10 Awesome graphics. NY-9 looks to be marginally trending Republican since 2000 in Presidential elections and would be a great message to send to Obama if we could pull it off. NV-2 is a must-win: a Republican district in a state we have to win in 2012.
Prediction: these are the first "preference cascade" elections, and the margin will be bigger than the polling shows.

11 You are all racist creationists who were in cahoots with the Koch Brothers and Andrew Breitbart to get Weiner out of there in order to get your way! If only you had listened to me when I was telling you Weiner was innocent!

65 60 Johnny,

Might be good to see if there was a metric for enthusiasm in '80. Frankly I suspect there was a preference cascade with no wide gap between Donk and elephant but a lot of crossover as is building now. That could make an interesting graphical chart as well.

Reagan's picture next to his metrics versus current numbers. The fact that NY9 is showing a GOP that is not more fired up than '10 against a not particularly depressed Donk population that is willing to cross over despite the GOP's relative lack of money there must be scaring the hell out of the DNC.

We get both something is going to happen.

75 Over the past few weeks, I've been out several times walking precincts in Reno as part of the Republican GOTV effort. I would carry a list of registered Republicans, and remind them that early voting had begun, as well as the location in their area where they could go to vote.

I found it very interesting that anytime I saw an American flag or red, white and blue bunting on a home, it was on my list, and that I didn't see similar patriotic displays on the houses that weren't.

I also found that if the home had a display, they had either already voted, or because they might not agree with the concept of early voting, were planning to vote for Amodei today.

78 I live in Midwood- 9th cd- turnout profoundly low this am; no lines and a few sporadic voters only.

While every on is focusing on the Jewish vote, I think the key demographic here is white Catholic voters. Guiliani voters I call them- They will go for Turner netter than 2 to 1 even though many are union or retired union households.

There are also significant muslim concentrations in this cd; I assume they can not be too happy with the Israel referendum issue.

There are more conservatives than you'd think in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville, Newton, etc. It's just that most realize the system is so crooked here it's usually best to work behind the scenes. There's virtually no viable Republican candidates or infrastructure here and frontal assaults typically end in failure. So it's all clandestine political intrigue to get what you want some of the time, while putting up with donk stupidity most of the time.

168 #140 anyone that owns a business and isn't rich enough to bribe make generous campaign contributions to the local Donks to get what they want is usually a closet Republican. They know all too well about politicians spending THEIR money and aren't happy about it. But in public will go along with almost anything in order to avoid a special attention shakedown.

All the city and state workers might think one way about issues, but because of their unions and possible retribution from bosses, will always line up and tow the party line. They are all slaves to the crooked machine.

There just isn't enough critical mass and gumption for a preference cascade to occur and return the state to two party rule. James Michael Curley, the Bulgers, and that cocksucker Tip O'Neil built an awful machine and it's going to take a real lot to dismantle it.

The only way I see this state being freed is if a federal right to work law and a law forbidding direct garnishment by unions was passed breaking the backs of monopolistic unions. There's just no freedom of association and too much money involuntarily being confiscation and redistributed by the machine for anyone outside of the machine to really tackle it.

Just got back from a reception for the Jesse Helm's center.

Sen Rubio was the speaker.

He is the real deal. His stump speech is a little long, but he looks to be 28 and he handles questions like he is 68.

Everything you have heard is true. He will be a VP or President.

198 I get so fucking angry when I think about whores who have babies and give them up for money.

A couple of years before we had our boy, I was working on a creative project in the ATL. A young, unmarried woman, and chain smoker was working with us on putting a project together. Jeebus, did she smoke, and smoke and smoke.

I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and couldn't be in the room long with her. Finally, knowing she'd told everyone she was giving her baby (her second) up for adoption (and a family had already adopted her unborn child), I asked her how she could continue to smoke the way she did knowing she was damaging her unborn child.

Her response? "It's not going to be my kid."

NV-2 will be a 14-20pt win for the Republican. Thank GOD we didn't let Angle batshit herself into that race.
NY GOP should offer up NY-23 and NY-26 to be axed in redistricting. Both are lean R but held by D's right now, R's offering to preserve NY-9 which will be held by an R but leans D. Lets face it- NY9 is trending R whereas NY23 has been trending more and more Democratic for whatever reason in the last few years, so in the long term thats a smarter method to go.

203 Raquel and JEM,

There are dueling large Amodei and Marshall signs at the intersection of Robb and Sharlands. The Marshall signs went up a couple of weeks before the Amodei signs, and his didn't go up until I contacted Amodei's HQ and told them to place some at that fairly busy intersection.

I voted last week during early voting, and during my precinct walks, a lot of the Republican households I visited said they had already voted for Mark, or were going to vote for him during the remaining early voting or today.

A few, maybe 3% - 5% said they were disgusted with the adds from both sides, and didn't plan to vote.

Less than 1% said they planned to vote for Fasano or Lehmann.

Still, I'm somewhat holding my breath.

BTW, Amodei is holding a Victory party in the Crystal Ballroom at the Eldorado, starting at 7PM. It's a no host bar. Pretty sure I'm going.

Posted by: sven10077 at September 13, 2011 09:07 PM (AEIYh)

295 I blame Major League for Obama. It's a simple 8 step process.

1. Major League is released.
2. Major League becomes a hit, put on constant cable TV rotation.
3. Thus giving Dennis Haysbert's career a boost as voodoo-using, no curve ball hitting, Pedro Cerrano.
4. The widespread enjoyment of Cerrano's character leads to an appreciation for Haysbert's deep, baritone voice.
5. This in turn lands Haysbert the role of President David Palmer on the hit show 24 as Americas first Black President.
6. Haysbert's commanding presence and authoritative voice pave the way for Obama, make white America comfortable with a strong, black man as President.
7. Americans elect Obama, hoping he is just a skinny, ashen, purple-lipped, mildly effeminate version of David Palmer.
8. Failure.

QED, Major League is directly responsible for the SCOAMF.

I really hope someone points out that the bast majority of these supposed chronic asthma cases are diagnoses made by quack doctors at the request of parents collecting disability for their kids. Never ceases to surprise me how many of the 'chronic asthma' children, with disability checks sent to their parents, have never used an inhaler, let alone filled a prescription for one, and no problem smoking or playing sports.

404 So I was checking in on CNN.com just nowto see what they had to say about what, to me, were the two big stories from today: Congress' investigation into the Solyndra scandal; and the likely Republican victory in the special election in NY-9 to fill Anthony Weiner's vacated seat. Weird, then, that at 8:15 PM CST, fifteen minutes after the polls closed in New York, there was literally nothing on CNN about the NY-9 election, and nothing about the Solyndra hearings. Weird. They had a story about American hitchhikers in Iran being freed, and about the new movie Contagion. Weird that they seemed to be hiding the hard news.

Or, maybe not so weird. I mean, it doesn't help Obama, does it, so it can't be news.

470 @Raquel

Your sister is in Precinct 1044.

BTW, my parents live up in Somersett (not Del Webb, because though they are 80, they didn't want to live only around "old people") as does a younger bro and his family. I also have a sister, her husband and their kids up in Caughlin Ranch.

The daughter of a college buddy lives in Spanish Springs.

Well, I'm off to the Amodei party.

Good luck to Turner and Mark!

Yeah, I just don't see how a Republican could ever carry Queens in a congressional race. Even under these circumstances. The winning scenario here was Weprin pulling 53-54% and getting clobbered in Brooklyn, which honestly still seems like what will happen.

799 Another quick bit of math.

Last I looked, Welprin had a 700 vote lead in Queens with 50% of precincts coming in. This would give him roughly 1400 extra votes out of Queens. The outstanding votes from Brooklyn should be about 16,000 if they are voting at the same rate as others Brooklyn precincts.

This means Welprin would need to beat Turner by 16 points in those outstanding Brooklyn precincts to win this.

In Queens: Orthodox 25% Conservative, Reform 40%;Uzbekistan 25%; other immigrant 10%.

The orthodox Jews in Queens are less conservative than the ones in Brooklyn, and the popular Jewish Press endorsed Weprin.Other Orthodox Jewish periodicals endorsed Turner.

Eh, I'm willing to let it drop, sven. On this night of celebration, let us bury the hatchet!

I agree with you about the double standards, but I honestly think that being held to a higher standard is GOOD for us -- it makes us stronger, more decent, and more electable -- and the standard was never something that bugged me in the first place. But yes, end of story and let's move on.
