Stop saying "tax cuts."

Instead we need to use the phrase "keep more of their own money."

As in, "This plan allows Americans to keep more of the money that they earn."

Obama the Democrats are like Sybil.

After Giffords got shot, without any evidence the Democrats pinned it directly on the Republicans.

A few weeks later the Democrats were playing nice-nice and inviting the Republicans to sit next to them at the SOTU address to show the American people that Republicans and Democrats are not enemies.

Then the WI union-govt fight began and the Democrats hurled every nasty insult at the Republicans.

And then later it was time to "work together" on Continuing Resolutions.

Then later, when the budget battle got heated, the Democrats turned nasty again with outlandish slander about how the Republicans want to "kill" women and children.

Today, Obama, in the same speech, called for bipartisan cooperation and told the American people that the Republicans are the enemy.

It's genius because the Democrats are so wacky and volatile that they've got the Republicans acting like a long-tailed cat in a room full of rockin chairs.

39 NBC puts it this way:

But more than anything else, the address at George Washington University
was the president's first 2012 campaign speech a week after he formally
filed for re-election. And it was an effort to define the Republican
Party -- arguments we’re sure to hear over the next year and a half.
...

Yet how the math adds up to achieve those reductions remains an open
question. The White House hasn’t posted a plan, and the president called
for creating another group, led by Vice President Biden and
congressional leaders, to come up with legislation.
Acknowledging
that many Americans and politicians might not agree with his approach,
the president called to bring Democrats and Republicans together -- once
again trying to rise above the fray (despite his tough critique of the
GOP's budget plan). "This morning, I met with Democratic and Republican
leaders in Congress to discuss the approach I laid out today,” he said.
“And in early May, the vice president will begin regular meetings with
leaders in both parties with the aim of reaching a final agreement on a
plan to reduce the deficit by the end of June."He ended his
speech by calling for common ground -- even after his harsh words for
the Ryan plan. "Though I’m sure the criticism of what I’ve said here
today will be fierce in some quarters, and my critique of the House
Republican approach has been strong,” the president said. “Americans
deserve and will demand that we all bridge our differences, and find
common ground."

How does that work? A slight rise in defense spending should not eliminate the cuts by that much. My understanding is also that budget rules means mandatory and related items are discounted, so I see this new WaPo piece as being dishonest. From my research, what would be counted as "actual" under rules is anywhere from $14.7B to slightly above $28B.

128 Okay, this is the last stupid comment I'm posting from Politico (thankfully, there's no handgun nearby, or I might shoot myself):

Did any of you wingers even hear the speech or are you just
chiming in with the same old tired talking points that you've been
programmed to mindlessly regurgitate? This should have been a prime time
speech because it was brilliant in laying out the responsibility of
government as outlined by Abraham Lincoln. Itexists to protect it's
people and make them stronger as unit than they would be as individuals.
This concept wasn't fleshed out until the mid to late 20th century but
by all accounts that was the pinnacle of an all inclusive and prosperous
America. Idaresay if anyone could turn back time and make that 2000
choice again...between continuing the Clinton era of fiscal
responsibility and sustained economic growth instead of 2 terms of Bush
Jr home alone, then Gore would win in a landslide.

What we have now is a diverging vision of what this country and it's
government should be. The GOPwants to take us back to the wild west.
Survival of the fittest. The biggest gun takes all. Obama wants to
preserve the community spirit and security that all of us as Americans
deserve. Everyone sacrifices. Everyone benefits. There is no doubt in my
mind that Obama's vision is what the voting majority of America will
ultimately choose.

165 "I've never seen anything like it; this propaganda and stream of disinformation is the most crafty and sophisticated of its type."

Actually I don't think the disinformation is particularly crafty and sophisticated. It's pretty blatantly bullshit. It's just that the liberal media are promoting him to the point where they are deliberately and consciously playing down the bullshit aspect of what he says.

His leadership is poor to nonexistent. He and members of his administrations deal with controversies by coming up with the stupidest euphemisms imaginable. He has continued many of the policies that he bitched at Bush over, while not apologizing to Bush, or admitting that he didn't know what the hell he was talking about when he criticized Bush. He has increased spending to horrendous levels, all the while babbling about "fiscal responsibility". He has set up a commission to deal with the debt, because he doesn't have the balls to deal with it himself and take a dam stand. No one knows what the hell he really believes in other than golfing, vacationing , and hanging with celebrities. When a major problem arises involving foreign policy or American interests, he diddles around for weeks because he doesn't have the brains or the balls to make a decision.

If a republican president behaved like this he would be crucified in the liberal media, and Jon Stewart would be mocking him on a nightly basis. But because these people in the media are all liberal they ignore the obvious deficiencies of this dolt.

Are the media people, Stewart, Cooper, Letterman, Couric, all of them, so lacking in self awareness, that they don't see how idiotic they look for pretending to be oblivious to all this?

expecting an olive branch. Instead, his speech was excessively
partisan, dramatically inaccurate, and hopelessly inadequate to address
our fiscal crisis. What we heard today was not fiscal leadership from
our commander-in-chief; we heard a political broadside from our
campaigner-in-chief.

“Last year, in the absence of a serious
budget, the President created a Fiscal Commission. He then ignored its
recommendations and omitted any of its major proposals from his budget,
and now he wants to delegate leadership to yet another commission to
solve a problem he refuses to confront.

“We need leadership,
not a doubling down on the politics of the past. By failing to
seriously confront the most predictable economic crisis in our history,
this President’s policies are committing our children to a diminished
future. We are looking for bipartisan solutions, not partisan rhetoric.
When the President is ready to get serious about confronting this
challenge, we'll be here.”

“President Obama’s proposals are too little, too late. Instead of supporting spending cuts that lead to real deficit reduction and true reform of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, the President dug deep into his liberal playbook for ‘solutions’ highlighted by higher taxes. With over 20 million people who are unemployed or who have stopped looking for work, the last thing we should be doing is raising taxes on job-creators, entrepreneurs, and small business owners across America.”
Or...maybe not.

Okay ... one more comment. I would note, this is not the first time that the Indonesian Imbecile has pulled this particular trick. This is what he did for the troop surge in Afghanistan. He said that it took six months for the recommendations to come to him for the full strategic review that he ordered, but that facts had changed on the ground in the interim (as if the Joint Chiefs had intentionally delivered an obsolete report to him, that only Barky understood was obsolete) and, therefore, required a new strategic review, which Barky then requested (and whihc then took another 3 months).People let the Indonesian Imbecile get away with this before, so he figured why no pull it again for the debt problem, to intentionally stall as Barky always does as part of his efforts to destroy our nation.
Okay, That's really it for me. Later, folks.

3.) Seal the border and start sending illegals home. Troops on the border.

4.) Folks riot over this stuff? Insurrection Act. Welcome to your new hell.

5.) Investigate media as 'cartels'. Also hit 'em for violating campaign financing laws by massive 'in kind' contributions.

6.) Investigate GE for (fraud, violating sanctions against Iran, unfair business practices. other corporatist douchebaggery).

Obama's unearned arrogance in a nutshell. This is what you get when someone is constantly being told they are brilliant without ever having to actually accomplish anything.

It's bad enough when mommy and daddy tell a kid he's gifted and talented, but when the media and public deludes a politician in this manner, it is disastrous. It think Obama really believes that he is "the one who will lower the oceans".

In a way, yes. If worse comes to worst, remember that
our main debts are to entitlements that no one is entitled to. No more

What pisses me off is this fence could have been built with some of the $5 Trillion dollars spent over the last 3 years. Seriously, what the hell did America get for $5 TRILLION dollars? Name one damn, monumental thing...
I don't see many movies, but one of my favourite games is finding the price tags of the schemes of the evil geniuses and imagining what we could get for $5 TRILLION dollars.
For example:
1. There's a Scarlet Johanson (sp?) movie. I think it's called 'The Island". In the movie, rich people paid good money so that an $800 BILLION dollar facility could be made where humans are cloned and their organs are harvested later if needed. What'd we get for $5 Trillion?

Congressional approval ratings have been in the single-digit to teen range for more than 8 years now, yet the overwhelming majority of the usual suspects keep getting elected.

Folks keep expecting things to get fixed, but here's what has to happen first:
1. kill or imprison everyone in the media on treason convictions
2. Declare 52% of the country too stupid to vote.
3. Use the next 6 year period to vote every last current congress critter out of office and replace them with people who can, at minimum, pass the exam that they give to immigrants before they can become citizens

Of course, all of the above is as unethical and unconstitutional as the crap that Democrats routinely do, so then we'd need to include ourselves as part of the problem.

He's fooling some of the people. But some of the others, the teachers, public sector union members, welfare recipients, are just so motivated by self interest that they really don't care about what happens down the road, including the consequences that will affect their own children and grandchildren. Many of the special interest groups do know that what they are doing is unsustainable. They just don't give a shit. I have completely lost respect for the teaching profession.

This is China's conundrum: they are heavily invested in US debt, and should they need a large amount of cash (like, idunno, say if severe inflation were to hit them due to higher commidity prices causing thier real estate bubble to pop) the place they would look to was by cahing in debt. But if they get too much too soon they risk causing a panic and this would cause the treasury to devalue the dollar further making the cash they so desperately need worthless.
China may have us by the throat, but we have them by the balls. Theres an old saying that if you have to owe someone, owe them a lot. Enough that your ruin brings thiers as well.

319 If you are walking down the street and see a stranger having a heart attack and you didn't administer CPR.....did you kill him?
Posted by: Lemmiwinks at April 13, 2011 05:37 PM (pdRb1)
Trick question.
No, I called the government officials. It's the government's job to take care of people in need. If a robber breaks into my home, I can't take action and I'm supposed to wait for the police.
If someone collapses in the street, I'm supposed to call the authorities.
You'll all be Canadian soon and understand this. God, I loathe what Canada has become.

329 I thought we hired a European style medical rationing board to tell a doctor to either kill grandma or maybe give her pain pills instead of necessary surgery? I'm confused.
