Bev Perdue: Okay, I Wasn't Joking. I Was Using Hyperbole.
Still No? Okay, My Point Was Sarcastic. Does That Do The Trick?

Oh, and a bonus "out of context" claim to boot.

"My point was one of sarcasm," Perdue told reporters in Thomasville. "We really just need to encourage our leaders who are elected to work together and solve America's problems."

She added: "It was taken out of context from my perspective. But honest to goodness, who would think something like that would be said seriously. It's ridiculous to have this kind of discussion about it."

People always claim that -- "out of context." Pro-tip for the media: The proper follow-up question here is "What context in your statement gives your words a different meaning?"

If you are vague on this point, as almost all Democrats are (because they're never asked the follow-up), you can just claim that some unknown context of earlier remarks completely changes the meaning, in context, of the quoted words.

"Out of context" is not just a Get Out of Jail Free card. I know Democrats and their media enablers believe it is, but it has a specific meaning: That in fuller context, with a fuller quotation provided, the quoted material gains a different meaning than the one suggested when that quote stands naked on its own.

So what "context" is Bev Perdue referring to?

In fact, the entirety of her remarks on this subject were in fact quoted.

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, N.C., according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

The context I see is "I hope that someone can agree with me on that," which expresses, in the common understanding, a hope that someone can agree with her on the claim she is making. (I know, it's a stretch, huh?)

1 "out of context" political speech for I was stupid and got caught.

2 What is scarier than the comments by the likes of Warren, Orszag and Perdue is the fact that 50 odd years of removing the study of the Constitution from school curricula (as well as teach revisionist history about America as the source of the worlds ills) have made these comments sound reasonable to many people under the age of 40 or so.

As Reagan so aptly put it, we are never more than one generation away from losing our freedom.

G-d help us all.

9 We really just need to encourage our leaders who are elected to work together and solve America's problems.

Here's the problem, Sugar Britches: one side (yours) has a vested interest in continuing the problems, or making them even worse, while the other side (ours) is calling out the problems your side created and seeks to eradicate them. So we're going to throw your side out of the room in the next election because you will never, ever own up to having created the problems in the first place.

42 Then there is this little inconvenient truth from Human Events:

Last week, Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby let it be known that more criminal charges are expected in the investigation of Gov. Beverly Perdue’s campaign finances.
Willoughby’s comments to WRAL-TV confirmed that the investigation into unreported airplane flights by the Perdue campaign is continuing.
But the prosecutor added that he has seen nothing that implicates Perdue.
Willoughby has been reviewing information collected by the State Bureau of Investigation into Perdue campaign finances after an initial investigation by the State Board of Elections found dozens of unreported campaign flights.
The elections board review led to a $30,000 fine against the Perdue campaign. The governor admitted mistakes, but said none were intentional.
Still, a Perdue contributor, Robert Lee Caldwell of Morganton, was indicted in February on obstruction of justice charges. The indictment alleges that Caldwell paid for a plane to fly Perdue to a campaign stop, had someone else report paying for it, and then reimbursed the man with cash.
While none of this implicates Perdue at this time, the investigation apparently is zeroing in on someone inside her campaign, which could prove quite damaging when she's up for election next year, assuming we still have them at that time. To no surprise, other North Carolina Democrats could soon be lining up to face Perdue in a primary.

Then, afterwards he had said that he was purely using sarcasm to prove the point that he is actually against slavery and that his comment was taken out of context and that to even bring this up was silly.

97 It's one thing for a writer or pundit to talk about suspending elections, but it's quite a different thing for a politician to mention it, especially one currently in office. IMO any politician making such a statement should be immediately expelled from office and permanently barred fromholding any position in government (elected or appointed).

A Dept. of Education SWAT team member sold a taxpayer-purchased skillet to a feminist college professor in California. The professor's meth-addicted son used the skillet to bludgeon his pregnant girlfriend with, and then told the cops that some "black dudes" kidnapped her. The kid throws the skillet in the ocean and some scientists in London find irrefutable evidence that this skillet is responsible for global warming and receding ocean levels. I'm sitting on a gold mine here cuz this story fulfills 3 or 4 templates of the liberal media. The fact that I can trace ALL of this back to Obama.
