Obama OWS: "We are on their side"

Yes, we know.

He also claims that OWS isn't much different than the Tea Party.

The president also compares the protesters to the Tea Party. In some ways, theyre not that different from some of the protests that we saw coming from the Tea Party," Obama says. "Both on the left and the right, I think people feel separated from their government. They feel that their institutions arent looking out for them.

As someone said, both groups don't like crony capitalism, but OWS wants to keep the cronyism and ditch the capitalism. The Tea Party, the opposite.

While Obama moves closer to the leftists at Zucotti Park, Democrats in Virginia move away from him.

President Obama arrives in the state Tuesday as part of three-day North Carolina and Virginia bus tour to talk about the economy, but its not clear how many Virginia Democrats will be with him.

As we reported today, Democratic state legislators are none too eager to support Obama, let alone be seen with him.

The states top Democrats will be not be around, either.

I've called this the President's Hail Mary play. He knows he will likely lose. Now, given that, what's the best play? Should he tack towards the center, which is supposedly the right play, except no one would believe it and furthermore it's doubtful he'd win that way, either?

Or gamble that he's about to catch some luck in the next quarter or two -- a single quarter of 4.5% growth would seriously change the thinking on this race -- and double down on what he really believes, which is European socialism?

I think the latter is the smarter play, from his perspective. The first strategy might keep it close, but he'd still lose. The second strategy could possibly result in a victory -- or a blowout loss. But if you're going to lose, might as well lose by a lot.

But while this might be the best-of-a-bad-lot for Obama, it's not a good play for the Democrats around him, who'll be sucked down when the Titanic finally goes under.

I previously noted that lefties were following Obama's lead in no longer hiding their socialism. This is a lay-your-cards-on-the-table election, I guess, and a lot of "center-liberals" are unmasking themselves at what we always suspected they were -- simply the latest communists and socialists lying about their actual agenda.

Jonah Goldberg's noticing that, too.

Heres one useful tip: Whenever the substance of the Occupy Wall Street movement troubles Democratic politicians their response is to hide behind platitudes about free speech.

What he means is that when a Democrat is confronted with the socialism on parade here, Democrats will not address the substance of what OWS believes, merely their right to believe it. In this manner they avoid discussing their own nuanced views on socialism.

Its about their right to express themselves! Well, no its not. Free speech is important, but its really not the issue. It certainly wasnt even much of a concern when it was the Tea Party expressing itself which it managed to do without inviting mass arrests. Back then, leading Democrats considered dissent racist or un-American. Now they celebrate free speech so they can hide from dealing with the issues at hand honestly. Democratic politicians think that this gives them cover. It doesnt. It just shows that theyre afraid to disagree with the protesters either because they agree with them or because they know the protests are popular among their own supporters. Either way, its proof that the much ballyhooed wall between mainstream radicalism and mainstream liberalism is more like a speed bump.

Its one thing to have suspicions. Its another thing to have them confirmed. And for that, Im grateful for Occupy Wall Street.

The Great Unmasking continues apace.

But it is looking as if #OWS is turning into a sad sideshow. The left and the Obama campaign must be sorely disappointed. The mavens of the MFM are going to have to get their producers out there and really hustle.

Obama hated and attacked the Tea Party

The Tea Party's solutions are diametrically opposed to the occupier solutions

The Tea Party sees the taxation as too high, whereas the occupiers see government as too small for what we get from taxes.

92 77 The last polls I see have Romney ahead of Obama in VA and Perry tied. These are newspaper polls though so you can add some points to the Republican side. That means if things stay the way they are now Obama is in serious trouble. But before we get to the junk washing, it is a long long way to Nov 2012.

Precisely. Sabato is trying with all his mighty spinning might to try and make it appear to be a close thing. It ain't. VA will be one of the first states called for the pubbie. I live in NoVa, and the consensus opinion is he sucks or I made a real bad mistake voting for him. Thats right folks, the metros are openly apologizing for voting for the stool. Its over.

Have ANY of his public appearances been open to the "public" since he has taken office, other than the inauguration?

Isn't the security aspect way too severe, so that there is no way an open-air event could be mounted? I'm just wondering.

Inside, metal detector screening can take place at secure entry checkpoints.

But what is done about the potential for hecklers? Does every single attendee at these things have to be well-vetted?

Just wondering.

Possibly. I don't think it would hurt to refer the protests by location, ie OWS:NY. It seems redundant, but it doesn't help the meme to push the notion that 'all OWS protestors are commies' when people can go look at their local OWS and find something different.

Of course the MFM pretty much only cares about NY, so if that protest 'goes bad' for Obama, it won't matter. I'm just advocating caution, is all.

Ok, SO Obama still doesn't get the protest AT ALL. they want the people who are reckless, don't feel any obligation to work, and want to be rewarded... I think that he's going to have to rework his speech to get their approval.

Several years ago, I was on an advisory committee for a program at a local university. I also lectured one class a semester for the program. So, yeah, I don't ever want anyone to tell me that it's impossible to shut down a pointless college program because I actually have helped to do so.

One of our regular ONT moronettes had her purse stolen from her living room while she slept the other night, so I say to Ms OWS Field Kitchen; "Welcome to the Reality of the REAL 99 percent"

Of course, I prefer the Remington 870 to either.

We _want_ to be separated from our government. Or really them from us.

When I read the comment, I was thinking more the "us" versus "them" mentality when it comes to the average person versus the political elite. Obama tries to pretend that he is an outsider who is helplessly watching his designated political elite (Congress) neglect or shaft us (depending on the situation).

Stall. Freeze the ball.

Let the power of incumbency do its magic, helped by liberal self promotion from your billion dollar warchest.

Wait for the Republicanstm to anoint whichever PokeRhino the party officials choose to demoralize the Red base, then have your flying monkeys on streets and in the press chop em' up for good measure.

Proceed to use the 240 odd safe blue EVs as foundation so you can focus on a couple of remaining key states to buy, bribe or steal.

If all else fails, amnesty by Presidental action, and dare the Republicans to try and overturn it. Apply insta-citizen votes liberally to infected areas.

The only answer I can come up with is that the people who push it think they are the elite? They will be the powerful ones, they will have the housing, the food, the cars? Otherwise the idea that socialism/marxism/communism brings equality is just discredited. It brings death, famine, disease, industrial accidents, alcoholism, FAS, and backsliding.

Two possibilities (both apply, in general, but each will apply to different specific people). The first is your theory- they believe they'll be on top of the pile when the smoke clears.

The second is that they are true believers in the ideals of Marxism, and truly believe that "this time" it will work.

Honestly, I'm not sure which group scares me more. Probably the latter- since they'll never be persuaded that they're wrong, and at least some of the former are reasonable enough to have a discussion.

I think one reason they keep worshiping at the alter of Marx is that it is a clear indication that they are smarter and more moral than us. I think another reason is that if they give up on Marx they are going to have to take responsibility for all the lying, cheating, and stealing means they employed for the glorious end of Marxism. If Marxism is evil, then they are merely stupid, evil people who hurt a lot of people for their ignorant, evil goals. I also believe that when they think of the labor camps and re-education centers, they see themselves wearing the Sam Browne belts with pistols in their hostlers and a whip in their hand and they see us as the barefoot, striped pajama wearing sub-humans pushing the carts through the snow who are finally getting what we deserve.

And Marxism is a beautiful theory of mankind living in harmony free from want and fear. Shame if a little thing like reality interfered with the beautiful dream. Hey, hand me another brick for this new tower of Babel I'm working on, will ya, comrade?

272 This coverage is absurd. The numbers of Bowel Movementers are microscopic.

Scores of protesters had set up camp in downtown Greensboro since Saturday, and about 600 people marched through the city Sunday protesting what they say are financial inequities.

Well, Greensboro gets more people showing up for a freaking Homecoming Parade than there are Bowel Movements shuffling in lame protest.

Additional Greensboro Police will be on duty this weekend in order to ensure the city remains safe while two different events occur. In addition to the NC A&T State University Homecoming and Parade, which usually draws thousands of visitors to the area, city officials estimate several hundred other visitors will participate in a planned demonstration this Saturday, in what is labeled Occupy Greensboro.

How about this from 2000:

Come join the fun at The Greensboro Jaycee Holiday Parade which has been a tradition in Greensboro, NC for over 35 years. We had the state's first giant balloon parade in Greensboro that was held back on December 9, 2000. That first parade had 35,000 people come to watch as large Macy's style balloons, professional floats, drill teams, and the area's best high school marching bands paraded down the streets of downtown Greensboro.

35,000 people for a holiday parade and there are only 600 (tops) Bowel Movements.

The US expressed its concern to Israel over the release of prisoners involved in the killing of Americans as part of the Shalit deal, a State Department spokesman told Ynet.

Israel went ahead and freed the terrorists in question despite the American concerns. The spokesman said the US would continue to seek justice for its citizens following the release, but did not elaborate. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)

296 Thoughts?
Mine is that the belief inthat failed ideology is just infantile rebellion against, well, pretty much everything American. It's superficial, as you and I and all the Morons know. It's led to more waste, death, and destruction than any other modern "civilized" form of government, yet it has that undeniable appeal to those who want to be seen as hip (insert Che T-shirt here).
It's all an (anti-) intellectual pose that most sentient adults outgrow. However, in our feminized society, people now have license to remain children for much longer than is healthy, and this "spirit" says, "Go ahead, do whatever you want, you're not responsible. It's always someone else's fault, my little precious one."
It's a sickness of the mind, heart and soul. And we've allowed it to metastisize instead of excising it, as we should have done long ago. But our warped sense of "civility" prevents us from it.

Marx made the most common mistake made by philosophers postulating societal systems; he imagined mankind to be a significantly different being than what he is and has always demonstrated himself to be: Marx then built his society off of his imagined inaccurate model, and lo, every time it is tried it fails miserably. Yet still no matter how many times it fails, the bulk of the philosophical community refuses to reexamine Marx's view of humanity, and rather believes it was just poor implementation *again* and all we need is another try.

You can trace this line of seriously flawed thinking all the way back to Plato, The Republic, and the rule of the philosopher kings.

You know there may be an explanation there. I have a teenager who runs through his money and then looks to me. When I demur he critisizes what I do spend money on. In fact someone gave me a Burberry wallet as a gift and his girlfriend mentioned it. He wanted to complain that I spent $500 for a wallet and wouldn't give him money. He regrets mentioning that. Plato, The Republic, and the rule of the philosopher kings.

It's one of the things that tends to happen when God is denied. Jews and Christians (and, Muslims, too- on this part) know that man is flawed. "Fallen" is the term we use. Some others will admit this, too. It has many ramifications on life- one of those is that the only thing you can count on people doing is engaging in selfishness- at some level or other.

Any philosophy that ignores or denies this is fatally flawed from the outset. On the other hand, any philosophy that embraces this idea has a solid foundation from which to work.

This is why capitalism and Repubilcanism work (more or less) when Marxism and true Democracy do not.

...........why socialism/marxism/communism? Why? It's been discreditied

Dagny, my two cents on this is that they don't know what it truly is beyond the catchy platitudes. Somehow communism has not been taught to this newer generation. The Black book of Communism indicates that there was very little information from either Mao or Stalin, and piecing it all together was a monumental task. The authors were not popular amongst their academic colleagues for unmasking communism.

I think academia needs to answer for this. They seem to be promoting it.

And then at the end of a very looooong journey, there's the reward.

I raised a son myself and just got used to having to him making some dumb choices. Then, this summer...I heard thru the grapevine that he was struggling with a debt. It was kind of a big deal so I kinda reached in uninvited & tried to "help". I guess I was running thru my usual wordy, days-long lecture on responsibility-all the time this kid is laughing at me-Laughing! At me-which made me mad, his being ungrateful for my help and all so I went off on that, too, just for good measure. As it turns out, he had already made arrangements by himself. He got to remind me that he never asked for my help & pointed out that I heard of the debt by someone else than him...he can take care of himself now. I guess he's finally grown up. Odd feeling, that.

Cr@pping on the police car is viewed by many regular ordinary apolitical people in a positive way. I'm talking about gun loving, communist hating, God fearing, hippie punching redneck Americans. It's not that they hate the police enough to make #2 on a police car themselves, but having a moderate level of mistrust or dislike causes them to smile when someone else does it. It would be a mistake to call attention to one of the most popular things that happened at OWS.

404 215: Thoughts?
I think it's because communism inspires where capitalism doesn't.
Communism (socialism, fascism, whatever you want to call it) gives people purpose. People yearn for both of these things -- a sense that there's something great and pure, yet earthly at the same time. They want to transcend their lives and their way of life, but they also want something tangible and something that they can participate in.
This ideology comes with pre-packaged virtues and vices, too, and their all taken from childhood. Everybody shares, no one gets picked on or left out. The people who know better are in charge, but they'll act with everyone's welfare at heart. All you have to do to be part of the group is commit yourself to the group, and who doesn't want to be part of a group?
Capitalism and freedom go hand-in-hand as the way of adults, because they rely on people to make decisions for themselves. But capitalism fails to inspire most people because most people don't really care about other people's ambitions.
Capitalism and freedom also recognize two legitimate ways to acquire stuff: By earning it or having it given to you. To a communist, it's all about "deserve." Of course, to a communist, work is always for other people and generosity stops when the recipient stops saying Thank you. But the idea of "deserve" also serves as a source of inspiration as it's a backwards way of assessing self-worth.
(And what the other commenters said in reponse to your question. Seriously -- all that, too.)

Under this calculus O could use a good fistfight - red vs blue and the names don't matter. He just needs to scare off the moderates inclined to support Team Red (all the bigBlue states will still go Blue w/out theBlue leaning moderates).
