Even a Sex Pirate Has a Heart: Hero of the Vulva Charles M. Blow Pretends To Apologize

sosorrylice.png

Of course you know if someone on the right similarly maligned someone's religion, they'd just skate with a bullshit apology in which the main point seems to be self-praise ("I'm willing" to do that -- because I'm just so awesome).

Thanks to @ben_howe.

13 You know, as much as people are wringing their hands about Mormonism being a problem for Romney in the general election, I kind of get the feeling it'll turn into a "don't throw me into that briar patch!" issue if it comes up. It allows the GOP/conservative media to go on the offensive and get all butthurt in the same way that the Left loved to do during the '08 campaign, and it forces the Obama team and their surrogates off-message to apologize and distance themselves.

I really just don't see it as being the big problem that others do. But hey, I'm in the tank so what do I know?

This is probably one of the worst aspects of our society. The incessent need to apologize for the slightest provocation that was intended to no one in particular. It is only fitting that it finally culminated in the leader of our country apologizing for everything under the sun. When will he apologize to us for screwing this country over? Well, I'll admit that the Liberals seem to be going out of their way to be as offensive about it as possible, which could certainly defuse it as a potential problem.

But so far all we've seen is the ad hominem and bigotted attacks. What those of us who are mentioning it's a problem with which Romney had better be prepared to deal are talking about are going to be the "thoughtful" and "just asking questions" articles in Time and the NYT, or the 5 minute spots on some of the stranger (especially out of context) practices of the LDS.

Maybe so, but I've seen lots of lefties do the mind-reading thing when it comes to judging apologies. I mean, if yourfive year old says he's sorry for biting his baby sister, you kinda know he's only saying it because you're trying to teach him that biting his sister is wrong. But he is learning, and so you give him credit for it.

As this election season heats up, and if Romeny gets the nomination, there's going to be plenty of opportunity to jump on some of the nonsense we're going to see from the left, regarding Romney's religious affiliation. I'd just prefer we not get too bogged down in questioning the motives of the apologies, quite as much as forcing them to acknowledge their bigotry (and yes, the double-standard) when they show it.

Church Lady helped convince a generation of women that they were losers if they didn't sleep around, that their mothers were losers for telling them not to sleep around. We now have a generation of men who aren't willing to marry because there is so much free milk out there. Sometimes Funny is so destructive, it isn't funny.

As I explained, the thing about the underwear is they are worn to remind LDS Members of Covenants we make to God in the Temple. They are worn under clothing because Covenants are personal, and you don't show them off to the world.

Yes, making Covenants with God to be better people and reminding ourselves to keep those Covenants; I can totally see how some people would consider this worthy of ridicule.

The Temple Garments ("Magic Underwear") are in keeping with the Reverence with which we treat the Temples. We wear them as personal symbols of our commitment to our faith and our obedience to God.

You might as well knock Jews for wearing "Magic Propeller Beanies."
