Racist Cartoon Appearing In Leftwing Blog Based on "Gone With The Wind"

The racist cartoon appearing in the leftwing hate-site the "LA Times" is based upon a 1939 film about the antebellum south called "Gone with the Wind." The LATimes is a blog which also features a limited-run print edition, chiefly purchased by footwear giant Foot Locker, to stuff into the toes of sneakers to keep their shape during storage and display.

racists2.jpg

The cartoon, depicting then-Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice as the black slave maid from that film, employed the stereotype of the servile black (common in films from this period) to heighten the charge that Ms. Rice is an "Uncle Tom" or "house slave," disparaging racist terms used by elements of the fringe left to denigrate blacks who deviate from leftist ideology.

"It's perplexing that the LA Times never apologized for this cartoon," said one expert, after I told him to say it, "given that they recently claimed that a parody of Michelle Obama as Maire Antoinette was racist. After all, there is absolutely no inherent racial symbolism in the painting of Marie Antoinette, whereas the LATimes' cartoonist choose an image of slave, in a movie largely about slavery, during a period when blacks were frequently depicted in a racist manner. While the portrayal of the slave maid is given a pass by most modern-day cinephiles, due to admiration for the movie as a whole, the depiction itself is hair-raisingly racist and cliched. It shows a profound racial animus on the part of Jeff Danziger, and his employers at the LATimes, to choose to parody Ms. Rice with such a deliberately racially-edged image."

"I'm outraged!," said no one at Media Matters, an organization which exists chiefly to accuse conservatives of racism for political purposes. Media Matters, which is chiefly read through Andrew Breitbart's Twitter feed, was not bothered for comment, because, let's face it, we know what they'd say.

Thanks to circa.

2 Could this be a reference to Tube Alloys, which is how we referred to the Manhattan Project output whe speaking with Brits?

Posted by: Gern Blandsden at January 07, 2012 01:03 AM (4qU0l)

3 it was a reference to aluminum tubes which were thought, when discovered, to be part of Iraq's WMD program. The claim was later made they were used for some mundane purpose. (I assume that that claim is actually correct.)

Rice I guess was later questioned about them, and I guess said she didn't know about the tubes part of the case for war.

16 Racism must always be on the mind of Leftists, in fact it must be their most constant conscious thought.

Think how mad we would think of someone that always just thinks of the moon, day and night, and when anyone references the moon they immediately castigate that person as a moon-hater, as a moon-bigot, unless that person that references the moon has been approved by the committee of correct-moon-thinking.

Such a person would go around and look for any sign or usage of the moon, much like Islamists that see denigration of Allah in the symbol for a Dairy Queen ice cream cone.

They would attack stores and manufacturers that used moon signage, unless, of course, they were persons or companies that have been approved by the ministry of right-moon-thinking. Even Satan would not have assholes like this running Hell.

Imagine the Hell you would catch, nay, even some time in a Federal prison if after beating Riverdale High in the last football game of the year, the players decided to moon Riverdale High players as they pull away on the team bus.

They don't actually enrich the PU either. They "breed" it from uranium. There isn't enough naturally occurring PU-239 in the ore to get any significant amount through enrichment. They bombard the uranium, which decays into neptunium, which decays into plutonium.

I posted this in the old LA Times thread. Something else was uncovered as racist today. The fact that Detroit
is broke, just ask Conyers.

As
a Michigan panel considers whether a state-appointed emergency
manager should take over Detroit’s debt-laden budget, some residents and
leaders are arguing that the move would disenfranchise black
voters.“How come all of the jurisdictions put under emergency management
are
majority African American? Has anybody noticed that?” asked Rep. John
Conyers (D), who has represented Detroit for 47 years. “There seems to
be a racial aspect, a racial component of the application of this law.”

In
other words, in Conyers mind a predominately white community that isn't broke should
also have their finances be taken over by the state, you know, just to make it
fair.

39 Well, I gotta head back to work, but I'm gonna leave you with something to think about. Obama's power-grab has shaken me pretty bad. It's all I've been thinking about. So, here are my thoughts on the matter.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is gut-check time. With these appointments on Wednesday, the Executive branch has determined that the document constraining the Federal government can be breached. This bold act has made every one of us less free. The President has thrown down the gauntlet. He has done this because he believes that we will be to afraid, too cowed, too swayed by political winds to take it up.
Will we sit back and discuss the political ramifications of taking back our freedom? Some of you might think that Obama will be defeated in November, so there is no reason to take any political fallout that will result from an impeachment. And there will be political ramifications. But what is more important, losing a political battle or showing the government that there is never a good time to take away our freedom?
I wish we could beat Obama in November. I think we can. But why should we be blackmailed into thinking that the Government can take our freedoms because it is an election year?
I am genuinely worried that if we bang the drums for impeachment, it will help Obama in November. But I still say that our freedoms are more important. Why if god’s name should we allow this tyrant the luxury of being in the White House, paid for with our tax dollars without knowing that we will not stand for this?

We are a Nation of Laws, not Men.

57 The lefties and the race industry hate them some GWTW which is most often flagged as one of the greatest movies of all time. It is that way because it does not depict the slaves in the correct "Uncle Tom's Cabin" manner. The idea that slaves could possible be treated as human beings and not cattle was anathema. This is the same reason that they continue to block Song of The South EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT ABOUT SLAVERY and takes place post civil war.

As for the depictions of Connie Rice vs Big Butt Boomba that is just more of their stupid logic. Anything that doesn't depict them in an adoring worshipful; light is racist. Anything that depicts a black Republican in a disparaging light is truth to justice.

You can not ask for logic from these people. After all, if they had a brain they would not be liberal Democrats..

And one last point about GWTW. Does anyone ever ask why this film has always been so popular among women? It is because it is the first epic soap opera AND that ace was what the film was truly about. The civil war and slavery was just a backdrop for scenery and to thicken the plot.

83 As I mentioned in the other thread, there was a published phone number on the LA Times blog to contact Danzinger (it was with his archived cartoons plus an email address) after the Rice cartoon was published. I called the number, thinking I would get voice mail at his desk and leave a message of protest. Instead Danzinger himself answered on a busy street somewhere. He sounded like he was running to his therapist's, short of breath. Maybe out for a jog, but that is how I imagined it. I mean: flat-out paranoid. Guess he'd been getting other calls by then. He ::demanded:: to know where I got his number and, baffled, I said from the website. I mean, duh. [I should have told him I was following him and had secret gamma reflective rays in my drone that could see any phone number and beam them back to my PC]

I calmly and politely told him that I felt the cartoon re: Condi Rice was racist. He then stuttered, sputtered, gasped, and yammered crap about being a Vietnam Vet (as the email shows above). I did not get the connection and told him so (I think he meant he was patriotic due to his Vietnam service, which then allowed him to be racist behind a shield). He then said something stupid about my Southern accent and racism and I told him I might be a redneck princess but I am not a racist, and that he should apologize to Secretary Rice. The call ended with him in a hissy-fit and I remember laughing in surprise that I talked to him. I had not thought anything about this strange call again until last night.

I am sure this morning he is jogging to this therapist's office again and looking over his shoulder in terror. The cartoon was actually stripped of the archives but many saved it for posterity and today's example of real racism. Seriously, he was freaked out with the criticism and the fact that people would actually call a phone number to complain to his highness.

87 Excellent satire, Ace. If there was any honesty and/or justice in the media, your piece would be splashed across the world right now, given the outrageous nature of what they tried to pull off. But there isn't, and it won't be.

88 Nice work, Ace. In fact, really nice work. But you'll need a hundred more as good or better to have a prayer of unseating the Big Guy. Iowahawk will roll over you like a bug.

89 One thing that we have been taught by our progressive overlords is that the undeniable proof of someone being racist is, when that person is accused of being racist, actually denies being racist.

For those who don't already know, Jeff Danzinger hails from the Democratic Socialist Peoples Republic of Vermont. He also does or has done a local strip called the "The Teeds"dipicting the fobils of rual vermonters. He has even published paperbacks of this strip. I own one.
This was of course before hebecame a political cartoonist and discovered that there was a big demand and lots of outlets for hate and ridicule of republicans and consrvatives. And racial hate and ridicule of black republicans and conservatives. And it's OK, because he's a LIBERAL. And I'am sure the money and fameis ok by him too.

"The worst part of it is, Condoleeza Rice is better educated and far more accomplished than Michelle Obama ever will be."
You know, you can take any two well-known people who happen to be sort of equated in staturein the public mind, but are of opposite political persuasions, and the conservative willusually win that contest. That goes doubleif they are women. It is because the media megaphonewill overhypes the liberal's smarts, beauty, character, and significance, and do exactly the opposite to the conservative, and most people ultimately fall intoline withthe propaganda they are drenched in every day. Most don't even know or care that they are being taught how to think - it is so much easier to just go along, and hell, the cool kids mayeven smile atyou.
Example: Sarah Palin/ Nancy Pelosi:
Smarts: No contest, unless by smarts you mean "aptitude for graft".
Significance: Comparative book sales, anyone?
Character: (Please, stop now.)
Beauty: (For the love of God, no more!)

95 Danzinger may or may not be a racist but he's pretty stupid not to know that only black people can call someone an Uncle Tom.

96 The Left knows the power of images through parallel association. That is why they promote disparaging images of conservatives. That is why they rush to suppress images which "disparage" them. See Obama Joker Poster and the Marie A. image. Both OJP and MA both suggest an unpleasant truth, a truth the Left does not want the proles to have floating around in their little minds.

97 Ace, I saw on your twitter feed the cartoon where someone had redone the caption. Close, but not quite enough. Maybe one of the artistic morons could really drive the point home. Take the cartoon, erase the tubes in the background and draw a playpen (or nothing). Change the tube in arms to a baby, and change the dialogue to "I knows all about feedin' babies (correction) I knows best how to feed yo' baby" with a title of "Michelle Obama: America's Nanny". The blow back would be nuclear. I don't have the skill to do that, but I'm sure someone does.

100 The L.A. Times makes for good packing material.
Funny fact-
There are more radio listeners on an average Tuesday to KFI's John and Ken than actual paying subscribers to the L.A. Times. This regarding one of the most lefty cities in the country.

Shows you how low the Times has sunk.
They need to axe George Skelton and the rest of the clowns on their board.

101 Post of the Year, and I doubt anything in the next 11 1/2 months will even touch it.

Danziger's defense is just laughable. He basically says that Rice was a house n***er for the Bush White House, only put in the job because she was a black female, when she was among the most qualified people to ever hold that job. That is just pathetic and sick reasoning.

I'm not one to be easily offended by any racial stereotypes, even from hypocritical liberals, but this cartoon is cringeworthy, even 7 years later. It's still amazing to me that the LAT published it.

Posted by: rockmom at January 07, 2012 01:11 PM (A0UFZ)

102 Not only is this a great take down of leftist hypocrisy, but Zip over at Weaselzippers is posting some snippets from a book that is coming out on the Obama's which (unwittingly?) reinforce Michelle's image as "Michelle Antoinette".

107 Let's not forget how Ted Rall depicted Condi Rice as the Washington Post's cartoonist: http://www.gocomics.com/tedrall/2004/07/05

And this doozy from Pat Oliphant: http://americandigest.org/mt-archives/002864.php

The gist of tall of these Condi Rice cartoons was to brand her as a token hire by Bush; her only value was that she was black. If that, in addition to these ugly images, is not racist then I don't know what is.
