Coats are Required on Tonights ONT:

Pants and underwear? Not so much.

I swear that at one point in the song it sounds like the guys doing the background rhythm part are singing ninja ninja ninja ninja

A buffet of Lame awaits you below the fold. But then, you already knew that.

P-Diddys Live Party Jam:

Apparently he livestreams them so you commoners can join in the fun. As with all live broadcasts, sometimes there are glitches. At least she was in quite possibly the best location a person can be when they catch on fire. (H/T Dori Monson)

Signs, Signs, Everywhere a Sign:

A series of somewhat amusing signs in the always-annoying click-through format. But its not as if you had any more pressing matters to take care of tonight, did you?

Artist's depiction of a sign

TRON Jeremy:

Thanks to Tmi3rd. I suppose.

My Favorite Editorial Cartoon of All Time:

A classic 1997 piece from McNelly at the Chicago Tribune, it's held a place of honor on my fridge for all these years.

Shipoopi!

For those of us unfortunate enough to live in the Seattle area (and they are legion here in the Sub-Moronocracy) our moments of happiness are few and far between. One of the few things that keep us from driving into bridge abutments at 90 mph are the Vern Fonk Insurance commercials. Such as this one:

Sadly, Vern himself passed on a few years ago but his message must be passed on to a wider audience, which I do here tonight.

Now DANCE!!!

Oh, and check out the "alternative" version of Shipoopi.

Bet you didn't see that intro. coming did you?

The 30 Most Important Cats Of 2010:

Or as the lead-in to the piece states: I know what you're saying. Cats, you're saying. What have they done for me lately? Well, this is what they've done for you lately, you ungrateful bastard.

Strong words indeed. Thanks to Maet, who's always thinking of you, even on his nights off. Because he has no life. Just like the rest of us.

Tonights Semi-Forgotten 80s Hit That One Upon a Time Got Heavy Rotation on MTV Back When the M Part Actually Meant Something:

Mr. Kihn was truly a visionary. A pioneer in the ever-growing field of zombie studies and other matters relating to the Undead. And he plays a mean piece of broken pew I might add.

10 Vern Fonk is the man. Friend of mine was Fonks ad agent, he told me the stories about going to the Neptune Theater and previewing the commercials. It was standing room only. Ad guy does Money-Tree and did ads for our Car Dealership. Won a regional CLIO for an April Fools day ad we did.

The company sold either right before or after his death, for around 70m. Very simple concept, DUI Insurance, made great money. I don't think Fonk was in the commercial.

40 I have a tech question for the embedded computer geeks here.
There seems to be a new, annoying, and particularly virulent strain of pop-up ads on the web these days. An example is, if you went to Drudge today, there's a pop-up ad for the movie "The Town" which even includes a trailer. All these ads have a near microscopic 'x' in one corner you must click to close the add. I see them on damn near every website I visit.
What browser do I need or software add-on do I need to defeat these ads? I despise pop-up ads with the burning white hot intensity of a thousand suns.
Many thanks.

Every Smelt is sacred,
Every Smelt is great,
If a Smelt is wasted,
Gaia gets quite irate

Every Smelt is wanted,
Every Smelt is good,
Every Smelt is needed,
In your neighborhood!

Let the Repugs waste theirs,
Over mountain, hill and plain,
Gaia shall strike them down for
Every Smelt that's killed in vain

Every Smelt is sacred,
Every Smelt is great,
If a Smelt is wasted,
Gaia gets quite irate

Every Smelt is wanted,
Every Smelt is good,
Every Smelt is needed,
In your neighborhood!

I hated that POS movie.

I'll see your Joan Collins and (sorry!) raise you a Clive Cussler.

Raise the Titanic sucked a lot less than the movie, and it was a perfectly awful book - I even knew that in high school, when I read it. Case in point - they raise the wreck and Dirk Pitt has sex in one of the staterooms. Just threw a couple blankets on the bed.

Even then, I knew this was not a practicable scenario.

283 OK, I guess this is what we're up against.
I'm looking at this link called "Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" that my nephew posted, from the Boston Globe's site ("say no more", right?). There's all kinds of cool Santa photos from around the world. Very nice. But there's some anomolies.
You get down to photo #6, and it's a very colorful scene with a cathedral on Red Square, with a huge Christmas tree out from. Very nice. At least on the left half of the photo. They made sure to fit ina rather stark-looking Kremlin, complete with the commie red star up top, which fills up most of the right half of the picture. Hey - nothing says Christmas like the Red Star, right?
You get down to #11, and it's a very nice close-up of Obama one of his daughters. You would scacely know it had anything to do with Christmas, however, unless you read the caption. I guess they didn't want their hero to have to share the spotlight with the National Christmas Tree.
At least #22 was kind of funny. A bunch of people dressed in Santa suits on Tiananmen Square in China. The commies would have none of that, and broke it up.
#25 was unbelieveable: a statue of Lenin next to a Christmas tree. F-ing Lenin!!Hey, nothing says Christmas like the statue of a guy who outlawed religion, and oppressed those who resisted, right!?!
#26 seemed a bit out of place - a living room all decked out for Christmas on fire. It was a demo for fire safety awareness, but doesn't quite seem in synch with the spirit of things.
Oh, yeah - what we're up against. I point out the Lenin thing to the wife, and ask her what somebody could possibly have been thinking, to even put Lenin and Christmas in the same sentence.
She said she thought I was reading too much into it.

The section is called "Beginning to look a lot like Christmas", not "Shadows of the past". Ol' Vlad is in the background, though, so there is that.
Over all, I just had to wonder why 10% of these Christmaspictures from around the world had communist symbols in them.

330 Another city about to bite the dust financially:

Receiver to city: Financial ruin near

CENTRAL
FALLS The citys financial problems are so profound that the
only way to solve them is through a merger with Pawtucket or a
regionalization of city services, the state-appointed receiver said in a
report Thursday to the Carcieri administration.
Central Falls, in my judgment, cannot remain a stand-alone
community as it presently is, unless the state wants to subsidize
this into the future, said retired Superior Court judge Mark A.
Pfeiffer, the man appointed by the state Department of
Administration in July to run the city, with elected government
officials in advisory roles, after those officials had earlier
declared the city insolvent.

Posted by: Kratos (Ghost of Sparta) at December 19, 2010 02:26 AM (c0A3e)

331 The major problem is the city, with an annual operating budget of about $16 million, is facing about $32 million in promised after-retirement health-insurance costs in addition to the $48 million in pension obligations.
Thats $80 million for a city that has 19,000 citizens, approximately, he said. Thats a huge problem.

349 Good Morning Morons

Not much out there on the news this morning. I do take note of the typical double standard and gnashing of teeth by the liberal press in defeat of the Nightmare Amnesty Act.

Why is it that when some liberal POS passes with 1 RINO vote it is "bipartisan" but if the same liberal POS fails with 3 RINOs voting for it and 5 Dems against it, it was Republicans who stonewalled and blocked the "wonderful bill" that everyone so needed.

Note who voted for this POS bill designed to give the commie another instant new voting block and keep them coming forever.

Sens. Richard Lugar (RINO-Ind.), Lisa Murkowski (?-Alaska) and Bob Bennett (RINO-Utah).

We got rid of RINO Bennett and almost got rid of MooKow who stole her way back in. We need to get rid of Lugar.

And think about this folks; without those 5 Dems crossing over and voting against this POS we would now have this bill being signed into law.

That is how damn close it came. That despite 70% of the public being against it.

358 I saw that, when he was on the floor of the Senate yesterday, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin's rationale for trying to coax Republicans to vote for the "Dream Act" was to say, and I paraphrase him, that since President Obama (with the consent of Democrats in Congress) was nice enough to send troops and financial aid down to Arizona and the border last year without waiting for legislation that would authorize it, Republicans should repay Obama's benevolence by at least having the decency to vote for the "Dream Act". What is wrong with that (sleazy) rationale? Those Democrats ..., they are real pieces of work.
BTW, I suspect that Sarah Palin's bitchy, vicious, vindictiveand senseless attempt to sabotage Lisa Murkowski's campaign had something to do with Lisa Murkowskispitefully voting with the Democrats on yesterday's legislation. But I could be wrong.

359 Just as many of us have always said, we (the U.S.) backed the wrong side in Kosovo. Clinton's and the Dems urge to support the muzzies to control of everything.

Clinton took us into that war despite the fact that Congress voted down his authorization. Remember how the Dems wanted to impeach Reagan for just sending support? Remember how the Dems blasted Bush's evil war in Iraq despite the fact that he had approval from congress.

Well the truth is out now and there should be some really embarrassed assholes in government and their name is Clinton. The fact is they new the muzzies were the ones who started the killing and were involved in every criminal interprise known to man, including slavery.

In the case of the DREAM act, even if a minority were against it, it should have been opposed. The stream across the border is an an uncoordinated, and maybe even unconscious, invasion of the US. 367 What should make everybody uneasy is that Bill Richardson is now in Pyongyang.
Every time that chronic fuck-up has been an envoy to North Korea, he has sought to appease the North Koreans for their outrageous misbehavior.
He's even more incompetent than Hillary Clinton is, not just as an envoy, but as a governor and as a Congressman and as a campaign managerand with every other task that he has ever undertaken, and yet, amazingly, the Democrats keep giving that damned fool more responsibilities, which he consistently mishandles to the detriment of this country. Can't wait to see how he rewards the North Koreans for their misbehavior this time.

400 but on this day in history, Clinton was impeached

Posted by: chemjeff at December 19, 2010 08:00 AM (PaSAU)

401 150 years ago, to recall, so many of our War between the States veterans were still alive, rubbing shoulders at survivor reunions, when Wilson declared The Constitution dead and irrelevant before launching America into his foreign War to End All Wars abroad.

There was good reason for America's loathing to follow Wilson into authoritarianism, and through the experience of WWI disillusionment here being American citizens shocked by the growing Federal abuses of governance.

To the victors, the spoils to damn the Constitution.

/just observing effects of time.

Posted by: maverick muse at December 19, 2010 08:06 AM (H+LJc)

402 chemjeff,

impeach

another depletion of "meaning" -- Clinton had no fear. Obama couldn't care less about impeachment; it along with the Constitution is irrelevant and meaningless. He takes the authoritarian power "because I could" abuse (Clinton).

/As bad as Nixon was, he had the old school class to step aside, twice, rather than take the world down with him. Pathetically, Nixon's own legacy favoring China above all else was Pandora's Box to bring the world down to that lowest common denominator. Fate.

404 Joe Lieberman's determination to repeal DADT showed once again that he is a liberal's liberal and a fraud. That sly, old fox has given some people the misconception that he is a moderate with a slight leaning to the right. But he is deceitful and devious. He is now and he has always been a member of the far left, just more polished than Michael Moore and George Soros are.
His slick defense of Bill Clinton prior to the hearings to impeach Clinton showed that he fits the stereotype of the most unscrupulous and the sleaziest of unscrupulous and sleazy, unprincipledattornies, also. That guy is as immoral and as slimy asany other liberal is, and he is a real political hack. He just masks it better than most. But he is just as despicableas John Kerry and Barney Frank are. There isn't any difference between them.(And you can now add Scott Brown's name in with those other three scumbags.)

Posted by: Brian at December 19, 2010 08:13 AM (sYrWB)

405 So what's new about constitutional conservatives having their work cut out for them given Washingtonians at large? Neither our Revolutionary nor our Civil Wars were short but sweet. Grin and bear the Great Cause for the duration. That's life.

At least "Not I" is yet an honest response from Tea Party won seats
when the blame game hits the fan. Question being, Michele Bachmann as
the Little Red Hen needs constitutional conservatives in the Tea Party
Caucus, and will the new GOP winners help her unite constitutional
conservatives in Congress, or as ever, will the newbies prove liars along with incumbent GOP bastards?

Republicans Still Havent Learned
No real tax cut, lots of deficit spending: You call that a deal?
Andrew C. McCarthy

If weve learned anything over the last two years, its that we cannot spend our way to prosperity. Thats what Republican lawmakers proclaimed in their Pledge to America, ... And before their new House majority has even been sworn in, Republicans have decided to give spending our way back to prosperity one more try.

In the process, theyve increased the chance that the most free-spending, anti-prosperity president in American history will be reelected come 2012.

Republicans have added hundreds of billions of dollars to the national debt a debt that is already $14 trillion even by Washington math and closer to $130 trillion if we apply the math Washington imposes on everyone else.

Estimates all agree on one thing the bills spending cuts to reduce the size and scope of government add up to zero, no matter who does the counting.

The tax cuts raise more revenue line is irrelevant, moreover, because even if revenue does increase, nothing in the bill stops our insatiable government from spending it.

And while GOP dogma holds that tax cuts are the route to good government at least if the beast is starved and revenue surpluses are used to pay down debt Obama has ensured that actual tax cuts are a pipedream.

The temporary nature of lower tax rates, besides suppressing any potential revenue windfall, is transparently designed to get Obama reelected.

The deluge isnt scheduled to hit until a second term has been safely won. ...in 2013, the most left-wing president in American history will no longer have a reelection to worry about. ...if he wins, next time there will be no need to compromise. In the process, the new Republican leadership has harpooned the partys fiscal-responsibility credentials before the reinforcements who won by running on fiscal responsibility could arrive and make their mark in the new Congress.

From Weasel Zippers:

(CNSNews) A special Defense Department working group appointed by Defense Secretary Robert Gates has recommended that the military should expressly prohibit heterosexuals from using separate showers, bathrooms and bunking facilities from homosexuals when the repeal of the law banning homosexuals from the military goes into effect.
The working group has also recommended that commanding officers be left with the authority to exempt individuals from using the same showers, bathrooms and living facilities as homosexuals, but only on a case-by-case basis.
snip~
The working groups Nov. 30 reportReport of the Comprehensive Review of the Issues Associated with a Repeal of Dont Ask, Dont Tellconcluded that permitting heterosexuals to use separate showers, bathrooms and bunking facilities from homosexuals of the same gender would stigmatize homosexuals and be reminiscent of separate but equal facilities for blacks prior to the 1960s.
The working group was co-chaired by Jeh Charles Johnson, (*huh!?*) the Defense Departments general counsel, and U.S. Army Gen. Carter F. Ham.
