By repealing those coverage provisions of PPACA and the Reconciliation Act, over the 2012-2021 period H.R. 2 would yield gross savings of $1,390 billion and net savings (after accounting for the offsets just mentioned) of $1,042 billion.A trillion here, a trillion there, pretty soon it's real money. Philip Klein has more in his Twitter feed, scroll around for more include the tax hikes that wouldn't happen if it's repealed Comments1

Don't be so hasty. We have to consider this idea, run it through our committees, and then modify it to our needs. After all, votes aren't free.

It would have to, wouldn't it? Doesn't the CBO have to consider the whole bill + the assumptions passed to it by Congress? Any word on the ObamaCare cases moving up to the Supremes? I know they have to go through the circuits, first, but has any of that stuff moved? Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) at February 18, 2011 06:02 PM (8y9MW) 6

You know what's impressive? Yesterday, this was impressive.
In a 217-209 vote, the House cut $20.6 million in NEA funding. The amendment to the FY 2011 spending bill, from Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), would leave NEA funding at about $125 million, not the $145 million in the original House bill. An entire 21 million. Wow. They still get 125 million. Leadership. Top men. I'm definitely not a Ron Paul guy. I didn't like him in 2008, and I still think he's somewhat of a kook.
But, in all seriousness - is there any other Republican candidate who will propose ANY significant reductions to the size of the federal government? Hell, are there any candidates who are even willing to roll back something as brazenly stupid and anti-conservative as No Child Left Behind? I'm starting to think I might be voting for Paul simply because I'd rather vote for a limited government kook than another GOP establishment statist. CUT EVERY SINGLE BUDGET FROM EVERY SINGLE AGENCY BY 10%. That should be the starting point. Just the start. Then you cut everything from there. No Heather, take it further.
The NEA wants to keep chugging? Instead of the freebies it has tossed out in the last 20 years- all the artists it propped up- their work still in federal museum posession now goes on the auction bloc, whether the artist wants it to or not. It turns a profit (which it could), the money goes directly into paying down the debt, or it gets shut down. Every excess agency like this operates on that or closes shop. We actually tried to turn NEA into a revenue-positive agency back in the 1980s- the Democratic Congress said it "flew in the face of tradition". Crucifixes in pee of course being the face of that tradition. Posted by: CAC at February 18, 2011 08:00 PM (Gr1V1) 48

This is why I've been stressing that the first, and most important, "entitlement" to cut is Medicaid and the only way to cut Medicaid is to repeal ObamaCare.
This must be the GOP's main thrust. It is impossible to have any "entitlement" cuts be serious without getting rid of ObamaCare and stopping the insane expansion of federal AND state Medicaid - which will kill us, no matter what other cuts are made.
