Wow, not all Scandis are completely useless:
If you think James Franco is an overachiever, you clearly know nothing about action star Dolph Lundgren. Best known for playing brutal Russian boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, Lundgren's been in more than 40 action films, including 2010's The Expendables. However, before all that, Lundgren was a hardcore scientist. He has a genius-level IQ of 160, speaks seven languages, earned a bachelor's degree from Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology and a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney. Lundgren also earned a Fulbright to study at MIT, but, bitten by the acting bug, he left for Hollywood after just two weeks in the program. Now there's a resume worthy of a "bunk" comment from both men and women. Posted by: Kratos (Ghost of Sparta) at March 08, 2011 09:53 PM (tdjI9) 33

I hope you're right about that. It just seems like the revolutionaries are having their way with anyone who's even mildly cooperative/deferential with/afraid of us. It's like the DS9 episodes involving the Mirror universe-we influenced our allies just enough to make them too weak to survive in that part of the world. That is an ULU, and I know this because I'm from AK and we have used those knives for just about 4,000 years.
Where in AK? I wish I would have bought one of those when I was up there (cruise along the coast with Deutschfreund), but I only brought back postcards and quilt fabric... ULU is one of the cool dump-your-U Scrabble words. The best AK Scrabble word is UMIAQ. I recall squealing like a small girl when we saw one in the Alaskan Sealife Center (did I get the name right? Tough time for me. My mom has been having these...swollen lymph nodes in her neck. She also was having rashes. She thinks she has Lupis, but...they're going to test her to make sure it isn't some form of cancer first. You have to make sure.
It's scary for me, because I lost my dad a few years ago. I'm only 25, if something happens to her...I don't know, I get paranoid. I don't have a lot of friends, family is everything to me. And yet...my grandmother is senile, my dad is gone and my mom is worrying me. All I have left are her and my brother. She's probably fine, I'm just paranoid. I try to think positive, but life has never been all that positive for me. I don't want to sound like a loser libtard, but I've had a very ...weird life. Just got to keep the faith. None of you guys know me...it's just easier for me to talk to strangers sometimes. Heh With people I know...I can't talk about how I 'feel'. Posted by: Crazee at March 08, 2011 10:52 PM (xsoRi) 193

Steevy, my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your grandmother. I think God keeps a special corner of heaven for grandmothers, though, and if she hooks up with mine, she'll be in very good company. Was it your mom's mother? I can't believe what your mom is going through and will concentrate my prayers on her (just in case they have any effect, I never know). Big hug to you, bro.

When this psychopath is released, I want the cops on him 24/7, then arrest him when he so much as jaywalks and litters, then send him back to prison for life on 3rd strike. Only because I don't want the Dad to end up in jail over this scum. Posted by: Mayday at March 08, 2011 11:04 PM (TRgli) 203

@203 "tcn":
Thanks. "Another way to go", as in "things will turn around?" . I'm just in a down mood and I mostly lurk here to read the comments here. I think I saw someone at NRO link here once, and I loved the place instantly. A few years back, I kind of lost everything and it's been a tough climb back. Especially with the terrible economy. I'm barely surviving on 30k a month at most and ..most people my age are incredibly shallow and obsessed. Especially when my pathetic bitch of an ex-fiance makes all my friends believe I cheated on her. And they believe her instead of me...so fuck them, I'll get new friends. And none of them liked when I became more religious and conservative anyway. It was just a matter of time. So, no friends. Then my family too? Come on, man. I pray constantly that I don't lose that too. It'll turn out alright, I just needed to vent. I don't want to be a whiner, many people have it worse than me. I think I need to move, start over fresh once I've saved money for college. I planned to go to a broadcasting school in Chicago nearby, but I probably could use new surroundings. And...I could use less money taken out of my checks. heh Posted by: Crazee at March 08, 2011 11:15 PM (xsoRi) 215

I think what scares me more than losing my mom is having her live in pain. My dad was disabled while my mom was pregnant with me, and I saw him in pain most my life. In fact, I couldn't work because I had to take care of him. Kind of hurts the "work experience" on my resume.
But yeah, I had to see him barely walk and ...I don't know, I can't take that again. I lost him on Christmas Eve 2005, but a lot of bad memories are coming back now for some reason. I appreciate the kind words, guys. It's nice to feel welcome. I actually tried to join a conservative forum a few months back, and got scared by some of hostility I got. IANAL - but can the judge set aside a not guilty for and impose guilty? For some reason, I think it can go the other way - overturn guilty and impose Not guilty. The biggest sticking point for the union isn't collective bargaining ..
The biggest sticking point is that if the state doesn't do the union's job of collecting dues through paycheck deductions, then the union has to do the collection themselves, and they send suspension notices to the employer, who notifies the employee if the dues are not paid up to date. They want to collect their cash without pissing off their members. Posted by: kbdabear at March 08, 2011 11:37 PM (vdfwz) 235

He's now Jimmy "The Deficit is Too Damn High" McMillan, and he's switching to the Republican Party and may run for President Given that most of the conversation reveals McMillan doesn’t offer much beyond repeating a few slogans (including this new gem: “Hannity Is Too Damn Smart!”), it seems like Obama doesn’t need to worry about this candidate. Near the end, McMillan vows to “whip” Obama like his son, to “pat him on the behind,” and to send him back to his room to go to sleep. (2) Senate: Dingy Harry is holding two CR test votes; one is for the R plan, the other for the D. The threshold for each is 60 votes, with each vote designed to fail. Do any of you guys actually have close friends that are socialists?
I don't even know anyone who isn't. I'm not sure I ever have. Even my parents were commies. Professionally. The way I avoid beef about it is by approaching whatever stupid political noise-of-the-day people inject into a conversation as ephemeral b.s. that illustrates a broad-enough-to-sound-maybe-leftist principle. "If fuckin' _____ is President, I'm moving to the Netherlands." "It doesn't matter who the president is. Did _______ do anything you wanted him to? No. And _______ didn't do what his people wanted. The machine runs how it runs." Et cetera. Whatever goes vague quickest. Everyday lefties can't quickly abstract from events or personalities (Palin!), because they don't believe or even understand the intellectual shit they say they believe—they're just bigots with stock routines—and the conversations die (usually with them nodding) within a couple short exchanges. After that happens once or twice, they'll avoid the situation. I don't want to talk about that stuff either, because I don't want to have to punch everybody, so it works out. I've only had to resort to "Dude, I don't care," with people who got suspicious because I won't name names about five times. They were all commies. Professionally. Che lovers are just serial-killer fans. They're fucked up geeks. Talk to them like they are—but deviously. No one can handle the truth. You can subtly embarrass them out of their insanity, sometimes, by, for example, making it sound gay. (I mean actual man-on-man gay. Like, they're using Che's gun/penis to fantasy-penetrate other dudes.) If that doesn't work, they're probably insane. Just walk away. 500 Isn't it crazy that conservatives are too sensitive when their views are slandered and distorted? Yet, when a leftist gets mocked...they go fucking batshit! It's hilarious.
That's because they lie about everything. Duh. @ Merovign : Yeah, I get what you're saying about making excuses. But honestly, I hate meeting people. I despise it. I don't go to clubs or bars. I always meet people through school or work. And besides, if I want to date...I need to be more attractive. No girl wants a guy barely making it. Well, unless I was super suave. Which I'm not. That said, I do occasionally hang with people from work. But our relationship is shallow, nothing substantive. Posted by: Crazee at March 09, 2011 02:25 AM (xsoRi) Excuses, excuses, excuses. I started out making excuses, it became a lifestyle. Not to bring my bitching about my life up again, but now I'm sick as Hell and I may die. I'm out of work, I spent all my savings, I have no children and I'm alone. Because there was always a reason I was too busy or wasn't good enough or whatever. Bullshit, someone will think the world of you, you have to (pardon the expression) beat the bushes until you find them. I'm only telling you all this ugly personal shit because it's the worst mistake I ever made and you're making it. Just keep your eyes open, and don't make excuses. What I'm sayin'. Take what you can fucking get right now with a big grin on your face. To be slightly serious with a handful of late night morons, there is only so much of life one is willing to devote to politics, i.e., who gets to force whom to do what. After a certain point, there are better returns for one's time than pushing for politically broad changes. So you adjust accordingly. If it's clear that even your so-called political allies are unable or unwilling to redress grievances, you put more of your time into taking what you can for yourself. It was ever so. I recall Alan Watts, a British drunk and lecher from the sixties who popularized Zen half a century ago, saying something very legitimate. He said that when society is in order and on the middle way, the wise man turns outward to others, to society. However when society is in disarray and has lost the middle ground, the wise man turns inward and looks after himself. We're headed into years when it will likely be better for you and your family to think first of yourselves and society last. Posted by: George Orwell at March 09, 2011 02:39 AM (AZGON) 521

This has always been my one point of sympathy with Teh Governator. In a state like CA, in which so much of public policy is determined by ballot props, a governor who was elected on a reform platform required the ongoing support of the PEOPLE to advance anything substantive. In 2005, the people shot down every single one of his ballot props; initiatives that could really have made a difference. CSM-101 should have continued fighting anyway, but if the voters of CA wouldn't back him when he tried to move on what they elected him to do, how much could one really blame him for saying "fuck it"? @Merovign: Yeah, you're probably right. I see it with people around me, even. I think I'm kind of insecure, actually. I need to change my habits. I'm way too much of a loner, as it is. I've never been social, though. And when I did go out, it all fucked me over worse than Obama did. Broken people attract btoken people. You can never find meaningful relationships if you aren't ready for them. Thing is, I probably am more mature and responsible than most guys my age. I'm just a coward, basically. It's kind of weird that I want a career in broadcast media, and yet I'm a complete buffoon talking to people face to face.
@Nanny: Yeah, I know! My brother goes dancing reguarly. He's...6'0 285 ibs. BIG guy. He dances with girls all the time. It doesn't go anywhere, but still. @Rum: Hah! It's true, though. I remember the chick I mentioned earlier used to try to get me out to places. I was content with the people I already knew. It's cool, though. I just feel awkward around new people, especially in big gatherings. I don't know anyone, and they're all talking to each other. I CAN occasionally be charming one on one...occasionally. In a group? I become either a recluse or a clown. On the plus side(?), I'm apparently attractive to girls that hate their father. That's actually not a good thing. CSM-101 should have continued fighting anyway, but if the voters of CA wouldn't back him when he tried to move on what they elected him to do, how much could one really blame him for saying "fuck it"?
You can blame him because he's a politician (always worthy of blame), and ran on the whole "I'm an outsider, I'm different" platform, PLUS a fiscally conservative platform. Frankly, the only poll that matters is the one where people actually vote. He won on the basis that "I'm not spending like Gray Davis did." If he couldn't get support for his promised fiscal temperance, he should have suffered the consequences instead of caving in. At any rate he didn't have to go whole watermelon and leap far left with the hydrogen fuel-global warming bullshit. Just an arrogant opinion over here. when they see it and they don't fuck with them for the most part. The funny thing to me was always how NICE even the worst areas of OC looked, compared to the bad neighborhoods I'm used to. I wonder if Walt imagined what Anaheim would transmogrify into. Actually, I guess he didn't; he was constantly grumbling about how much more land he would have bought up if he could have foreseen what would grow up around DL. Well, this IS Clownifornia. The voters will not only extend the tax hikes, they will likely vote in new bond issues. At least one of the two. At any rate, somehow taxes will stay high here in CA, or rise. Inevitable, like the sun. Posted by: George Orwell at March 09, 2011 03:15 AM (AZGON) 582

That is an outstanding, really fine analogy. That best describes my worst fear. I usually view The Nation Below Canada as a very large ship. It turns, but only slowly. In the end, the people of CA have to decide they've had enough. I despaired that this would ever happen last November, when Boxer and Brown both won by 10-point margins. If that could happen in a year like 2010, then CA is finished. It saddens and frustrates me. A large, diverse state so rich in natural and human resources should not be going down such a path. Jake, the other night you referenced taking some folks out and doing some 880 yard shooting. There are rifles that shoot flatter at 880, but all in all, a .308 is tough to beat inside 880 Posted by: Jake_in_Idaho_ at March 09, 2011 03:28 AM (BLb4+) 600

California had so much going for it. Once upon a time it even had a Republican party with a pulse. Now it's following NY and MI, two other states that had so much and committed suicide
Now, this falls under the "society is a large ship" analogy. While we may agree with the assessment in principle, you visit NY or CA and you'll find lots of expensive stores and restaurants full of people, lots of jobs, lots of traffic, lots of luxury. It is difficult to claim these states have committed suicide when they are clearly so flush with wealth... Which in turn brings up the question "What about the poor parts?" Are there really more poor people and places in CA than in Mississippi? Arkansas? I don't know how to answer that. However, one could visit Dubai and marvel at the wealth, see only glamour and glitter. Yet an adversarial BBC or CNN might show you documentaries detailing the poverty beyond the skyscrapers and shopping malls. You notice there are no documentaries detailing the poverty and squalor Victor Davis Hanson describes in the CA Central Valley. What is my point? Perhaps that it will take a very drastic decline in most people's standards of living before anyone in ultramarine places like NY or CA admit there is a problem. A large ship or a large economy can go on for a long time on momentum alone, long after the means of propulsion have gone. Much like a charging rhino, a bullet in the brain will kill it, but with so much momentum it won't immediately drop. You can see fine restaurants and expensive shops in the Harbor District of Baltimore, and if you only saw that area you'd think it was a boom town. Precisely. Yet so few see CA in that light. Consider, can you get a job as easily in Bowling Green or San Antonio as you can in LA? What kind of jobs? I don't know. While Scott Walker and the WI bruhaha have sucked up much of the oxygen on this issue, there are several moves afoot in other states to curb public union power. Reuters, of all places, has a fairly balanced summary article on similar efforts in other states:

G'day Vic
Here's some more good news (unless you are a dead Dem voter): Thirty-two states considering voter ID rules This article is not balanced at all but still good news. Posted by: GnuBreed at March 09, 2011 05:02 AM (h0RtZ) 646
Mornin Vic, currently 6 degrees and nothing blooming...
Posted by: beanervt at March 09, 2011 05:05 AM (x9fU1) 647
Yep, we have a bill here that has been stalled in the legislature for several years. It is expected to finally make it out this year and all the Dem PR rags are raising hell.
What is amazing to me is that they scream for more and more regulation, including licenses for just about everything....except voting. And these are not licenses although that in itself would be a good idea. make people pass a test to vote that proves they know not to use toilet paper to clean up holes in the ground. Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2011 05:07 AM (M9Ie6) 648
What I'd rather see Gnu, is only taxpayers get a vote...the rest of you free ride mofuckers piss off

47.2° here and the Bradford Pear and Camellias are in full bloom. The Jane's Magnolia is started to bloom now. The dogwoods and then the cherry and apple trees. Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2011 05:13 AM (M9Ie6) 650

I would love to see that as well, unfortunately we screwed that up with an amendment that went too far. Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2011 05:15 AM (M9Ie6) 651

I had planned on grilling hot dogs outside today but it looks like rain so will have to do something else. Grandson has a limited number of things he will eat. So far he only likes pepperoni pizza and hot dogs. Damn kid doesn't even like chicken fingers. Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2011 05:47 AM (M9Ie6) 657
Was just looking at the weather radar and there's some heavy rain down your way. looks like snow and rain is headed headed at us.

Happy birfday, Vic.
68 and foggy here, clear and sunny later. Beanervt, thought of you this past afternoon. Had to mow my yard. It's time again for weekly edge/trim/mow/blow. Your 6 degrees and nothing blooming might be a compensating tradeoff. Posted by: Count de Monet at March 09, 2011 05:56 AM (XBM1t) 661
Hey Count, the short growing season here does cut down on the lawn mower wear and tear but I'm getting a little sick of the 6 degree shit...shouldn't be much longer. going up to 40 for a couple days then 30's and teens. Springs on the way just slow getting here...

Hey Vic: What's up with your new governor? Is she really gonna sign that new ticketing scheme ($150 for less than 10 mph over the limit and no points) into law? Posted by: Ed Anger at March 09, 2011 06:14 AM (7+pP9) 664
Okay, I'm not reading about over 667 comments to see if it's been said already but...
A degree does not = intelligence. I know people with masters who couldn't tie their own shoes without written directions. With pictures. For many, a degree equates with time on their hands and money to blow. Posted by: whatever at March 09, 2011 06:22 AM (piMMO) Posted by: Ed Anger at March 09, 2011 06:22 AM (7+pP9) 666

Vic might as well buy one of them volts or other silly electric car thingies if you got to drive the limit...Do they have camera enforcement? That's what lots of cities are relying on for income now. Just snap them and bill them.. Posted by: beanervt at March 09, 2011 06:22 AM (CFOvJ) 667

Governor??? LOL, that law was proposed by a Dem and it is as stupid as it can get. First off most of the local towns already do this and they don't limit themselves to less than 10 mph over the limit. Second off, the insurance company doesn't really give a shit about < 10 mph over the limit unless you have a LOT of them. The last time I got stopped for speeding I was talking to wifey on the way back from a neighboring town and not paying too much attention. Crossed into a 35 zone doing 50 and there was a city cop hiding in the bushes. Went down to the magistrate's office and paid a $175 fine and got it plea'd down to a 2 point violation. Its a money making racket. I seriously doubt that this bill will even make it out of committee to the floor, much less get passed. Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2011 06:23 AM (M9Ie6) 668

Dick Morris on Fox right now talking about a new law/regulation Obama wants the FCC to push. Where some FCC board is established to determine local radio "content" and fines if they do not meet "fairness" standards.
The fines would then be used to fund NPR. IOW bring back the FDR doctrine to shutdown opponents and push your own propaganda. Never mind that congress has banned the "fairness" doctrine and the courts have struck it down as well. Obama doesn't give a shit about free speech. Count's news of the day: After a brief winter hiatus, my 22 year old Toro mower started up on the first pull, making me very happy. Drain the gas in December, clean the air filter in March and fill with freshgas.
Evey lawnmower service tech that has tuned it upin the past decade took pains to tell me they ain't making 'em likethat anymore and to take very good care of it. Posted by: Count de Monet at March 09, 2011 06:28 AM (XBM1t) 672

Yep it only means you passed those professors requirements, which is where the problem lies. it's not the students but the quality of what's being taught by the professors/teachers..the really smart ones do lack the common sense gene, it must leave to make room for the smarts. The enviro-weanies bitch and moan about landfills and this is why there are so many. Everybody always has to one-up their neighbor or themselves, trying to keep up with the Jones'. Nobody seems to want a product that will last 20 years anymore. Everyone always want the latest and greatest gadgets and the old one just ends up being a thrown away. Because of this, they now only manufacture throw aways. Of course, there are a few people out there who enjoy quaity, and thats's why my best-friend's father scours the country for old tractors and rebuilds them. He makes some nice bank in doing so. Stewart Varney on just now talking about IL proposing yet another tax increase. This after they pushed through another huge tax increase. This one on 401K funds that are withdrawn.
Yet they wonder why they are one of the few States on that chart above where unemployment actually increased. Socialist Dems are not just evil, they are stupid as well. Posted by: Vic at March 09, 2011 06:37 AM (M9Ie6) 676
Here's a story so sad it's guaranteed to make you cry: Lenny Dykstra: "They Destroyed My Marriage" After losing his home and his wife, former Phillies All-Star says his dark days are done. Lenny Dykstra blames "greedy banks" for wrecking his life. "They destroyed a 23-year marriage," he told NBC Philadelphia's John Clark in a long, profanity and insult-laced interview during his latest trip to Philadelphia. "We didn't just get divorced all of a sudden. Look at the timing of it. When you're paying $182,000 a month, every 30 days, $182,000, I don't care who you are," Dykstra said. The former Phillies All-Star claims he was set up to fail after defaulting on his payments for the $18.5-million estate he bought from hockey great Wayne Gretzky in 2007. "They put me in a loan they knew I couldn’t afford. They tricked me," Dykstra said. "It’s called equity stripping, predatory lending at it’s finest." You should also put in a additive or put a fuel shut off inline to run the carb out of fuel. This new bioshitfuel eats the crap out of the little carb parts.. I have a 95 toro also got a couple 67's (sears suburban) built like real tractors. Posted by: beanervt at March 09, 2011 06:41 AM (OhukG) 678

I know it's early for this kind of language, but boo-fucking-hoo. I know people who would have been facing foreclosure because of real circumstances in their lives; death, illness, etc... but have had a damned difficult time in getting coopoeration from the banks because of fuckers like him. Everybody rides the gravy train and then those who truly need help get lost in the crowd. Screw him. Posted by: Florida, Where crazy people come to breed! at March 09, 2011 06:43 AM (piMMO) 679

Exactly. My first string trimmer (electric)was a $9 Blue Light special at Kmart by Black Decker. Lasted 12 years. Each replacement has cost about 4X as much and lasts 3 - 4 years before falling apart or motor crapping out. No profit in $9 lasting 12 years. Much profit in purposely crap built. And much landfill material. Posted by: Count de Monet at March 09, 2011 06:53 AM (XBM1t) 682
