initials.

How are you dear??? To Kill A Mockingbird is an awesome book/movie. I love that Harper Lee thought she didn't need to write another book because that one was perfect. She was an interesting Southern character. And I mean that with all the nuance or flat out sarcasm you can imagine. Posted by: moki at February 27, 2012 10:32 PM (dZmFh) 111

Crap-Drudge has an article from Bill Gertz saying Obama is going to make active duty and retired military pay more for their health care, while not touching the health care benefits for unionized civilian workers. I can't do the linky thing, but head over to Drudge and read the story. It is just sickening.

Seems our area is going to get some snow Wednesday and Thursday. There is an absolute holiday atmosphere about it. At least until the reality hits.
Weather people keep bumping the totals on the updates, it MAY make a foot as of 8PM. We are so lacking this year as to be serious in terms of water table. Posted by: irongrampa at February 27, 2012 10:40 PM (SAMxH) 118
Ok, so at worst we have a rich guy doing asshole things. You know what other asshole things the rich have done recently:
Taken vacations to Hawaii, forcing hundreds of staffers, law enforcement, military and local civilians to work extra hours during the holidays, in many cases thousands of miles from their families. Told us to sacrifice while taking ski trips to Aspen, tours of Spain, and holding lavish parties eating $100/lb beef. Killed projects that would have employed thousands of blue collar workers and brought work to thousands more in supporting industries, all to benefit a few wealthy friends. Blocked traffic in Los Angeles during the peak of rush hour in order to throw a couple of ritzy parties with their wealthy friends. Yeah, those are all real asshole moves. I waited tables in Washington, DC for twelve years and three innagurals. Hands down, conservatives are much better tippers than liberals. As in, not even close. I think it's related to the charitable giving numbers. Compare, say, Joe Biden or Barack Obama to Romney, Gingrich or Santorum. It was my experience that conservatives ran higher check totals, too. Libs: prissy, high-maintenance, low checks, difficult, crappy tips. Conservatives: gregarious, high checks, fun times, solid tips.
Every old time waiter in DC, flaming gay lib even, will admit that GOP innaugurals beat the living tar out of Dem ones. Posted by: Cowboy at February 27, 2012 11:13 PM (So+7G) 128

Speaking of Yahoo carrying Dem water...anyone else noticing the surge in stories on Yahoo and other Obama media outlets explaining the "real reasons" for high gas prices?
Of course none them have anything to do with Obamao and his energy (pond scum) policies. In fact one story absolved the President completely from any responsibility for the coming high gas prices.... Oddly enough George Bush had total control of the pricing of gas if you listen to the same sources a few years ago...... Posted by: SoL at February 27, 2012 11:34 PM (AdnvU) 130
If this was a high end restaurant I can see where a customer might get snarky with a waiter or waitress. I've known people work in high priced restaurants, and they can be very arrogant.
One woman would make snotty remarks about customers wanting ranch dressing for their salad. They also despise anyone who won't splurge on expensive wine or over-priced bottled water, and they show that they despise these customers. There are people who don't make an enormous amount of money and splurge on these restaurants for a special occasion, and sometimes they are treated with contempt. I've listened to the contemptuous remarks of some of the staff. I'm not saying that most of them are like this, I've personally had some really good experiences, but it does happen. And some of these people make a good living. I knew a woman whose husband had a degree in social work, but he worked at a nice seafood restaurant because the money was so good. Those tips mount up. Last time I looked at a map New Zealand was near Antarctica not the Arctic. I suspect that any oil drilling machinery in New Zealand is heading to Antarctica.
I am also sure that Lucy Lawless travels everywhere using only wind, solar, and unicorn farts and only accepts acting jobs when the production can be 100% emission free. I bet she never rides in a car, airplane, never uses plastic and only burns kiwi dung for heat. Either that or she's just another dumb-ass with big tits. Come to think of it, I'll be in my bunk.
