Teh Suckitude: Part Deux

Yep this ONT is gonna suck too.

So tonight's theme is a valuable life lesson for all the kids and young-ish morons.

Things Are Getting Worse or Better (Depending on Where You Are)
Believe it or not unemployment has gotten better in TN, MI, and MN. But VA and ND and SD are the places to be.

China Getting Pushy in the Pacific
So they're encroaching on Philippines waters and attempting to ram their boats. Meanwhile they're also intruding into Vietnamese and Japanese waters. Why? Well mostly for establishing rights to undersea resources. And because they can.

Also North Korea is now jamming GPS signals. Good times, good times.

Why Are Climate Monitoring Satellites Suddenly Failing?

The World's Youngest Grandmother
At age 23.

Mum-of-two Rifca Stanescu was 12 when she had her first child Maria.

She urged the girl not to follow her example - but Maria gave birth to son Ion while only 11.

Rifca had married jewellery seller Ionel Stanescu when she was 11 and he was 13.

They eloped because Rifca feared her father wanted her to marry another village lad in Investi, Romania.

I don't know how things work in Romania but based on her picture they must age in dog years there.

Sorry about your grandmother. The English language is inadequate at times.

Posted by: Circa (Insert Year Here) at March 08, 2011 09:52 PM (7utQ2)

32 Wow, not all Scandis are completely useless:

If you think James Franco is an overachiever, you clearly know nothing
about action star Dolph Lundgren. Best known for playing brutal Russian
boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, Lundgren's been in more than 40 action films, including 2010's The Expendables.
However, before all that, Lundgren was a hardcore scientist. He has a
genius-level IQ of 160, speaks seven languages, earned a bachelor's
degree from Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology and a master's degree
in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney. Lundgren also
earned a Fulbright to study at MIT, but, bitten by the acting bug, he
left for Hollywood after just two weeks in the program.

Now there's a resume worthy of a "bunk" comment from both men and women.

I hope you're right about that. It just seems like the revolutionaries are having their way with anyone who's even mildly cooperative/deferential with/afraid of us. It's like the DS9 episodes involving the Mirror universe-we influenced our allies just enough to make them too weak to survive in that part of the world.

ULU is one of the cool dump-your-U Scrabble words. The best AK Scrabble word is UMIAQ. I recall squealing like a small girl when we saw one in the Alaskan Sealife Center (did I get the name right? The Exxon Valdez settlement aquarium, lol) in Seward.

Hey, you are never too old to learn! For example, I learned that I shouldn't take too hot or too cold showers because it isn't good to shock my body, and that if I just continue to put make-up on during my period I'll be fresh and sunny despite the inconvenience. Plus having a period apparently has no effect on riding a bike with no hands! Winning!

Born in Anchorage, grew up there and in Kenai, still have family in Anchorage, Kenai and Fairbanks. With a little luck and a nice IRS refund we will be up there for three weeks or so this summer. My dad (81 years old) runs the Mt. Marathon race in Seward on the 4th of July, so we are hoping to be there for that. He gets his own age group so he always wins, but then we all have to get of his lawn. Seward is a lot of fun, especially on the 4th. If you want to be in the parade, you just jump in there and march. Great fireworks and the sound echos off the mountains. Scares hell out of the dogs all over town. When were you up there?Oh, and you can order ulus from the Alaska Ulu Factory. I use a very plain one with a stainless blade but there are some very fancy ones. They traditionally have a one-sided bevel but some have two-bevel edges so they are easier to keep sharp. They also make a really nice birch bowl for chopping, which comes in handy and keeps the stuff from ending up all over the kitchen.

186 Seward is a lot of fun, especially on the 4th.

We were in Skagway on the 4th (2005). I got a big kick out of watching the locals having their town celebration--kids games and stuff--and completely ignoring the tourists. Sadly, the boat left before the fireworks.

We stopped at five or six different towns on the cruise, just a taste...I'd like to go again but spend two weeks in one area and really get to know it.

187 tcn, my sister and brother-in-law have lived all over Alaska, including many villages. So, Seward doesn't seem all that remote to them. My sister still lives in Juneau because she works for the state. My brother in law likes it in Seward so far, the people are very friendly and welcoming. Of course that could have something to do with him being a Priest...

The funny thing is, I haven't lived there since 1991, but after one day it's like I never left. My husband is from WI, and the first time I took him up there, after about three days he said it was like the Lower 48 just didn't exist. I think it dawned on him one evening when he was flipping channels and I told him the baseball games were already over. That, and seeing High School football stories on the front page of the local paper. I sometimes forget that it is a different world.Imagine me growing up there thinking that WI was exotic. Tee hee.

Not so much that--just that in Seward, you are either nice or nobody will talk to you. Small town stuff. Seward is pleasant, Juneau not so much. My father still says Juneau is a rathole, and I don't think he's been there in 30 years. When I lived there, the exciting day in Juneau was when the ferry docked and the new shipment of cocaine hit town. Ick. I think things may have calmed down some since then. Also, you can drive somewhere from Seward. Juneau, not so much.

192 Tough time for me. My mom has been having these...swollen lymph nodes in her neck. She also was having rashes. She thinks she has Lupis, but...they're going to test her to make sure it isn't some form of cancer first. You have to make sure.

It's scary for me, because I lost my dad a few years ago. I'm only 25, if something happens to her...I don't know, I get paranoid. I don't have a lot of friends, family is everything to me. And yet...my grandmother is senile, my dad is gone and my mom is worrying me. All I have left are her and my brother.

She's probably fine, I'm just paranoid. I try to think positive, but life has never been all that positive for me. I don't want to sound like a loser libtard, but I've had a very ...weird life. Just got to keep the faith.

Thanks. "Another way to go", as in "things will turn around?" . I'm just in a down mood and I mostly lurk here to read the comments here. I think I saw someone at NRO link here once, and I loved the place instantly.

A few years back, I kind of lost everything and it's been a tough climb back. Especially with the terrible economy. I'm barely surviving on 30k a month at most and ..most people my age are incredibly shallow and obsessed. Especially when my pathetic bitch of an ex-fiance makes all my friends believe I cheated on her. And they believe her instead of me...so fuck them, I'll get new friends. And none of them liked when I became more religious and conservative anyway. It was just a matter of time. So, no friends. Then my family too? Come on, man. I pray constantly that I don't lose that too.

It'll turn out alright, I just needed to vent. I don't want to be a whiner, many people have it worse than me. I think I need to move, start over fresh once I've saved money for college. I planned to go to a broadcasting school in Chicago nearby, but I probably could use new surroundings. And...I could use less money taken out of my checks. heh

But yeah, I had to see him barely walk and ...I don't know, I can't take that again. I lost him on Christmas Eve 2005, but a lot of bad memories are coming back now for some reason. I agree, I'd go out of my way to get on that jury and nullify.

IANAL - but can the judge set aside a not guilty for and impose guilty? For some reason, I think it can go the other way - overturn guilty and impose Not guilty. But I thought that if a jury said not guilty - that was it (unless the feds get involved in something like a civil rights thingie)

234 The biggest sticking point for the union isn't collective bargaining ..

The biggest sticking point is that if the state doesn't do the union's job of collecting dues through paycheck deductions, then the union has to do the collection themselves, and they send suspension notices to the employer, who notifies the employee if the dues are not paid up to date.

They want to collect their cash without pissing off their members.

259 Do any of you guys actually have close friends that are socialists? Not liberals, socialists. I have a Che-fan as a close friend. He's one of the only people was has been loyal to me, how could I let politics destroy that? But man, there's got to be a limit. Everytime we talk, I have to hold back from yelling at him for idol worshiping a murderer. How do you overlook that?
Posted by: Crazee at March 08, 2011 11:39 PM (xsoRi)
I assume you've gone over the *real* life and times of Ernest Guevara?More than once? Some of my few successes in that area have depended on informing the brainwashed (which doesn't solve the problem) on ONE point, and then letting them confront their socialist peers (which is what opens the eyes). Were I to do that in your position I would start with the testimony of the families of Che's victims, then move on to the details.
Most "converts" I know simply experienced the rough hand of government after trying to start a business. Not all see the light.I have known some murderously sick leftists, but not as close friends. I get that loyalty transcends ideology, sometimes. And welcome!

Well, from what I've seen of the Educated Class that David Brooks jerks himself off to, their intellect is way overrated, they owe their standing to great networking

384 Do any of you guys actually have close friends that are socialists?
I don't even know anyone who isn't. I'm not sure I ever have. Even my parents were commies. Professionally.
The way I avoid beef about it is by approaching whatever stupid political noise-of-the-day people inject into a conversation as ephemeral b.s. that illustrates a broad-enough-to-sound-maybe-leftist principle. "If fuckin' _____ is President, I'm moving to the Netherlands." "It doesn't matter who the president is. Did _______ do anything you wanted him to? No. And _______ didn't do what his people wanted. The machine runs how it runs." Et cetera. Whatever goes vague quickest.
Everyday lefties can't quickly abstract from events or personalities (Palin!), because they don't believe or even understand the intellectual shit they say they believe—they're just bigots with stock routines—and the conversations die (usually with them nodding) within a couple short exchanges.
After that happens once or twice, they'll avoid the situation. I don't want to talk about that stuff either, because I don't want to have to punch everybody, so it works out. I've only had to resort to "Dude, I don't care," with people who got suspicious because I won't name names about five times. They were all commies. Professionally.
Che lovers are just serial-killer fans. They're fucked up geeks. Talk to them like they are—but deviously. No one can handle the truth. You can subtly embarrass them out of their insanity, sometimes, by, for example, making it sound gay. (I mean actual man-on-man gay. Like, they're using Che's gun/penis to fantasy-penetrate other dudes.)
If that doesn't work, they're probably insane. Just walk away.

I'm actually quite happy about the two House pieces of legislation; the Senate is another matter entirely.
H.R. 830: FHA Refinance Program Termination Act - "Rescinds and permanently cancels all unexpended funding remaining available and allocated for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Refinancing Program of the Making Home Affordable initiative of the Secretary of the Treasury, and terminates the program."
H.R. 836: Emergency Mortgage Relief Termination Act - "The measure would end[HUD's] Emergency Homeowners' Relief Program, an initiative that was created in 1975 but had remained unfinanced until the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act reauthorized it last summer."

But it hits me, it seems like people would take it as an opportunity to just really go the full nine yards in terms of stupidity. It's a lot higher here than the humidity in The Valley, which is higher than the rest of L.A.

But it's not nearly as high as it is in the Miami area. Brutal there, you feel like you could actually swim in the air, and showering is almost pointless since you're a sweaty mess again in 30 seconds.

However, I've heard from Houstonians and Louisianans that they go to Miami to feel dry again

496 Isn't it crazy that conservatives are too sensitive when their views are slandered and distorted? Yet, when a leftist gets mocked...they go fucking batshit! It's hilarious.

I used to avoid conflict, but nowadays I'm just snarky about it. Actually, libs are libs. If they like the policies, I get it. I hate when people vote instinctively democrat every fucking election cycle, and then complain about things. I had a family member who actually was okay with high taxes, but constantly complained about affirmative action, not fighting the war on terror, all kinds of PC nonsense. Kind of a sane liberal. But she votes Dem everytime, without a doubt. It kills me.

@ Merovign : Yeah, I get what you're saying about making excuses. But honestly, I hate meeting people. I despise it. I don't go to clubs or bars. I always meet people through school or work. And besides, if I want to date...I need to be more attractive. No girl wants a guy barely making it. Well, unless I was super suave. Which I'm not. That said, I do occasionally hang with people from work. But our relationship is shallow, nothing substantive.

Oh, and as far as my friend....I got him on the anti-tax bandwagon! Well, kind of. It's hard convincing a college student that wasted four years learning...philosophy, music and debate? Ugh.

To be slightly serious with a handful of late night morons, there is only so much of life one is willing to devote to politics, i.e., who gets to force whom to do what. After a certain point, there are better returns for one's time than pushing for politically broad changes. So you adjust accordingly. If it's clear that even your so-called political allies are unable or unwilling to redress grievances, you put more of your time into taking what you can for yourself.

It was ever so. I recall Alan Watts, a British drunk and lecher from the sixties who popularized Zen half a century ago, saying something very legitimate. He said that when society is in order and on the middle way, the wise man turns outward to others, to society. However when society is in disarray and has lost the middle ground, the wise man turns inward and looks after himself.

We're headed into years when it will likely be better for you and your family to think first of yourselves and society last.

My rule of thumb has always been that I will never vote for a tax increase that does not directly impact me personally.

For that reason I have voted against every property tax that has ever found its way onto my ballot, no matter how sensible it may have seemed. 'Cause I rent.

The overwhelming chances are that I would have voted against them anyway, but as it is I just laugh and check "AGAINST". PFFT. LOSING.

I will not vote to raise somebody ELSE'S taxes. We'd be a better country if everyone held to such an ethic.

Turnout is low in off years with ballot measures, except for the unions who would drag a burn victim out of ICU to vote.

Ahnuld put forth a bunch of Props in 2005 that would have slowed down the runaway spending and union ripoffs, but tv and radio ads by the CTA and other unions made sure they went down big time (I remember the radio ads by CTA head Barbara Kerr, who had a lower voice than Barry White)

Ahnuld completely surrendered after that and joined the other side

This has always been my one point of sympathy with Teh Governator.

In a state like CA, in which so much of public policy is determined by ballot props, a governor who was elected on a reform platform required the ongoing support of the PEOPLE to advance anything substantive.

In 2005, the people shot down every single one of his ballot props; initiatives that could really have made a difference.

CSM-101 should have continued fighting anyway, but if the voters of CA wouldn't back him when he tried to move on what they elected him to do, how much could one really blame him for saying "fuck it"?

Did they tell you the oil tax was for the Fast Choo-Choo from SF to Anaheim, and although it would make gas cost even more, you'd "save" with the money for the Green Trains?

I've never been social, though. And when I did go out, it all fucked me over worse than Obama did. Broken people attract btoken people. You can never find meaningful relationships if you aren't ready for them. Thing is, I probably am more mature and responsible than most guys my age. I'm just a coward, basically. It's kind of weird that I want a career in broadcast media, and yet I'm a complete buffoon talking to people face to face.

@Nanny: Yeah, I know! My brother goes dancing reguarly. He's...6'0 285 ibs. BIG guy. He dances with girls all the time. It doesn't go anywhere, but still.

@Rum: Hah! It's true, though. I remember the chick I mentioned earlier used to try to get me out to places. I was content with the people I already knew. It's cool, though. I just feel awkward around new people, especially in big gatherings. I don't know anyone, and they're all talking to each other. I CAN occasionally be charming one on one...occasionally. In a group? I become either a recluse or a clown.

On the plus side(?), I'm apparently attractive to girls that hate their father. That's actually not a good thing.

You can blame him because he's a politician (always worthy of blame), and ran on the whole "I'm an outsider, I'm different" platform, PLUS a fiscally conservative platform. Frankly, the only poll that matters is the one where people actually vote. He won on the basis that "I'm not spending like Gray Davis did." If he couldn't get support for his promised fiscal temperance, he should have suffered the consequences instead of caving in. At any rate he didn't have to go whole watermelon and leap far left with the hydrogen fuel-global warming bullshit.

Just an arrogant opinion over here.

In the end, the people of CA have to decide they've had enough.

All were .308 Winchesters. All diffrent manufactures, mostly bolt guns, but 1 high end semi-auto AR10 type.
The .308 at 880 yards-half mile, is not to bad. There are rifles that shoot flatter at 880, but all in all, a .308 is tough to beat inside 880

605 California had so much going for it. Once upon a time it even had a Republican party with a pulse. Now it's following NY and MI, two other states that had so much and committed suicide

Now, this falls under the "society is a large ship" analogy. While we may agree with the assessment in principle, you visit NY or CA and you'll find lots of expensive stores and restaurants full of people, lots of jobs, lots of traffic, lots of luxury. It is difficult to claim these states have committed suicide when they are clearly so flush with wealth...

Which in turn brings up the question "What about the poor parts?" Are there really more poor people and places in CA than in Mississippi? Arkansas? I don't know how to answer that. However, one could visit Dubai and marvel at the wealth, see only glamour and glitter. Yet an adversarial BBC or CNN might show you documentaries detailing the poverty beyond the skyscrapers and shopping malls.

You notice there are no documentaries detailing the poverty and squalor Victor Davis Hanson describes in the CA Central Valley.

What is my point? Perhaps that it will take a very drastic decline in most people's standards of living before anyone in ultramarine places like NY or CA admit there is a problem.

these states have committed suicide when they are clearly so flush with
wealth...

A large ship or a large economy can go on for a long time on momentum alone, long after the means of propulsion have gone. Much like a charging rhino, a bullet in the brain will kill it, but with so much momentum it won't immediately drop.

You can see fine restaurants and expensive shops in the Harbor District of Baltimore, and if you only saw that area you'd think it was a boom town. Go to the west end of Baltimore and you'd think it was hit by a nuclear bomb. Even Detroit has pockets of prosperity in it. We both know of areas of Los Angeles that look almost as bad as the 1000 Shops area of Tijuana, particularly Terminal Island

614 Perhaps that it will take a very drastic decline in most people's
standards of living before anyone in ultramarine places like NY or CA
admit there is a problem.

The federal gov't is borrowing 40% of every dollar it spends. You have 44+ million people on food stamps. The standard of living you reference is a mirage; more and more people are sensing this.

They argue in DC about cutting spending 2%. Something has to give. Imagine what the economy would be like if the feds and the states lived completely within their means.

At least for a while, it would be verrry verrry bad.

Precisely. Yet so few see CA in that light. Consider, can you get a job as easily in Bowling Green or San Antonio as you can in LA? What kind of jobs? I don't know. Perhaps this is part of the large ship analogy. It may take a long time before people at large say "Don't go to California, the jobs there don't pay enough and you'll live in a broom closet."

That is what puzzles me. What can't continue, won't. Nevertheless we see in places like CA the impractical continue to practice. It recalls Japan. They have a very high standard of living yet their equities market has been in a twenty year slump along with deflation periodically. It's just weird.

What is amazing to me is that they scream for more and more regulation, including licenses for just about everything....except voting.

And these are not licenses although that in itself would be a good idea. make people pass a test to vote that proves they know not to use toilet paper to clean up holes in the ground.

Governor??? LOL, that law was proposed by a Dem and it is as stupid as it can get. First off most of the local towns already do this and they don't limit themselves to less than 10 mph over the limit. Second off, the insurance company doesn't really give a shit about < 10 mph over the limit unless you have a LOT of them.

The last time I got stopped for speeding I was talking to wifey on the way back from a neighboring town and not paying too much attention. Crossed into a 35 zone doing 50 and there was a city cop hiding in the bushes. Went down to the magistrate's office and paid a $175 fine and got it plea'd down to a 2 point violation.

Its a money making racket. I seriously doubt that this bill will even make it out of committee to the floor, much less get passed.

Nobody seems to want a product that will last 20 years anymore. Everyone always want the latest and greatest gadgets and the old one just ends up being a thrown away. Here's a story so sad it's guaranteed to make you cry:

Lenny Dykstra: "They Destroyed My Marriage"

After losing his home and his wife, former Phillies All-Star says his dark days are done.

Lenny Dykstra blames "greedy banks" for wrecking his life.

"They destroyed a 23-year marriage," he told NBC Philadelphia's John Clark in a long, profanity and insult-laced interview during his latest trip to Philadelphia.

"We didn't just get divorced all of a sudden. Look at the timing of it. When you're paying $182,000 a month, every 30 days, $182,000, I don't care who you are," Dykstra said.

The former Phillies All-Star claims he was set up to fail after defaulting on his payments for the $18.5-million estate he bought from hockey great Wayne Gretzky in 2007.

"They put me in a loan they knew I couldn’t afford. They tricked me," Dykstra said. "It’s called equity stripping, predatory lending at it’s finest."

Exactly. My first string trimmer (electric)was a $9 Blue Light special at Kmart by Black Decker. Lasted 12 years. Each replacement has cost about 4X as much and lasts 3 - 4 years before falling apart or motor crapping out.
No profit in $9 lasting 12 years. Much profit in purposely crap built. And much landfill material.
