10 OT (already):

"[The Obama Administration] argued that United States forces are at little risk in the
operation because there are no American troops on the ground and Libyan
forces are unable to exchange meaningful fire with American forces."

So under this line of reasoning, Obama could nuke... oh... Haiti (came immediately to mind as a good target for nuking), without congressional approval because the enemy would be "unable to exchange meaningful fire" with a B-2.

24 Okay, I got tinglies just from reading the excerpt. That's some powerful stuff.

And, on the JEF's excuse for why he hasn't sought Congressional approval for military action in Libya... I'm good with that. Since what it means is that he's basically saying "I'm ignoring WPA just because I think I get to." Now, we'll see evidence exhibit ZZAQ proving that Boehner is just his name (as opposed to something of which he's capable) because he'll fold like a cheap suit. However, if we had principled Representatives, they'd defund the effort and move to impeach the President forthwith.

25 Why didn't Mitch McConnell help Rubio get onto the Senate floor sooner? It's been six months since he was sworn in.

There was a post-election compilation of Rubio's social media strategy during his Senate campaign, which was massively successful (especially in the one important measure, his election). Rubio is a phenomenally good speechifier, especially when his text is the greatness of America.

That's bullshit, and not only because he has no duty to be "loyal" to his race. It's also bullshit because his conservative views are absolutely the norm among Cuban-Americans. It's like saying that black Americans should support Muammar Qaddafi (a white man), because he's African.

Actually, the hardcore Hispanic nationalists openly hate Cuban-Americans because of their opposition to Fidel Castro.

Actually, 48% were already retarded enough to vote for John Kerry, and add in a few million voters who were understandably pissed about the bank and auto bailouts--as well as millions who didn't vote because of them, who would otherwise have voted for McCain--and Obama had enough votes to get across the finish line.

It's tempting to think of all Obama voters as being like the woman talking about "Obama money," but it isn't accurate. That woman and people like her have voted Democrat all their lives.

"Another American Century"

there are only two ways forward for us. We will either bring on another
American century, or we are doomed to witness America’s decline."

And:

"If we give America a government that could live within its means, the
American economy will give us a government of considerable means. A
government that can afford to pay for the things government should be
doing, because it does not waste money on the things government should
not be doing. If we can deliver on a few simple but important things,

Was there some dustup with Uncle Jimbo at Black Five that I missed?

This is not the real Uncle Jimbo. I remember this one popping up a couple of weeks ago with really trollish comments. Someone should get the real Uncle Jimbo to come over here and kick his ass (metaphorically-speaking, of course and I denounce my violent rhetoric!)

91 This passage in Rubio's speech is the definitive statement of what makes Conservatives different from Liberals, in my opinion:
We should never forget who we Americans are.
Every single one of us is the descendant of a go-getter. Of dreamers
and of believers. Of men and women who took risks and made sacrifices
because they wanted their children to live better off than themselves.
And so whether they came here on the Mayflower, on a slave ship or on
an airplane from Havana, we are all descendants of the men and women
who built here the nation that saved the world.

Bush angst plus McCain indecision on the economy plus MAKE HISTORY!!ELEVENTY!! plus lack of real differentiation between the two plus poor debate performance = President Obama.
Make History is done.
McCain isn't the nominee.
Obama is more indecisive now on the economy.
Depending on his opponent, debates for Obama will be perceived AT BEST to be a draw.
He is closing in on toast.

102 Almost half the country doesn't pay taxes, and adding up the number of people who qualify for food stamps, housing assistance, SSI, etc etc that's a lot of voters who are inclined to support more free stuff.
Then add in the 8 years of relentless attacks on Bush republicans, and those squishes in the middle decided that it would be good to give control of the country over to a blank slate who promised them the world.

New York, eh, not really. They have a DINO as their Governor who has fought harder against the unions and bloated government than Pataki or Spitzer.
They have a Republican Senate as well. Democrats and unions in the state are activelycalling for Cuomo's head now, but his popularity is still in the high 70s.
States totally controlled by Democrats:
California
Hawaii
Illinois
Maryland
Delaware
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Vermont
Massachusetts.

Was in L.A. a few years ago on my way to the gym. Bumper sticker in front of me says "A day without God is like a day without sunshine". First song I heard when I got to the gym went "I'm only happy when it rain".... I found that deliciously ironic and had a good workout.

I find that I don't like upbeat music when I pump iron. I prefer ballady or inspirational stuff, but I like prefer minor keys anyway. (Of course, it can't be too slow, like the intro to Stairway to Heaven.)

Conan O'Brien has a good perspective on that.Eleven years ago I gave an address to a graduating class at Harvard. I
have not spoken at a graduation since because I thought I had nothing
left to say. But then 2010 came. And now I'm here, three thousand miles
from my home, because I learned a hard but profound lesson last year and
I'd like to share it with you. In 2000, I told graduates "Don't be
afraid to fail." Well now I'm here to tell you that, though you should
not fear failure, you should do your very best to avoid it. Nietzsche
famously said "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." But what
he failed to stress is thatit almost kills you. Disappointment
stings and, for driven, successful people like yourselves it is
disorienting. What Nietzsche should have said is "Whatever doesn't kill
you, makes you watch a lot of Cartoon Network and drink mid-price
Chardonnay at 11 in the morning."This is from his commencement address to the 2011 class at Dartmouth. The item is well worth a click.

California has an independent commission too btw- so Dems don't have their fingers on it as much. Currently it benefits Democrats more, the new plans, but hispanics are up in arms about not enough representation, so to appease them they may inadvertantly make the IE even more Republican, limiting much of the damage.

Yeah but that's normal for politicians before Obama and Clinton. These last Democrat offerings are the exception to the rule of American politics, we've just gotten so many speeches out of Obama its jarring to hear someone not be violently arrogant and colossally self-focused.

143 I want to like the guy. I want him to be all that you 'roons keep sayin' he is. But I sure as hell heard a different speech from most of you.

I get it that he wants to attract more to the party. I get that. But why does he have to sound like McCain? Why does he keep his distance from Tea Party types? I hear a lot of "if we can only compromise and repair, the American People will pull though" talk. Nothing about killing the big-gevernment initatives that caused th problem. I don't want them "fixed". I want them gone.

I love his "America can be great again" position. I love the fact that he manages to see the knife at the throat posed by the jihadis. I just don't see any evidence of him understanding Individual Liberty.

I hope to hell I'm wrong, but I get the sense that he wouldn't fight to kill Obamacare. Tweaking it seems good enough.
