Prepare For A Shock: NYT, WaPo Indulge in Apologetics For Operation Gunwalker; Pretty Sure They've Found The Real Villain (Darrel Issa)

This totally snuck up on me, like an Icelandic ghost at Netroots nation.

The NYT is continuing to tell the lie that most of the weapons which end up in Mexico came from the U.S. They also show their complete ignorance when they say the weapons sold were military rifles. They were not....

The WaPo is perhaps more thoughtful in their attack, attempting to look like real reporting. Using anonymous sources to take potshots at Issa, claiming he was briefed in on the operation last year.

This is disingenuous at best. How is it senior officials in the Justice Department were unaware of the operation yet Congress knew all about it? It simply doesn’t make sense.

No, of course not. Apparently Darrel Issa like totally knew everything and now when he asks for information they say "F*** you."

Uh-huh.

Via Sister Toldjah with still more.

24 This is only going to get worse for Holder JEF, and probably Jarrod too.
The Acting head of the BATFE was not the guy to sacrifice; the fact that he seems to be going with little resistance suggests that he knew nothing (if he did, he'd likely us it to protect his name reputation).
The involvement of an anti-gun lobbying group (HotAir, a day or so ago) in the operation bodes badly; they have no Executive Privilege.I suspect there are a few government employees whotheychapped severely, and will pass certain bits of information and documents to Issa.
If the lobbyistsget summoned by Issa, expect them to lawyer up, then be cracked open like a coconut being hit with a splitting maul.

You need to be able to tell people what paperwork you need, and how you will get it, so you don't sound .... problematic. This shoud get you some answers
Training is firing fully automatic weapons is also very useful ... one thing they do extraordinarily well is turn loaded ammo into used brass. 200 rounds for a semi-automatic is a lot of shots, particularly if you're trained. For full-auto, not so much ... and if you haven't had any training at all, no theory, no instruction, no practice, ......

Obama and his Chicago anti-gun tools cooked this up when this nonsense by Obama was debunked even by the leftist Factcheck.org outfit. Jarrett probably got the marching orders from Obama to set up a program that would turn his lies and bullshit into truth.

If the press covers it from an anti-drug lord perspective, which it would have to be ultimately, then they'll be killed. Simple as that. The press now colludes with the drug mafia -- actually asks permission and input from the drug lords -- on how to frame a story. No press/media, no story. No story, no political hay to be made. It is too dangerous/corrupt in Mexico for this to get resolved. And now we have Americans in authority inviting the chaos here.

90 O/T Any morons in coastal N. Florida, Georgia or SC? Jeebus. The smoke from the FL wildfires and Okefenokee swamp are unbelievable. Visibility around here is down to half a mile, and the heat, lack of rain and smoke are causing fish kills.

Just going out briefly today I could smell the smoke in my car. Ugh.

I don't know. The lastI heard, getting fully automatic firearms legally was possible, but I haven't kept up with the rules ... and then there's the question of law vs. rules vs. policy ...
Perhaps an atttempt to get a license is in order, with a trip to Small Claims court (it's a COURT, and the monetray value is under $5000.00, and No Lawyers Allowed) if there areproblems at thecity/county/state level, might be interesting.

You are getting smoke from the Okefenokee Swamp all the way to Savannah? Is the entire State burning?

A good alternative to using up valuable ammo is doing tp with a .22. An afternoon's fun is hella cheaper.

One of the funnest ways is to join the Charcoal Brigade. I gained a ton of respect for the weapons used in the Civil War by shooting the replicas plus one of the authenticated handguns I own. Especially firing into a ballistics gel block with a .44 cal revolver. No wonder there were so many amputations.

101 I don't know. The lastI heard, getting fully automatic firearms
legally was possible, but I haven't kept up with the rules ... and then
there's the question of law vs. rules vs. policy .

OK did a little checking as it had been awhile since I read up on this stuff. It is not all class III, just the ones people want, machine guns.
Machine guns are also treated differently. In 1986, as part
of the Firearm Owners' Protection Act (FOPA), Congress prohibited
individuals from owning machine guns, and made it an affirmative
defense that the machine gun was registered before the act took
effect (which was 5/19/86). See 18 USC sec. 922(o) for the law.
Thus as an individual you can only legally own a machine gun that
was registered before that date. Any registered after that date
can only be owned by SOT's, law enforcement, and government
entities.
If I am not mistaken all those 1986 law changes were the ones that made it virtually impossible for a private citizen to get and maintain a FFL as well.

These were the Clinton years.

I haven't heard anything of the sort. Only full-auto weapons registered by 1986 are transferrable, it's been that way since the 1986 NFA Act.
State laws vary- some mirror federal law, some ban them completely, others only allow private ownership of curio and relicautomaticweapons.

103 Good aim saves ammo.

104 These were the Clinton years.

Let me retract that. Our hero Ronald Reagan signed that bill which was supposed to "protect fire arms rights"

A commie from NJ named Hughes proposed the machine gun ban as an amendment, Charlie Rangle called for voice vote and said ayes have it. Republicans called for a recorded vote and he ignored them.

Senate Passed with the amendment despite protests.

This is how our government works.

Posted by: Vic at June 22, 2011 06:58 PM (M9Ie6)

105 In any case the way it works is any full auto weapon is illegal if made after 1986.

Guess what that means over time.

112 Our dear FLOTUS said deWon gets up early in the morning and doesn't stop 'til late at night keeping up with everything that's going on. He makes sure to read all reports from all depts. in his administration, because he wants to knowmore than they do when they have their briefings So, if you believe her, he had to know what the hell was going on. And, who the hell believes he actually does that. Maybe, maybe not. Who the fuck knows.
Anyway, I do believe he and Holder knew what was going on. Around the time all this crap started is the same time they and Big Sis were telling everyone that most of the weapons being used in Mexico were coming from the US. Awful hard to believe that they had reports (yeah right) of that, but had no damn idea that the DOJ , ATF, and whoeverthefuck were involved in Operation Dumbfuck Gunwalkerrunnerwhatever. Anytime those asswipes are denying something, it's a pretty good bet they're lying.
